- This car is a GREAT value....but can we make it perform even better just by installing a proper drift gyro? That is what I test in this video!
The car itself can be purchased many places:
- TEMU: temu.to/m/utza0b9cqwq
- Amazon: amzn.to/4ayj5lA
The gyro I installed, Futaba GYD470: bit.ly/3GOu1hb
Other gyros I think will work:
- Yokomo DP-302 v4: bit.ly/3NxiUNu
- Onsiki Daruma: bit.ly/3GU5Td0
- Hackslider mini: bit.ly/3RPyuGI

If any one starting out can jump into the hobby with a rwd capable mini drifter for under 200 that's a pretty good deal to me and can always transfer the gyro into a future project if they decide to expand the hobby. great video by the way, was hesitating on these before but seeing this has sealed the deal for me sold😅
Awesome! Glad to help.
Agree - MANY folks are hesitant based on the $$$ to get started. This should really help!
Just bought this and the yokomo dp302, been saving to jump into the hobby but now it's even easier! Hope i can get it running well. Cant wait to see you do more with this!
Awesome! Glad this could help you get started!
More to come on this car!
This is awesome! Looking forward to you adding more to it.
Thanks, will do!
@@RoadsideRC I'm about to do my first replacement on mine which is the steering servo because it's locking when you turn left. I just looked up the first 1/18 servo that I could find and I'm just waiting for it to arrive. This is my first rc car and I'm still learning what all the electronics are. How much of this car do you think can be replaced? Could a receiver be added so you can use your own Futaba?
@@StrawHatLaw13 I think if we start replacing the electronics on it, we are going to end up replacing all of them as a package.
Love this! I got one from your recommendations from your other video on this little guy and now i have an onisiki daruma on the way for it!!
Nice! Glad I could be a bad influence! :)
@@RoadsideRC oh most definitely! trying not to accidentally order a reve d rdx.... already gonna have the gyro 🤷🏾 LOL 😂
Awesome video! You've sold me on this car! I hope you make more videos modifying the LDR/C...would look killer with some aftermarket wheels!
Thanks! More to come!
Wow! What a difference Troy. Fascinating what a difference this made!
It really did! Folks underestimate the value of good electronics!
Wow i am suprised that it works! Nice video Troy
Thanks! Kind of surprised me as well!
EPIC! This is so shockingly capable of being a garage/car port drifter.
100%!!! It as really surprised me!
Thank you! Been waiting for this I might buy one now. I'm making a budget sakura d5s build and I'm wanting to get my brother into the hobby to but it's way to expensive so this is perfect to buy and upgrade for him
Awesome! Glad this helped. Good luck!
Nissan NSX.. I just died a little on the inside.. 🤣🤣.. Great video as always.. That is a bad ass little car.
Ha! Did I really say that? I didn't even catch it in editing!
Turns out - I'm not perfect, even with editing! :)
Wow huge improvement.. great mod Troy
Thanks 👍
Thank you for this video, it completly transformed my drifting experience after I shutdiwn the internal gyro and bought a 30$ gyro and calibrated it to perfection.
The car drifts like a king and according to the gain in the gyro I can make it wobble and make it easier to drift and control or eliminate wobble and demonstrate more restraint driving to drift perfectly.
Thanks, After a few months with the internal gyro having an external one is like getting a whole new car and a great one.
It was great value for money without the gyro but with it it is even more value for still little money as a 30$ gyro did an awesome job!
I really really dig it!
Awesome! A proper gyro makes a HUGE difference.
What gyro did you get?

Cool vid! Thank u for the helpful info!
Glad it was helpful!
Please do more videos on this one! I just purchased one and already got a gyro and servo for it. Would love to learn new things as a new hobbyist myself
Great! Glad you got one!
More to come on it!
An interesting upgrade seemed had a few teething problems but great result in the end test
*🎅happy christmas and holidays to all🧑🎄Au👀full view✅👍like for you☑*
Happy holidays!
