The 550 always seemed to me like the only Ferrari you could truly enjoy, IE take it to the lake District for the weekend, enjoy the car and then hit a stretch of British 'road surfacing' or a bad bit and not totally ruin it! Beautiful. I think you should buy it....
That's the one you want - an early 550 in silver with a red interior and manual gearbox. Had the rare pleasure of driving a 575M Fiorano Pack at an SMMT Test Day at Millbrook many moons ago and absolutely adored it. I can still hear that V12 wail even now!
Judging by the Mini Disc option on the stereo I'd guess that could be a Sony head unit. A few years ago, a friend gave me a lift in his 550M. Given it was at the edge of a built up area I thought we'd just bimble along and I'd get to soak up the glorious ambience of this Italian masterpiece. Thing is, my friend is also Italian so it was driven as intended.. Blimey, the noise, the handling, the well, everything! An unforgettable experience and one that I'm forever grateful for.
Small correction - this wasn't the first front-engined Ferrari since the Daytona. The 365GT4 2+2, which became the 400 and then the 412 were made from 1972 to 1989. And this was preceded by the 365GTC4, which was 1971-72.
I've just watched the JayEmm on Cars-review of the Peugeot 407 coupé and now this Ferrari on Furiousdriving - it's like the upside-down world 😀. But what a treat this is, for you and thus also a little bit for us viewers. Back then, I always thought the 456 GT was the really more handsome Ferrari, but over time 550s styling has grown on me and with also the berlinetta concept behind it, I now think I would prefer the 550. Not that I have to worry about dilemmas like that 😁.
Matt - it sounds from your enthusiasm that you have just met your hero. Sports cars aren't my thing, but I can see the appeal. Sadly exotics are too often driven by tame older people that never actually use the car.
I'm normally not bothered by supercars...I'd rather drive an 80s or 90s everyday classic. But I do make allowances for Ferrari! Love the styling and after driving a yellow F430 Spider once I was smitten! This one looks beautiful. Especially the rear end!
Don't really care for Ferrari's but front engined Ferrari's are one of the most beautiful cars ever made. 456 is also a looker. Must have been a great day with this 550, memories will last a life time I bet. Great video Matt!
Love this - I've never been as passionate about Ferrari as some of their competition, but the 550 is an exception - I absolutely love the styling of these inside & out, coupled with that NA V12 & gated manual. I bet driving one of these would be a magnificent experience. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Wow! I wasn't expecting a Maranello test drive, but I sure am happy to see one! I'm not a huge Ferrari fan, but I do have a soft spot for their 90s offerings. They just all have so much class compared to the overstyled things they've been building lately. Personally I like the 456 the most, but the 550 isn't far behind. Both are truly incredibly beautiful cars with wonderful interiors and of course fantastic mechanicals. Thanks for sharing this work of art with us!
I would put a sports exhaust on that to hear that glorious v12 sing. It's almost drowned out by tyres. Then again it's a grand tourer so you don't want it to drone in the background. So it would be difficult to get that balance right.
I always liked a prancing horse to have it's engine in the middle and most of them did through much of the 1980's. I remember there being a buzz around the 550 with the return to putting a V12 up front. My personal.favourate front engined model those is the 456GT which also has that V12 mated toma trans axle but with space for two more people in the back. I actually think.the 456 is prettier and also still has pop up headlights. Either way it's a very special feeling to be out in any 90's Ferrari.
That's a beautifal looking Ferrari and has the best thing a gated manual that's a Ferrari to me, as others have said the head unit looks to be a Sony type head unit. Another car for my dream garage.
Not bad for a runaround I suppose! I guess someone had to do the review so you took one for the team.....not jealous at all.....tongue in cheek of course.
Excellent video (Incidentally, it seems Maranello is an Italian town, not a type of cherry - who knew!) Just think, without adjusting for inflation, all I have to do is put a ten pound note in a jar every day and I will have enough to buy one in less than 50 years! 😢 Beautiful car though!
That example has aged well. No shrunken dashboard leather. All the plastics haven't started peeling (VW and ford owners know what I mean!). And it's not red! Bella! I wish they were still under priced!
What an amazing car! Maybe you should sell your whole collection, your house and your family and get this? 😂😉 The stereo is a XR-F21 RDS from Sony, by the way.
And the Best feature of all No stupid touch screens At all sticking up like a sore thump on the dash spoiling that beautiful interior Just proper real Dials Great Job Ferrari Great review furiousdriving
Its a nice car, a very nice car indeed. Perhaps you should indeed have picked up one when they were relatively cheap, but could you honestly stomach the running costs? Methinks it would have been quite of a culture shock compared to your usual vehicles when any repair bill comes due...
Not sure what it is, but the 550s didn't really do it for me from the ourside.. Lovely interior though! I much prefered the 456 stylistically. However the 550 certainly beats anything from Ferraris current lineup by miles in my opinion! ... Whatever that may consist of lol
Wasn’t the 456 a v12 and production started in 1992 where the 550 production started in 1996 ? Great review of a great car. I’d like to see you review a 456 or 412 😀
So, there were 3 front-engined V12 models between the Daytona and the 550. The GTC4, the 400 series and the 456. There was only a 3 year gap between the last 412 and the first 456. I presume that the presenter is quoting the auction website, and that both have simply omitted the term "two-seater" from their descriptions.
Very pretty indeed, but 2 out of 3 in my garage look better in my eyes. ;) Would've loved to hear you do a full week, south of France type review of it!
First Steph now you driving a more recent Ferrari. I think this late 90s/early 2000s era Ferraris are the last pretty Ferraris, can't really relate to the newer ones.
Comparing a car like this with an electric piece of junk is like comparing a faberge egg with a dog`s pie that frosted over in winter morning... Sure, both sparkle, but one is a piece of art, where the other is a turd, literally...
Looking for this specific car review however this is a right-hand drive version which makes the car complete trash. Ah the UK with their terrible cars, food, weather, boring roads and wrong driving orientation. I'm outta here.

