Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your time with us. I love to see your excitement about new projects etc . I’m pleased that the comments make you feel happy because that’s how you make us all feel. Keep smiling 😊
Thank you for being real. I am so appreciating the way that you talk us through your thoughts and processes. It helps me keep going at my snail pace. Previous to watching your video I watched one where the quilter talked so fast I was left wondering if she had oxygen under her work station, she had speeded up the video or if she had a bus to catch. If it was an attempt to motivate, she failed and scared me into thinking "I'm too old for this malarkey." I have to dig my way through my sewing store to clear a space for a new bench. It's too cold for year round sewing in there so being able to organise better allows more efficient collection and return of resources (and so a tidier living/dining room.)
I really like Karen Brown’s declutter challenge. It’s sensible, paced, realistic and forgiving! Did it last year but not this year because I’m obsessed with getting some WIPs done. That in itself will declutter a lot of baskets, boxes and piles!
I just found my daughter's diaper pin. She just turned 51. I picked two challenges this year, Karen Brown's and The Quilted Forest. So far, it's working for me and I can see the difference in my studio. Since unearthing my fabric stash is my top priority, I've found that I already own wonderful fabrics that need to shine. Some may just need to shine in someone else's stash. I love your new format. It's different which keeps me interested in what you'll come up with next.😊
I just found a diaper pin in my pin "collection" too. And my babies are 40 and 37! I'm doing the Karen Brown Declutter Challenger too. I had company until Wednesday so I'm WAY behind. But I've cleaned my notions cabinet.
I keep an empty prescription bottle on my sewing table just for sharps (pins and eedles) discard. The orangey color makes the bottle easy to find among the other tools.
22 degrees out and snowing here in New Mexico. I've been helping my husband build a chicken coop /yard so no sewing. So cold, but coming inside and finding a new video from you just warmed me right up! Looking forward to all of your fun adventures...thank you for taking us along for the ride! As soon as I take some Advil and my fingers thaw out, I'll be settling in to work on hand binding a red and white swap quilt by the fire. Thank you for being you! You are a joy!
@@amydement. Newly retired, although ranchers never truly retire. 😉 Moved to a mountain property. Our chickens free range, but we're hoping to keep our girls safe at night from varmints. Thus, we're building a chicken version of Ft. Knox. 😂 I'm planning quilts while I'm out there though!
I love to “shop” from our free table at our Guild meetings! I have been making charity quilts and haven’t had to purchase any fabric at all lately. It’s so much fun. You did great!
Hello Beautiful! I’m blown away at your haul. I do not usually buy Christmas fabric either but… in December I bought a few bags of Christmas fabric scraps at a thrift store. In the bags were a bunch a 60 degree triangles, oodles of chunks and tons of strings. So I was inspired to make a scrappy 60 degree triangle quilt. I cut as many triangles as I could from the chunks and also made string blocks to cut into 60 degrees triangles. I finally got the triangles all pieced together last night. With all the leftover strings I made piano key strips (as leaders and Enders) I plan on adding a border or two and then the piano keys and maybe one more border. It has been a fun project. As I was making it I kept thinking of you as there were some pieces of red dot fabric in the mix. At about 11 seconds in I see some book carts. Did you buy one of those? Happy quilting! Great video!
Fran you project sounds fantastic! What a fun way to use scraps. I don’t have the book cart in the room yet but I will show it soon - as soon as I figure out where it’s going to live. 😊♥️
Glad you didn't get slammed with snow, your power stayed on, and the sun came back. Looks like there are going to be some really beautiful projects done this year. Best wishes on your lecture. Have a wonderful week.
I hate the cold weather too. Living in the south, we shouldn’t be having snow or cold weather. It must be the season or organization. I ve been working on my sewing room organizing. Great video
I'm in the same boat. I understand. I can't do hand work and using a rotary cutter or scissors can make my hands hurt for days. I use AccuQuilt for cutting. It's a game changer for me.
You are amazing and I hope you are able to find the joy in the journey. I completely understand chronic pain and the struggle to allow yourself to take the time it needs to work. ♥️♥️♥️
Pins , machine needles and rotary blades all go in an old parmesan cheese container. When full, it goes to the metal fabrication shop's scrap bin near my home. Small towns can be really great. It will be recycled and sharp blades get a new life. .
