+Zoe Valdez I was scrolling through comments and I thought "hey! That name is like Zoe and Valdez from pjo and heroes of Olympus! .... Then I saw your profile pic. You- my dear stranger friend- are awesome.
I live in Australia and the most frustrating thing is that bookstores don't STOCK HARDCOVERS, and if they do, they are triple the price of paperbacks. You always have to order them online and it takes three weeks to get over here because of the PACIFIC OCEAN. You have no idea how lucky you guys are when you can just walk into Target and there're a million hardcovers just over $10
YASSS! You are my hero! I've been reading for 3 years, and I only have a handful of hardcovers because my local bookstore doesn't have any of the books I want in paperback, let alone have the book in hardcover. The closest bookstore to me is about 30-35 minutes. (I'm Aussie as well.)
Ruelux Prince Dude, you get me! it's the same in London, at least where I live in London. THEY DON'T HAVE HARDCOVER AND I'M JUST HERE LIKE WHY WHY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I went to a job interview for a chain bookstore last year and they told me in the interview they mostly make money off of selling the non-book things instead of actual books (like games, toys, small knicknacks). So it never surprises me anymore when I can't find a book I want, because the company seems to be under the impression that people don't go to a bookstore to... buy books? I'm sure the issue is more complicated than that, BUT STILL.
i feel better actually going to the bookstore and looking through the books and finding the ones i want. I was in Target one day & found City of Heavenly Fire and literally screamed YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! and held it up like Simba & I regret nothing
My Barnes and Noble is 30 miles away from my house, and I went to get the Divergent series in all hardcover. THE FIRST BOOK WAS PAPERBACK! And of course, all the others were hard cover. WHO DOES THAT?!?!
Love this rant! It's so true I was in the bookstore today (called Waterstones kinda like a British version of Barnes and Noble) and some poor kid was having to deal with the whole 'we don't have it but I can order it for you' crap and I was like 'awww man he doesn't know.' And another thing they ask you like a MILLION QUESTIONS about the book you pre-order: 'what's the authors name?' 'How do spell that?' 'What is her Aunt Margaret's pant size?!' Like...AAAAHHHHH!!!
I remember when I went to Barnes and Noble to pick up the Infernal Devices series - when Clockwork Princess came out - and I couldn't Clockwork Angel. So i went to the guy at the Customer Service desk and asked him about it. It ended up being a back-and-forth of him trying to convince me that I was looking for A Clockwork Orange. I ended up having to all but force him to search for the title, as if there are not other books with Clockwork in its title. Then I go actually purchase the 2 books that I could find and the lady tries to convince to buy a membership. After I say no she goes on and on about how beneficial it is, and I still turn her down. So she tells me if I don't she'll get fired......
In the UK we have Waterstones and Foyles. There are Waterstones like everywhere and there's one the same street where I live and the next one is 10 minutes away. Great right? Wrong. They never have any of the books I want! It's torture! So although I literally live on top of TWO bookstores I still have to order the majority of my books online...
thebooklover yes! One of my favourite things ever! I have a huge Chapters 5 mins away from my house and an Indigo store 10 mins away!!! It's. Just. The. Best. Thing. Ever.
Natalie Mosko I have BAM but it'd smallish and they push SO hard for the $25 membership it's so uncomfortable. Borders had a free membership and coupons ever my week. RIP
totally agree.... my barnes n noble doesnt have the first book to the Lunar series (only the 2 and 3 one), so I had to buy it online. LOL the struggle.
have you tried bookdepository.com? they usually always have at least 10% off every book and it's free shipping worldwide.(and they give free bookmarks!!!! there are 20 designs each year and sry in rambling again I'm pretty sure no one cares about the bookmarks sry byeee)
THIS IS SO TRUE. BUT IMAGINE IF YOU DIDN'T LIVE IN THE USA (OR ANY PLACE WHERE YOU HAVE BARNES & NOBLES), IT'S WORSE TRUST ME. I HAVE TO WAIT MONTHS AND MONTHS, BECAUSE I HAVE PLEASURE IN READING IN ENGLISH THAT NO ONE UNDERSTANDS.
