Excellent repair of a nice looking snow blower. Great advice on removing the emulsion tube. I had not seen that technique before so that gives me another option. Great job. Thanks for the videos.
This worked for me. Wasn’t running despite cranking with the start motor. After this little trick it fired right up. Taking the wheel off made it super easy. MTD GOLD 420cc
Poulan 271 8HP Snow Blower, thanks DW6, that is what I experienced yesterday and knew where the problem was, with the "main fuel jet"/ emulsion tube. The video helped me to remove & clean the jet without any removal of all the tin shrouds. Even though I received my automotive mechanic's license in 1973, followed by heavy duty and millwright tickets, You Tube clips like this beats spending hours going through manuals. Best tip, tipping the machine & removing one wheel. I have also installed a throttle cable, to control the engine speed under load. It's not perfect, but it gives control if the governor doesn't react quick enough or at all sometimes.
Awesome tip. I tried it on my older Troy-bilt 2410 and it worked perfectly. In my case, the main jet was clogged. I cleaned it and it started right up. Thank you so much for the video.
That’s pretty slick taking the tire off to get to the carb. I have a craftsman snow I bought in 1994. Still runs like a top. Never had the carb off. I don’t have to use it every year and I always run the gas out, if I do use it. Glad I found you UA-cam page to watch your videos.
had the same issue, your tip got her going ezpz, managed to do it without removing the tire too! thanks for the help, saved me a trip to the shop & some $$
Last winter I discovered I couldn't start my Cub Cadet snow blower (I had drained the gas from it at the end of the previous season but didn't run the mower until the gas was gone). I gave your approach a try and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the great idea!
I have to thank you for this video. I have the same blower I bought last summer. Only used once the winter before. The tank hadn't been drained properly so the darn thing wouldn't start. AFter watching you, I followed your instructions and got it running, thankfully because we just had a foot of snow. I did one thing wrong when inserting the emulsion tube tho. I put it in with the larger end first. Darn this runs tho, but I'll reinstall it with the narrow end first. Thanks again.
One thing seldom mentioned in these no start condition videos, is corrosion on the flywheel and magneto, usually caused when a piece of equipment is stored in an unheated garage or shed. cold temps and metal usually means condensation which causes rust. Remove the cover surrounding the pull start and look at the flywheel and the mating surface on the magneto if you see rust sand those two surfaces, sand them with sandpaper until the rust which prevents spark is removed and they the surfaces are shiny. You should now have spark at the sparkplug.
my troy-bilt blower would only run well when partially choked, and that was from when i first bought it. i finally pulled the emulsion tube and found a small piece of plastic on the outside of the tube. put it back together and it has run great ever since. so this fix is definitely worth trying if your engine surges (hunts) too
I like the fix. Did you mention when inverting a snow blower you run the risk of gas leaking out? Big safety issue. And oil coming out the muffler and or fluid locking the cylinder? If they don't understand that they could hurt themselves when pull starting or damage the starter and possibly damage the connecting rod.
My TB 2410 wouldn't start at all...this tip worked great and got me up and running. Later I I did have to pull the the cover and slide carb out to clean the pilot valve to keep from surging. Now it runs like new.
Video helped understand that some troubleshooting can be done but wasn’t clear how you tilt the blower? Did you have to drain the gas? Is there any caution to use when tilting? Other than that you made it seem it like an easy job 👍🏼. I have exact same blower. Won’t start and saw no spark on spark plug. Could you give any tip.
I never thought of using a wooden q-tip to remove the emulsion tube. I don't have those, but now I have a good reason to save my chopsticks hahahahahaha
I like those quiet series engines! Nice simple fix Bob! I sometimes do the same thing on the tailgate of my truck without having to unload it! Nice work!
I always enjoy your videos Doublewide 6 !! Not a big fan of snowblowers since we never have use for them here but learning from you more about small engine repair is a great plus!!
I’ve seen where people remove the main jet and clean it not realizing there is a removable emulsion tube to clean as well. Most times you have to push the emulsion tube out from the Venturi while the jet usually just falls out when unscrewed,
hi , my cub cadet was running rough, once i finished the last path it slowly sputtered and backfired. Now it won't start? I have been told seafoam might help? what is your thoughts knowing you haven't seen the machine , it is only 3 years old and i have changed the oil yearly new gas each season. Thanks for any thoughts
If you use Seafoam to treat the gas in all your small engines, you won't need to do this procedure. It will keep your carbs clean and treat the fuel as a stabilizer during ling term storage.
With a Sears snow blower brand new 26'2nd time using used stabilizer fresh gas wouldnt start, it is ridicilous that a 800$ machine should not be doing this brand new ,👍 thank you for your how to, saved me many hours of ripping the carb and all that down . After spraying starter fluid in the spark plug hole, it still would not work could only be that pin is clogged, is it just a bad design , mainly the ethanol they added in to the gas. No other machine i have does this.
Well well, another LCT engine. JUNK . There becoming more and more common motors on power equipment. Just cleaned a carb on one last week. It was on a cub cadet chipper shredder vacuum.
The long part that goes back into the carb falls out so quick I didn't see which end goes in first on re-assembly and you didn't show that. FAIL on your end.

