I learned so much in this single video. I can apply a lot of the stuff to other games in CrossOver.
Controller works fine, just disable Steam Input.
I found a few games that have this issue and disabling steam input allows any controller to work, and is recognized as Xinput.
Shredders Snowboarding had this issue with my DualSense controller. Turning off steam input was the fix.

Have you tried this with a steam controller by any chance? I luckily found ms DS4 yesterday since the SC didn't work properly (felt like it was using whatever profile it remembered and couldn't switch), but my first attemps with the DS4 failed too (althought I was trying to play MH rise)
@@sm0nk420 unfortunately don’t have a Steam controller to test. Sold mine a few years back & wish I had not.
I had a hiccup tonight with it my DS5, but rebooting Crossover & Steam fixed it not recognizing.
I only turn off Steam Input per game, since some of the games like Skater XL require it to be on for certain controllers.
@@mLucius25It's okay man, thanks for replying anyway! Can you actually use steam to make proper configs? Basically, I've been playing MH rise by having 2 separate triggers for gyro aiming: pressing the left trigger for a softer aim, and touching the right pad for a faster one for making quick turns and moving the camera. I wanted to do something like that but things were pretty strange and I didn't really understand what was happening (althought I'm only using whisky so far, but I'm thinking of getting crossover once I have ample justification). Can I achieve something like that with this method? How do I refer to toucing the DS touchpad, and is it a single one or is it divided in sections (saw left-right in settings but I wasn't sure if it's assuming SC layout). Thanks in advance!
Hey Andrew! I thought I'd try asking some questions directly because your experience could save me tons of experimenting. I've been using whiskey for 2 weeks maybe and I had really recent resuslts with newer games, but I'm a 240hz guy so I'm always looking to max things out. I also tried some older games during the weekend, but most of those ran catastrophically. Since I probably won't be able to test much before my crossover trial ends I'd like to ask for some advice instead. My current assumption is that I'd have had more luck with crossover when I was testing the old games (queke3, cs1.6, UT2004), do you think that's correct? Also, for newer games (dx11 or 12) does crossover perform better in general (if so, how much better approximately)? I also found some way to get FSR working on DLSS only games, do you think that would work here? I'd also be interested in knowing what workflow you'd go by when you wanted to increase performance in a certain game, or if you have an idea what could cause a game to focus on efficiency cores instead of using performance cores even in high power mode. Do you know of any way to activate game mode for whisky? Could crossover possibly solve the game mode and the e-core issue? Honestly the 20% discount seems pretty temting if it solves some of my issues... :D
Sorry for the question dump, but I guess you already know most of this so I'd save insane of time if I only test what's still necessary... :D

If you're here in 2024 and are using a Macbook M1/M2 and you're getting a dumbass error message saying "Creating steam bottle task failed" you must update your Mac to the latest MacOS. Right now its Sonoma 14.3. As soon as I updated I was able to install steam no problem and I could follow along with the video! Hope this helps.

@@ivanv6862 No I just updated my Mac OS and it worked for me. What issue are you having?
Literally the same. Luckily I have found a solution. I had to contact CrossOver support with my logs and they suggested to create a new user on mac. With the new user - everything works great! And they told me that the issue is my username had a dot. However when I removed it - the issue was still there.
So yeah, a new clean user helps :)
Hey Andrew, performance seems pretty good but it seems theres a bit of shader issue with grass/etc. Any idea on fixing this? Otherwise I think it is nearly perfect!

Unfortunately for me, it didn't work. While running Palworld with -dx12 argument through Steam, I get an error:
"DX12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument."
Bottle system: Windows 10, D3DMetal enabled, Crossover latest version 23.7.1
Solved by using Windows 11 instead of Windows 10 64-bit

on an m1 pro 16gb RAM; 1 TB. Repeated steps exactly as you mentioned except I downloaded Steam via Whisky. Game keeps crashing after 5-15 minutes, anyone know how to fix this?

You have to enable the Terminal command before opening CrossOver.

It says expression: “!status”
Switched to windows 11 cause i saw that helped people in the comments.
Doesn’t work for me either. This time no error just says “running” - never shows up, then closes itself after 5 mins

Has anyone tried this game on the M3 pro? I have seen it running on the max But I have the base pro with 18 gigs ram 11 core cpu and 14 core gpu. Wondering what I can expect from this game.
it works pretty alright without the mods on low-mid settings with native resolution ( haven't had seen the video yet), but it drained my battery insanly fast. Like from 100% to 0% within 1,5h. The first 30 minutes were pretty laggy, but im assuming it was building shader cache in the background. After that it ran fine though 60fps / correct shaders, etc.
But I have the 18 core GPU variant, so your mileage may vary.

If you have 16GB of RAM it'll run 'okay' on M1 chip, but I'd recommend at least a M1 Pro to be honest.

it can run 60fps sometimes but it's better to cap it at 30 (i have alot of experience with games on nintendo switch so i dont know if anyone else can manage)

So I have an old Macbook, 2017 Macbook pro to be exact.
I can't open the game in any order of form... I click the "Play button, it turns into Quit button" 2 minutes go by and the "Quit button just turns back into Play button" As nothing ever happened, the game never opened... Any ideas? I btw can't use D3dmetal since 2020 and earlier macbooks are Intel supported.
Only thing you can do is try to update to Mac OS Sonoma, that got D3D working for me
You should just install a windows bootcamp partition. M series can’t run native windows but 2017 can.
The thing is 2017 mb pro doesn’t have a chipset at all, so does that matter?

Make sure you crossover wine configuration is set to Windows 11. Then turn of M-Sync until Palworld is downloaded. Worked for me after these changes

Yes it should be okay about 30-40 FPS is my estimate using my tweaks.
im running the game on my macbook air 15" with 8GB RAM like you said with dx12 enabled and its getting even worse :/ with dx12 I have roughly 7-10 FPS without im on 15FPS and have constant drops to 0 FPS am I doing something wrong or is 8GB RAM the bottleneck?@@Andytizer and yes im using crossover with msync and D3DMetal enabled. Since I switched the resolution to 1920 x 1080p its getting better, before that I run it on 1280 x 720 in window mode, but not playable at all. Of course the graphics settings are at the lowest

Sadly this doesnt work on macbook air m1 8gb . My whole system freezes when going in-game
NexusMod has just updated their files, on top of pasting those files into the directories, you have to start your game not using the Steam normal way, but an entire different .exe file stated in the .readme file. Tested it for myself, go check the readme file for the new exe

I'm a bit disappointed. I have a Macbook Air M1 with 16GB ram and I did all of this and it's still MAYBE 30FPS average and it dips to around 15. Also, the game will sometimes just lock up completely.
Sounds about right, m1 chip has the power of about a gtx 1050 and that's pal worlds minimum requirement, and then you're also running through translation layers

okay since i asked this question, i want to give my answer based on my experience. i use Mac M1 2020 8GB RAM (updated to Sonoma, since u need Sonoma OS to enable D3DMetal). basically almost the same as how the video told us. but i did play palworld for the first 15 minutes including testing all graphics. best performance was the lowest graphics, windowed with small window size (forgot the exact size), all applications closed except crossover, steam, and palworld but still a lil bit glitchy even tho it was still a tutorial stage, imagine the other features unlock or even multiplayer. Then, once i screen-shooted and then tried to open discord, my laptop was struggling and freezing for a few mins.
The conclusion is idk if u guys find any solutions for this, but i think i love my laptop compare to this game so im going to stop trying here😭

It works but I think we sacrifice a lot from graphics to make it playable. Did everything as you did, no issues at all but game sadly looks like an outdated game with these pixelated graphics.
