This video was so empowering you have no idea. I have felt for so long unfeminine and like an imposter! I'm very rectangle, lean, and flat chested. I've always wanted to be feminine but never felt that way. Never felt beautiful in anything. And all the styling was "here's how to change your body into an hourglass" which was always kind of depressing. But to have the option to do that OR embrace my natural shape and lean into it is so liberating. I've never heard "yes let's rock that rectangle body" it was always "let's hide and change that rectangle body". I'm just learning but this video was so full of compassion, love, and useful knowledge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤
This explains SO much of my wardrobe choices now- I wasn’t ever sure what body type I was until this year after I took all my measurements and followed the formula mathematically. And after watching this video, I am grateful to know and understand *why* I have a stash of belts and wear a belt with nearly everything, why I adore dresses (fit and flare, empire waist, peasant top), why I love shorter skirts (I love to show my legs), and tops with lace or ruffle detail. This is so empowering to understand!
Oh man, I love crop tops and high waist straight leg jeans lol. But I do try to create more curve with puff sleeves or wrap style (if it's cropped) and I get that waist up high in my jeans so it looks like I have one! These were great tips! Thank you!
Thank you! This was extremely helpful. I wonder if you have tips for rectangle midsized shapes like size 10-12 as well.😅 But i can already see this vid is mostly applicable too. Just constantly digging thru vids to that have more attention to all my fellow midsized rectangle sisters out here 🙏🏻
This is me too! My shoulders are really broad so I thought I was an inverted triangle, but my bust and hip measurements are similar, and my waist isn't defined :')
Thank you, this has been really helpful! I love how you gave options for those who didnt want to necessarily emulate the hourglass and keep the rectangle, i feel like a lot of the other videos i saw focus mostly on trying to get your body to look as hourglass as possible, so this was so nice to see!
I’m definitely a rectangle. I’ve always felt boxy and that my waist always just ran straight down to my hips with no curves. This really helps me know what to look for when shopping! Thank you!
I am late to the party, so this might not even be seen. But on the off chance that it is. I laughed when you talked about bras, and having had children, when you know you know. Indeed. I think though that there is a difference between long waisted rectangles, and short waisted rectangles. And of course not all of us have flatter chests. I find my particular rectangle difficult to dress. I am an athlete, slim and quite muscular, short waisted, only 5'5. Belts aren't always great on us short waisted folk. What I will say is that it's nice to hear nice things said about a less waist curvy figure. Thank you for that.
I always thought I was hourglass because I've always had a waist. But I recently took my measurements and typed them into a body type calculator and apparently I'm a rectangle, which doesn't surprise because my mom and my sisters are obvious rectangles. My middle has grown by 3 inches after 2 babies, so if I lost the baby weight I'd probably be hourglass, but if I lost even more weight I'd go back to a rectangle which I now believe is my natural shape. 🙂
I was so excited to see a style video on my body type that had a section wanting to ACCENTUATE it and not change it, BUT ALAS! You STILL managed to tell me that my boxy body shouldn't be what I go for. Are there no style guides on the internet that celebrate my boyish, boxy, straight, uncurvy, unaccentuated and rectangular body? Cause I actually quite LIKE my "unfeminine" body! Shocker I know! I'm sorry that you had to be the one to get this comment, but I have now hunted for one to many a night, I really thought the hunt was over, but onwards I go: into the never-ending sea of lying body-positive style guides.
Thank you so much for the positive way you spoke on this body type!! Just hearing it made me feel relaxed! Helped me view many of the pieces I already have with confidence, but also excited to try a couple new things!
Thank you for those tips. Especially for the part where we want to accentuate our body type and not necessarily make it curvier. Also, picking the right bra is very important indeed. Enjoyed every bit of this video :)
I guess I'm a rectangle. I have sloping shoulders though and I'm short, but my measurements are pretty much the same. Waist only slightly smaller. Because I'm short I prefer bottoms that don't flare though occasionally I'll wear an A line skirt.
I have a rectangular body but it’s like a curvy rectangular body. My my bust is 35, my waist is a 28, and my hips are 36 for reference, so I’m nearly an hourglass. And thought I was for awhile. Bodies are confuzzling...
