4 Things I WISH I Knew Before COLLEGE! (Brutal Honesty From A Weeb 😉)

- Last Semester, I finished my time in college at Penn State. It was quite short, ~2.5 years. While I thought it was not bad, here are 4 things that I wish I knew before starting. Now these aren't gonna be tips like, oh get a credit card or something. They're more like things I observed about people as a whole and what a high achieving person, or low achieving person, can do to make their experience more enjoyable. It also includes my short take on partying and the like (which legally I do not do). Personally, I think the last tip is the most important one. But once again, just my opinions, not to be taken as fact.
Also, when I say relationships are more important than location, I mean just relationships with people as a whole, not like, romantic ones. Idk anything about romantic ones.

If you go to community college during your Highschool years you graduate with an Associate’s degree which means you only need 2 more years from another college to get a bachelors degree

I'm in my first year of college and I want to try to get out of my comfort zone, but I don't know how to really connect with people in my dorm. It just feels exhausting to think about creating connections at this point.

1st semester. I graduated high school a semester early, and came in during the spring. Everyone else in my dorm are 1st year who been here since fall. They had a “Welcome Week” and I’m just alone figuring things out

if you can try to become a community leader/member with reslife or see if there are reslife initiatives to do events in your dorm, like movie nights or pizza and gaming. It helps get your foot in the door and connect with others.
Watch anime for 24 hours straight
In my University, fastest graduation is 3.5 years (avg is 4.7 I guess) and that man became Prime Minister of the country.

In my uni you're expected to complete your bachelors (BSc) in 3 years and do a 1.5-2 year master (MSc) right after

It depends on what college study you're taking, he might be taking one that's possible to finish in less than 3 years, IMO CS is not easy to even get finished in 3-4 years (because there's a lot of things you've to learn and practice).
That's easy - one of the courses was doubly recursive.
Bc of covid I'll most likely be spending 4.5-5 years in school with 1 year that I spent in community college. 🙃

Thanks for posting your videos. I'm 20 (I think we're the same age) and I haven't had the opportunity to start college, my country situation (I'm from Venezuela) always gets in the way. I'll try to apply to a Scholarship in other country, I know this may not has to do anything with the video but, all your videos and animedoro has help me to get going and not give up my dream to study. That 2nd thing resonates with me so much. I applied to be a committee in a campus organization and turns out each newcomers is in charge of one project. I was very surprised and also terrified, since I've never really been in charge of anything. I was expecting more of an "errand girl" type of job than an actual "you are responsible for this event right here". It's honestly stressing me out lol. But your words gave me comfort, so thank you for that :)

Lab work is lonely work, especially these days. I feel like it's harder to get to know people in a research setting than in a class because our interactions are more like ships in the night
I wondered why there were so few comments... and then I realized how fresh this upload is. :O
I struggle with loneliness, which Is something new for me. Probably because being alone for the rest of my senior year of HS made me yearn for social connections. The problem is, I am always alone and had no problem with it before, so I have no idea how to make friends. College starts in August this year, so I hope that I could meet some friends.

Just started University and this came at the perfect time! Studying law and I feel absolutely lost already after my first week. So many new things to learn, different modes of teaching and an abundance of reading to get through. Still figuring out how to schedule things and stay on top of the workload :0
everything you said was so relevant to me. I love the part about how we shouldn't always delay gratification. I like the grind too, but this was a nice reminder that the grind isn't everything. the destination is often underwhelming, so why not enjoy the journey while we're at it :)

Thanks for the video! This really had me thinking as a freshman I keep thinking about switching majors several times. That I'm so caught up with it, I didn't even realized I shunned my friends' invitations because all I think about is how am I get a good job I like right after I graduate without wasting any time.

Can u make a video of how you study? I started studying chemical engineering and I don't know how to study. There are so many courses. As soon as I started university during the pandemic my motivation vanished. I didnt really follow lectures, I havent studied and I havent given even 1 exam because every time I start studying I feeling like its gonna be for nothing and I might as well dont, but the guilt every time I wake up or go to bed is just unberable, and I dont know what to do since I have to basically do the last AND the current semester...
Omo i relate to this. I will just mention a few tips that helped me. I always thought i need to have motivation or inspiration to read and all but i got to realize i need discipline( i procrastinate a lot). I kinda started to channel that feeling of guilt to reading eg am about to sleep the thought comes "you have tests coming up you will fail" normally i ignore but recently go on youtube or checkout a memepage ( i love memes) on something i want to read. As i gain little knowledge and trick my brain😂 into thinking "yo at least she is learning something" from there i decide to go further and maybe read a page of my textbook maybe 2
Then i sleep ( i wont feel that guilty again ) as time goes by i begin to increase what i read and find it interesting. Its better to put in little little work than nothing at all. I also report my progress to my friend he asks questions encourages me and also shares what he read. I recently just started this and what made me realize that motivation isn't my problem that i have to discipline myself is a youtube video i watched @kortyeo i can share the link if interested😊. Dont be too hard on yourself too
Sorry this is so long. What you are studying wont be for nothing you can find people that are studying the same thing with you maybe the drive to study will come back. I hope all this helps🙈
