    👨🏽‍🦲ABOUT ME
It's your man, Jeff Thornton, and I'm ready to take you on a journey through my life!
I was born on Holloman Air Force Base, NM, and raised in the beautiful city of Alamogordo, NM.
Growing up as the youngest of six kids, you'd think I'd have it easy, right?
    WRONG.
My siblings were always keeping me on my toes, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Family has always been my number one priority, and I owe that to my parents, Captain Robert and Dina Thornton, for instilling those values in me from a young age.
Now, let's talk about my love for sports.
From football to hockey, I've always been a natural athlete.
I was even the “Team Captain” for my high school football team, which I'm still proud of to this day.
But let's be real, sports are great and all, but nothing compares to the rush of being transported to a whole new world through video games.
When I was three years old, my sisters and I decided to be helpful and clean our brothers' Nintendo console.
Sounds like a good idea, right
    Well, we used WATER.
Needless to say, we destroyed the whole thing.
But that moment taught me something invaluable - gaming is more than just playing a game, it's about bonding with your loved ones over a shared experience.
Video games have been a constant throughout my life, bringing my family together and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
And that's why I'm still a gamer to this day.
It's not just about playing a character in a digital world, it's about the relationships and the community that gaming creates.
So, to all the gamers out there, let's embrace our inner nerd and never let go of that youthful spirit that makes us who we are.
Thanks for tuning in, and much love to you!
    - Jeff Thornton, Owner + CEO of QSN

5:47 : Oh the Italian clever move. Don't worry, you're not the only one who didn't understand it, the English player didn't either. The ruck is the "pile of players" on top of the ball carrier after a tackle. The defending team must be behind the feet of their players in the ruck, they're not allowed to just run forward and try to intercept until the ball has left the ruck. Normally, once you're tackled, your team piles on you to make sure nobody can steal the ball, the other teams piles on you to try to steal the ball, the ref declares "ruck" and so on, but Italy used a quirk in the rule that stated that a ruck required players from both side to be formed, so they tackled, English players piled up as they've been taught to, but there was nothing to defend against (look at 4:57, you see Italy's 8 doing the tackle, then no Italian player jump in, but England has a total of 6 players in that pile). By rule, this was not a ruck, as there were no Italian players in it, therefore, there was no offside line : Italian defenders were free to go setup behind the English pile.
To give an AF equivalent, it'll be like if a team suddenly found a loophole in the rules to setup their defense behind the offense. England got utterly confused for the first half, before their coach told them the one big flaw in the Italian plan : if you setup behind the center, it means you've got less people in front and your RB can just go wild, it's essentially what they did, they used pick and go, players just picking the ball of the ground and running forward, something that the Italian's clever move couldn't defend against, and dominated the rest of the match. Still, everybody remembers the time Italy showed the world both, the existence of the loophole, and why nobody bothered to use it before. It was fixed soon after, I'm pretty sure the ruck happens automatically after the tackle is done now.
6:57 : That was a 45m drop goal, so around 49 yards. Not the farthest drop goal ever made by far, even in recent memory, South Africa's François Steyn once scored a 60m (~66 yards) drop goal during a match in France's 1st division, but still an insanely impressive (and painful from a French point of view) kick from Ireland's former leader.
9:02 : The ref told him there was time, so he kicked into touch. They were 3 points behind, they could have taken the 3 to tie the game, but they went for touch, trying to get a try. The ref was wrong, he was told the time was up, and back then this kick in touch meant the match was over. This was changed, now in such a situation if you get a penalty and time is over, you can kick it into touch and keep playing.
10:09 : A Grand Slam means winning all your matches during the 6 Nations. Winning the tournament is nice, but Grand Slam are the only wins that really matter.
13:39 : No questions for that one, but I can't stop myself. For the context, this is the second-biggest loss in English rugby history, the biggest loss in English rugby history at home, the biggest gap in a France - England match (3 points off being the biggest amount of points scored by one side during a France - England match, England's 55 - 35 win still keeps that title) and, as far as my French heart is concerned, the single most enjoyable match in rugby history. Fans left the stadium with 10min to go, the sideline French commentator was shocked and unable to remember a single time this had happened in this stadium before while another commentator was, jokingly, asking if it was possible to close the arena's door to make sure the English fans "enjoyed" the party to the end. The best way to summarize this match in one sentence comes from The Guardian : "Talk about a guillotine falling with brutal finality".

This next Six Nations should be very interesting. The Italy vs Wales time out controversy was that time was up on the clock but the referee told wales they had ten seconds left. Only after they had kicked the ball into touch for the line out did the TMO come in and say time was up.