I randomly found this gem in my recommended section and I'm so glad I did! I'm a rectangle body shape. Most of the pieces that you talked about is what I found has been working for me before. I have to say goodbye to a few (crop tops), but that just means I have room for 'BELTS!!!' to my shopping list. Thank you!
Great helpful video, thank you very much. Honestly, thank you, you made me feel good about my rectangular body type first time ever. What is more precious about making someone feel good about themselves? I loved how you said, play with the "rectangle" or add curves to it.
Omg 😳 I just noticed I’m a rectangle shape body and this video was so helpful. I love belts but don’t know how to style them and I see that it’s an important accessory to have for my shape. Is it possible to help with this? Do you have a video to explain how to belt clothing? Thanks 😊
Omg this video is amazing! I've been trying to figure out how to find flattering clothes because of the saying "wear the clothes, don't let them wear you." I always thought I was hourglass shaped, but I guess my mild scoliosis led me to believe that? This video was very helpful, thank you so much!
I'm definitely a rectangle - 6' tall and 140 lbs. I'm not sure these recommendations work for me, though. When I wear ruffles I look like a man in drag - so awkward. When i wear tight fitting jeans I look awful because it only accentuates how tall and angular I am. I try to keep it simple. Layers work. I've also recently started getting my clothes tailored. Tailored clothes are expensive up front but I think I'm saving money because I'm not ending up with a bunch of clothes I don't wear or feel uncomfortable in.
hi there, i LOVE your personality !! this video was so insightful , the only problem I have with my body type is probably that even though I'm categorized in the athletic rectangle body type, I'm a bit busty haha even though I guess I'm proportionate? I'm 38 in the bust area and 40 in my hips! i try to stay away from accentuating my bust area while still trying to be fashionable , any advice ? :)
Do you have any leggings suggestions? I’ve seen so many videos on rectangular body fashion and none seem to hit on leggings and makes me think maybe that’s a no no for our body type…😭😭😭 also for plus size celebrity examples.
Thank you for great explanation. I think I'm a rectangle but I'm not sure because I also have short torso and belts dont work well on me. My mesurments: Shoulders 38 Bust 38 Waist 33 Hips 40.
Hi Lidia! From your measurements alone, it appears your are a combo- triangle and maybe a little rectangular (although it's tough to tell without a photo). Regardless, you should be working to define your waist and then accentuate your shoulders to balance them out. Hope that helps!
Your measurements are pretty much me right now. When i gain a lot of extra weight i turn into an apple, i then become a triangle, followed by now a rectangular and at lowest weight an inverted triangle. My hips lose the most (42 to 34) my waist doesn't get lower than 27 inches and 36/37 bust.
Another good example for rectange body shape is Mila Kunis. I think people put her in different groups cause she's short but your body shape is not indicative of your height or weight necessarily.
Oh my yes ajajaja i gain weight in my hips, butt and breast. And its a little frustrating 'cause i need to buy new pants and new tops when i gain or lose weight
Hi Amy! It depends on the look you're going for. If you want curves then go for a skinny or flared pant. If you want to accentuate your straight features, then BF are a good option! For me, it just depends on the day! Right?
Hi Anna! The greatest part of having your body shape is that nearly every jean style will look good on you! If you want to appear taller, then I would play with shape and flare in your pants. A high-waisted flared pant is going to help you appear taller than a cropped skinny or slim pant. Does that help?
Technically yes. Some calculations for body shapes are a bit extreme saying that you need 10” difference to be an hourglass but realistically the difference between hourglass and rectangle is 8”
I have been twice cursed with a rectangle body, a super short torso, and big boobs. No matter how I try to style belts or wrapped shirts or anything that brings the waist in...it always sits directly under my boobs. Like I literally have three inches between the bottom of my boobs and my belly button. My bottom rib and my hip bone have like an inch of clearance. I try not to hate my body because it is strong and healthy but god dammit sometimes I feel like a little hobbling goblin.
I have all of that too... AND I'm 5'9" so it's so difficult for me to find clothes that flatter! Every time I hear "emphasize your waist" I think.... what waist?! Tucking in looks bad as do belts... I feel your pain!
Mam I hv checked body type calculator...I feel I'm pear shape with tummy...with curviness downwards...but it shows am 0.9 ratio... rectangle...but am not lean..my bmi is overweight in upper limit...wats ur opinion???1

