- The Dutch East Indies (or Netherlands East-Indies; Dutch: Nederlands(ch)-Indië; Indonesian: Hindia Belanda) was a Dutch colony consisting of what is now Indonesia. It was formed from the nationalised colonies of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Dutch government in 1800.
During the 19th century, the Dutch possessions and hegemony were expanded, reaching their greatest territorial extent in the early 20th century. This colony was one of the most valuable European colonies under the Dutch Empire's rule, and contributed to Dutch global prominence in spice and cash crop trade in the 19th to early 20th century.The colonial social order was based on rigid racial and social structures with a Dutch elite living separate from but linked to their native subjects. The term Indonesia came into use for the geographical location after 1880. In the early 20th century, local intellectuals began developing the concept of Indonesia as a nation state, and set the stage for an independence movement.
Japan's World War II occupation dismantled much of the Dutch colonial state and economy. Following the Japanese surrender in August 1945, Indonesian nationalists declared independence which they fought to secure during the subsequent Indonesian National Revolution. The Netherlands formally recognised Indonesian sovereignty at the 1949 Dutch-Indonesian Round Table Conference with the exception of the Netherlands New Guinea (Western New Guinea), which was ceded to Indonesia 14 years later in 1963 under the provisions of the New York Agreement.

This is honesty one of the better versions of our anthem I’ve heard. A lot of bands choose to play it very quietly, which in my opinion nullifies how truly inspiring it actually is.

the painting in the video above is a painting of Bogor Palace, in 1800+ the Bogor Palace was built in the city of Bogor (Buitenzorg) in 1830+ due to an earthquake, because of the eruption of Mount Salak, the palace was destroyed by the earthquake, the building used to have 2/3 floors, the government the dutch empire then restored the palace and now the bogor palace is used as the presidential palace, fyi indonesia has approximately 6 state palaces and may increase to 7 because there are plans to move the capital from Jakarta on the island of Java to move to the island of Kalimantan.

No shit, we ain't the same as Africa. But yeah, maintaining a country that as large as Europe is a hard task. Dutch pretty much keep local kings to run their own territory, in return they must establish "trade" agreement with Dutch. Only Batavia (which is now Jakarta) which runs directly under Dutch Monarch. And that's why until today Jakarta is still became the centre.

@@АртемМакєєв Well correct me if I'm wrong, The VOC itself is a partially state owned Company under the Dutch Republic not a Political or Government entity, you could argue that the VOC itself have some government functions during it's time but functionally they are a Company that traded spicies and resources across the Dutch Colonial Empire and to other Colonial Empires.
And as to why Indonesia GDP is lower than during the VOC is probably because the Concept of Indonesia haven't been invented yet until Tan Malaka coined the Term in his book Naar De Republik and mostly because the Wealth of the VOC were confiscated by the Netherlands after it's fall

English as a foreign language is probably more useful for Indonesians anyways. The two countries immediately to the north and south - Singapore and Australia respectively - have English as a national language. With Malaysia and Brunei at least they have Bahasa as the first language
