I remember when I first watched this scene it reminded me of all my early fights. It's only later that truly good Fighters discover that if you can't TAKE a beating then you can't GIVE a beating.
That's equal to about 550 dollars per month as of right now in mid 2023. Yet that same place probably goes for 750-900 dollars per month these days. Them were da days, up until the 2008-09 crash. Yearn for them like mad, like a junkie does his crack cocaine.
It's truly a shame Mickey didn't receive an Oscar for his performance in this, he's beyond raw and riveting in his realistic depiction of what a skidrow alcoholic man must have done daily in his struggle to survive, but more than anything? Having a scotch and water. ❤❤❤❤
Shame Frankie Stallone couldn’t belt out “This is the End”, his one and only hit as he was laying on the concrete. This fight made Mickey Roarke the boxer he always wanted to be. Later on, he watched Faye Dunaway and Alice Krige cat fight, and that really got his juices flowing.
@badsign1980 Mickey weighed less than he did here as a boxer. He dropped a lot of useless weight (about 40 pounds) and added useful weight (about 15 pounds). Why would a man box at 15? The same reason a man would box at age 40. He realized he wanted to.
Matt Dillon did it better.that was a fantastic movie.this is ok .but Matt telling dad he wants ass.and the way he went from job to job .it was just a movie with more going on.just my opinion .
Frank Stallone as EDDIE did a superb job!
Or so the Germans would have us believe.
Early expendable types bartenders and their customers.

There's some truth to that. If you've never lost a fight, you haven't been in one.
Why take the beating of your good enough to out maneuver your opponent interesting point though like bad santa
Mickey shoulda been nominated for an Oscar for this part.
he's not acting. This is him
He was. But didn't win. If I recall correctly

"Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must live." The movie is full of little nuggets like this.
Sounds like something Hunter S Thompson would say. Straight out of Fear and Loathing.
