Great video. I watched this and then followed exactly on the same machine. Knowing what to do was a tremendous help. Got the job done in two hours. Probably could have done it quicker but you know, looking for tools. Thanks very much !!!!! By the way, there is a sticker on the gas tank that says, use Ethanol 10%. I called the dealer where I bought the machine and spoke with someone in the service department. He said use premium fuel with no ethanol. Thanks again.

I’ve been repairing all sorts of small engines from chainsaws to riding mowers. The issue is the use of regular ethanol fuel. You must use premium fuel with no ethanol. I can speak from experience that good gas equals basically no issues with running motors. The centre jet needs to be removed and all of the tiny orfices will need to be cleaned. I use a cutting torch tip cleaner. Then spray with a good carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air. Reassemble and your stalling issues will be solved.

Great video. I have the 24 Compact so close enough. Looks like the same carb or very similar. I was not getting fuel to the cylinder so I tore it down per these instructions and cleaned it. Popped it back in and it started right up! Runs great now. After that snowfall we had yesterday around Chicago it was needed as our smaller electric snow blower could not handle the heavy wet slush snow.

Former small engine mechanic here, don't completely drain the tank, leave a little bit of fluid to sit at the fuel tank shutoff valve because I've had to replace these valves because the gasket in the shutoff valve leaks all over the floor if the gasket completely dries out in the off season...the shut off switch is just a cheap piece of Chinese made junk, I can't help but be forced to recommend maybe even a squirt of stabilized 2 cycle oil go into the shutoff valve to keep the valve gasket moist during the off season but I don't really have any easy methods of getting that in there, it's easier to just leave a trace of gas in the tank over the summer with the switch in the off position and hope for the best. Your fresh fuel in the next winter will dilute out the old gas, and besides the old gas will still probably run good if you used stabil in it last year. Also, for winterizing you can drain the carburetor by removing that little drain plug, that way you don't have to disassemble any covers, because you can access the carb drain plug with everything still put together. And of course never use ethanol based fuels or it will crud up your carb.

It is the Ethanol in the fuel that causes the corrosion and gunk in the carburetor. When setting usually during the off season, the Ethanol absorbs moisture, and this is what causes all the problems. It is best to use non-Ethanol fuel if possible. If it is not available in your area, then always empty the float bowl using the drain bolt in the bottom of the carburetor when it comes time for storage. I also use Sea Foam in all my outdoor power equipment fuel. The stuff has been around for years and helps keep carburetors clean and running smoothly. It also works as a fuel stabilizer during the off season. But it will not stabilize fuel much more than six or seven months. It is a pain to disassemble the snow blower to get the carburetor off and clean it. So, it is best to make sure the float blow is empty of fuel during storage or any prolonged times of none use. Very informative video. Thanks for sharing.

Ethanol fuel is to blame for the junk in the carb. Snowblowers do not have air filters because powdered snow will freeze onto the air filter pleats or foam emlement and plug it up! Snow is pretty dust free so they don’t need an air filter, unlike a leaf blower that is injesting all the dirt it’s kicking up.

Pilot jets still blocked, take throttle adjustment screw out on the carb. Count your turns out the screw is plastic. Pull the pilot jet out because it right below the throttle screw, take a fine needle and poke the hole out on the bottom. Then take the needle and poke out the 3 holes in the ventura thats closest to the motor. Should pull the main jet out also. Then take carb cleaner and clean the ventura out on the intake side. Should fix you right up

My D28 SHO runs well with good power, but the engine surges at most RPMs. I've used Seafoam every season but leave the fuel topped off to prevent humidity in the tank. Is the surging the result of clogged pilot jet or main jet being clogged. Is there a way to clean that without taking the carb apart?

    • @allenwolfe8196
      @allenwolfe8196 Рік тому +1

@Prem Rajendran pilot jet is located below the idle screw on most new carbs. Take the idle screw out, and you can pull the idle jet out. Takes a very small needle to poke it out. That can sometimes fix it and it sounds like it could fix your problem. You can do that with the carb on.

Kind of shocked since I first saw your Ariens review about two years ago when you mentioned it was new. I am listening to you now as I type this, but I wanted to mention my Ariens Compact two stage snow blower is now ten years old and so far so good. As a rule, I also put stableliser in my gas can for both lawn mower & snow blower while I use them every season. At the end of the season, for both lawn mower & snow blower, I always run the units completely out of gas before putting in storage. Before the snow season starts, I always change the oil and spark plug, along with other maintainance like greasing all moving parts. I usually do this late October for my snow blower, add a bit of stablized gas and run a bit and turn gas valve off until engine stops and every couple weeks, I do the same thing to run a bit, which I just did about a week ago and I should be good for the upcoming snow this coming New Years Day here in Milwaukee, WI. Just wanted to let you know what I do every year for my ten year old Ariens Compact snow blower. I don't like to mess with changing belts, but I had dealership change both belts out three years ago. Only a suggestion, but you may want to let gas run out at the end of the season and put fresh gas in the beginning of the snow season?
    Happy New Year!

@@KyleHallwoodworker , NO Problem. As Gary G. mentioned and I agree with him to use Seaform to gas to clean carb. I use this along with Sta-Bil stablizer at the end of the season before running gas tank dry and I usually add a bit of SeaForm with fresh Sta-Bil stabized gas at the beginning of the season, which is supposed to clean carb as well. I started my Ariens yesterday just to make sure, but I knew it would start. Milwaukee is supposed to get 5-9 inches of snow tonight and end by 6am, which means I will be snow blowing by tomorrow morning.
      Have a Good One!

I run 91 octane in my Ariens 27 10.5 hp Briggs Engine. The 87 octane has corn oil in it and is no good for small engine. After I use the snowblower I shut the gas off and let the carb run out of fuel. Every time It gets run empty. End of season after service I hand suction all the fuel out of the tank I can and again run the engine until the engine shuts down. In 10 years I have never serviced the carb. Belts and drive friction disk is all I ever touched. Works for me guys with minimal effort.

I think the stall at the end is because you didn't take the carb nozzle out and clean it.
That's a tiny brass piece at the middle of your carb near floater, usually using flat to open it up and there are very tiny holes on it should be cleaned by tiny nozzle cleaners.

Gotta at least clean the main jet with carb-cleaner and/or wire and sometimes drill out the main to allow a richer blend. My ariens will run great for about 15 minutes then dies, then runs intermittently. Bit the first 15 minutes or it’s fine. Thought?

I'm having the same exact issue with my Deluxe 28". First it wouldn't start, so I took off the carb and cleaned it thoroughly. Even took out the jets and cleaned those, now it's sparkling. After putting it back together, it would start right up, but will surge like crazy if I try to turn off the choke, even just one click, let alone turning the throttle down or turning the choke fully off....then it just wants to stall out. Looking forward to seeing other comments on this or if you're able to fix it too!

Watch this video, almost all carbs the same and he really gives good tips on how to fix and set up the carb and get the unit running. ua-cam.com/video/FQEx-JjDyVU/v-deo.html
