i mean like… all the dorm rooms in the expansion pack are huge and the rooms have lots of color variety. idk where you’re from or if you’ve been to an actual college dorm, but at my college all the furniture is the same color and the rooms, especially for underclassmen, are tiny and shared.
@@ohokay.1980 wouldn't call those huge - if you scale it based on like beds and shiet those are between 10-20m2. And some of those are shared between multiple Sims. They feel big, because like all Sims builds - they are empty.
And colour variety is just the stylistic choice. It's one specific Ikea like style they went with. Which was kinda big like decade ago - especially for schools and student living spaces.
But yeah - I thought you meant it like, you have been living in some hardcore mancaves. Because the Discover University Dorms - for most part look like some mid-standard, but still relatively cheap-looking college rooms. The colours are supposed to imitate higher standard of flats from around that time, but all the shiet is just some cheap furniture. And the open, intersex communal bathrooms and lack of kitchen? That's scary AF. That's not a good quality of living, even for broke students.

Tbh I would’ve preferred they made the builds tiny just to make it realistic and watch my sim suffer 💀 my exes dorm room was… if you wanna scale it… the width of three twin beds with desks under the beds. He and his roommate could’ve held hands in bed if they wanted. Not all the dorms were like this, his room was just extra bad. Also, I feel like most dorms at my university do not have kitchens, only upperclassmen apartments (but there’s a lot of dining halls so it’s fine?). BUT YES I def get you’re understanding of what I said. Would I want a big sims dorm room? Yes. Would I want the bathrooms in the game? Absolutely not.

One thing that really helps make the rooms appear more spacious is that beds and dining tables are really narrow (if we assume that a tile is the space between wall studs or the width of a typical kitchen module, it’s 60 cm or 2’) compared to their real-life counterparts.

A mailbox is actually kinda important because you can get mail while at uni! I never got why it's not a requirement when mail is a thing that happens.
the no-stove rule in the dorms is funny to me because in all of my uni accommodations, we have stove hobs 😅
And in Norway the bedsit stove (hybelkomfyr) is such a core appliance that it’s even named after the kind of accommodations it’s used in.
My university in the US had a kitchen in each dorm. Albeit my dorm housed 400+ people but still, we got a kitchen!
I feel like I’m the only person who uses universities CONTINUOUSLY. Almost all my sims go to college and I just put it on long lifespan or turn off aging while they’re in college and then change it back.
Edit: I will say I almost always do it off campus because I have to be in a mood to actually use the world
Yeah I like using it but I usually don’t live in the uni world. For more variety it’s also fun to do “non-traditional” students. I have a single mom with 4 kids who attends university part time and lives in a different world. You could also do older students going through mid-life crisis, a student living with family at home, etc.
@@nicche511 yes!! I love doing all those! I love having someone go later in life or as a single parent. It’s so good for storytelling and gameplay, the stress is perfect lol
I have sims live in San Myshuno and attend college from there! It still captures the hip, young, cool kid vibe but makes getting to class so much easier. I really enjoy what University adds to playthroughs.
All my Sims attend university too. I set up all of the dorms as residential, used gnome money to purchase, and rotate people through so they are never empty. Also, have people attend from their homes in other worlds. I play with aging off and age up manually. Am rotational player and have groups of people go to uni together. They form uni clubs and stay friends all throughout life.

Listening to this as my sim starts their first (and only semester) at Law School. 😅 Thank God for a mod that makes it so that you only need 4 core classes to pass. So many weeks in University is SO much. I can only stand a week.