As others have eluded to, Wales and England don't really get many highlights in this package. It's funny, because Andrew Forde is Welsh and tends to give Wales more of its dues than other compilation channels, who like to pretend we don't exist.
For Wales, having won 4 Grand Slams and 2 further Championships, we are the joint most successful team since it became the 6N in 2000. But we do blow hot and cold (2007: finishes 5th and gets knocked out of the World Cup in the group stages later that year followed by a Grand Slam in 2008).
Andrew Forde does have a 33min video dedicated to Welsh rugby with highlights as far back as the winning try against New Zealand in 1953 (the last time we beat them). Lots of highlights from the 1970s which is considered the golden age of Welsh rugby (2nd out of 3 golden ages, i would argue, the others being 1900-1911 and 2008-19), but plenty more from other eras.
If i could pick 4 positive moments (25 from 6 teams ~4) from Wales Six Nations it would be:
-Gavin Henson tackles on Matthew Tait. 2005 v England. Maybe Henson's overall performance in that game (he set up Wales' try and scored the winning kick and was generally excellent)
    - Welsh pack shunts France off their own scrum, 5m from Wales' try line, in a Grand Slam decider. 2008 v France
    - Shane Williams scores winning try in 81st minute after being 10 points down on 73 minutes. 2010 v Scotland
    - Alex Cuthbert 2nd try to secure title. 2013 v England

I’ll try explain the Italy one as best I can. Essentially when the law was like that, once a ruck was formed (both an attacking and defending player were contesting over the ball) an offside line was created at the tackled players back foot (basically the guy that had been tackled, he presents the ball back to his team and whichever body part is furthest from the ball/closest to the defensive side is where the offside line is created, inline with that body part which is normally the foot if they’re in a long present position), that prevents the defending team from advancing past that offside line until the attacking team plays the ball as they would be penalised for being offside. In this case, Italy did not compete in the ruck, which meant no offside line was created and that’s why they could stand past the ruck and block passes/just get in the way. Since that happened the law has changed to now state a ruck is formed when one player is involved in a ruck, so now to prevent this from happening the attacking team just needs to put one player over the ball and then officially a ruck is formed, which would normally occur anyway to prevent a jackal. Hope that makes sense !

@@alexbarclay9615 I am an English fan so might make my point invalid, but surely allowing that loophole makes the game much less exciting? Teams would resort to pick and go’s, wouldn’t be able to pass wide because of opposition just getting in the way of passes and the game would just become less of an open free flowing experience? I’m not complaining about Italy making the most of it they absolutely can and did, but more just also agree with the law being changed after that

The dodgy Welsh line out at @15:30 ish is like this (pretty sure...) The line out happens when the ball goes (in)to touch which is 'out of bounds' I guess for AF. It can be executed quickly if the original ball is solely handled by players before it is thrown; no spectators, no ball-boys, no touchline official, no press etc. In reality this also means no opposition as they will hold on to it to ensure their teamates have assembled - are defensive. So it only really happens when a player, typically wing or fullback, catches a long punt. Then the ball can thrown it back in before opposition players arrive. It is quite common. The throw still needs to clear the line parallel to touch for min-throw length and can't be forward.

5:08 clearly shows no9 England was about to pass, but an Italian player was waiting there to intercept the pass.
If a ruck has been established, only "onside" Italian players are allowed to tackle no9 or intercept
"Onside" here means, Italian players that are behind the ball or "ruck line".
"Ruck line" divides 2 half of the playing pitch at that moment in time.
In other words, any Italian players in the England side of the "ruck line" are considered in the "offside" position & are not allowed to be involve in that particular play.
In this case, no ruck were established bcoz NO Italian player was engaged in that ruck that England was trying to create. U can see in that pile of bodies, there were NO Italian player... so, there were NO ruck.
Since no ruck was formed, the Italian player that u see trying to intercept the ball is actually ONSIDE.

17:25 The two main codes of rugby are league and union. Union is the most widely played and it's what you're watching in this video. League is popular in Australia and the north of England.
The biggest difference is that in League play stops when a tackle is completed, and possession changes after a certain number of completed tackles (not unlike "downs" in American Football).
Rucks are unique to Union as far as I'm aware. I'm not a League guy, it's not really a thing in Ireland.
"Aussie rules" (Australian Football) is a completely different sport. Except for the shape of the ball and the tackling, it plays more like Gaelic football than rugby (in fact GAA players are often recruited to AFL teams and there are occasional exhibition matches between Australian AFL players and Irish GAA players where they use a combined ruleset. It's pretty cool)

So the ruck is formed when the ball carrier is tackled to the ground, the ball carrier and the tackler release and the ball can now be contested on the floor. When the ruck is formed it forms an offside line that the defending team cannot cross. Because the defending team (Italy) did not compete for the ball it is not a ruck, therefore no offside. Therefore Italy could advance beyond the offside line that did not exist.

That italy loss st the start from a wales perspective was scandalous. About 5-10 mins before ange capuzzo scored that wonder try, wales had an obvious try disallowed by the referee andrew brace. If that try had stood then we would have narrowly beaten italy, still an embarrassing state of affairs for wales fans but the only reason those italy players won and were all crying like they had just won the cup was because the referee was clearly incompetent. Italy were shit that game and were incredibly lucky to win. Don't get me wrong wales were really shit back then too but we still should have won that game. Just to show that i am not just a biased wales fan, we lost to georgia the following year which actually was really embarrassing. I can't blame the ref or the officials for that loss, georgia got us fair and square and georgia are arguably a worse team than italy so its not like i wont give worse teams credits when they deserve it.

    • @QSNgg
      @QSNgg  3 місяці тому +1
