I cannot tell you how helpful this video was. I am a mom of 6 kids and while I like to do things myself I’m not very good with appliance repairs.😂 I appreciate you posting this in detail and showing how easy it was. I was extremely frustrated and unable to cut off the agitator, but watching you put that bolt back in a little bit and pinging it with a hammer fixed my problem! Thank you thank you thank you🎉

Great video! Hammer tap tip was awesome. Wife wanted to get a new washer and dryer, cuz they have to match. $12 is better than $1600.
A couple things to add - I put a towel down to keep screws from falling in, aligning is because the gear teeth don't automatically align with the screw holes, threads on top bolt were kind of rusty so used some wd40.
It is ok with me if the part breaks again as long as it isn't too often, since my wife would like regular cleaning now that she saw the junk on the underside.

I have a Whirlpool washer model WTW5000DW1. It doesn't appear to be agitating. Rather than agitate, it just makes a knocking sound like it's trying to change cycles over & over & over & then eventually moves to the spin cycle & finishes. I am hoping what you do in your video will fix the issue. Do you have any thoughts?

Thanks for the helpful video - I had a similar model (mine had the fabric softener tower that made me use a long extension for the 7/16 socket) and your video certainly helped clarify the process.
An alternative to having to tap on the washplate as you're pulling up would be to stick two hooks (clip washer removal tools in the automotive industry), one on each side of the washplate, through the holes and then alternate lifting with each one to raise the washplate off the spline. Worked like a champ for me when I had to replace my basket hub. Just a thought.

I made this repair on my Maytag washer several months ago. Tonight the center bolt came loose so it wasn't agitating (also making a loud grinding noise). I would recommend y'all use some threadlocker on the bolt to ensure it doesn't come loose.

I want to add that my washplate was basically cemented on there. I spent like 30 minutes on this portion alone trying to get it off myself and finally 10 seconds after I called someone to come over for help it broke loose so I had to call them back and let them know I didn't need their help anymore haha. I had to use a flathead to wedge on the inside and the end of the hammer underneath the outside simultaneously, continually rotating, lifting, and shaking.
I was only able to get 2 of the 5 screws out because the other 3 stripped bc they were the same condition as the rest of the hardware.
And the current hub for real is entirely decayed. Looks like it crawled out of a graveyard.
Can't wait to replace it thank you !!!!!

A tip for removing the wash plate. Once i removed the bolt, I sprayed that area with a little wd40. I tried the shoestring method, to no avail. I decided to grab my harbor freight gloves that have a rubberized coating on them, to wrap the shoestring around my fingers to assist in pulling up. That failed. For some reason I grabbed two of the fins and accidentally pulled the wash plate straight up and out lol. The shoestring would have never worked because I pulled it too much to one side (to keep it from slipping out) that it was wedged under the spindle nut (where the drive pump plate is in this video).
I think by reading about the problems people had, I was expecting for it to be very difficult, so I didn't start with the easiest method. So don't be like me... try the easier, less forceful way first.

Hi I have a whirlpool cabrio and my agitator isnt working. I followed your video and there is not even a piece to replace under that first piece. can you give me an idea what to do with this model?

Mmm not sure? no part? to replace? sounds like the transmission. at this point, it would cost more to fix.

Well - good news and bad news....
The good news....This is the only method I could use to get the washplate off, and, it got it off exactly how in your video. Your video was awesome, so thank you for making it.
The bad news...the threads in the housing ( I guess the transmission??) got stripped/damaged by hitting the bolt with the hammer....
So, now, it's back to the drawing board unless I just leave the bolt as it is, as Im 100% sure that washplate wont come off on its own...

@@channelron3593 so, good news. I just chased the threads with a tap and all is well. Washer is back to use now!
      Thanks again for your video!!

A tip for future reference: you probably had the bolt backed out a little too much when you hammered it, so there wasn't enough threads for the bolt to be supported on. Understandable assuming if the bolt was threaded in too deeply, the bolt head would be below the plastic. So to solve that issue, just leave the socket on the bolt head and smack it. That saves you from damaging the bolt head and also lets you thread the bolt in more to prevent thread damage 👍

Maybe a dumb question, but is it the same to use non-original replacement parts? Will it work ok?