Nice work, would love to see more on upgrades for this little car, picked up one myself and have a spare OMG V3 which I think has a manual gain 🤔
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it!
I moved the battery to the back, above the rear wheels, feels alot better, can confirm the OMG V3 gyro works, its pretty small too 😊
@@MrMikeAlright Nice! Great tip on moving the battery!
Man, I'd love to see LDRC make a 1988 Nissan 200sx. I had the 6cyl turbo. It was so fast and loved to drift. Many tickets in that car... Lol All black, Tinted windows, steel wheels with chrome beauty rings and hubs. But the best part was the LSD rear end with all that 3.0 power under the hood. Looked almost like the Toyota (Corolla) Ae86. Might get one of those and mod it. Awesome vid! And good luck with the gyro replacement! 🍻🖖
Thank you!
I ordered one of each (Rx7, AE86, NSX) for me, Anthony, and Nate. Dang… now I’m gonna need to get some gyros too!
Hopefully they all have some gyros laying around!
Great video! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I will buy gyd 470 soon and I hope I can drive the car just like you do. I TRUST YOU! Give the car more upgrades if possible! ^_^
Thank you. Good luck!
I'm just here to wish you a Merry Christmas 😊🎄
Thank you! Hope you have a good one!
This is awesome
Nice rc car drift man. Im fron Brasil and i liked very very nice. congratulations.
Thank you! 👍
This is incredibly good to know. I might have to do this mod for the AE86, which I will be receiving soon, and eventually the RX7 and NSX. might I suggest the next mod be the ADS 3D printed parts? I know its a file but they look promising with adjustability.
I haven't seen the parts you are talking about. Where do I see those?
HGv4, AFRC v3, Dasmikro (GT55) v5 are cheap and often used by 1/24 - 1/32 RC Drift...
I did a 3D printed upgrade for the steering, but it's not really needed.
I want the rx7.. my buddy had the real car back in high school. Such a fun car
It is great they are so cheap! I am considering picking up the other body styles as well.
Thank you for that video!!!
Could you try a dumbo RC contrôler with micro gyro receiver??
Thank you for your time!
Glad it helped!
I don't have one of those right now to test.
@@RoadsideRC I thought I saw you trying it out on your 1:10 scale
Got 2 on the way keep making these videos all ready ordered a mettle gear servo deffo doing a gyro upgrade. You shuld try find best budget plug and play gyro upgrade so it's not $80
Awesome! I hope you enjoy them.
I have tested A LOT of gyros. My conclusion has been....spend the $$$ and don't look back. There are cheaper gyros, but a gyro is VERY important. Don't skimp!
I need one. This is a deal for sure.
It really is a super-cheap way to get into drifting!
I tried this w the LDRC ae86 . managed to fit a 2430 surpass but used a cheap $12 gyro and it drove alot like your first try w the futaba gyro- slow wobbles
If you were getting the slow wobbles, then the factory gyro was still active, or the $12 gyro you went with isn't any good. That is why I jumped straight to the Futaba - it is a known, good gyro.
Do you mind sharing a link to buy your 12$ gyro?
nice!!!
nice tutorial!
Thanks!
I made a mono shock for mine but the friction shocks they have work good just add them to the existing hole one bottom arm and change out hung pin with new on with a balll end and you got full shocks
Troy and others you may be interested to know I tried the YR Hackslider Mini and it works nice. No shake or wobble when you switch the car on, or before switching internal gyro off. The only catch is it can't handle more than about 45% gain without some gyro wobble, but I believe a better servo will fix this as others have found.
At 45% I'm steering manually a little bit but it's actually super fun and a very smooth gyro. For $63 Australian it's well worth it to make it actually drift.
I've ordered a Surpass 9g servo so we'll see how that goes for adding some gain and doing some bigger smoother circles!
Agree - I have tried that gyro before and found it very limiting with gain to prevent wobble.
Stepping to a gyro with a wobble-suppression, like a Futaba gyro, will help you run more gain without issues.
