I use beautiful and interesting and collectible handmade cigar boxes from my local Persian cigar merchant. The divisions in the Galen are frankly just tres ordinaire generic cigar box dividers. My far superior (I Believe) hand-mage cigar division inserts are lined in sanguine-red softest cotton velvet...... Mr. F. (The merchant) Keeps the nicest ones in the back for me when I stop by to chat to Mrs. P..... free, exquisite some of them, especially the (black mkt.) Cuban Havana boxes..... beautiful when stacked up in all their eccentricity. Take care, miss Jenny
Looks like a great storage /display box. I made one from an old cigar box, also two levels that hold a total of eight pens and five sample ink vials. I can live with the tiny variables that come with made by hand products. Believe me if I had seen this box first I would have been very tempted not to mess with the cigar box ! I enjoy your channel, thank you.
Nice! I want one, but that Conid bulkfiller was the star for me. I like that Galen is increasing the dimensions for the fit issues you've brought up. Thank you for your informative videos, David.
I absolutely love this idea by Galen Leather. When I am out of student accommodation and have a more stable place house to myself then I might get these, at the moment I hide them away safely. :)
Galen has now restocked all of the trays. The only thing out of stock right now is the pen tray liners. I already have one of the deep ink storage trays . I just ordered 1 empty tray. 1 tray with the pen liner without the lid and 1 tray with the pen liner and the clear lid. The one on top will be the pens that I’m currently using.
Thanks for the review - look forward to their revised version with slightly larger dimensions. The price was much lower than I expected - I purchased an NFP Design Covered Pen Tray from Galen last year (appears to no longer be available, but it is a wooden case with a hinged top that holds 11 pens) and the price was $119.
Thanks, Dave. I just re-viewed this review (sorry for the alliteration) and have another suggestion that might be an improvement for some folks. If they would craft a bit of a "divot" or indentation at the end of each tray and box for the fingertips. My intent is to make it easy for the fingertips to separate and lift one or several trays off of the lower ones. I hope they do make them a bit deeper. Most of my pens and inks will fit, but quite a few won't I have a LOT of Noodler's and some Robert Oster inks as well as a couple of girthier pens. As you said, I wouldn't even begin to expect to store any Akkerman bottles in these so I won't fault them for that! Btw: Galen Leather is an awesome company to work with.
I have not one, but TWO plastic bins from dollar tree, and a castoff kitchen cabinet that my mom bought at hobby lobby on sale, only to learn it’s too narrow for her purpose and unreturnable. 🥳
Somehow I think this was a good excuse for you to show off some of your beautiful pens! 😄 still, an interesting product that I hope they carry for years so I will have a display-worthy collection.
Nice idea, but they need a clasp system to keep lids affixed to the box. If they are only held down by gravity, they risk toppling and separating, which could be expensive. Also pass along the feedback that the underside of the box lids need to have padding to keep the pens from shifting if the tray is moved abruptly. Very promising beginnings, but simple refinements can make these really handy.
These looking great. Haven't saw them before. But they would be very usefull for me. And many others. :) The idea for these modular storage is really good. And the only way they could get better, it seems, would be with no plastic tray. But to be honest, this would be more expensive. These looks really good. Thanks for showing us these. I have to keep an eye out for this in the new year.
David. Thank you for this detailed review. Very well done. The price seems ok I guess. With an amazing bottle design that allows for efficient usage of the ink stored inside it, I’m a little surprised you didn’t give Galen the Ackerman ink bottle dimension to accommodate. It’s 11cm tall, but aesthetically the Galen ink tray could easily be made to handle it as the tray already has the appearance of a basic container, as opposed to the pen trays, which would still maintain their sleeker design by contrast, even in expanding them a bit.
Thanks for showing us this. I'm not really interested in pen or ink storage that stacks, because the items on a lower level are not easily accessible, and because it isn't practical to stack anything on top. Both of these are of concern to me because I like to keep my pens in easy reach and I don't have a lot of space on or near my desk. I'm much more interested in those little drawers in the background, I'd love to be able to buy some like that.
I have two different pen storage videos. I am not certain if I feature that unit in both, or in just the most recent one. But you can check those out to to find out more info about it.
Thank you for such a thorough review! These look so interesting--can you stack just the ink boxes? I would probably need more than a few...I've yet to see an ink storage system that can handle a realistic amount of ink bottles (maybe a china cabinet or something haha!)
Nice and the price is right for the quality and look. Thanks for your replies that answered my questions re: upcoming improvements and the ability to stack the ink modules. Most interested in the “cube array.” A memorial to the very sad Arecibo Telescope crash?
Very helpful review! I have a lot of Robert Oster bottles so it will be great if they increase their height. Galen Leather have so many wonderful looking things that I covet, haha! Nice pen trays too. 💜
I think I almost heard "Robert Oyster" at some point. ^^ Joke aside, this is a very useful review. I'm currently questionning myself about efficient storage for my ink/pen stuffs. These boxes may become a solution for my (slowly but constantly expanding) collection. I guess I'll wait for next iterations, considering your relevant remarks. Thanks again for this interesting review !
I ordered 4 notebooks from Galen a while ago. They sent me only 1 notebook along with some tea and coffee. I tried getting in touch with them, but after an initial response, they’ve been actively ignoring me
Those get automatically inserted by UA-cam. I typically don't pay too much attention to it, but I took a look at it and agree with you...three is too much for this length of video. I removed one.
So my take away is that there are some fatal design flaws that could have been easily avoided. Unless they will replace the items for those who already bought them, it's too little too late. I love the Galen story, but their products don't hit the mark for me, especially at the price points.
I am really fascinated to know what pen storage solution you have found that comes anywhere close to matching this price. Outside of DIY projects, this is WILDLY more affordable than anything I have been able to find (which is why my current pen storage system is a mess).
While it's not perfect...I would categorize it as holding the vast majority of ink and pens. They are making improvements for it to accommodate additional brands of ink and sizes of pens, which will be nice.
I love that it comes with tea... I bet it adds an aromatic character to the unboxing