In Norway, the “core” student appliance is what we call a “hybelkomfyr”, which I suppose means “bedsit stove”. It’s meant to fit on a bench top, and has a small oven and a cooktop with two plates (or whatever you call the spots where you put the pots when it’s electric and not burners).
i had to look this up cos i've never heard of this, but that's amazing! it looks so handy! (btw they're still called burners, whether they're gas, electric, or induction 😊)

As someone from the UK it bothers me sooooo much that you can’t put an oven in the uni halls. My sims will never understand the pain of one oven with 4 burners per 16 sims and I think that’s sad. Also random fire alarms at 2am when a drunk person burns their toast trying to grill it 😢

It's kind of weird for me to think of a dorm witout stove.
I myself as a student in Norway I rent a house, with stove obviously. All the rooms near te school have stoves.
When I was in the US for the world university winter games my dad and I slept in dorm rooms on a campus. My dad's room had a kitchen with gas stove!
Mine didn't, and somehow it felt like a hotel room😂
I don’t think anyone in Norway would even consider renting out a bedsit with a kitchenette that doesn’t at least have a bedsit stove (but ideally a full-size stove if there’s space for it), because it’s such an essential appliance.

The stove thing feels like an American university/college thing. Which has always confused me, especially as they based the world on British universities, yet I've lived in halls of accommodation at uni. We had two stoves for eight people.
The other thing which stood out as American to me was the shared rooms. My halls didn't even have shared bathrooms, though some here do. None of the halls of residence at my uni (or at least, my campus. The uni I chose to go to has several campuses) had shared rooms, and one of the people in my flat was an American studying abroad, and the two things they pointed out as being different at American universities were the shared rooms (or lack thereof) and the stoves, and how students are expected to get their food.
It just seems weird to me that the sims team decided to do a university pack, basing it on English university towns, but then failed to put the research in to what our universities are like. It ends up feeling neither British nor American. I wonder if there is any country or culture where the concept of an English-style university town and American-style university accommodation actually co-exists. If so, I guess they lucked into getting accidental university life representation.

I always thought Britechester was supposed to be like Boston - you have the older more formal uni like Harvard and then the tech institute like MIT
My sims can’t live at university because I will always get this error that won’t let me back on my game. No idea why. No one at sims could help. I have no mods 😅
I grew up with a sister, but sharing a bathroom with four other girls sounds like a literal nightmare. 😳😅
LITERALLY and I hated living in a dorm just cause the girls on my floors were messy and the bathrooms were trashed. When I got to move offcampus I moved with my best friend yea it cost more with just one roommate but idc

I’ve only played university once. Every-time I play it my files randomly get corrupted ☠️so I just pretend it’s England and put cc cafes and libraries in there

I'm bad cause I never loved in a dorm during university. I did community college my first two years so I could drive from home and when I transferred to an actual university for my BA I wasn't required to live on campus since I wasn't technically a freshman. I worked fulltime during Uni and had a few scholarships with a living stipend, so I had my own apartment all to myself. It's probably my most nostalgic time, because living alone was amazing and no one told me I couldn't make pudding at 3am if I had insomnia.
I think because it was a stand alone house, the double bed room was meant for student couples. Married student housing is a thing in some places, especially in freestanding homes, often those used to be regular houses that the university bought when they expanded, so there is one primary bedroom and some smaller bedrooms. Because it’s a regular house converted into Uni housing.
It is a little odd but I always liked the one giant bedroom upstairs in that house - its like that one private space you can pay more for (no idea if that's a real thing). One of my favorite playthroughs I actually had a couple get engaged right out of HS, go to Uni together, and share that space.
I actually love playing University (for a semester or two before I award a degree with MCCC lol) but I'm always off living off campus (as I did irl). My first/only dorm room building was just a couple stories of rooms with a bathroom between the rooms, "rec" area in the middle of the first floor and laundry/kitchen in the basement floor (it was lowkey terrifying) in a building from the 1950s with no A/C in the middle of a semi-desert area so literally anything would be better hahaha

Wow I JUST renovated all of britechester and had so much fun with the Foxbury dorms. I play in Britechester all the time because it's so gorgeous even if the default builds are...lackluster.
Is university worth the money because I always hear mixed reviews?
I haven’t really played this pack very much but I enjoy having Sims get extra skills and friends before they become full adults. If this is your type of gameplay then University is a good pack.

