Queen Elizabeth at Northcott Towers 1963

Opened by Queen Elizabeth on the 4th March 1963, Northcott was built as part of the NSW Government's Slum Replacement Program. The main building was state of the art - Australian 60s style - 428 units with pastel colourings, individual kitchens and high-speed electric lifts.
Northcott is one of Sydney's most famous and infamous buildings. Born as a dream solution to the post-war public housing crisis ... years passed and that dream became a nightmare. The building became synonymous in the public mind with suicides, murders and drug deals..But now the residents are working hard to turn that perception around.
