Cup of Solid Gold wasn't the anthem for the entirety of the Qing Dynasty, as it only became the official anthem of the Qing Dynasty on October 4, 1911, but was relinquished in February 1912 when Empress Dowager Longyu abdicated the Qing throne on behalf of six-year-old Puyi, so the anthem didn't actually last that long! It was the first official anthem of China, though Pu Tian Yue is often viewed as the first but it was not approved officially by the Qing. The golden cup was a ritual instrument that symbolized the empire, first used by Emperor Qianlong to wish for the solidification of political power and the country's development and prosperity. So the anthem is about the stability of said cup. Ironically, six days after it was adopted, the Wuchang Uprising happened, beginning the Xinhai Revolution that ended the dynasty. While the First Mexican Empire didn't last long, its anthem is far older! It was written by Rabanus Maurus, a ninth-century German monk, teacher, archbishop, and saint. When the original Latin text is used, it is normally sung to a Gregorian Chant tune first known from Kempten Abbey around the year 1000! As an invocation of the Holy Spirit, Veni Creator Spiritus is sung in the Catholic Church during liturgical celebrations on the feast of Pentecost, at both Terce and Vespers. And an interesting fact about the Federal Republic of Central America is its flag was inspired by Argentina's! French-Argentine sailor Hipólito Bouchard raided Spanish outposts across the Americas and so when these Central Americans saw the Argentine flag raised, they viewed it as their flag of liberation.

Ja, bizzarre Idee, eine Nationalhymne auf der Orgel zu wimmern, zumal diese, die aus einem Streichquartett stammt. Unangemessener geht es kaum. Man könnte es als Beleidigung der Deutschen auffassen.
Thank you for sharing the Orange Free State (Oranje Vrijstaat) anthem. Along with this ancestral republic of my forefathers was the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek(Transvaal) situated just across the border. The two countries that followed after these two were first the Union of South Africa when we came under British rule and then our own independent Republic of South Africa commencing in 1961, and after all this, the post-Apartheid Republic came into fruition. Great channel!
Oh my God the Qing Anthem gets me ALL the time… the Oriental tune with all those meaningful Chinese lyrics makes it stand out from all these as a very good anthem. To be honest, I would consider it the best out of all of these. It just feels more native to China than say the March of the Volunteers that Communist China currently uses… too bad the anthem only lasted a few years it is sooooo good. If I was Chinese I would be so patriotic and proud about my national anthem if it was the Cup of Solid Gold. 🔥🔥
As someone who’s been to Hawaii multiple times and lived in Hawaii for a period of time, that anthem is so fitting. I can just imagine drone footage of Hawaii with that anthem playing.
I don't know why but the Prussia's one fits Gilbert so much, lol. Although it sounds like some casual WW1 music or the English 'God save the King'. But I love it, haha
It is basically god save the king with German text. Besides, the Kaiser was related to the British monarchy.. On the eve of WW1 he said "Blut ist schwerer als Wasser" (blood weighs heavier than water - but he apparently was wrong)
I liked it too, so I looked it up. Apparently it's a 9th C hymn, usually sung "Gregorian", but this particular version is modern as composed by the Italian Andrea Montepaone, who is presently 44. Thus, this orchestration would not have been used by the First Mexican Empire. However, I'm glad the person who put this together chose this, otherwise I likely would never have heard it.

The Brazilian Empire had two anthems. The first, the same one you listed in the video, was written by our first Emperor and was used until 1841, when Dom Pedro II became emperor at 14 yeras old and they composed a completely different anthem. Whereas the first hymn talked about freeing Brazil from colonial chains, the second one exalted the person of the monarch. Today, the Anthem of the Republic of Brazil shares the same melody with the second Imperial Anthem, albeit they obviously erased the monarchical tendencies of the lyrics to suit their Positivist ideas.
D.Pedro II real name was D.Pedro de Alcântara, son of D.Pedro IV of Portugal. His father gave the independence and went back to Portugal to fight in the civil war against his brother, D.Miguel. That's why he abdicated in favour of his son when he was just 14 years old.
The Ottoman Empire one is only for the years 1909-1918. Almost every Sultan had different marches spesifically for them like the Mecidiye Marşı for I. Abdulmecid (1839-1861).
To be fair, if I walked into Istanbul into a market and heard this tune, I’d want to get jiggly with it. What a tune! It makes me connect with my inner old lady….
That’s true for a lot of these, most countries didn’t really have national anthems until the 19th century. And of course the March of Henry the 4th would be written 600 years before his reign as king of France

It was only a national "anthem" (unnoficial) during the first reign. First Mexican Empire one: very Ennio Morricone-like. I see that one was current only a couple years, as an anthem at least...but lovely.