I swear there are like 0 chairs in Barnes and noble. If I'm checking out a book I need to read at least 10-20 pages, and chances are I have an armful of other books. Please. I just want chairs.
the accuracy, it hurts! I also just like browsing in an actual bookstore and finding something good I hadn't heard of. I can't flip through things or skim when it's online. At least there are a few local bookstores in my college's town, but they don't always have the newer releases that I want. I CAN'T WIN!
You can buy several versions on etsy. However, if you want a cheaper version that comes with the bragging rights of having made it yourself, someone made a CHB graphic (you can find this by doing an image search on good for camp half blood shirt). Then you go to the craft store, get a bottle of Tulip Soft fabric paint and an orange t-shirt (together only less than $9, unless you use a coupon, which makes it even cheaper), and a box of freezer paper from the grocer store (MUST be freezer paper and not wax or parchment). UA-cam freezer paper stencil and go to town. Total you've spent less than $14 and you can make a TON of shirts with the paint and freezer paper for yourself or friends. I've made four CHB and two Camp Jupiter shirts this way and still have a TON of black and gold paint left and haven't even made a dent in my freezer paper, despite having made over 10 shirts using the freezer paper method. The final result looks absolutely amazing and everyone who sees them thinks they're professionally screen printed. Also, if you make them yourself, you can put things like cabin number and your name on the back to personalize it. But yeah, if you just want to buy one, there are plenty of sellers on etsy who have various different imaginings of the shirt.
I remember when the malls used to have 2 to 3 bookstores in them. Now everything is online, Barnes and Nobel, the grocery store, Goodwill, and garage sales. It is a shame!
Barnes and Noble may never have any Chronicles of Nick book in stock but THANK GOD they have an endless supply of The Fault in Our Stars. Because everybody wants to fucking read that. And I'm so glad when you order the Song of Ice and Fire boxed set from their website they send you Acid Alkaline Diet for Dummies instead. Another great thing about their online service is that when I ordered the first two Spice and Wolf books, paid for express 1-3 day shipping, I didn't get them until 3 months later. Both books banged up to shit too. I love Barnes and Noble! /sarcasm
+Devin Fuoco I've only used Amazon, Bookdepository, and Bookoutlet...all three of them are excellent. Here we have Indigo (book store), and most of them are inside malls. Yea..
I’m a B&N bookseller and believe me I don’t get the whole first book thing either; we always seem to take only the first book off the shelves?? Huh?? Well if that’s what corporate wants... Also, we have to give you the whole membership talk and I’m so sorry xD but how else are we going to meet our requirements? All our stores are understaffed so it’s impossible to get the new releases out on the floor in time, or even find them in the back room >.>
The funny thing is my closest Barnes&Nobles is about 1 hour from my house, but it could take hours to get there, because I have to cross the Canada-USA border. Luckily, I have a Chapters about 10 minutes from my house.
I work in a bookstore and it's standard to only keep popular titles on the shelves - so if a book doesn't meet the expected target, it'll be pulled from the stock and sent back to the supplier. Ordering books actually helps because it lets the people placing the big orders with publishers know which books are in demand. If a series is missing the first title in the series, chances are its been purchased recently and the store hasn't had a chance to reorder it yet.
Lol this exact situation just happened to me today!! And my closest barnes & nobles is on a college campus so they have no real parking lot and i have to find a park randomly 3 miles away -___-
Omg it took a whole week for my "B&N membership express shipping" to get to me too!! Amazon prime is forever in my heart now between book outlet orders
Oh my goodness! I completely agree with you! I live in Alaska and the only book store we had in town was waldens which was owned by borders so now if I want to go to a book store I have to drive all the way to anchorage which is an hour away to go to Barnes and noble! Its awful!
I bought the new Soman Chainaini book SIGNED 4 months ago from Barnes and Noble, is it here yet.... NO! Am I gonna go search the bookstore.... NO! Bc I have hope.... and my parents won't let me and I can't f****** find the dam book on a bookstore!