You saved me a tremendous amount of time and frustration. Thank you, brother. Very much appreciated!

Wow. My mechanical knack is a 1 on a scale of 100 and this actually worked for me. Great video. Bring on the snow!
I have the exact snow blower. Thank you for putting this quick video together. You will save me time and $ so that I can do it myself.

Double wide!!!! Thank you !!! I did this on my 6hp Troy....worked fabulous!!!!Thanks again.
Glad it helped
@@doublewide6 absolutely 💯 thanks again
Mine is a 6hp Troy....

Learn something everyday! Thanks. Enjoyed. You are a good technical person!

Nice easy repair Bob. Thanks for sharing!!
At least it was easy to get to, good job Bob. thanks for the video brother.
John you could've used a snowblower like that for that big storm you had this winter! LOL. 👍❄🌨
🤣🤣 That’s for sure Roger, I was snowed-in for 2 days because I didn’t have one of these beast!! 👍🏼🤣
Great tips there. I never thought of the wire for the Tecumseh needle to clean the emulsion tube on the carb.
I never thought of using a wooden q-tip to remove the emulsion tube. I don't have those, but now I have a good reason to save my chopsticks hahahahahaha
1:03 whatcha using to remove the emulsion tube before the little wire? Just a flathead or..
Thanks, this worked for me, the emulsion tube was completely clogged
Great job as usual dw6 👍 same thing happens to my Honda hs1132 from time to time, but it's a quick fix.. thanks for sharing 🍻👍
I like those quiet series engines! Nice simple fix Bob! I sometimes do the same thing on the tailgate of my truck without having to unload it! Nice work!
Excellent video and simple to do. Let's hope this is the problem solver for me.
Good alternative method to removing entire carburetor. Probably a Huayi carb if it is a newer snowblower.
But is it though
Worked for me!!! Appreciated for sharing this!!!!
Yes this was a what I needed!! Thank You great video!!
Is the ignition timing on a snow thrower adjustable ? My machine is backfiring and wont run more than 10 seconds. All the usual checks have been done.
I always enjoy your videos Doublewide 6 !! Not a big fan of snowblowers since we never have use for them here but learning from you more about small engine repair is a great plus!!
This video got me out of a jam today. Great job much easier then the 30 minute videos that are out there
Nice work!
All I had to do was take the plugged jet out and clean it. I added some Stabil about a month ago and got it started today.
Nice video. Do you have to drain the gas before doing this, or by laying it on the side it wont leak out? Thanks
awesome video
Good Job !
How did you get the emotion tube out? I didn't see a groove for a screwdriver?...
unusual to see emulsion tube clogged but not the main jet.
I’ve seen where people remove the main jet and clean it not realizing there is a removable emulsion tube to clean as well. Most times you have to push the emulsion tube out from the Venturi while the jet usually just falls out when unscrewed,
I don't think i've ever seen a clogged emulsion tube, since the main jet blocks all of the crap from getting to the emulsion tube in the first place
Will this fix also help eliminate having to run it on partial choke? Didn’t have to last year, ran like a champ then.
Good video

I have been told seafoam might help? what is your thoughts knowing you haven't seen the machine , it is only 3 years old and i have changed the oil yearly new gas each season. Thanks for any thoughts
Did you have to take the fuel out to put it in the vertical position? Or to take the jet out?
👍🤜 thank you my friend😊
If you use Seafoam to treat the gas in all your small engines, you won't need to do this procedure. It will keep your carbs clean and treat the fuel as a stabilizer during ling term storage.

Those carbs are not fun to remove. Good video
My blower is doing the same thing, I cleaned the carb too but it’s still not running. What should I do next?
Thank you
what year is that snow thrower? I just bought the same one and not sure how old it is
why not just use carb cleaning fluid? Just faster to scrape it?
Nice
I saw the dirt on the end of the wire when you pushed it through you missed it Bob
