I've been playing arcaea on the switch so vigorously I think I forgot how to play with touch lol But for real though, this port is so cool. It opens it up to people who are more used to playing with controllers, but you can still play with touch, or even thumb play. I've never played a rhythm game with a controller, but it's just-- really fun to me. It's really cool, seeing rhythm games reaching more people. Like-- a year ago the most I touched a rhythm game was weird knock off piano tiles, and now I'm spending entire days grinding on world mode, only to take a break by playing phigros instead. These games have consumed my life send help
Yeah, I played a little Arcaea on mobile like 3 weeks ago and kinda stopped, but right when I stopped it was announced and I got it! It’s such a cool game and I’m super invested in it. When this video premiered, the chat got a little messy with the 40 dollar price tag. It's not that steep of a price and like tokaku mentioned, it is a steal when you compare it to the mobile version. If you don't want to pay 40 bucks for it, just wait for a sale.
I think people also forget that since the collab packs aren’t included, that’s about $40 less. You really need to remember that the switch version doesn’t have ALL the content from mobile, so it’s not a complete Arcaea for Switch as of right now.
It's still a steal if you haven't gotten to arcaea yet. But for me who have "invested" great amount to arcaea it's not worth it. And the fact i don't have switch
@@MsSaskue360 It mostly has instrumental tracks, but there is some vocal songs. Though, there's usually 1 or 2 per pack. That said, there's a good amount of vocal songs now since Arcaea has updated so much.
They really have to! I myself, as the spoiled brat I am will get the Switch version. But I am a long-time mobile supporter and own everything it has to offer that has to be paid, World Extend I just use the world maps, other than that everything is bought at release. Still, it would be unfair for the player basis that practically catapulted Arcaea to its state now to not have the new partner, pack or illustrations. It has to be kept in mind that this probably would never have been possible without the great fanbase of the mobile version that literally made this whole project possible in the first place. It just would be fair.
I mean I’m kind of a newbie but the only reason I rush to the hard songs instead of grinding for AA (and above) in normal levels is because I enjoy the songs, they’re just a bit boring in the normal because they might be too easy or something

Never touched the game but collab packs are probably a licence thing. I know Superbeat Xonic on anything else other than Vita does not include the GG Xrd theme due to licensing
id say im slightly better than the average rhythm game player like that would play on lower difficulties. i started arcaea a couple days ago and i love it!
this remind me back then when I'm still 12-15 years old, going to cyber cafe, sees people playing this kind of game on pc, you can chatt in the lobby, challenge people, mini games and lots more, plus all the friend ur playing with is there with you, not some random online player 😂
I've been wondering if this would be worth picking up. I played the Android version (on my Switch actually, using switchroot LineageOS) a bit, but I really didn't care for the account system and the heavy monetization, so I just played whatever is available free of charge. The fact that this port functions more or less like Rayark's mobile-to-Switch releases has me sold on it already. I still play the hell out of Cytus Alpha and Deemo on my Switch, also VOEZ on the odd occasion, and it'll be nice to add Arcaea to my repertoire. Can't wait to see the game really open up.

@@tokaku it only shows up, right, left shoulder trigger and X, A, right shoulder trigger for the tutorial. They never showcase the crosshand buttons probably because of the way it is setup to show the joycons on each side and the color on the sides
i personally like mass unlockable things in games like this, it forces me to play every song! unlike my usual self not even attempting to in another rhythm game i play, they have like 2000 songs so its fair that i dont try to, because you need to unlock them by paying coins, which you get when playing maps (better score = more coins) so

