Look foward to those vidoes Brock. I've been on the fence between Archi cad and Sketchup. Although SU is not a traditional bim software. Plugins such as yours, medeek, and Plus spec makes SU a value contender ad the fraction of the cost of Revit and Archi cad. Thank you for providing these vidoes. God speed.

Thank you! I have long thought about Archicad because I love their BIMx viewer and how you can transition from 2D to 3D, BUT expensive and yes, I have developed stuff like Framer and Estimator and tailored it to what works for us.

With Sketchup the objects do not contain any information and it's not a true BIM program. When you draw a door in Sketchup, the program does not know the size, swing, how many hinges, size of jamb, whether it's a fire door or even what type of door handle it has. True BIM will allow you automatically create a door schedule about the information contained within the object. In true BIM all objects hold information.

I agree with you that SketchUp does not natively function as a true BIM program, which is why we make extensions like Estimator for SketchUp that allow users to assign cost and and other data to components. So in your example of a door, we can specify, quantify and report all of the door elements you mentioned by making Components (and nested Components) that we can save/use over and over. We can also make the doors dynamic components so we can open and shut them (hinges opened and closed states with doors at whatever angle specified to open) with a click and change other parameters. There is literally nothing that we cannot model and offer BIM data in SketchUp, we do it on every home we build, it is just not automated or always parametric and certainly not "out of the box". Work arounds do exist though.
