1. The driver could have been better 2. RX7 with bolt on's is trouble trust me that thing kicks ass 3. RX7 is a legendary Japanese car i kinda expected it to win from a roll even though the driver could have been better.
Amazing how the catted sti was able to pull better on top when he is way more restricted due to the cats. Must have a more aggressive tune! Great pulls great video! The FD is clean!
haha I own a 91 S5 FC3C myself. It's not the quickest FC by any means, but it makes up for lack of straight line speed in it's cornering capability. I love ripping it through mountain roads, and on the freeway, at night, blasting some Super Eurobeat like they play during races on Initial D. It's absolutely fantastic :D
gud race mate, although you did not win, it nice to see the difference in results. the rx7 is a lighter car and its got more top end power, nice video mate!
This isn't really a fair race when the two Subies are running a stage 2 setup and by subie definition the RX7 is on a stage 4 setup. What turbo was the FD running? FYI: I had a 355whp bugeye and now currently have a 570whp FD.
it also can make you lose control. i know that in my car anything over 120mph it can make me whip back and forth with windows open. then when i roll em up it'll snap back into the groves and go staight til I max out.
do the cats really make that big of a difference in performance?? ppl around here always get them taken off but i always thought it was for sound purposes
What upgraded turbos? What bolt-ons? The fact that you say turbos likely means its still running stock twins at a higher psi, and the max power MOST people get out of the stock turbos is still in the 300s and thats with all the bolt ons... No cat and a tune can easily get in the 300s in a 2012 Subaru.
You know, having your windows down makes your car a lot (a little) slower. Your rear windshield acts as a parachute for all of the trapped air inside your car. Not sure if people understand this or not.
It looked like you were shifting way to late on the pulls you did. I make peak power in my car around 4700 RPMs (12 STI LMT//TBEw/3inchexhaust/EL headers//intake) (Maybe just a bad angle in the vid), The car really starts to fall flat on it's face after that.. Also, the limited is the heaviest of all three iterations of the STI (Hatch is actually the lightest) and about 100-140lbs heavier than a hawkeye depending on what is inside.
Haha sweet. When no one is around my car I take it through some dirt trails, gravel, and practice drifting until I can get enough power out of it to drift with the tires it currently has (Hankook Ventus V12)
I am not surprised, a pro-tune yields more power than COBB of the shelf (OTS) tune even if the Pro-tuned car had the catted exhaust. Also, the guy with the Stage II tune was running the lowest possible performance tune (ACN 91).
"and the max power MOST people get out of the stock turbos is still in the 300s and thats with all the bolt ons.. No cat and a tune can easily get in the 300s in a 2012 Subaru" All the bolt ons? What are "all the bolt ons"?
The problem here gentlemen is that the 2012 was using a crappy off the shelf cobb map. The 07 was protuned which yields much more power than an ots map. You get that '12 protuned brother and you will take both of them.
The FD with "upgraded" turbo's will still be close to stock power. The difference here is the FD wasn't just designed for the track/corners but it is a top end car and power/weight ratio is unlike no other for it's class. The STI will always have torque though...
How is a rotary engine "complex". It is the most simplistic engine design ever created. You've basically got ONE moving part. Rotary engines do not make INSTANT power. THEY HAVE NO TORQUE! They make good power for their size but yes i agree, they are definitely not economical for everyday use.
Whenever u race a rwd car u gotta do it from a dig homie. Trust me you would’ve gapped him from a dig but he’s got the roll advantage and weight advantage too
vincent chew the rx7 has less body roll, sits lower, 50:50 perfect weight distribution, engine mounted behind the front axle.. smooth rotary engine twin turbo'd. awd cars understeer as the engines cg is over the front axle and nose heavy. the sti will give it a run for its money, but in the end of the day the sti and evo are 4 door sedans with engines over the front axle they are great all rounders that are quick.
Also I am not sure if the new sti's are equipped with the same gears but I know the 2007 sti had the longest gear ratios of at least all its predecessors...I actually watched a video I think car and driver conducted it of a bone stock 2007 sti vs a bone stock 2011 sti sedan and the 2007 sti was actually .3 seconds faster in the 1/4 but the 011 sedan was faster on the turns.
no, what is the most common type of engine, I'll give you a hint.. its not a rotary... they are cool but rotaries are not great and that is why many manufactures have stayed clear of them.
Rotary's are also extremely light weight and the power created from something so small is remarkable...only reason no one makes them is cuz they are not efficient...mpg sucks..but sports car enthusianst dont care..237hp out of a NA 1.2 liter?
Loved watching that rx7 walk away
I know right
Yes!
damn for a FBO rx-7 that sti did amazing
man thats great that the STI staid side by side with the rx7 for a good laps of time
1. The driver could have been better
2. RX7 with bolt on's is trouble trust me that thing kicks ass
3. RX7 is a legendary Japanese car i kinda expected it to win from a roll even though the driver could have been better.

