I neglected to mention it, but I also store a large number of pens in these inexpensive 48-pen zipper cases: www.amazon.com/Fountain-Roller-Holder-Leather-Color/dp/B06XPBDLVS/ref=asc_df_B06XPBDLVS/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=223383818119&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1611077798780809904&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9009674&hvtargid=pla-571112262912&psc=1

You have the two dressers from Ikea that you took the wheels off. You said you were running out of space - you have the drawer with note books that could be used and the notebooks moved, maybe to the top drawer of the first two drawer you showed us.

That was great fun to see -- thanks for sharing! I have an unusual storage system for some (not all) of my pens. I keep them in 6-pen rolls from Rickshaw, which I leave flat and stack in a drawer. Most people would not prefer this because you can only see the tops of the pens, but I know what's where, and the pen rolls keep them secure. I have a few 12-pen rolls that I fold in half for the brands of pens I have more of, and a shorter roll for pocket pens. This method dramatically increases the capacity of the drawer. I have 12 pen rolls in one drawer (total capacity 84) plus a 12-pen Penvelope from Franklin-Christoph for my Sailors. This system is space-efficient and colorful. It wasn't an intentional choice at the beginning; I just started accumulating pretty pen rolls. 😏

I have the Ikea Alex and all of my inks are grouped by manufacturer. I purchased the bamboo silverware tray and it fits perfectly inside but you can use any pretty cardboard box lids to create more structure and stop things sliding around. Having my inks grouped and lined up is very pleasing and I also add stickers to the top swatching the color.

Good timing with this video - I’ve just started looking at pen storage and given I enjoy working with leather I’m looking for ideas of things to make. I actually made my first pen storage two days ago - kangaroo leather outer, suede lined single pen roll. All these storage options give me ideas though.

Very nice tour of your storage. I am more pedestrian. I use cigar cases that are lined with velvet from Gurhka, pen portfolios that hold 48 pens, each and a storage box that hold my pen cases and supplies like nibs, pen sleeves, syringes, eye droppers and silicone grease.

Thank you for sharing this with us, picked up some great ideas that I'll be checking out (especially the Ikea ink storage, as I'm having difficulty fitting some of my bottles in what I use now). A quick tip for folks looking for some available, inexpensive (usually), and to my mind good looking storage - I use an old wooden cutlery holder / canteen (rosewood in my case), depending on the inserts you can fit most small to medium size pens for sure, and some of the slots / trays will take larger, only cost me around $20 at a flea market.

In my bedroom, I have a chest of drawers, which pulls out to become a dressing table. Ignoring the fold up mirror, it makes a great writing desk/pen workbench. I have a somewhat more conservative ink collection than you, so it doesn't take up space, and I keep most of my pocket pens in small side drawers, and larger pens in a series of 6-pen pouches, though I'm forever reorganising them. Most space is taken up by tools, spares, cartridges, nibs etc. And I manage, just about. But I'm thinking of evicting some clothes from the cabinet to make more pen space. 😄

That's a lot of pens. I only have about 75 pens and about 20 bottles of ink. Pens I'm likely to use are stuck in a thingamajig I rigged up from 6 cardboard tubes and some tape, which sits on my drawing table. Everything visible and instantly available. The pens I don't use are in a little cardboard box on the shelf. And I have another little cardboard box in which 20 square Noodler's bottles nest together nicely. I do have other brands, but decant them into Noodler's bottles for convenient storage. All this works for me because I am indifferent to likely surface damage caused by pens clanking together. And quantitatively my needs are fulfilled with

I find it surprising that you’re the only one who made a comment about the cost of such a collection. Others had to have thought the same thing.
I wondered to myself how one could afford such a collection; going with the Occam’s Razor philosophy I hypothesize that David has a really good paying job combined with the fact he probably gets to keep a lot of the pens he reviews or gets them at a very steep discount. I do believe David has integrity so I don’t think it’s a quid pro quo situation; good review for a free pen/huge discount. However, I don’t believe he has addressed the subject so one can only guess.
However, if you want to look at the situation deeper. Let’s take a look at we know about David shall we… he is from San Diego, he has golfed on some of the finest golf courses in the world, enjoys Rubik’s cubes, loves Fred Rogers red ink, is a master at slight of hand, has tangoed with the A.T.F. and finally travels abroad and to “pen shows”.
Option 1: He comes from extreme wealth and it could be a trust fund situation.
San Diego is an extremely affluent area especially La Jolla.
Golfing those courses is very expensive and he has a lot of shirts if you catch my drift.
He had access to the finest education which cultivated an interest in puzzles and the finer things in life such as magic, premium entertainment (Mr. Rogers, Alfred Hitchcock etc.) and travel.
As a wealthier person he rubs shoulders with a lot of politicians and had issues with a government contract for the A.T.F.
Option 2: “David” is a hitman (a good one though like John Wick who doesn’t intentionally target innocent people) who gets paid a lot of money. After serving overseas on a special mission he was sent to a military prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He promptly escaped from his maximum security stockade to the North Carolina underground and has been hiding in plain sight ever since. No one will suspect a fountain pen enthusiast.
Southern California is major military hub for which he trained as a military sniper at the naval base in San Diego.
Golfing is a precision sport. A skill that he has in spades. Which is further confirmed by his job as a data analyst.
Rubik’s cubes and magic require high intelligence as well as very dexterous eye-hand coordination.
Traveling is something he must do for “work”.
The A.T.F. has been trying to catch him for a long time. By his own admission they couldn’t catch him at his “old job”.
And we finally come to the smoking gun, Fred Rogers Cardigan Red. I mean c’mon, David says this is one of his favorite inks. Everyone knows Fred Rogers was a sniper and the color “Cardigan Red” seems very similar to the color of… well, you get the point.
Like a Hitchcock film, people are not always as they seem so you make the call.
