  • This Will it Run episode is a Micro Trains SW1500 in Kansas City Southern Gray Ghost colors. This model was actually built by Life-Like/Walthers/Proto for Micro Trains so it is almost identical, mechanism wise, to last week's EMD Demonstrator. Let's see how it goes.

Yeah it's been somewhat of a morale killer to see it drop off like that.

I want that locomotive. I see it every now and then on eBay but I always lose the bid. Lol. I ended up getting a life like model but I painted it in Tex Mex colors. Lol. Great video

Pulse control power supplies were already made in the seventies, believe it or not :) The German Arnold company had them in their catalogue!

Shane I’m a little disappointed i wanted to see you take the shell off. I have one of those locomotives in the Southern road. I need to pull the shell off so I can put a DDC board in. Just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. But I do need to lubricant the locomotive. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎

I was going to but after some research I discovered that it is very difficult to get off. Here's a quote from Spookshow's page "Removing the shell from these models is somewhat arduous. In addition to the overall tight fit, the shell clings tenaciously to the chassis by way of eight different plastic clips (three on each side and one on each end). I still don't know if there's an "easy" way to go about this, but basically you need to free each of the clips and then gradually work the shell up and off. Be sure to take your time and be patient, these things are decidedly fragile."

@@Steve_Larson I usually consult Sookshow's website before I buy something i'm not 100% familiar with. Especially as it pertains to stuff that has been in production for a long time and gone through many revisions like Atlas GP's, etc.

First pull the trucks off, they pop off pretty easily if you lift them up with tweezers between the frame and the top side of the truck. Next slide thin strips of brass between the shell and the brass tabs attached to the body where they fold up against the frame (by where the tabs are melted onto the shell). That will allow the shell to come off with little chance of the tabs breaking off. Once the strips are in place, slowly pull the shell off the frame.

Hey Jody. I know that Roundhouse makes both N and H.O. scale rolling stock kits. There are probably other ones out there but Roundhouse comes to mind first.