As a former bookstore employee and constant bookstore shopper, I know it's super frustrating when this happens. I'd suggest you go online and check out their inventory BEFORE you go to the store and reserve your copy before driving over. You can still browse the shelves while knowing that if you don't find it, you have a copy saved for you at the register. Just think of it like insurance for your book browsing! Everyone wins. :)
Well-A LONG while ago,Borders is no more, then that building becomes BAM (books a million) So far the closest and my favorite book store. Then my worst nightmare happens BAM was moving WHYYYYYYY. Especially after I got a membership card a week before they closed it -_-
I liv in australia and it is the biggest pain trying to buy books. They have the last book in a series or the second book but never the first. You go to ask them they say they dont have it and offer to order it for you. Frustration doesn't begin to describe what i feel when i go the some book stores. Thank goodness there are a few alternatives.
I miss books a million, my town used to have it but then Barnes moved in and ran million out of business in my town, and the closest millions is 2 and a half hours away....
You can actually check if a book is in close by Chapters or its affliated stores (the big book chain here in Canada) and how many copies they have on the website. Also in the store, there are kiosks/computers stations that search the store's inventory and you can print out the location.
"Vampire Academy book 1?" "Is that House of Night?" "NO" "Not here." Lololololol I laughed so hard at this!! My sister and I were just talking last night about these two books being compared all the time!
I work at a book store, and while I understand some of your frustration, we are actually super limited! We only have so much floor space and can't stock old books, and we are required to ask customers to join clubs. Also many of our customers can't or don't like to order online, so they're super happy when we offer to order for them or see if another store has it in stock. Just giving people options! Personally I hate when customers treat books poorly, or don't put them back in the right place!
I AGREE!!! You are the reason I took all my stuff out of my bookshelf and put all the books back in catagories and marvel at the fact that I have 100 more...somewhere! I love your videos!
Honestly, I am a bookseller at B&N, and most of the time if we don't have a book, its either because a)we are sold out, or b) there wasn't a high enough demand in our store for that book, and we had to send it back to the warehouse. We always offer to see if we can order it into the store for you (which takes about 2 days), ship it to you for cheaper than the in store price (non members this takes about a week, members is 3-4 business days), or offer to see if another location has it. If the location that you frequent doesn't do this, then they aren't doing their job very well.
RELATE! In ILocos Norte, Philippines. Before 2012 when our bookstore came out, our nearest book store is 2 hrs away from us. But when after they built a SMALL bookstores, they we're effing bad. I've been ordering The Fault In Our Stars in 8 months, and still they haven't got in it yet. I'am force to buy it in amazon, but no worries because I will pick it up nxt month
I have 3 Barnes and Noble that are 10-15 min from my house. THREE! I live in Phoenix where you'll burst into flames if you are outside for too long so EVERYTHING is close by. They even have the same store within a few blocks from each other just in case one of the store combust.
Let me tell you about how I visited a bookstore 3 times to get "The Heroes Of Olympus: The Mark Of Athena". I went there a few days after it was released and they didn't have it and I asked someone about it and they said to come back at the end of the month. [FAST-FORWARD TO LATE OCTOBER] They still didn't have it!! and I ask about it again, "Come back at the end of next month! =D" [FAST-FORWARD TO LATE NOVEMBER] and THEY STILL DIDN'T HAVE IT!!! and I ask about it again and I get THE!.SAME!.RESPONSE!!!! DX< and then a crazy thing happened...THEY BROUGHT THE BOOK IN JANUARY!!! and I ended up getting it as a B-day present!. That was a nightmare to get that book -___-"
I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, I agree! I don't have Barnes and Noble because I live in England, but Waterstones has the same problem. I had to wait about an age for Mark of Athena. *sighs* Book stores these days...
Yay for being Canadian! We have a Coles or Chapters bookstore at basically every mall! They always have the books right away when they come out and usually have the book you want in the store already! :) and the closest one to me is only 10 mins!
I totally agree with this! I use to live within a 10 minute walking distance from Books-A-Million and a thirty minute bus ride to Barnes and Nobles. I moved to Kent, Ohio to go to University and the closest book store is in Downtown Kent, its a used bookstore. I love this story just they aren't going to have the new books when they come out. And Barnes and Nobles is an Akron and I don't have a car. I would have to catch the bus and if I miss the bus, I'm stuck in Akron. XD
I live in a small beach town in Australia and there is not a single book store here. There used to be, but no one was buying the books, so it closed. I now have to order all my books online, or sometimes the department store will have some that I want.