This video is awesome! close races and both were fun to watch not to mention being a good sport about it(funny faces)
oh you almost had it.. gonna have to try harder than that.. state farm lol
You gotta be quicker than that 😂😂

gud race mate, although you did not win, it nice to see the difference in results. the rx7 is a lighter car and its got more top end power,
nice video mate!
Yeah he has a custom tune, uprated fuel pump and is a little lighter. thanks!
Legit horn countdown! none of that beep, beepbeep!
Cool video! Hope to see more!

Do you know when you need an upgrade? When you shift to 3rd gear and other cars left you behind...
it also can make you lose control. i know that in my car anything over 120mph it can make me whip back and forth with windows open. then when i roll em up it'll snap back into the groves and go staight til I max out.
Touche you got me haha. Filmed in 'Mexico', right? ;)
do the cats really make that big of a difference in performance?? ppl around here always get them taken off but i always thought it was for sound purposes
Thanks for the reply, also for not trolling me about my question.. haha
What upgraded turbos? What bolt-ons?
The fact that you say turbos likely means its still running stock twins at a higher psi, and the max power MOST people get out of the stock turbos is still in the 300s and thats with all the bolt ons...

Man i give respect to both cars man kept up well but im sure that the rx7 is light
You know, having your windows down makes your car a lot (a little) slower. Your rear windshield acts as a parachute for all of the trapped air inside your car. Not sure if people understand this or not.
Mexico is looking a lot nicer these days.
Doesn't having your windows down like that give you a lot of Drag?? Just wondering.. (Hope no trolls see this)