It depends on your play style. If you like skill building and socializing or getting every reward thing I think you’d like it. If you like build mode and do challenges I don’t think you’d get much out of it. There’s a few decent build/buy objects but there are better packs for build and challenge players. But playing through the uni experience is kinda cool.

No need to put "kinda" there. It stinks - like that whole expansion that is pretty much disgusting fake advertisement. No University experience. Some badly concocted American Frat experience. And relatively good Robotics gimmick. This is the pack you only get for those few clothing and buildbuy options, the item chest and the open shower.
Challenge Idea: Make a house with nothing but "styled rooms"
i like to think that the reason for the upstairs being so fancy and the two downstairs bedrooms being literal dorm rooms is because the house is owned by a couple who rent out two downstairs rooms for maybe transfer students

When I was in college I literally had no furniture when I moved into my first apartment so it was seriously like these big empty rooms 😂 I didn’t even have a couch 💀 we were sitting on lawn chairs

University just takes too long. Id love to join clubs and the secret society but I'd have to take less classes per week and then it would take forever to finish all 12. So i just use it as a skills and job booster only.
I absolutely hate the layout of this default build but I dont ‘hate’ the look of the outside (i like that it matches the neighbors XD) so I’ve built a better layout and replace it everytime I start a new save 🤣

I’ve been playing University and let me tell you, my biggest issue is that it takes an hour for my Sim to walk from his dorm to his classes. (A bike doesn’t really help, either)
I’ve tried so many times to go to the classes in the Sims College pack and it’s impossible to have multiple a day and play and have your sims do multiple sets of homework without Cheats!!!

I renovated my university world and it was totally worth, it's probably one of the packs I use the most.

For Maritime Manor I did 3 row houses for 1 - 3 sims each which was a nice way to switch it up.
omg my irl dorm was on a cul de sac it had a courtyard opening up to it that would make a pretty build (shoutout sewall hall at CU boulder)
i don’t have this pack because i never really cared for the sims 3 version. the gameplay was just boring. And it seemed like from reviews that sims3 university was so much better than sims 4

You know with how often simsie complains about the EA offerings, I'd kind of love to see her do a comparison build of like the official packs vs the addon cc that people make? Like Peacemaker did some huge Nifty Knitting additions (both build and buy stuff), and HeyHarrie did additional heights of the other University windows, that kind of thing - it'd just be really cool to see her directly compare what we actually pay for with the incredible additions that people just make and release for free
I would too but I suspect in the case of most add-ons, like the different window and door heights, they stretched the 3D model part out and tweaked it in whatever ways would make it look natural, which is how I assume EA does it too. That's not to knock it, mind you! I wonder if, for example, HeyHarrie had the same complaint that Kayla did and so she turned the textures into a seamless format for all of the DU window heights?
The Nifty Knitting additions for CAS were definitely based on the items we didn't get (variety of people signed up to make them as CC on a tumblr post and some actually did lol) so I'm not sure if Peacemaker did a mix of both (additional sizes plus stuff we weren't given; I know Peacemaker does a lot of window/door add-ons normally.) Makes me curious how many of those dibs calls the CC makers actually created in the end! Also, I know they did the same thing with Laundry Day, since we also got to see the options that weren't chosen for that and lots of people were interested. (It also had a tumblr post lol.)
I really wish EA in particular would make some of the CC Pack Add-ons official or else make it an update themselves... it's always so frustrating which options are locked behind certain wall heights! And which windows for example need some friends.
I think she cant do that because she is game changer for EA. She always over compliment every new kit as her "new favorite kit ever"

Peacemaker's addons are basically required CC for me. They really finish out the pack and have some cute furniture alterations!

I used to play university in the sims 4 but when I had to make a new PlayStation account I lost the packs I had before and university was one of the packs I had. Now I hope to get it again soon cause I miss it.