When I order things online I usually completely forget about it and then 2-3 days later I GET A SURPRISE BOOK IN THE MAIL ITS LIKE A PRESENT FOR MYSELF SENT FROM THE PAST
You are sooo lucky to get your books so soon! I usually have to wait 4-5 weeks for a book I want to come out, and Amazon doesn't even deliver here, no libraries and most of the bookstores suck anyways. I mean, all we have are borders, MPH and NO BARNES AND NOBLES :,(
Some days ago I finished reading Clockwork Angel and I fell so in love with it, that I immediatly went to the book store to buy Clockwork Prince. They actually had it but here in Germany we have the series in two different designs and the Clockwork Prince book didn't fit to my Clockwork Angel book, and I want them to look good when I put them into my shelf next to each other. So now I'm gonna order them even if I like it much more to buy books in a book store :P
There was a Barnes and Noble right next to my house, I could ride my bike there and pick up books whenever I wanted to! My friends and I would go the that bookstore and do homework and hang out. I loved it! But a few months ago, it closed down. The closest B&N is miles away, so buying books is kind of a hassle. RIP bookstores :(
i feel your pain... my book store used to be 5 minutes away, but they went out of business, now the closest barnes and noble or something like that is 6 dang hours away! and I really don't want to wait two weeks for a book to be shipped to me! MUST READ!
I so agree with you with the frustrations they bring sometimes especially when the book you have isnt available. I mean the feeling of excitement of getting its is completely ruined because they dont have it. lucky for u you have hardcopies here (phil) we barely have but anyways the triumph of finding it its just priceless esp when u are the one looking it for uself except the frustration when it isnt available and the the sales attendant isnt helping. I had same experience with Clockwork Prince
I used to go to the bookstore near me, but then I ended up hugging the bookshelves when they had books I bought previously and loved, which then led to the frustration of realising I didn't have enough money to buy the "pretties" I so desperately wanted, which, finally, led to the discovery of Amazon and how frustration-free it was. Still...I do like making the trip to the bookstore anyway. It is a nice feeling.
I prefer book stores then online book stores. It's more fun goin there and see the selection and picking a random book and look through it. Online all u see is the cover and a little description.
I live in Canada and we have Chapters, Indigo, and Coles here, and my local Indigo is only like 10 minutes away, but i totally know what you mean with the books not being there thing! Or when it SAYS pn a website that they have 1-2 copies left and u get there and they have NONE left. Or when people just leave books sitting around the store OUT OF PLACE! And I know i already asked this in the comments last week, but where did u get your t-shirt? I love it!
all I can say is ... totally agree! I don't have barns and noble here, but the book store in my city is also similar to it, so yeah ... pretty much. And I love you T-shirt!
Omg yes. In my town, we had tiny bookstores. Then, one shuts down because clients complained on how the owner treats its customers, Barnes and Noble shut down as well, and another shuts down. All I'm left with is Books-A-Million. Although it's a great place and wonderful employees, it's 15-20 minutes away PLUS traffic!
I think the reason why the first book is usually missing is because it's in higher demand than the later books because you can always start a series but not everyone will continue it so the first book is out of stock more often than the the second or third, etc.
You have to be lucky and look realy well. In Fnacs they sometimes have some. I bought my copy of The BookThief there, if I remeber correctly. Also Waterstone and Sterlings in Brussels sell hardcovers. Don't bother with the Standaard unless it's a realy big one. In de Slechte (second hand bookstore don't know if you ever heard of it) they sell hardcovers. But they're realy expensive compared to the paperback, like DVD expensive. So I always opt for online stores or paperbacks
Christine, where do you always get your fan-articles?? They're just soo awesome! *O* ..For example the clockwork-angel...or the camp half-blood shirt ...?
