Let's Do Some Insulating

  • The wall is stripped and it's time to insulate!!
    But before I can do that I need to figure out how I can get some insulation behind the electrical panel and OSB. I come up with a plan and it seems to have worked out OK. Then I finish insulating the rest of the wall.
    But insulation is not complete without vapor barrier. So I staple up some vapor barrier and then tape all the seams and prepare the vapor barrier bags around the outlet boxes with tape too.
    Now I'm ready for some sheathing, but that'll be in another video!!
    Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy the video. Please 'thumbs up' me and leave me some comments. And if you haven't done so already, please consider 'subscribing' to my channel. It sure helps my videos get noticed and my channel grow.
    I hope you all have a great week.
    We'll talk to yas ...

      How's she goin'? I think the shop is certainly going to be a lot more comfortable, especially in the cold of winter. Insulating is not a great activity to do or watch, but speeding it up made it kind of funny to look at eh! Take 'er easy!!!

      How's she goin'? Thanks Kevin. Some days in the winter it gets pretty cold, -25 or so. But I had the diesel fired space heater and that would warm it up pretty quick. Trouble is it made a lot of condensation, plus where the shop wasn't heated continually, the condensation would be really bad by times. With the heat pump and the insulation, it should make a world of difference. Thanks a lot for commenting. Take 'er easy!!

      How's she goin'? I checked into a lot of different types of insulation. I almost went with Styrofoam insulation, but in the end I decided to use rock wool. Glad I did too. No mess to cut and fit this stuff and it repels water and critters don't like it. I already notice a difference in the shop!! And the condensation problems that I have been dealing with in past winters should be put to bed too! Let's hope eh! Take 'er easy!!

    I can only imagine that it was probably a bigger job than one would even think getting all that done behind the electrical panel! I helped a friend with some rockwool...that is some pretty great stuff to work with...very forgiving! Looking some nice indeed!

      @GrampiesWorkshop  20 днів тому +1

      How's she goin'? Thanks Bruce. Getting the insulation behind the electrical panel was not easy. I tried to video it but, with the power off, it was just too dark and not a lot of room to maneuver either!! It turned out good though. I agree the rock wool is nice to work with. Not itchy, a little dusty but cuts nice and stays in the cavities pretty good too. Arrf Arr Otis. Take 'er easy!!

      How's she goin'? I accidently found out about the heavier vapor barrier. A long time ago, when I was building our house in town, I went to the lumber yard and wanted some vapor barrier. The buddy said all they had was 6mil. I didn't want to look like a rookie so I said, "I always use 6 mil poly" And when I got it home and started to install it I said to Janet, "Well I don't always use 6 mil but from now on I will!!" It sure does go up a lot easier than the thinner stuff. The 6 mil poly stuff kind of goes where you push it and stays there better too! Thanks for tuning in and take 'er easy!!

      How's she goin'? I hear ya Jack. Just so you know, things aren't cheap here in the Great White North either. This insulation was over $100 a bundle which covers 64 square feet. The sheathing was close to $30 a sheet. The vapor barrier was nearly $100. So the materials to do just this wall and 1/2 in the shop cost over $1000. I have been putting off doing this work since I built the shop almost 20 years ago and this year I finally decided I'll crack open the wallet and go for it!! LOL Thanks for commenting.
