This was before Brock & Moffat.
Greenwich Wharf at 7.02. Hunters Hill Bus at 7:12
Great cars . Better than the crap now. Built with spanners not chop sticks.
Music by Nick Ingman-Throng
Nice to see this race in quality colour, back in the day we watched it on a 24" black and white TV.
The last true production Bathurst race, before politics and corporate corruption, became the dictator.
The 70’s good times but remember how Ford Factory retired when the Torana V8 finally came out, the Ford roller rocker affair. Really give credit where it’s due Moffat, Goss and Carter didn’t give up! CAMS gave concessions to keep Ford Alive, really the decade to Giant killer, Torana‼️
I spent the day with Bob at his thunder dome not that long ago he’s a wonderful man with so many great stories! Thanks Bob !
Had to turn off the commentary's sound it made no sense when he mentions ie a car number but the film shows you something difrent. Perhaps it was never edited.😮
1967 the first time that I went to Bathurst. Driven up there by a friend in a new XR V8. Unfortunately I was just 16 and did not even have L plates. The Falcon GTs were truly awesome.
Wow. Intrepid Diggers.
I went to Bathurst 500 every year in the 60s and 70s Travelled there in my father's Jag XK. 120 M We use to camp outback of the pits. I use to wander around the pit area or hang out at turn one usually by myself My father was busy doing duties there I remember going to ARDC meetings during the week at night It was on Parramatta Rd Leichhardt if I am remembering correctly Great days for true production car racing cheers
Love the sound of the Ford V8, great memories
Great memories I was 13 long time ago
It was all great, the cars were real, not the ‘sleds’ of today and the guys were crazy brave. You can’t live in the past, but I do miss it 😊. I’ve owned most of those cars, they were all quirky and their own special little problems …
Love the profile of the race tyres back then 👍
2:10 someone's gorgeous grandma was at the races that day.
Only thing wrong with this video is the false squealing tyres.
What size engine did that ALPHA have?
A Corolla on the same track as a GTHO Falcon !!!
great
Absolute classic. Looks something like 60 cars. Virtually every make / model. Even Holden's secret weapon, the EH.
I remember odds and evens days. And cars being milked overnight if left out.
Look at Conrod back then. Rough as guts. Those blokes from the 60s and 70s had balls.
What date was this?
Bloody great camera coverage for the time. The Aussies have always been ahead with camera work.
At least the Valiants had 273 V8s, in 1965 why didnt holden put 238,s in the Eh,s, the 64,65 fords were 221, 260 and 289 v8,s in America.
I was at this one, up a tree at forest elbow...rode out the from Sydney on my old Honda 500/4....memories
Sydney High School!
Cars to die for today.
Would be awesome to have the video and audio track lined up to match.
The falcons were windsor powered
Wish I could have watched the all the 70s era Bathursts live through the years even though I was just a kid….real racing and no technology to think for the teams and their drivers …and teams used their nounce to use different manufacturers to make their cars work….todays yank tanks are so regulated they have turned it into the boring racing as it is now and back in the 70s and 80s the drivers were characters….drivers today are rich kids with hardly any personality.
Legend Harry Firth 2:03 after Ford told him to buzz off in 1969 He was the man behind the HDT Racing team he was the guy who brought into the team Colin Bond and the GOAT Upstart Peter Brock, he was behind Colin Bonds win in the 1970 Bathurst with the 350 Monaro, we all know how P Brock went from then on
These wer cars not the plastic today. I miss them
Never thought I would see that !!! Interesting to watch despite the lack of over 100 Cameras like todays coverage :)
is this content free to re-distribute?
When cars were the street machines with a few enhancements.
How come Every Car sounds like a Holden 202 with hotdog.? The tyres. What a shame the bulshit audio ruins the whole show. You barstardes, how dare you.!
…is that you Greta? ( “bastardes” and “how dare you” was the giveaway!)😂
@malcolmwhite6588 Nah Mel, its Karan here⚠😆 If you'd ever been to The Bathurst, you too would be piss'd about this fake audio.! (Brainless fux😠)
Interesting !
Tow truck on the racetrack, people on edge of track, marshalls upending a car middle of track....and racing continues!! Haha..who needs safety!
Ford Cortina was one of the best road cars back in the day.
Parody of Piano Man by Billy Joel
It was an interesting comment by the Chrysler team manager that they're not interested in pushing hard, they were more interested in having ALL the chargers finish.
Never had the proper brakes. With the right brakes and gearing would have won several Bathursts says the Geoghegan bros.
I would like to be in the car with Allen Moffat and driving the GT ho would be great
Who noticed Schoolboy taken notes was Peter Brock
Aren’t the cars heaps of shit compared to today, still looks like fun
In The Early '70's, There Was A Huge Hailstorm In Sydney, And The Streets Were Under About A Foot Of The Stuff!! I Can't Remember Exactly What Year, Maybe Someone Can Tell Me, But The Local Catholic Bishop Press-Ganged My Brother And I To Climb The 3 Stories Of "Swifts House," The Bishop's Residence At Darling Point, To Shovel The Hail From The Roof, Which Had Dozens Of Hips And Valleys, Because A Wedding Downstairs Was Being Leaked On!! I Was About 10 Years Old At The Time, And My Brother Was In His Early Teens!! It Was An Incredibly Irresponsible Act To Send Us Up There, And A Very Dangerous Job, But The Catholics Were A Law Unto Themselves Then, And Frankly Didn't Give A Shit!! Nor Did They Give Us Any Money, Any Food, Or Even A Bloody Lift Home; Wet Through And Shivering, We Had To Make Our Own Way!! There Never Was A Heavier Hailstorm In Sydney, Oxford Street Was Buried In Hail!! I Hope Someone Can Remind Me Exactly Which Year It Was; I Think It Was In Winter, Because We Were Bloody Freezing After Moving Tons Of It Off The Roof Of Swifts!!
How we once were .. beautiful pre IT world
What a great period .. beautiful
