Allergies really kicked in in that intro 🤧 I forgot to mention that Platform has a cool thing in the back to hide your cables, as you can see I’m still rearranging and haven’t gotten to tucking them in yet, so... EMBRACE THE SPAGHETTI!!
Also jade you can fit a keyboard tray yo any desk!! ballbearing runners are cheap (as in good ones are only like $15 upwards!!) and readily available on ebay, amazon etc , i designed and built my own desk and it has one :)
dont know if you guys gives a damn but if you're bored like me atm you can stream all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother these days :)
The Output Desk is still an amazing contender and perfect solution for many. To me it gives you $2,000-$3,000 worth of studio space for a fraction of that. For space issues, I highly recommend printing or writing down all the specs, marking them off in your space with painters tape and getting a strong visual of this working in your home.
Great practical review of one of the better desks. I based by own modest design on this one. The plans are "Open Source". Just on that basis, this makes the business worth supporting if and when you have the means.
Yeah but it’s not that simple. You need to spend money on tools and spend time learning to do this shit. Most people do t have that time or money to buy tools and material and or a place to make it
@@DjSuperK I've built my own desk more or less modeled after 2000$ high end producer desks last week. I had some tools but I'd say between the screws, paint, solid wood, mine is all pine, and machines you can buy, borrow or rent with 300$ to 500$, you're good to go. It's not that hard. I was just dedicated and careful. Edit : I'm clumsy af and the furthest thing from an expert wood-worker. It was my 1st time doing sthg like that ever. I'm just lucky to have had enough space to do it.
It's soo interesting! You're the first person with radical views on the output desk. Everyone else, including myself, views their weaknesses as strengths, which would be perfect for me. But the fact that you put your opinion out there, means there must be others like you. For other producer friends, we like our screen there to see our midi input and plugins for piano or synth. And also I don't have another desk to place my keyboard on and having an under space actually is far more space-saving (so my other friends also agree) . Anyways, have a good one!
I am finally ready to make the jump to this desk. I’ve always been dawless to the point that I think it’s a detractor, and part of that is because I don’t have rack space in front of me to put some expansion I/O mainly to process sounds once I record into DAW. Keyboard tray is also huge plus, frees so much desk space. I debated for a while but I think I’ll bite the bullet
Thanks for the vid! Like you, I bought this (same finish) shortly after it came out and have really enjoyed it as the centerpiece of my studio. I do use the top shelf for monitors and an iMac, and a second monitor vertically mounted above the iMac screen. Also am using the 9u of space as follows: left side (Focusrite Clarett 8Pre, Focusrite Claret OctoPre, Samson S-Patch patchbay); center (Warm Audio TB-12 Tone Beast Preamp; iConnectivity Mio10 MIDI interface); right (1x Furman PL-PLUS DMC Power supply/conditioner; Musicians Gear MG900SC Power supply/conditioner). Because my desk is backed up to a wall/window, the patch bay and MIDI interface is really helpful because I don't have easy access to the back of the desk. Racking power and interface is also pretty convenient, and those are all connected to other things in the studio. My biggest pet peeve about the desk is that the keyboard tray has those really pointy corners in the center cutout, and I'm constantly banging my knees on them, which is really painful.
That's the problem a lot of us have. When you have a number of things, trying to get the perfect thing and put it in a place where it will stay...cause people like to move things after a period of time. Crazy as it sounds I was just as happy on my mv when I had it on a big box. It mean I could get close and it felt natural. And it was litterally a box. So sometimes (especially when size is an issue) we have to improvise and maybe it will never be perfect and i'm not going to lie that sucks lol.
I love it . The trouble is the more your space needs expand or contract, i suppose the mentality is . Everything needs and must fit. In reality it doesn't you just end up having to mod stuff as you did to skip being forced to completely upgrade.
One day I'll have enough space to spread all my gear out permanently...! Looks like a good workspace solution but that price tag! You could buy some great music kit with that money lol. Great honest review though to be fair. Glad to have discovered your channel, all the best, Andy
I had the same problem with the separators not sinking all the way into the grooves of the top piece for your monitors. Unlike the instructions, I connected the two separators to the upside down top, flipped it over and inserted that assembly of three pieces into the table piece.
It’s a beautiful desk. I’ve listed after it myself, but I’m also an apartment dweller and it’s just not practical. I would love, love, love if Output would consider making a small version (say, in the 47” wide neighborhood instead of the 60”). Thanks for the review and all that you do! Love the channel!
Here's another comment lol, I move my stuff around a lot too. I started on drums and used to always have a new set up, one thing I live about the drums. It's carried over to producing. What I like about it is it usually clears out my energy and provides a freshness to my approach. And of course sometimes it's by necessity too if I'm in a shared space lol - speaking of drums, no one ever lets the drummer have enough space! Hahaha!
Keyboard off to the side sucks big time because you lose workflow speed moving back and forth to the desk. Trays are almost mandatory assuming you use you keyboard fairly frequently.
Awesome vid! I change my setup all the time too, I get bored very easily... Just spent a day on it yesterday, got all my old synths finally wired in. Excellent review, love the look of the Output desks, just wish they had a slightly more orange teak-like version!
Thanks for the brutal honest review. I was looking for ways to save space, and while a piano drawer will work perfectly for that, I’ll be looking for a smaller design.
Nice video. Im looking to get a desk too to put in my bedroom. my apartment is small since I have a roommate. when you got your desk, did you put it together or did you have somebody else put it together?
Actually this video made me thinking about modifying my desk for music purposes. I could drill holes for cables an mount a rack system. It would be some handiwork required but even if I have no experience with wood. This could be totally worth it
Nice video Jade. I was looking for a proper desk for my small apartment and I found something similar to what you have, a bit smaller, but I have the same problem with the keyboard tray and my System 8 is going to be too tight. Would you mind explaining a bit how you expanded the space? I was thinking about doing something like that, but not sure how to do it, except for making new holes so I can have more space between the keyboard's controllers and the desk. Cheers!
@@JAdeWii_ yeah I think I´ll do the same, but I have to find the way to leave more room between the tray and the desk top. Between the upper line of controls on the System 8 and the desk there´s only 1 cm.
not sure if youll see this but the space at 3:02 isnt aligned because theyre upside down. just had the same issue with my desk i just got but realized that if you flip it over (flat side still in front) it should line up flush