Do the 2007's have the same gearing as the new models?
nice runs bro
Damn, Nice camera angle
Lets see more of the FD!
noooo. monica!!!!
@GLENN FATJO The fast and the furious
Never had a chance, did like Dawson though!
Haha sweet. When no one is around my car I take it through some dirt trails, gravel, and practice drifting until I can get enough power out of it to drift with the tires it currently has (Hankook Ventus V12)
what type of wheels are on white 07 sti? it looks gunmetal colorish..
I am not surprised, a pro-tune yields more power than COBB of the shelf (OTS) tune even if the Pro-tuned car had the catted exhaust. Also, the guy with the Stage II tune was running the lowest possible performance tune (ACN 91).
what type wheels are those on that white sti? it looks gray
Thank you John Madden!
"and the max power MOST people get out of the stock turbos is still in the 300s and thats with all the bolt ons.. No cat and a tune can easily get in the 300s in a 2012 Subaru"
All the bolt ons? What are "all the bolt ons"?
Theres no turbo lag on a rotary? Wtf?! Are you crazy?
What did you use to mount your cobb ap on the vent?
good race bro !
The White STi is actually a 2001-2002 V7
Why did he rev it in the beginning?
may i know you're recording using what type of camcorder, thank you
yeah, i know when the bugeye was built but as far as i can see theres a hawkeye in this video
I wanna see more of that 07 sti. UA-cam channel anyone??
i liked the like button cause i liked your reply.
That rx7 is really really light!
Exactly! I told my friend that too but my friend keeps comparing Subarus to Camaros and Mustangs there not even in the same class...
The problem here gentlemen is that the 2012 was using a crappy off the shelf cobb map. The 07 was protuned which yields much more power than an ots map. You get that '12 protuned brother and you will take both of them.
Can u tell me the name of the song?
07 STi gearing FTW!
The FD with "upgraded" turbo's will still be close to stock power. The difference here is the FD wasn't just designed for the track/corners but it is a top end car and power/weight ratio is unlike no other for it's class. The STI will always have torque though...
Nice vid
^^ yeah!! rotary torque too right?(rolling eyes)
Dude, you you go quicker with your windows fully closed. It effects your aero and hence top end potential.
RX-7 driver knows how to shift
my friend has one, very stable :P always keep both hands on my teg's wheel, gets a lot of bump steer
Agreed on the lower gear for the pull. But... I don't think your 02 would win unless pretty heavily modded
lol you are telling me, I have a dc5 and the wheel goes everywhere when accelerating on a bumpy road
thats not a bugeye though. you seem confused
is that touch screen stock??
in a car as stable as that, in a straight line, you only really need one finger.
07 through 2013 have the same gearing brotha...
Whats uprated turbo?
stock?
MONICAAAA !!!
My mistake, all my comments have been based on if it was the bugeye, didn't realise it was a hawkeye. Sincere apologies.
Rotary Power!!
on a roll race rwd ftw!
How is a rotary engine "complex". It is the most simplistic engine design ever created. You've basically got ONE moving part. Rotary engines do not make INSTANT power. THEY HAVE NO TORQUE!
They make good power for their size but yes i agree, they are definitely not economical for everyday use.
You should try to hold the wheel with two hands between shifts. It's been proven by professional drivers to be alot safer.
yea its creates drag, would help to put it up but prob not enough to beat that rx7, maybe the other sti though
Rx7 had a passenger too..
LOL @ ACN91. I feel for you.
cat doesnt take away that much power. its the pro tune that gave the other car the advantage
thanks! time for more powwaaaaaaaaa :)
Whenever u race a rwd car u gotta do it from a dig homie. Trust me you would’ve gapped him from a dig but he’s got the roll advantage and weight advantage too
prayers
Subarus arent meant for drag race ; take some turns preferably race track lets see who gets all the win ;)
vincent chew the rx7 has less body roll, sits lower, 50:50 perfect weight distribution, engine mounted behind the front axle.. smooth rotary engine twin turbo'd.
awd cars understeer as the engines cg is over the front axle and nose heavy.
the sti will give it a run for its money, but in the end of the day the sti and evo are 4 door sedans with engines over the front axle they are great all rounders that are quick.
RX7 will still win lol now if you said a rally course then that would be a different story
+adR1angloc neither was the rx7..? lol
+Jared Tate the subarus arnt as shitty as you think
layesse1 I own one, they're amazing.
who will win depends on the driver.
That RX7 gearing though.
Fuck, i want an RX7 and a STI.....
yup, hard to be the 5.0 for new with the money.
120+ in a 55 zone.. nice
Troll face FTW!
bugeye 02-03, blobeye 04-05, hawkeye 06-07, smiling samurai 08-10, widebody secks 11+ :D
How did the 07 sti win? Lol.
That's AWD for you my friend.
DAMN that FD aint no joke! Lol
no,
what is the most common type of engine, I'll give you a hint..
its not a rotary... they are cool but rotaries are not great and that is why many manufactures have stayed clear of them.
...and you should only use the clutch for 1st gear...
I've never driven an sti so I can't comment but usually, when cars reach higher speeds they tend to get less stable....
Everything changes when the Toyota nation bought out Subaru ;,( up to the '07's, those are the best models
Rotary's are also extremely light weight and the power created from something so small is remarkable...only reason no one makes them is cuz they are not efficient...mpg sucks..but sports car enthusianst dont care..237hp out of a NA 1.2 liter?
The hawk eye STi is definitely 06-07....learn more about what your saying in the comments before your say anything, please
Van Der Beek For The TROLL!!!
maybe the 2012 sti would have done better if his windows were up to reduce wind drag
DAWSOOOOOOOOONNNNN FUUUUUUUUUUU
Wtf, was santa driving that rx7?
sport tech package you get the screen, if not you wont get it.
Turbo is making most of the power.....