I'll be interested in the servo swap!
@@RoadsideRC Roger roger, I will let you know when I've tried it. The futaba is definitely the best from what I've seen but I could justify spending $180 Australian dollars to add it to a $120 model lol
*couldn't justify
Gday Troy,
Took me a while to get back to this.
So I have the Mazda too now and swapping the servo seems to help.
I think the biggest issue with these cars which hasn't really be talked about as far as I can see is the steering lever ratio.
The servo horn is massive and I think this is the main reason the steering is twitchy.
It seems that the stronger (not faster) 9g servo can get better leverage over the steering and therefore smooths the steering somewhat, removing some wave and twitch.
I swapped the electronics on my AE86 and noticed the endpoints on the new transmitter max out the steering at 50%, which means that the steering servo is not using its full stroke due to the long servo horn I'm guessing.
I've read that making the servo stroke equal to the steering stroke will help tune out wobbles without needing to use gyro software, but I think for these cars, gyro with slow return is the easiest way.
If anyone has modified the steering linkages I'd be interested to know what effect it had
Thats a huge upgrade....Time to put my AFRC Gyro in it!!!!
Its a huge uograde. I run my gain about 55-60 % and man its so damn good now
Mines was just a pain to set up and still feel like its slightly off, or could be even better
Yes it is! Good luck!
@@MooseRidez Many people say that AFRC has a lot of wobble
@Ziger_ yeah mined isnt as smooth as others
Look into the ldrc 1899. Its what seems to be basically this car but a skyline gtr version. I just ordered one, im waiting for it to arive! Gonna definitely put a gyro and a stering servo in it!
Yes it is! It was just released.
Cool! @@RoadsideRC
Ok i actually have some cheap gyros that work smooth like your futaba gyros...one i can manually adjust gains with tiny screw driver the other has a knob to increase gains...they definitely are not jerky movements like you showed before you disabled the factory gyro...once i get my new car which is the newer model i will test...thanks for sharing
I'll look forward to hearing your results!
Yes mine only plug in between servo and rx,with gain adjustments..but maybe drift car drivers need to change gains a lot while driving, but not sure...
By chance could you do a video adjusting the camber n tow on this? I'm new to RC n have an idea of what I need to do I'm just afraid I'm going to break something that's not supposed to move/treaded or unthreaded
Thanks for the idea! It is added to the video list!
Thanks for the great video!
I have ordered a cheap gyro by RBR/C that is apparently for the WPL D12 truck. It's just a gyro with manual gain.
What rear toe settings does your car have?
Mine was not symmetrical from the factory so I adjusted it to just over 2 degrees toe which feels good. This is with stock gyro at 25% (the only useable setting). I found going more than 3 degrees toe made the car under steer and 'drag' too much despite being a little easier mid drift.. it just felt smoother with less toe, but I reckon it would be even better with a more adjustable gyro.
Hello! I have not started to tune the suspension yet. This is all with it setup exactly how it came out of the box!
@@RoadsideRC cool! It's not bad as is for the $ but that was crazy seeing it so those big smooth circles with the futaba Gyro
Decided to spend a bit more on a gyro but the futaba is way too expensive in Australia.
The hackslider mini seems like a good option, any reason to believe it wouldn't work?
(By the way sorry for the double comment, I also commented on your hackslider mini vid too)
Thanks mate!
@@bensonCP Hackslider mini is good - just not as good as the Futaba. Good luck!
@@RoadsideRC thanks man!
Considering I have never played with a real 1/10 drift car I'm guessing I wouldn't notice the difference though right? Except it would be 100% better than the twitchy stock gyro...
When i first saw their ae86 i was like wtf nah thats not something we need, lets just say they redeemed themselfs with these ones, even mod-able to a certain extent as you showed with the aftermarket servo, which is merely an upgrade even if it means a bit of a work around when you want to run it
They are surprisingly good!!!
