Hi yes, there are different thoughts on leg positions. We tend to think that legs together makes pelvic floor exercises easier by placing the pelvic floor muscles in their best working position. For progression some physiotherapists advise legs slightly apart - I think this does add to the challenge posed by the exercise for sure. Thanks again great input! Michelle
Hi great question - yes this is completely normal - you will find that the lower abdominals will contract a little as you do your pelvic floor exercises correctly & this is exactly what you want to see. Just avoid drawing in the upper abdominals with the exercises. Yes these are the exercises for toning & tightening the vagina especially after childbirth and with menopause. It takes time especially if the pelvic floor is weak - studies show up to 5-6 months to regain full strength, best of luck!
Yes kegels should be done during and after pregnancy. During pregnancy the pelvic floor weakens and stretches, this is one reason why some women start to pelvic floor problems at this time. Around 20-30 reps are recommended daily during pregnancy, as the pregnancy progresses they become harder with the weight of the baby and this can be helped by doing them sitting or in side lying. Goog luck and hope this helps Michelle
Hi, yes overactive bladder can happen to anyone regardless of age or childbearing. The importnat thing is to establish why it is occurring - there are many possibilities including overactive pelvic floor muscles, stress, pelvic floor weakness...good to get an expert opinion/professional treatment to help you sort this out now rather than worsen in years to come, best of luck!
Hi Ario this video has been made for women however the priciples are the same for men. I do have pelvic exercise videos specifically to help men at my channel Cheers
Hey Michelle its hard for me to breath normally while doing a kegel I keep wanting to hold my breath and if I try and breath normal I feel like I can't hold it when I hold my breath I can hold it for a good min I'm needing g help
I wanna know what I'm doing wrong besides holding my breath what tips or information can you give me to help me learn how to do a kegel while breathing normally
It can be difficult to breathe normally during Pelvic Floor exercises if the pelvic floor muscles are weak. Start by practicing a couple of exercises with normal breathing and try to increase how many you can do over time. This should improve as the pelvic floor muscles get stronger, all the best
Hi Sarah with orgasm the PF muscles contract intensely, my guess is that you are contracting but perhaps not relaxing them fully hence the intense sensation. Start gradually - gentle holds, for a few seocnds and try lying down to avoid gravity loading your PF, contract v. gently, fully relax, then bulge your lower abdomen take a deep breath and rest up to 30-45 secs before next effort. Star with just a few. Am keen to hear how this goes let me know Cheers Michelle
hi Michelle, thanks for the videos. they r really helpful. i was wondering whether i'm doing it correctly as i can not do the exercise without contracting my lower abdomen a little bit. please suggest. also, does this exercise help tighten the vagina?
Yes I do pelvic tilts sitting and standing. I raise my hips while. lying down digging in my heels, kegels & walking. Squats against the wall foe back of legs. If u think of any help I'd appreciate it. Catherine in Minnesota. Happy thanksgiving.
Hi Catherine the exercises you are doing sound great. In time you should be able to do clam (side knee lift only) keep your top foot on lower foot throughout and lift approx tennis ball height only or less, not too high this should be more comfortable. All your exercises should be comfortable. Wall squats great for your glutes you can also do ball wall squats too see this video How to Squat Safely Physio Guide . Also alternate arm leg raises lying prone on tummy, pillow under hips shown here Superman Exercise - Effective Physical Therapy Back Exercises Happy thanksgiving to you too Michelle