I love everything you got it will be fun to see what you make. I would gladly mail you some snow. Love hearing you talk about Karen Brown declutter. Empty pill bottles are great for getting rid of bent, broken disliked needles!
I agree. I think they are! They must have been extras because I think that’s where all the floppy corners came from. I find it fun to think about the scraps origins.
I’m glad I’m not the only one silly enough to colour coordinate their pins and pin cushions. I do like them but they flat head magic pins. The blue clover flower head pins are lovely and sharp for finer fabrics but they are also responsible for 99.9% of the blood that ever gets on my sewing projects! 😂 I like the jumbo clips, I use them for organising my basted EPP shapes. They can hold a whole blocks worth of shapes together. I’m not a fan of clips for use when sewing. Too fiddly to remove when machine sewing. Even when I use vinyl I will just pin in the seam allowance if I can. There’s dog hair everywhere in my house too. It gets into everything even though I vacuum daily. It’s the bassholes way of ensuring they aren’t forgotten about. It’s like a calling card! 😂 I’m loving this new informal style of your videos. It’s like you’re here chatting with me. Can’t believe I missed the zoom yesterday, but hey ho that’s just life. I’ll catch up with everyone next month.
♥️. We missed you yesterday. Oh yes those clover flower pins. I’ve had those extra fine ones in my pincushion for years and used to use them to pin rows of blocks together but YES- more often than not they would slice me open. So I got rid of those suckers! Great use for the jumbo clips. I’ll pass along that idea to the new recipient.
I have a prescription bottle for my bad pins. I wrote Bad Pins on the lid. The smartalic kid said what did the pins do to be called bad? I love Karens Declutter challenge. Each year my space gets more defined and refined. Fabric still needs to work down but i am making more time to do what makes me happy!
I am really enjoying your new format! Every day life is interesting and I love that you are taking time to share it with us! I also have the occasional dog needing a bit of love which I love to give! 😁 I’ve had to definitely pivot in the past 6 weeks! I’m hoping to be able to put all the health issues in the past and be back in my sewing room by February 1st. It may be an ambitious goal but I need quilting therapy! I miss it so much! Your channel has definitely helped me get through these weeks!❤ The fabrics you scored are awesome! I’m looking forward to seeing what you create with the polka dots and the ‘flippy things’ actually anything you make!!!🥰 Good luck on your lecture! I’m sure it will be amazing! Are you going to be able to record and share some of it with us?! I’m having a little FOMO and that’s why I’m asking! Have a lovely week!😊
Thank you for your kind words - I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the new format! 😊. February 1 is an ambitious goal but sometimes and ambitious goal is exactly what we need! You’re sweet about the lecture. Thank you. I am working on a way to share the concepts in the future but it’s early days yet.
I keep a jar with its lid by my sewing machine for used blades, machine needles, & bent pins. When it gets full I can dispose of it. I don't remember who or where this tip came from
Too funny, I'm watching you for something to do while I'm working on Karen's declutter challenge, I'm a bit behind though, I'm still going through thread, I'm pretty horrified at how much I'm having to dump because it has become brittle
Ha! Yes 30 c is 🥵 I forget to convert (which is very US centric) everywhere else in The world uses metric (like rational people!). Ill keep that in mind going forward 😜😊♥️
I love your Posts. They bring me joy! But i do have a question - do you worry about your pets stepping on needles and pins or eating thread? I have heard lots of horror stories.
Yes I do! I try to be very careful and thread especially can be a problem. I have magnets that I use if I drop things and I try to empty my thread catchers into a closed trash can.

@@DirtRoadQuilter what is a swap quilt? I don't know that phrase.
That sounds like a fun project but not in the cold 🥶 gotta do what you gotta do though right. I'm so glad this video warmed you up! ♥️

Good plan! Thanks.

Thank you! I am so glad you enjoy the blog format 😊♥️
I use old pill bottles to keep old rotary cutter blades in, mark top with used.
Good idea!

I feel you! I hate the cold weather too. I’m not built for it! Thanks so much for watching and I hope your organizing is going well.
I live with chronic pain so I have to take breaks and it takes me longer to finish anything which is frustrating lol but I manage 😊

Those jelly roll blocks with the triangles in them (in the Christmas colors) look like the start of a Jelly Roll Sizzle pattern from Fat Quarter Shop.

I can't use pin cushions - have a cat who likes to play with them - can't leave anything out pinned - so mine are in closed containers.