Omg one thing that annoys me about University is that I decorated their dorm rooms but everytime they would leave campus some furniture would ALWAYS disappear and it was always the same ones (computer chairs and computers). Like why? It said I would have them in my inventory but they were never there and it would keep adding up to like 60 something chairs and 60 something computers.
I bought University like 6 months ago and literally never played with it.
I'm currently doing a let's play where I play with a Sim from Birth to death. When my Sim ages up into a teen, I'm going to go to high school.
then im going to university when my Sims graduates high school and going to university to become a doctor, then I'm going to switch and play with Get To Work.

These days I always make all of them residential and just place students manually once the game generates them or play one semester in a dorm and then turn it residential and keep all my roommates.
Ngl the whole university pack just kind of annoyed me lol. I hate that you can't also autonomously send a sim to university. I also hate how it takes your student like 3 sim hours to get to a lecture? It frustrated me so much lmao
lets be honest its not just the university world.... all the worlds are tiny and boring, this is the reason i stopped playing sims 4, ill stick to sims 3 thanks

Is there a tutorial on how to even use university? How do I send a sim there? I can apply and get accepted but after that nothing seems to happen.
After you get accepted, you have to select enrol from the university menu. Then you can choose which degree, where to live, etc.

on another note i HATE playing in that world i haven’t played in that world in forever , i usually always make my sim go to university but i ALWAYS AND ALWAYS WILL let them be at home i will never pick them going into the dorm cuhz BABY it’s a god damn mess!😂
This pack makes no sense to me, mostly because our higher education is so different from yours, that the specificities are off to me by a lot.
Like, if it's not a boarding school, living on campus is illegal. My uni-town was designed for students, so it had "student-villages" where a lot of housing were clustered together, usually around or nearby a grocery store. My living situation specifically was 15 people sharing a kitchen(full scale; huge island, 5 fridges, 2 stoves and all the utensils, pots, pans, cutlery, plates and cups that a regular kitchen has), and we all had our own bedrooms and bathrooms(only the latter one isn't standard). No kitchen-appliances in your room was permitted(I had a tiny kettle that barely passed regular inspections if unplugged)
We weren't allowed to put anything up on the walls, save for on one singular plank that I barely could reach. Sharing a bedroom seems like a nightmare to me. How can two people who don't know each other and have completely different schedules and alarms share one bedroom?
We also don't really have popular school teams, so the school colors are not a thing.
Schools don't provide food, meal plans don't exist. (We had cafeterias, but they were only open during lunch-hours and cost a fortune. Better to make your own meals)
Kegs also aren't a thing and since all uni-students are of age, they can buy their own alcohol.
My main campus(cuz the school I attended had 10 campus under the same main administration, I was regularly on 4 of them) was the hospital++ as I was in a medical field, we were closer to the action and had access to way more than we really should have had...
I just have to say, I've just recently found your channel on here and I LOVE your builds! I've been playing the sims since it came out when I was 11 about 23 years ago, and I've never been able to do good builds. Would love to find some of your builds in game to use!!

Im at a British uni and i have a couple of questions about American unis. Do they not have ovens/stoves??? I cannot live without an oven and hob. And secondly, what are sororities/fraternities? -Are they literally just single sex living accomdation?
I don't know about everyone else's colleges, but our local college just made a rule that you're not allowed to have a microwave or a fridge because it will override their circuits. However, you can rent a microwave or fridge from them that will not override their circuits. Money grubbing much?
I find stoves being banned really funny because my college did some have residential houses turned into student housing, but they still had kitchens. Even campus owned apartments had kitchens. Some of the dormitories had a common/shared kitchen. It was just the individual dormitory rooms themselves that were not allowed full size appliances.
Honestly the whole University Pack sucks! I was so excited for it when it came out bc it was my favorite pack on sims 2/3, but I hate it. I wish I could get my money back or change it for another pack...

There was a building on my college campus that looked EXACTLY like that weird student union, except ours was silver! so many of the rooms had weird windows.
The lotsin Britechester are awesome, but the builds are not. Besides, we don't need 6 studenthouses, one or two will do. Everything else can be build as anything else. I like a makerspace, restaurant and a fashionshop in the world.