All entrainment, social media, UA-cam and web search is all done from My Android tablet and phone. Maby you should do the same.
Hello. I appreciate your video on Platform use. I did not understand exactly what you did to modify your key tray. I am putting mine together now. My wish has always been that the key tray was a few inches WIDER. Did you widen your tray? Anyway I would appreciate knowing what you did.
Hi!!! I love your videos, I´ve been trying to reach you cuz I need an advice. Im a Dj but im trying to start live mix, currently I have 2 xdjs and a djm450 with a roland tr8. But I´ve been curious about the korg volca line. Since I dont have that much budget I'm considering selling the tr8 and buy volca kick + volca sample + volca fm maybe with a roland tr6s. Any advice?
Nice desk Jade. I have only ever used a laptop. Just mainly for firmware updates. Plus my Modal Synths have a really cool program I use on the laptop. It unlocks loads more features and is very easy to use. I have never made music on the computer. I pretty much hate those programs that seem to cost more than the real hardware. I can't get my head round the people who spend hundreds on computer software. Nuts 😊
Dear Jade, can you please help me? I am trying to copy that desk and build it by myself) the only problem is that I can't find dimensions of the tray - height from main desk till tray and dimensions of cutout (length and depth). Could you please check it for me?
Hello Dawless Jammin', we are creators too, recently my wife asked me to build her a platform desk out of walnut. Would you like to join forces and make a video together? We will make you a custom wooden piece for promoting our wooden desk, and if we could promote your music on our page, we could possibly do a Zoom video together. What do you think?

It should be mentioned that, with novice woodworking skills, this desk can be built for less than half of the retail price! 🤘🏻
Yeah just added a keyboard tray to an existing desk myself with little effort.

Hey, instead of using the 4 screws I just used the 2 bottom holes and let the others hang- but tbh this makes the tray too low for comfortable playing
Thank u real helpful🙏🏾
How’s it going with the maschine+ ? Can’t wait for your take on it. I’m already a little GAS’d on it.
What is the width of the space of the keyboard tray before you modified it?? Would an Akai MPK249 fit there without the modification?
I ordered a Platform desk like 3 weeks ago, but sadly there is quite a long waiting line nowadays - 14-16 weeks.
Due to the current situation.

The top of mine doesnt align perfectly either, has that tiny gap just like yours but its still perfect and super sturdy
Flip the side panels so the points faces you
So I saw they increased the price by $150. Given that the price of wood has actually gone down this year thats a ripoff
Freight prices have increased 35% in the past year. So not really…