In my opinion. The grindiness in the switch version is much more "direct" whereas in the mobile version it's just "grind but not too much you gotta wait!". I also really like the whole "work for the songs" cuz it kinda makes it like a collection and when you get everything, it's like an achievement. I really enjoy it this way but I can get why people might want the songs right away. Also joycons are wild but they feel really good. I tend to play arcaea on my tv a lot and actually ended up clearing a few 10s on joycons. I really hope that we keep getting updates. I also hope they maybe figure out licensing and give us those collab packs (probably not but one can only dream lol).
As dude who has no clue what Arcaea is and seeing this in my rec vids, I'm pretty interested in this. Played the first Cytus back in the day, and now just casually playing DJ Max Respect V on PC, Arcaea definitely seems like a great rhythm game on the Switch.
I too was hyped for the Switch release. Arcaea is a game i've watched videos on off and on over a few years but never got into it because I don't really like phone games and I don't game at my pc much. However I was convinced not to pick this up on day one due to how difficult some harder tracks would be to perform on the joycons (yes I know i'm weird for only playing rythm games with a pad.) I was hoping they might change some of the tracks with that in mind but no such luck. So instead I got groove coaster with some dlc so far. I enjoyed the review though. Very casual and honest. The fact that you have a lot of experience with Arcaea and you acknowledge the difficulty of the sticks for harder tracks and also believe you could pull it off if you practice enough is both good to know and appreciated. I might pick up the game in the future because of that. Grats on the sponser for the video!

Thank you so much for your two videos! Picked this up, holy hell so much fun! As someone who doesn't really play mobile/touchscreen-style rhythm games, there are so many lovely things about this game and it can be pretty challenging at times! The Switch tutorial does an excellent job of teaching mechanics for both touch and Joycon controls at basic and advanced gameplay levels, but I would definitely recommend new players look up some of the ways other mechanics work.
Can't wait to play this on Switch! I already preordered it from the eshope. So I have it downloaded already, just can't play it till the 18th. Hopefully they add the collab packs as extra dlc. Thanx for the review!

I play the game on my iPad every now and then, but I really don’t like the typical free-to-play mobile game stuff like stamina and the amount of money you’d have to spend to buy all the songs and packs, so this version where you spend $40 and you get a complete package seems great for me.

Hey, amazing video, but one question. If i would have to choose one rhythm game for switch which would you recommend more for a casual player? I am thinking between Taiko no Tatsuin, Voez, Arcaea and something called Cytus α . I asking mostly, because while i don't see a problem with progressing trough songs and eventually improving, i have that fear behind my back, that i will eventually hit a wall, i would be not able to come across, so i won't be able to even access some songs, when comes to unlock.
all those games are wildly different in terms of play, voez and cytus were both quite unpopular on switch, I heard for cytus alpha's case, it was the lack of advertising? which game do you think appeals to you most? because whatever appeals to you most is likely what you'd be most happy with. Something that makes you think 'wow THAT'S FUN' just by looking at it?

To be fair my experience with rhythm games are limited for Guitar hero/frets of fire which i adore, and osu, which is fun, but doesn't seem to work for me in a long run. (and a fact, that i prefer taiko/osumania than main mode :P )

Well it looks so good i really want to try it but you know i don't have a switch and i just cannot buy it because i want to play arcaea:') It is a lot more better than mobile version that's why i like it. But it doesn't mean that i can buy a switch, so i am just sitting and watching people play it on switch.

idk if u can enjoy missing alot of notes unless u can consistently play higher difficulties
Yeah I get what you mean. Rhythm games always feel like the early difficulties are too slow and don't really feel like I'm following the beat at all

in another rhythm game i play, they have like 2000 songs so its fair that i dont try to, because you need to unlock them by paying coins, which you get when playing maps (better score = more coins) so
I really hope that hey keep updating this game on switch because what happened to lanota was honestly so disappointing, I remember buying it on switch then regretting it once I realised that they literally do not update the game :(

In my opinion. The grindiness in the switch version is much more "direct" whereas in the mobile version it's just "grind but not too much you gotta wait!". I also really like the whole "work for the songs" cuz it kinda makes it like a collection and when you get everything, it's like an achievement.
I really enjoy it this way but I can get why people might want the songs right away.
Also joycons are wild but they feel really good. I tend to play arcaea on my tv a lot and actually ended up clearing a few 10s on joycons. I really hope that we keep getting updates. I also hope they maybe figure out licensing and give us those collab packs (probably not but one can only dream lol).
As dude who has no clue what Arcaea is and seeing this in my rec vids, I'm pretty interested in this. Played the first Cytus back in the day, and now just casually playing DJ Max Respect V on PC, Arcaea definitely seems like a great rhythm game on the Switch.