One of my all time favourite cars! I'm loving the variety! Only a few days ago I was enjoying your Vauxhall Carlton video
We cant stay at those heady heights all the time so balancing with this! Although this has become one of my favourites now..

Nice car but for some reason I prefer the mk1 Mondeo you had recently
You've moved in new territories with this one. Always interesting.
Greetings from Slovenia.
If I sell 3 Rovers I could probably get one...manybe
This and the 456GT are one of my favourite late XX century Ferraris
I’m not really much and the supercars or Ferraris but this car is a work of art, thank you
Oh yes! Have always wanted one of these, and if my numbers ever come up I will be absolutely buying one 😄
What a beautiful design. Love the red leather! Great video as ever!

Beautiful car though!
Why does everybody forget about Ferrari 400i,412i
They are also front engine v12 gt cars
Still looking stunning after all these years so easily understandable why jayemm bought one

Great vid! Nice to see some fancy machinery in the mix.
I like that colour combination for these.
I didn't know the UK RHD models had the temperature gauges in Fahrenheit, strange detail.
that was an odd detail!
The Maranellos always seemed like the most likely Ferraris to be good for daily driving and touring….and quite lovely too.
8:51 HOOT!!
Thanks
Thank you!
that horn reminds me when I'm my moms village when baker arrives. "bread? cakes? anyone?"
This has been my dream car since I was a kid and had 550 posters in my bedroom

Stunning presentation and execution 🎉
550 is one of my favourite ferrari 😍
Yes, jaw droppingly beautiful! What a machine! That's not a car... it's a work of art!
Not me trying to find more 550 videos and up pops a Furiousdriving drive of one!
That boot's an appropriate size a body would easily fit in there.
So, will you be changing radio stations for pop master or giving Gary Davies new quiz a go?
What's with the ferrari's, first Steph and now you, makes me wonder if we'll see Ian in a Testarossa😬
This Ferrari is a lovely car and the gated shifter the only thing to have in a Ferrari any Ferrari
Che macchina! 😁👍
Si si! Bellisima!
When one sees this car, can only be like 🤤. And this one in mint condition, absolutely stunning.
356 Daytona was 1968. SD1 was 1971. Think it was other way around, Rover copied Ferrari. What I was told as a child.
the 456 had the front enging layout before the 550
First V12
Wasn’t the 456 a v12 and production started in 1992 where the 550 production started in 1996 ?

What would Mrs Furious say if you rolled up outside the house in that and put the for sale sign on the house?😅
I think she'd finally be happy with one of my purchases!
What’s not to like about it Matt , pure perfection in looks and beauty and a dream car for someone 🙁, sadly not in my price range either 😁👌🏻.
This car is seriously desirable. They don’t make em like they used to.
Woah! I had no idea that a Serbian designer worked on Ferraris.
Nice Supra
Awesome car matt you do get to drive some very exotic cars great review all the best donny

I bet JayEmm watched this!
199mph.... I'd feel short changed in the super car stakes🙄
This is the best Ferrari money can buy?
I’m not sure you could come off that clutch any slower if you tried. 😂 I know it’s not yours, but do you have to slip it that much? 🤨
Beautiful car 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I get the feeling this would have a place in your lottery win dream garage...
You could have ripped the polythene off the floor so we could have seen the carpet in it’s full glory 😬
Same steering wheel as a integra type r dc 2

Always the best!

The Rover SD1 was, of course, an homage to the Daytona. Not the prettiest car, imho. Most Astons, for example, would knock it into a cocked hat!
If the car was involved in an accident and caught fire the magnesium wheels would produce a spectacular sight if they ignited.
Looks terribly like a Peugeot 406 coupe 🤗