I bot one my self it works good 👍
Good to hear!
What is the gain in gyro ? The potensiometer sets how much countersteer it gives to the servo if understood right, but the gain i don't understand what it is. By the way i bought the A86 TRUENO from the brand amewi rc and this model is awesome. It has very very good slow throttle control and i can park the model between two models like a real parking.
The gain is the sensitivity off the gyro - in your words, "how much countersteer it gives".
Same thing.
I'd really like to hear your take on converting a Tamiya tt02 to RWD mine has an mrc kit and onisiki gyro and performs pretty well so far for the price, id love to see how you could make one work
Thanks! It seems the popularity of folks converting the TT02 is going to make me try it again.
In general, I would rather spend the $$$ on a proper drift chassis, but you are not the only person who has asked me about them.
Glad it is working well for you.
awesome i can't wait....pretty sure i could learn something@@RoadsideRC
Upgrade the Servo to the Amazon drift one and a cheap brushless. I’m sure it’ll be even way better
It might! Which servo are you talking about?
Hi . How do I disable standard gyro . Love the videos 🎉
Here you go! I show how to in this video: ua-cam.com/video/SOutWNeWN2w/v-deo.html
Found an upgrade for the suspension !! And some metal parts I did myself if you would like see them
Would love to see it!
@@RoadsideRC just sent you some pics on your Facebook page on
Preface: I'm just researching the hobby so I don't know anything, I just have questions. I see there are MUCH cheaper gyros available online so wouldn't those be more suitable for a mini drifter like this? What's the performance difference between a $20 gyro and a $60 gyro? Significant enough for an absolute beginner to notice?
Happy to help - and welcome to the rc drift world!
YES - there is a HUGE difference in quality of gyro, and it makes a MASSIVE difference that everyone can feel.
It is actually one of the most common mistakes. Folks buy cheap electronics -> get frustrated with how bad the vehicles drive -> quit. Quality components are very important.
Full electronics,,, this is the way lol
How is the servo? As we know stock servo don't work well with upgraded gyro in 1:10 scale.
So far, so good! I was nervous as well. Will need to see in a longer-term test.
Would it be possible to use the radiomaster mt12 4in1 with the buld in receiver?
Possibly, but I am not sure.
Yokomo V4 has an adjustable gain that doesn't require a 3rd channel
Yes!
They make shocks so you have a much better ride and traction !!
I saw that! Might need to get some!
Yeah makes a difference obviously you know what better suspension will do……. Also I found before I made my mono and used the kit I found a cheap way to add more pressure was adding two ball post peace’s in the lower arm spots and used small rubber band around them and across the bottom of the chassis might have to try a couple to get the looseness or tightness your wanting but was effective…. As I would have stuck with it but I’m ocd and then I figured out a mono but just for quick fixes

Rbrc makes a gyro with on board potentiometer that works real good in a wpl d12 they are like 15 dollars
Nice! I haven't ever tried one of those!
I would want to see one of those value gyros you've tried since it would match the cost of the car.
I might try, but my mind is also going the other way as well. Better electronics all around.
I'd like to see bothe a budget and a no budget build but do the lower one first please
Love to see the budget option just to prove it can be done well also.👍👍
Anyone know - what wheelbase measurements does this car have?? Thinking of getting one but putting a different body on it (and yeah i know thr lights might not work if i do)
Sorry for the delayed answer!
Wheelbase is 132mm
Width us around 95mm
thank you!
Would i be better getting one without the gyro and then fitting one?
Good question - probably yes.
I have not taken one of those apart to see exactly how they are wired.
where would i b able to get that gyro? any suggestions?
The gyro I installed, Futaba GYD470: bit.ly/3GOu1hb
is the agfc gyro and agf the same ??
I am honestly not sure. Sorry.
Do you still have that little reefs gyro?
I do! It is in the even smaller drift car.
It would be better to change the steering servo too
A piece at a time...
how do you change the remote for this?
It will require a full electronics change.