Oo, that does look gorgeous! Thanks for the review, David!
That’s awesome that they’re planning to increase the ink box size, based upon customer/reviewer feedback. Great review as always, David!
Yes...Galen has said the ink box will be increased by 5mm, and the trays will be increased 3mm.
Yes. Thank you for saving me from ordering something that won't fit Noodler's

Haha good timing for this review...just ordered 6 of these in various sizes and cover yesterday. Can't wait for them to ship

You have actually inspired me to make my own! Good winter project. 😁

An attractive and practical solution.

Again love your reviews and evaluation.

Really intrigued by this. Thanks for the in depth review David!
Thanks for watching!

Thank you, David, for this very useful review! I had my eye on this system, but was curious about the aspects you mentioned.
Extra planning on Galen L's part and they could have avoided the sizing issues easily. I would have just ordered a few sets and given them as gifts.

Yes. The ink trays on their own would stack nicely.
Nice and the price is right for the quality and look. Thanks for your replies that answered my questions re: upcoming improvements and the ability to stack the ink modules. Most interested in the “cube array.” A memorial to the very sad Arecibo Telescope crash?
Excellent review - thank you!
Looks lovely! I don't have enough pens to justify this and have too much ink for this to work (would need two or three ink boxes), but it looks great!
Good review as always - Thanks David. Guess the real question is would you buy one with your own money. Looking forward to the next pen review.
Very helpful review! I have a lot of Robert Oster bottles so it will be great if they increase their height. Galen Leather have so many wonderful looking things that I covet, haha! Nice pen trays too. 💜
Galen=amazing. Thanks Figboot!

Hi saw this comment by chance, seems jumped to spm /junk boxes. Can you send us the details via the contact page or a direct email to contact@ email?
Pushin it with the ads their fig

Dear friends, does anyone know where you can get the single gray template where the fountain pens are placed?
the executive pens only fit on the top shelf
This is an awesome piece! I am soooooo tempted! Thanks for the review.
Could you stack two ink boxes? Or are just the trays stackable?
Yes. The trays are stackable by themselves.
So, they designed storage for pen and ink that doesn't fit pen and ink. Take my money!
While it's not perfect...I would categorize it as holding the vast majority of ink and pens. They are making improvements for it to accommodate additional brands of ink and sizes of pens, which will be nice.
Nice but too much expensive I think...
👌👌😍😍
This is exactly what I need!
If it don't fit a visconti common pen, don't advertise a shite case like this please. It declares war on pen lovers ffs
