Personally i dislike hammerdins for a few reasons, i dont dislike the paladin though just the hammerdin type paladin. I found them very boring to play, their kill speed is rather slow and its annoying too but the worst offense they have ever committed is thinking they can do pvp. I did a lot of pvp and ohhh my god the number of mf hammerdins in those games just drove me mad. First of all they sucked at pvp, second there were so many of them, third they were almost all cowards, fourth they had no concept of how to actually do pvp like for example learning how to tele-stomp. They are very tanky and they are strong with weak gear that is their main strength. They can do pretty well with just a lore helm, spirit shield, spirit mainhand, +2 pala combat amu and whatever gear they please for chest, belt, boots and rings. Then over time they find stuff and trade, until they have torch, anni, enigma, arach, shako, 2 sojs, maras, hoto and cta and all of a sudden they believe they can do pvp which they cant. Very strong for pve but a bit slow compared to other characters especially a well geared sorc which kills enemies a lot quicker, but costs a lot more to build. But my main problem with them is that they think they can do pvp just because they are strong in pve. There are good pvp hammerdins but not that many of them, the first skill they need is tele-stomp, then they need to learn some tactics and exploit their innate tankiness.
Smite, guilleams, draculs + whatever else you might fancy. That is literally all you need for ubers if you are willing to overcap your light res vs mephisto. rare everything else works just fine. Just find a smite build and you can kill ubers all day long without any problems. First upgrade after that would be enigma.
