I own this game for years now and alwas come back to play it. It's an absolute gem of a game and deserve much more attention.

I feel truly blessed to live in this age of information. I, like many, discovered this game by way of *_[Hey Hey, People]_* and, as is the case with many of his games, games like these would be unlikely to EVER have an audience where I live. But, with the internet, I can see ANOTHER Starsector game going on. With my finger broken, i wont be playing this till it heals, so it's nice that i can still get my fix of a wonderful game by way of *THE* premier Starsector Streamer that I'd never have known about were it not for me trying to look up gameplay that wasnt heavily edited in such a way to make it seem like absolute chaos ALL THE TIME

The quality of this game is amazing and with an active and dedicated modding community there is no end of exploration and combat variety.
except when you have 300 mods on , and have to wait 20 min s to load, but once your in, your good to go :D

thanks so much for this, Nook, putting this as a long running series on my channel because of your vod. (I played this when it was called something else, but you reminded me of it.) This feels like how Pirates! felt to me when I was 6. SO HYPED! Any advice for an Uber Noob?
I never really thought about it, but this is probably the closest thing to Pirates! Maybe that’s why I like it so much 😆
Noob advice? Stick with the little ships for a while, they’re quick and can avoid the big fleets.
You can also bounce around the core systems picking up salvage for cash.

I have literally played this game since it came out - it is SO replayable, and with a the mods it is like playing a new game every time!
I bloody love this game. Got it when it first appeared and keep coming back every few months for a new RP playthrough XD
it REALLY nails the epic space opera thing from the ground up, inserting you as a nobody into the decaying remains of a working 'universe' and allowing you the freedom to do as you please..........
love to see the ever expanding features and lore and, of course, mods.........
a little late but you can suspend repairs to preserve supplies, you had plenty to make it back but burned it on repairs.
I can only reccomend everyone tries this game. It's well worth the price. Played well over 300h and haven't even come close to seeing everything. With a vast array of high quality mods this game gets even better and more immersive.
Alex is the main dev but there is also David who does art and writing, along with some others on a part-time or contract basis afaik
painful to watch when you have no small tankers or haulers in fleet, when you clearly need them...and in every place you see them for sale you don't buy them
While watching Nook's channel has been very helpful in finding quality indie games to enjoy, it has also been massively detrimental to my entertainment budget. Eh, this is fine. Thanks Nook, and keep up the good work!
Personally I'm a really big fan of the combat freighters for early game cash. The Cerberus is a lot of fun to fly, and if you start with a Wolf you have the perfect cover from casual piracy. The Cerberus is built like a brick shithouse. The Wayfarer is also fun.
The moment you mentioned slipstream, I thought of Andromeda
The Interstellar Imperium mod just got updated for anybody who was waiting for that mod to start a new playthrough

was playing this game modded, found a really rare ship called the susanowo from musashi manufactorum, ran me a rediculous expense cost along with slowing my fleet, I destoryed a paragon in three salvos

As to development team size, I notice that the blogs on the Fractal site are attributed to two different handles, which would suggest that it is a two person project at least... unless it is one guy with a split personality... That is good as I imagine working alone on a project for over a decade could get lonely.

I always find myself joining the many members of the merchants guild when playing.
Sometimes you can very rarely get two salvages if there's a LOT to slavage, but for the most part it's one and done now.

Starsector is, and seemingly forever will be, $15. It’s easily worth 3x when you factor in mods and continued, dedicated development for the last decade. If you are watching this and considering buying the game, stop considering and start doing.
Finally actually bought the game, got around to updating it too. Now my mods don't work anymore : (

This game is pretty much like an onion because it has many different layers. lol
I bought this in high school almost ten years ago, one of the best investments i have ever made in my own happiness. I keep bouncing back into it every now and then and play for a couple-three days and always happy to play it.
this game is amazing with mods, infact the mods makes starsector, but because it is java it runs 32 bit, so loading times are not solvable at the start, i do wish for a restructure of the game to allow mods to be loading more efficient
what are you talking about? java has a 64 bit version man, the games launcher detects your system and then downloads the correct version. the mods and everything load great i'm running 60+ of them xp you need a better pc i think

There's a few gems that fly under the radar that people *need* to play. This is one. Deep Rock Galactic is another. I regret ignoring it for so long.
Just bought this game last night. Haven't played it yet, but it sure looks good. I love this style of game but always wanted one with a lot more depth, and this one looks like it has that depth.

Are the mods necessary to have fun or is the base game good enough for 50-100hrs atleast?

Base game is more than enough and recommend for at least 2-3 play throughs before you start adding mods, just because quite a few things have changed throughout the 0.95 build.
Game is the tits. One of the best purchases I've ever made

Playstyle so far remind me of FREELANCER game, you fight A-LOT in this game, i can see same here
You can certainly avoid almost every fight. Especially if your fleet is focused on speed and low sensor signature.
... But the fights are just too much fun to avoid most of the time.

@@Dietrich_Kaufmann If you've already bought it but can't find the key then it'd be worth emailing the devs - I lost my key once and they sorted everything out fairly quickly.
Then to get the new update all you have to do is go to the website and redownload from the page at 00:00.
If I could checkout with PayPal or buy it on steam I would but I don't trust the checkout on the main site looks sus.
You can use Ssethzeentach a youtubers cd key for this it works xdd. Im a poor student so cant afford to buy the game. If u go check his video it has the key.
While the web interface looks a bit archaic because it’s from when the game had a different name during its development, I can attest it’s legit and works as I decided to support them and not use Sseths key.
Do I need a actual pilots license for this game like EVE Online? if its over complicated my excitement has disappeared
It's not that complicated, take's a while to get to fully grasp it but its not really hard difficult to understand.
The campaign map is pretty easy to navigate, it’s the combat interface that’s the hardest to learn and master. But you always have the option of playing combat like an RTS with skills that even support this by giving extra command points, better judgement from ships with and without officers etc.
