- ‘Once upon a time there was a little engine called Edward.'
We end this Railway Series Surprise Packet by bringing it back to the beginning.
This little series was orchestrated by my good friend Neil of 10LEIGH10. And quite accidentally on purpose, he's managed to bring together an incredible group of creators for the 75th.
And so, we're very proud to present this anniversary edition of the Railway Series Surprise Packet. 6 videos celebrating all things Thomas and his friends from the last 75 years. We've got run-ins with dukes, fire-engines, fish, questionable BBC productions, and a railway with a gallant soul.

Yes, I know I technically retired this channel. But who cares! We are in the middle of a global pandemic, and I feel like normal has leapt out the window. Also, this is probably more of a one-off special for the 75th than me actually making regular videos again.
As ever, thank you for watching. Now go watch the other videos. Unless you've done this correctly and already seen them, in which case... welcome!
TheScotsmanReturns
I really loved the style you went for with this, using the illustrations for the people and the faces. The reveal at the end was lovely, a really touching moment for the anniversary. Also loved what you did with the credits. All in all, a fantastic tribute!
Same
What I’m still curious about to this day is how he managed to even put the paces on the engines.
@Gameoholic1994 I think he had custom models made with the faces
alex faulkner If there was a tutorial for that kind of customization, I’d be all set.
Couldn't have said it any better myself.
I guess it's safe to say: The Scotsman, has returned.
Aw, I Wanted to say that
We all can say that
And he hath left
nope he got bored and retired

What happened to The Little Westerner? It's part of UA-cam Kids and we can't have the full functionality of it. No community comments and conversations, visible likes and dislikes, miniplayer and all. It's loaded with ads too.
@@TheRedAirOn I hate that. The assumption that every video with talking trains is made “for kids” doesn’t make sense. Even some of the 18+ George Carlin dubs of Thomas were labeled “for kids” at one point.
What’s the 0.25%?
@@gameoholic1994 Trainz instead of illustrations.
@@jamessmithandgarrettsmith3623 it isnt even trainz
“No one’s ever really gone.”
Scotsman uploads.
your right
Oh my god that end bit characterized Thomas and Edward so perfectly and I felt a huge rush of nostalgia holy crap.
"He's back!!! He's alive!!!!. Scotsman is here!!!" 😀😀😀
You could say that the Scotsman returns....
@@themediocretellamechress9323 clever.
The flying Scotsman has returned
Yes scotty, but will you start making videos again 🤔🙂
@@MarcusWhitelam he has
The man, the myth, the legend, the Scotsman returns
I love how Edward goes all the way to Carlisle to get his coaches to bring them back down onto the S&D XD
Well Edward will have been to Carlisle in his Furness Railway days.
Oh snap the legend returns this will be great
Indeed.
What a great retelling with a splash of the next story added on at the end. The warm embrace of burning coal, hot steam, and childhood nostalgia are a much needed hug on this semi-cold afternoon i find myself in
I was so confused as to why the little Tender Engine's name wasn't said. The ending explains it, AMAZING video sir.
I'm so glad you've come back, even if it's for just one video, you truly live up to your channel name!
Guess who’s back, back again, Scotsman’s back, tell a friend.
Happy 75th!
Twenty-ninth.
It was an honor to witness the premeire. This has been one of the greatest creations of the community. Thank you.
I may have missed the stream for this movie due to supper, but I'm glad that I got to watch it nonetheless. This and the previous videos made by your fellow collaborators are fun to watch and a brilliant way to celebrate 75 years of The Railway Series and Thomas himself. Thank you for putting this all together.
Haven’t even seen it yet, and I’m already liking the video
WHAT THE HECK!!!!! DUDE I thought, we all thought that you’d left UA-cam. All the same, WELCOME BACK!!!!!!!!
That ending credits scene was brilliantly made! Great work.
I know I’ve commented on this video before, but I feel the need to do it again. This is a true masterpiece of a video. I love how Edward is telling the story to Thomas, but calls himself the little engine. Its a heart warming story, and I love how, again, you used Edward telling the story to Thomas, rather than just a narrator telling it. Thomas is written in perfectly. Questioning what happened to the engine the next day, and also being oblivious that the engine is Edward. I again have to say, that this is a wonderful adaption of “Edward’s Day Out”. And I generally love it.