Christine, you're lucky you have to wait for like a week. I live in Bulgaria, Europe and not only we do not have hardcover editions here bot 95% of the books I want are not even sold on English (or translated for that matter). So I order on amazon. How long do I have to wait? Well I've been waiting of my Mara Dyer books since 13th December -.-
completely agree! I went there and found one book that I wanted... in the wrong section. Then I spent about seven minutes at Customer Service spelling Kaleb Nation. Yep. Couldn't get it right. Got the same reaction when they did. I then looked all around the store thinking "well if that other one was in the wrong section, maybe this one is too!" I left with another book that was also in a weird section. If they aren't going to have all the books, can't they shelve the ones they have correctly?
Omg I can relate to everything you said here! I also ordered a bunch of books online since our local bookstore didn't have them yet. They told me to send the list of books I wanna buy and my contact number and that they'll contact me once the books have arrived. They told me the books will be available a week after I ordered them. This was during the second week of October. It's November now and I still haven't heard updates from them yet. The books I requested should've been out by now! UGHHH THE FRUSTRATION, THE FEELS, ARE REAL! :'((
The closest Barnes & Nobles for me is in New York and I live in Australia
+xbook queenx THE STRUGGLE!! I feel for you.
+Zoe Valdez I was scrolling through comments and I thought "hey! That name is like Zoe and Valdez from pjo and heroes of Olympus! .... Then I saw your profile pic. You- my dear stranger friend- are awesome.
Kim Flanagan
Why thank you! You my dear stranger friend are too awesome
+Zoe Valdez My scenario is worse because when they order the book for me at the shop I HAVE TO WAIT THREE FREAKIN WEEKS
I UNDERSTAND
There is an ocean and a continent between me and the closest barns and nobles
Same...
Bgm Evrnl THAT IS LITERALLY SO SAD!!
Jup. But we at least have Bruna

What a lovely hyper-caffeinated wonder this girl is.
Thank you, Chapters for existing in Canada and for having basically 100% of the books I want.
Waiting 5-7 business days? Try 20 -40. :P
I feel u
DiamantaBralova preach
DiamantaBralova fucking bye time to leave the store
IKR??
My fucking life as a non American fangirl *sigh*
Coming back here again after 8 years and I'm amazed at how this is one of the only videos where I actually know almost every line being said 😭

Lord Nick The worst part is that B&N actually does fire employees if they don't reach a certain number of sales on memberships. It's awful.
Want to know something? No one caressss
NekuTheNuzlocke Omg that is very strict and horrible for the employees. I feel sorry for them.
Lord Nick OMG REALLY?
B&N doesn't exist in my country though
Aldilla Yasmin Inas Which country?

I never order online from B&N. I only buy their leatherbound classics. Everything else, I get from someone else.
It is also really annoying to me when they have like book two or three or four on sale, but not the first book in the series.
I work at a Barnes and Noble, and it's become all about selling memberships and merch instead of books. It makes me sad. =[
I cannot stress enough how true this is. It is SO frustrating when any of this happens. Glad someone else actually gets it! Thank you!!
"How far is the closest Barnes and Nobel for you?"
Ummm. 9 hours by plane.
You take the words right out of my mouth in every rant you do.
The video finished like five minutes ago and I'm STILL laughing. This is so true and so funny
I’m a B&N bookseller and believe me I don’t get the whole first book thing either; we always seem to take only the first book off the shelves?? Huh?? Well if that’s what corporate wants...

Just outside, but really close
First off, the lighting is amazing in this video. Second off, your gorgeous. Thirdly, I feel you.
The closest decent book store to my house is over an hour and half away. Thats 3 HOURS there and back!
YES - the whole never having the first in the series of ANYTHING. WHY IS THE REST OF THE BIG ASS SERIES THERE THEN?! WHY?!
Oh my goodness! I completely agree with you! I live in Alaska and the only book store we had in town was waldens which was owned by borders so now if I want to go to a book store I have to drive all the way to anchorage which is an hour away to go to Barnes and noble! Its awful!
Us British have Waterstones! WHICH is sooooo expensive...
