Rollers! Join me as we continue our solo playthrough for the 4th volume of the HEXplore It series currently on Gamefound. Domain of Mirza Noctis is created by Kat Kimoundri, Nathan Loos, Jonathan Mariucci and published by Mariucci J. Designs, LLC! In this video we'll run through several rounds of play and touch on new aspects of the this entry. Hope this helps you make an informed decision for yourself! Enjoy ;D
    *Corrections:*
    - The opponent drawn for 'Tenacious' becomes tenacious. There isn't a bolded keyword on the card itself.
    - The Crows were a favored opponent so I had a 50% chance at taking them out the first round when they had 3 health left.

    *True Solo Rules (Draft):*
    - You begin the game with Blood Magic, Tier 1.
    - The first time your hero dies, increase the Blood Pool by 5, draw and gain a random Greater Aspect, and move your hero to the nearest Village.
    - During the Declaration phase of combat you may choose to spend 1 Energy to perform the Defend action at half rank and take another action simultaneously. You may still only use one item per turn.
    - When rolling Skill tests to attempt an Investigation, roll each test twice and apply both results. Traps only activate once, even if more than one roll triggers one.
    *New Gameplay Features:*
    1. Aspects & Greater Aspects
    2. Familiars
    3. Keepsakes
    4. The Dungeon
    5. Rune Collection
    6. Heroic Cards
    7. Interrupt Cards

"Krasvetelia. The sun sets on this cold and desolate place. Once a beautiful land of craggy mountains, fertile valleys, and deep bottomless chasms, it has now wilted like a rose in winter.
The small kingdom, tucked away from the rest of the world, has had few rulers in its time. None certainly as evil as their current. It is rumored that Mirza Noctis came to power some two-hundred years ago. Eternally youthful, the man is whispered to have controlled the bloodlines of this place, carefully arranging unions between noble families and culling those of weaker bloodlines.
Now, the peoples of Krasvetelia live a harsh life, starved of happiness. Writing is outlawed and the caste system in place prevents all but a handful of nobles from holding titles and land in Noctis’s name. Up until recently, starving to death was most of Krasvetelian’s worries. But more and more, people are going missing in this land. Devoured by darkness, some say...
The scholars, left to themselves in their remote monasteries, have recently unearthed a terrible secret: Mirza Noctis is working tirelessly, his agents harvesting blood from the local populous. Years of unattachment to this land have left the people mostly unaware of his actions. But a terrifying fact is now clear: Noctis is working towards a massive blood ritual. He has all but locked away any tools that could be used to defeat him, and the scholars worry he is just beginning. A greater threat is about to befall the land..."

Thanks for the video! JUst a note about that encounter. You had Favored opponent against those Carrion Crows and a 50% chance at taking them out the first round when they had 3 health left, and if not that first round, they would have died the second round for sure. That was a stressful encounter for you that early on!

You have rolled a Critical Success when looking for the first Blood Collector. It should allow you to Ambush them. Have you done it?

I believe that when you find the ruin entrance it needs to go under the location you are standing. To answer couple of questions to comments. Yes you can speed up game with the double up rules. Also characters level up and get much stronger, this will help make it much easier to pass skill checks. Just keep watching. Heplore it is one of my favorite games to solo.

Hey Kenneth! Thanks for following up on these. You’re right about the Crypt, I believed I saw ‘tile’ after ‘hex’ but that wasn’t the case. An easy mention in the next one. Cheers!

How do you compare this with Solomon Kane? Which one has its hooks in you?

so is this a campaign with multiple quests in an adventure book, or just the 1 quest replay with different combo of heroes and random events and monsters ?

Your goal is to stop Noctis and how that occurs will be completely different every time. Win or lose. 😄

If I remember correctly Dual and Triple attacks means that many hits. In case of solo, your character takes all hits. When rolled Hex for Carrion Crows they should make 2 hits 5 health each. Is this changed?

    • @RollingSolo
      @RollingSolo  3 роки тому

Hey! Great question. When playing True Solo, you take a single hit. Dual and Triple don't have a True Solo player hit multiple times. Cheers!

I'm excited for this, but I'm going to get Dead King and Sands so that I can 1) Have some practice sessions in earlier editions and 2) Make a Human Whip Master to go all Bellmont on Mirza.

Wasn't one of your rewards when you beat the blood collector a clue? I did not see you put that down Assuming you were going to put it on the crypt card.

Hey Philip! I place that clue shortly after and I believe I placed it on the Dancing Trees. 👍🏼

This game looks very complex. Many rules, and a lot push your luck with dieces. Does that go smooth after few rounds or its not getting easier with time?

That’s how the games are, at least at first and until you start building the character, then it gets smoother.
Gets easier once you get used to the rules and mechanics, but still can be luck based at the start if you get bad rolls.

The game seems to be about the levelling up and acquisition of skills and gear, but to make that progress feel tangible, your characters start off very um...incapable. You're kinda just dropped into the map and need to survive for long enough to be sufficient to get power ups, and once you acquire those power ups things get easier. However, you can sometimes just get murdered very early on, in which case you chalk it up to bad luck and continue. Mirza Noctis apparently has some safety rules in place however, to make it so that even if you get roasted after taking two steps into the wilderness, you can still continue playing in an altered state (become a zombie, ghost, vampire, etc.).
You just have to chalk up the RNG to the nature of the sandbox and old school dungeons and dragons RPG survival systems that are in place to create variability and arbitrary challenge. As far as complexity is concerned, yes it's a complex game but no more than is typical for a standard tabletop RPG, which this board game is seeking to simulate as a Dungeon Master-less old school experience. It's a very targeted niche group that is used to a bit of bookkeeping and rng, in which you're kinda in or out just by looking at it in solo, otherwise you'd need someone to be around to teach you the game as a first timer, but I probably wouldn't start with this if you've never played a single dungeon crawl or tabletop RPG before unless you insisted. Instead I'd reccomend Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion or Mice and Mystics or sit in on someone's game of Dungeons and Dragons to get a feel for the bookkeeping.

MIrza Noctis really buttons up a lot of what I liked from the other entries but also just flows round by round much more natural and keeps the pacing much better!