I too was hyped for the Switch release. Arcaea is a game i've watched videos on off and on over a few years but never got into it because I don't really like phone games and I don't game at my pc much. However I was convinced not to pick this up on day one due to how difficult some harder tracks would be to perform on the joycons (yes I know i'm weird for only playing rythm games with a pad.) I was hoping they might change some of the tracks with that in mind but no such luck. So instead I got groove coaster with some dlc so far.
I enjoyed the review though. Very casual and honest. The fact that you have a lot of experience with Arcaea and you acknowledge the difficulty of the sticks for harder tracks and also believe you could pull it off if you practice enough is both good to know and appreciated. I might pick up the game in the future because of that. Grats on the sponser for the video!

I was worried about the missing songs. For those who don’t know, there are about 73 songs not here (collab packs, World Extend, recently added story packs, etc.).
The joycon controls reminds me of how Kingdom Hearts Melody of memory controls. I hope I can suck less with them :^)

I prefer the grinding mechanic here WAY more than mobile. At least this doesnt scream "mobile game garbage microtransaction or money bullshit"

Thank you so much for your two videos! Picked this up, holy hell so much fun! As someone who doesn't really play mobile/touchscreen-style rhythm games, there are so many lovely things about this game and it can be pretty challenging at times! The Switch tutorial does an excellent job of teaching mechanics for both touch and Joycon controls at basic and advanced gameplay levels, but I would definitely recommend new players look up some of the ways other mechanics work.

I play the game on my iPad every now and then, but I really don’t like the typical free-to-play mobile game stuff like stamina and the amount of money you’d have to spend to buy all the songs and packs, so this version where you spend $40 and you get a complete package seems great for me.

Hey, amazing video, but one question. If i would have to choose one rhythm game for switch which would you recommend more for a casual player? I am thinking between Taiko no Tatsuin, Voez, Arcaea and something called Cytus α
. I asking mostly, because while i don't see a problem with progressing trough songs and eventually improving, i have that fear behind my back, that i will eventually hit a wall, i would be not able to come across, so i won't be able to even access some songs, when comes to unlock.
all those games are wildly different in terms of play, voez and cytus were both quite unpopular on switch, I heard for cytus alpha's case, it was the lack of advertising? which game do you think appeals to you most? because whatever appeals to you most is likely what you'd be most happy with. Something that makes you think 'wow THAT'S FUN' just by looking at it?
@@tokaku If that's the case I'll probably stick to Arcaea, followed someday by taiko. To be fair my experience with rhythm games are limited for Guitar hero/frets of fire which i adore, and osu, which is fun, but doesn't seem to work for me in a long run. (and a fact, that i prefer taiko/osumania than main mode :P )

Well it looks so good i really want to try it but you know i don't have a switch and i just cannot buy it because i want to play arcaea:') It is a lot more better than mobile version that's why i like it. But it doesn't mean that i can buy a switch, so i am just sitting and watching people play it on switch.
I wouldn't mind a playstation version for the Joycon system to play on ps4, I don't want to buy a switch just for 1 game but on ps4 would be cool think it would work. :)

I really need to get it on switch but man I feel like a person who never played a rhythm game on Arcaea but i'ts fun, it makes me learn again! And thank you for introducing me to Taiko no Tatsujin, i went from complete beginner to Shodan level in just 13 days and now I can somewhat clear 9* Oni, I'm between 8 and 9* Oni with some Ura 8* here and there

I got this because of your recommendation! Love Arcaea, one of my most played games. I'm a thumb player and am struggling a lot with 9+ and higher. I've beaten one 10 on easy mode and OW my thumbs hurt haha Do you think it's harder with the Switch to be a thumb player? Should I start from zero and play with index fingers?