This was so freaking beautiful. I didn't think adapting the original story with this much detail was possible. And using this story as a precursor to Thomas' first story as magnificent. You're a legend.
We need a sequel to the little westerner.I could be about Jinty returning a helping Oliver escape but they are caught and separated Jinty heads to Sodor but he is forced to hide in old sheds stations a branch lines then Oliver is saved by Douglas and the two are reunited.
Referring Edward as “the little engine” makes this story sound like *every other train story ever*
Like The Little Engine That Could? I got that from the same library as Thomas videos, back in the days of "toy trains" , as my mom called the models in TTTE. I loved it when I didn't know how they did it and I loved it even when I was told it was toy trains. Btw, I wonder if any kids upon being told it was toy trains wanted to play with Thomas and his friends.
Me: scrolling down UA-cam
My eyes: a video made by thescottmanreturns
My brain: oh look it’s a video made by thescottmanretur.......
me: getting the transmissions from my brain
Me: insert all the engines blowing there whistle here
This was an absolutley wonderful tribute to the Railway Series! From the way the story was presented, to the overall nostalgic atmosphere, it was incredibly heartfelt and charming! This is quite simply some of the best work that I've seen from the fandom in a while. I especially loved the little touch at the end, with the scene in the shed to all of the illustrations. This is pure Thomas, and I'm so glad that you've reminded me and plenty of others what the series is truly about!
You live up to your namesake.
TheScotsmanReturns returns
I KNOW RIGHT?
THE RETURN OF THE KING!
HE LIVES
That was absolutely beautiful! Your work always is amazing! The music the scenes, they all are done so well!
Edward was hiding the truth that he was the little engine
Now I think we’re all waiting for the sequel to the little westerner
🙂 WELCOME BACK!!! 🙂
Happy 75th Anniversary of the RWS.
I got a Fisher-Price ad with this vid and they're owned by Mattel, like TTTE now. Huge irony, given Mattel ruined my childhood with AEG. TTTE's something I consider my childhood because I loved it as a child, saying Shining Time Station was my favorite TV show when I was almost 6 or maybe I was 6. I also watched Thomas videos and got some STS based books.
Edward’s face...looks horrifying
I hold the headcanon that the events of “The Three Railway Engines” was told by Edward (and Henry, in the case of “Edward, Gordon and Henry”) to Thomas.
This is perhaps the closest to what I had in mind. Jolly good work- nice distinction between the story as it was told (using Dalby’s illustrations) and reality (using the models).
I loved how you used the figures form the books !
I also loved how you done the ending and by god the credits were the best !
you're....back!
*IT'S A MIRACLE* ! something kept scratching in the back of my mind saying you'd come back sometime, lo and behold.
He is back, hurray!!!
The scotsman disapears
Let's hope this year we will get the little western part 2
Regardless if you're back for good or not, this was lovely, thanks for the years of quality entertainment you've given me and plenty others, and I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose to persue next, cheers mate!
It’s nice to see you make one more video. We all are gonna miss you.
Its good to have you back Scotsman.
The story that started it all
The chosen one is back boys
That part with Thomas at the end it's just so heart touching.
One way or another, they always come back.
This was amazing! Great job! I loved this
And when the world needed him most, he vanished...
I am so happy that your back. Your videos are number 1.
Now I’ve seen Mattel release some real rubbish for this anniversary but this video alone is a brilliant way to celebrate the anniversary well done
I love the train community and all the 75th posts
I got so sad realizing it’s been 2 years without uploads
Holy shit, the king had RETURNED!
This is awesome CGI. I wish I could make these like the Little Westerner one this was a true masterpiece it's even better than Victor Tanzig I have to admit. Wow!
What have you done Mayoorhan? You were meant to be retired. You have messed with the natural order. You'll be hearing from my *LAWYER TEAM*- *cough cough* where was I?
Ah yes. Seriously - I loved this. You really took the story and made it your own, and those endings (the one with Thomas and Edward, and the one with the railway series illustrations) genuinely made me smile so much.
A day later I'm still very much in love with all of the videos which have come out in the 75th packet and I think they will be classics for years to come. Well done.

