- In this continuation from Part 2 : The Foundation, John demonstrates how he uses Sandbox tools and other native SketchUp tools to generate and excavated site model. By comparing existing site and excavated site models, John is able to determine how many CY of excess soils are involved.

Thanks for the videos. Tedious work is a reflection of a true craftsman. I'm glad to see they still exist.
Well thank you very much!
"Why are you spending so much time on these models?" :) My question (at least in my head) on a lot of other UA-cam videos is "Why aren't you spending more time on these models?"
I am trying to design my own house and so having it as close to buildable is my goal. Yeah, I can probably get by with not including some details. But what if the detail I chose to omit is actually come back and bite me later.
Totally agree with you. It's important to have the detail there. Especially if you only have to create a profile and then just reuse it.
Thank you for the videos!
Love it -subscribed 👍
Thank you!
And another one! On point as usual John. Thank you again for the education.
Thank you!
Great series of videos. Nice estimating tool!
Great video. :)
I have used this method to work out how much dirt needs excavating ever since I saw a earlier video some years ago where you explained this in some detail.
Looking forward to the follow up videos. :)
Thank you!
Hi John thanks for your excellent videos - they are so helpful. Will you be posting a Part 4?
Hello! Thank you very much! I just uploaded part 4 - ua-cam.com/video/XatXugg3Yn4/v-deo.html warning, it is a much longer video!
Thanks, watching now and extremely helpful. Working on a steeply sloped terrain now.
@@danielokane3482 Great! let me know if I missed anything or you have a better way of doing it! Thanks!
Love the content! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent videos, very informative. One little question though, at 08:30(ish) when you're deleting the perimeter to open up the volume of excavated space, could you not just turn off hidden geometry then single left click inside the boundary and delete?
Ha, I suppose you are right! With SketchUp, you literally "learn something new every day!" Thanks!
What hw are you using please? It feels very fluent and you move around while having tools active. So I expect a space mouse of sorts :)
Indeed, I use the SpaceMouse from 3DConnexion. I cannot model with out it! Thanks!
More cool stuff.
Thanks Steve, hope all is well!
Hi there
How do you so fluidly navigate around the model.
Certainly not just a mouse ?
I use a 3D mouse from 3Dconnexion.com - I cannot work without it!
@@BrockWorksInc thank you for the quick response
