    Great video - lovely to see the time and effort that goes into dialling in the right tone and effects. It's really reassuring to see the myth dispelled that these sounds just "happen to fall in place" in a flick of a switch. Particularly to someone who is only just starting to "muck around"... Thanks!

    Great idea, it may have seemed strange to make this video before the recording, to talk about how you made the sound in somewhat past tense, but as a viewer it made complete sense. And seeing the journey to the sound was insightful, so rarely seen. Understanding your delay thinking kind of makes me want to listen to it again and concentrate more on that, very atmospheric, an echo is a lonely sound, even if you're with other people, an echo gives a sense of no one out there...

    please accept my apology .. I was in the wrong .. I did not understand .. I was judging the version of message in a bottle as something else & now that I see the behind the scenes footage etc I'm full of admiration for how you have got it all going on lights camera recording etc & action .. I am so far behind in all of this .. & I understand how easy it is just to be glad you got it all to work .. & in a small way partly inspired by your trip lands end to JoG .. but mostly by Peter Mckinnon .. who I first heard of from you ( how to clone yourself ) & who I follow all the time .. I have bought a Bike & after a 30 year gap between cycling trips I am now up to 10 k on the forest flat easy forest trails .. I know one of these days you will capture your voice & performance in a magic moment . all the best from an old muso fan ben

    Mary, why is the DI track so low in volume as opposed to your vocal performance version? Did something go wrong with the file in the free download?

    • @MarySpender
      @MarySpender  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for downloading it, but basically I record things at quite a low volume to avoid any peaks and then using EQ, compression and gain you eventually raise the volume. So it might be something to work on - where I raise the volume in the future without affecting the signal in any way!

    • @TVLTNT
      @TVLTNT 7 років тому

      Hi Mary, thank you for allowing me to download the files. Also thank you for answering my question about the volume. I totally get your reason for recording the way you are. If it works for you then as they say, "if ain't broken, don't fix it"!! LOL. BTW I also like that you have become part of the Anderton's team for doing videos. BTW learn all that you can from those guys. Especially Pete as I can tell you he is without a doubt the best versatile and knowledgeable musician/guitarist that they have there. Ask him tons of questions when it comes to his playing and what he knows about music theory too. Just some food for thought for you in case it hasn't already crossed you mind. So do take care and have a great rest of the day today. : -)

    Pedals are cool. Huh.
    But even though I'm joking around, I mean they really are cool because they change the sound so drastically that it's easy to draw inspiration from them.
    I just got a fuzz overdrive today that has no fuzz! Can you believe that? No dam fuzz!
    It sounds more like a clean boost with an integrated compressor. Turning the fuzz to max increases the overall signal slightly but produces no fuzz.
    Its brand new, but I think mine may be broken. 0_0
    Fuzz is cool. Huh
    : )

    Sorry to have to tell you this Mary, but there's an expression in Portuguese that goes "Passaste de cavalo para burro" which means you traded in a stallion for a mule which is what you did with your MXR Custom Comp for the Orange Kongpressor. No comparison, the MXR is far better, Orange is an amplifier brand their pedals leave much to desire...it's kind of the the same as buying pedals made by Fender ... O yeah, I know, but the paint job is so cute.

      Digby Tomlinson, it's a pain in the ass pedal for me but I wanted echo and verb in a single unit. I can't really get any great sounds out of it and the reverb is a bit lame, but seeing Mary mess with it makes me want to spend a little more time with it. Maybe I can dial in something that keeps it off eBay :)