Gorgeous as always!
Okay I absolutely LOVE what you did with Edward, Gordon, & Thomas at the end there!
Probably my favorite in the list also like the twist in the end revealing Edward to be the one telling his day out!
It's really something when you look back and realize that the 75th anniversary was a whole year ago today
He’s Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,
Wait what, ur back! Does this mean they’ll be a sequel to ur Little Western movie?!
Stunning ending it was like the scene in the snowman when they fly around
"Nothing gets past you." Your dialogue at the end was great!
I really wish those orange passenger coaches were in the CGI series. Especially for the Thomas & Friends The Adventure Begins film.
Ah man!!! This story was told wonderfully with the visuals definitely adding something I haven't seen in Trainz before. And then the ending. Fantastic.
Why did’t I watch this sooner. I did’t see one of your videos for a long time and this one is really well done. It makes it bette because you made a video. What a great return and I think it’s safe to say you have returned
Do you think he's just going to post every 5 years when the franchise has an anniversary?
who knows, lets just wait for the 80th anniversary
@@thecoolestcaboose7790 but it's the 75th...
@@rollingduckstudios8382 oops i meant 80th
Dude! I just saw the little westerner, and it was amazing! That movie alone reawakened the thomas love in my heart again! I have to see more! Please tell me you got a sequel in the works!
Sadly, if you read the descriptions of both videos, you‘ll notice that „The little Westerner“ was his farewell video and „Edwards day out“ was just a one off.
Thanks for uploading again. I really missed your stories and how you deliver them.
I'm going to honest with you, I teared up... This video is amazing! I love the musical notes and your storytelling!
What happened to the Return Of The Flying Scotsman video? Please bring it back! It's my favorite one and the best one of your videos! Please bring it back!!!!!!!
He’s returning this is amazing
So this is both Edward's Day Out AND Thomas & The Trucks? With a tease of Edward & Gordon?
Nice way to merge the two, or i guess; *three* stories.
WELCOME BACK SCOTSMAN!
Got to love the John Powell music and got to love you Scotsman, good to see you again
Ayyyyy your back! Good to see you again! Great video!
Nice to see you upload a nice video
The Scotsman really does Return! Welcome back my dude!
A very heartwarming and touching tribute to the work of the good reverend. Lovely to see you back, I do hope you’re going alright and enjoying life. All the best to you.
P.S. Love the inclusion of that How To Train Your Dragon music there, always fits the tone well.
Hey. Great to see you back. But, could you bring back your old videos? I freaking loved them.
Am I dreaming... You're alive!?
Amazing video! Loved the way the illustrations are the faces in the story, and quick question, will there be a sequel to The Little Westerner?
I can’t wait for more new stories like these you make them so realistic
Amazing as usual
Enjoyable, very clever.
TheScotsmanReturns returns!
(GASP!) Your channel name makes SENSE now!
Scotsman when you doing the little westerner two or a sequel to it. it ended on a cliffhanger and I think everyone is exited to see it
Now THIS, is how you celebrate an anniversary
who knew that all it took was one sick Christopher Awdry and some pieces of paper that gave us the stories we cherished today
this certainly one of the best RWS stories
Please continue the little westerner story. I loved it so much.
TheScotsmanReturned, better than ever
Man I really love your style, it's absolutely amazing. Same with your Little Westerner video, that was amazing. Shame it's been rated for kids otherwise I'd be praising you there too XD
This is a lovely adaptation Mayoorhan! Well done! :D
A year later... he’s back at last
I’ve Watched your for 10 years I still miss you but I think it’s my time to leave.
because as you said at every stories has to end and this is my turn.
Good luck in future for last I bid you a farewell

are you working on the little westerner 2? I know a film is not that easy to write, edit etc. but I just want an update, since that cliffhanger was really promising, please don't rush it take your time
also this video was amazing, the style the storytelling, everything is just amazing especially for the 75th anniversary, congratulations
He won‘t make a part 2. The Little Westerner was his farewell video. He only uploaded something again because it was the 75th anniversary of the franchise. Sorry, but there won‘t be a part 2...
@@scanida5070 oh, well that's sad
I had never seen your videos before but I can see why so many like it, great work!
