    I started setting up my new shop about 10 months ago and got a new Grizzly table saw. Over all I have been very satisfied with the saw with the exception of the fence that came with the saw. I am finally rectifying that by upgrading the fence with a new Shop Fox fence. The operation of the new fence is much smoother and the adjustments so far have been more accurate.

    Great video! I'm about to install a shop fox on my old 1950's Craftsman, and this video definitely helped me understand the directions! I'm only now just getting to the point where the crappy old original fence was starting to be a pain, so I'm hardly a pro in setting up and adjusting a saw fence.

      A good fence does make it nicer when using the table saw. Thanks for the comment.

    Thanks for the video. I’ve been looking for a replacement fence system for my 45 yr old Powermatic cabinet saw.
    Hard to stomach the prices for a solid fence system these days! This one w 7’ rails is now $589, which is about what I paid for the saw a decade ago.. Vega is a bit less but has the round rails that I’d like to get away from, and I keep reading the finish on Vega is poor (everything needs deburred).
    The lesson here for anyone buying a used saw is to be certain you like the fence.

      I am very pleased with the new fence. As I said, the saw is nice, the fence, not so much. Good luck, thanks for watching.

    I have this fence as well on my saw. the only thing I don't like is that it has put a mark from under neath on top of my table from sliding it side ways. On mine, there is a sort of plastic or teflon pad under the fence that is to help it in sliding. I believe there is more than one but only one of them is the problem. I have sanded with 500 grit, waxed it and not I just live with it. But over all a great fence.
    Lovin the videos!!

      Thanks. Yea, there are 3 pads under the fence, of course I have not experienced any marks yet, but I think I could live with that compared to the performance of the original fence.

    While I like the fence, the box arrived in terrible condition, with gaping holes. Small parts could be seen falling out as the delivery man carried it across the yard. The styrofoam packaging was broken into bits and pieces. One piece was damaged and replaced by Grizzly. Customer support was good.
    Glad to hear you had a better experience.

      Regretfully that is a risk you you take when you order anything that needs to be shipped. I do agree that Grizzly custom service is very good. Thanks for your comment.

    I bought a grizzly 2 years ago and the Shop Fox fence came with it. I thought that was their standard, but new buyers can look out for it in the specs on the saw

      It depends on the saw as to the fence that comes with it. Mine is on the bottom of their line, so didn't come with any of the bells and whistles. Thanks for the comment.

    nice fence upgrade. My two cents - I'd also use a riving knife and push stick, kickbacks can be nasty and take your fingers

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  6 місяців тому

      Agreed. Unless I'm cutting a large piece I will use a push stick, I also like where my fingers currently are. As far as the riving knife, I only removed it for photographic purposes. Thanks for your comment.

    Awesome love the shop fox fence. I just upgraded my table saw fence last month with a biesemeyer 52 inch fence. Keep the videos coming love them 👊🏻:)

      Thanks for watching. It is night and day difference from the old fence. When locking down the old fence it would make a clicking sound and the fence would rack a little. The new fence is so smooth (not accustom to it yet) that I try to move the fence to make sure it is locked, yep, it's lock down.

    I bought the same saw a couple of years ago and went through the same process with the fence. Now I have a very solid and reliable table saw set up. A question. I noticed that you have a 4” dust collection hose connected to the cabinet. How well does your dc work with the saw? I’ve not had much success and was wondering if you have any feedback. Thanks, Nick.

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  7 місяців тому

      It is a good saw overall. As far as the dust collection, it's not great, have to push the saw dust into the DC port with a stick every now and then to clean out the cabinet. Thanks for your comment.

    I bought my Ryobi rts10 over 10 years ago and it’s still going strong. I want to upgrade the fence, but want to make sure I can remove to install on my next table saw. How universal are these aftermarket fences! I don’t mind drilling holes to make the fence compatible.

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  3 роки тому +1

      I can't say which after market fences are compatible for each saw. There are some that are only compatible with certain saws, but most, as you said, are compatible with having to drill new holes. Thanks for your comment.

    You spoke about achieving 5/1000inch side to side? Where? How did you measure that? Between what parts of the fence?

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  2 роки тому +1

      With the fence locked in place close to the miter slot I used an alignment gauge (these are made specifically for this purpose) that fits in the miter slot and measure the distance from the slot to the fence as close to the front of the table as possible. Then take another measurement at the back of the table. Depending on the length of the fence, the difference should be no greater than .004 - .006. Of course both measurements being identical would be perfect, but we don't live in a perfect world.

    Can it be drill a hole on the shop fox rail rather than the cast iron table itself, I’m on shop around between Grizzly and Laguna, I’m worried about the Grizzly aluminum fence

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  3 роки тому +1

      I can't see why not, but I have not attempted it myself. This is the second Grizzly saw I have owned, and the only issues I have had is the fence, I have replaced the fence on both. Thanks for the comment.

    • @richardlug6139
      @richardlug6139 2 роки тому

      That’s what I was thinking you could use the rail to help mark the holes and then use a drill press if you have one and drill the holes.

    I have the same saw. Is this fence any longer than the stock one? Also, what is the insert you are using? That doesn't look stock either, thank you!

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching. The fence itself is longer than the fence that came with the saw, how ever the rails that attach to the saw are shorter (but they do offer longer rails). The zero clearance insert is after market from Grizzly www.grizzly.com/products/Grizzly-Zero-Clearance-Table-Insert-for-G0771-G0771Z/T28171

    Is a bolt on the backside of the cast iron top or did you thread the hole?

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  3 роки тому +1

      I did not tap the holes. In attaching both the front and back rails I just drilled a smooth hole and attached them with bolts and nuts. Thanks for your question and for watching.

    You bought a new fence over 3/1000th of an inch?

    • @AndersenWoodCrafts
      @AndersenWoodCrafts  3 роки тому +1

      No, there were many reasons why I upgraded the fence, the issue with the old fence not squaring was just one issue. Was it a necessity to upgrade the fence, No. But the new fence is smother and just performs better as I don't have to fight with it as much, it just makes operating the table saw more enjoyable.