Yay another British person! :D
Mio Nio go WH Smith’s instead
You've said it all. All the while watching you, I smiled and thought "yup, yup, yup!". Couldn't have said it better myself
Then my worst nightmare happens
BAM was moving
WHYYYYYYY.
Especially after I got a membership card a week before they closed it -_-
RainbowshinePets then they replaced with Bob's Furniture. How nice -_-
+RainbowshinePets when Borders closed in my town it got replaced by a wine store. :(
Mine got replaced with another shoe store.
I go to books a million. It's like heaven on earth!
Pipe the f*ck down , barnes and nobles, pipe the f*ck down. HAHAHAHHHHAHAHAHAH😂
I've watched this video dozens of times and never get sick of it. RIP BORDERS!
"Vampire Academy book 1?" "Is that House of Night?" "NO" "Not here."
Lololololol I laughed so hard at this!!
Personally I hate when customers treat books poorly, or don't put them back in the right place!
half price books?
I AGREE!!!
You are the reason I took all my stuff out of my bookshelf and put all the books back in catagories and marvel at the fact that I have 100 more...somewhere!
I love your videos!
YES. YES. SO. TRUE. I CAN'T EVEN. OHMYGOD.
I NEED SOME AIR.
I'am force to buy it in amazon, but no worries because I will pick it up nxt month
yeah um.... I live 2 hours from Barnes & Noble...
omg im so sorry....that sucks
it's a dreary existence...
There is also Chapters in Canada
Lol don't u Americans have Chapters and Indigo too?
I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, I agree! I don't have Barnes and Noble because I live in England, but Waterstones has the same problem. I had to wait about an age for Mark of Athena. *sighs* Book stores these days...
FUCKING.
AGREE.
COMPLETELY.
shouldopenmyowndamnstoreatthatpoint...
wait.
i would never get work done.
best job ever.
Yay for being Canadian! We have a Coles or Chapters bookstore at basically every mall! They always have the books right away when they come out and usually have the book you want in the store already! :) and the closest one to me is only 10 mins!
Lol like Simba
I totally agree with this! I use to live within a 10 minute walking distance from Books-A-Million and a thirty minute bus ride to Barnes and Nobles. I moved to Kent, Ohio to go to University and the closest book store is in Downtown Kent, its a used bookstore. I love this story just they aren't going to have the new books when they come out. And Barnes and Nobles is an Akron and I don't have a car. I would have to catch the bus and if I miss the bus, I'm stuck in Akron. XD
so freaking relatable XD
Omigosh with that Camp Half-Blood tshirt and your exceptional blonde hair, you look so much like Annabeth Chase❤❤
At least you're lucky that you don't live in a third world country :''(
I feel the struggle sista✌️ where are u from?
+Marwa Abdeen tell me about it💔💔
At least you got the beautiful, shiny copy of Insurgent
RIP bookstores :(
I feel like you just made my day
I swear this made my morning haha and I feel you about the not finding books/preorder thing amazon does that to me
i feel your pain... my book store used to be 5 minutes away, but they went out of business, now the closest barnes and noble or something like that is 6 dang hours away! and I really don't want to wait two weeks for a book to be shipped to me! MUST READ!
i adore your camp half blood shirt! where did u get it? Also i feel your pain when buying books!!!!.....rip borders!!!!
LOVE YOUR SHIRT CHRISTINE!!!
Love your shirt!!!!!!! Will you do the Kane Chronicles??
I think the reason why the first book is usually missing is because it's in higher demand than the later books because you can always start a series but not everyone will continue it so the first book is out of stock more often than the the second or third, etc.
You should do a book cover video
You have to be lucky and look realy well. In Fnacs they sometimes have some. I bought my copy of The BookThief there, if I remeber correctly. Also Waterstone and Sterlings in Brussels sell hardcovers. Don't bother with the Standaard unless it's a realy big one. In de Slechte (second hand bookstore don't know if you ever heard of it) they sell hardcovers. But they're realy expensive compared to the paperback, like DVD expensive. So I always opt for online stores or paperbacks
this is brilliantly done!! Im verbally agreeing and getting really strange looks... also Im obsessed with your camp half blood t shirt!
Again, I love you're SHIRT! Where the frig do you get them?