Hi Ankita! Can you please measure your shoulders all the way around? The number should be in the 30s. You can check out my first Body Shape video for reference!
Hi Angela! When you’re a rectangle, you can choose to either 1) play up your long lean lines, or 2) define your waist. You’re right that you can’t do both at the same time.
If you're petite, I'd recommend staying away from flared pants and heavy emphasis on your sleeves. It'll drown your figure. Instead stick to more tailored clothes!
Oh my goodness. I think I was deceived. Since I have always been busty and have fat on my tummy I thought I was an apple or hourglass but my measurements when skinny were 32-28-32 and now that I have baby weight I am 40-34-40. So I'm more of a rectangle right? A lot of these styles are what looks good. Not all of these styles work because the large chest has to be considered.
I like your video, but I have to say that bust size is independent of body type, it doesn’t depend on it, nor does it correlate at all. In this respect, it’s similar to the roundness of the butt, or size of the thighs, any shape can have a rounder or flatter bottom, or fuller or slimmer thighs. It’s the proportions of shoulders, waist and hips that determine body type. Bust size (natural) is determined by genetics and to a lesser extent, by BMI. Rectangle shapes can vary from an A- cup to an I+ (is that still the largest, or am I out-of-date?).

If you are petite... meaning short & you have a rectangle body & a short waist (& long legs & arms) most of this info will not work nicely . Especially belts !

The best part of this was finding out I have the same body shape as Kate Middleton! Score!! Also, ADORE that pink top!
Um... YESSSS!
I feel like I'm an inverted triangle or rectangle. I can't tell, either way, these videos on both of them make me feel more confident.
Thank you!
Saaammee i wish i could figure out which one i am
Why don't u check online...u can search it up body shape calculator
Me too. Large shoulders. Straight up and down otherwise.
This is me too! My shoulders are really broad so I thought I was an inverted triangle, but my bust and hip measurements are similar, and my waist isn't defined :')

More on tops please. Tunics with pants. Different jacket lengths. Do all shirts end directly at waist for most flattering look? Peplum?
I'm a rectangle with extremely broad shoulders, so usually I guess I would combine the tips for inverted triangle and rectangle?
Yes! Exactly
I’m definitely a rectangle. I’ve always felt boxy and that my waist always just ran straight down to my hips with no curves. This really helps me know what to look for when shopping! Thank you!

I’m built like Cameron Diaz, tall and athletic (although I’m not that great at sports 😂) and I found this video very helpful!
Great to hear!
Thank you for those tips. Especially for the part where we want to accentuate our body type and not necessarily make it curvier. Also, picking the right bra is very important indeed. Enjoyed every bit of this video :)

Same I thought I was and inverted triangle because of my bust size which is a 34D but I’m really skinny so that’s the only big thing I have 😅
Same actually, I’m “thicker” so my proportions are: bust is 44, my waist is 36 and my hips are 43, so I’m always told I look very hourglassy
Omg my exact measurements! I'm 5 foot 3 inches, and my shoulders are 39 inches. I'm a fleshy rectangle too 😄👍
@LaLa D. you are triangle 😇👍
MJade Yo I’m 5’3 too!! Have no idea about my shoulders though
thank you...I find myself agreeing with you quite much....fit and flares are my faves

Hey Sage! Feel free to DM me your measurements on my IG!
I LOVE THIS! Just made my life easier
I’m so happy to hear that!
Loved loved this video! Thank you!!
Thank you!
Fantastic video! Wish I learned all of this at 16!
You and me both! xx
What do you do if you are a rectangle shape, but have a larger bust? However, my hips/butt aren't.
Thank you for great explanation. I think I'm a rectangle but I'm not sure because I also have short torso and belts dont work well on me.

Should my rectangle bod avoid boyfriend jeans? Seems too straight .... am I right? I’m just learning!
Hi Amy! It depends on the look you're going for. If you want curves then go for a skinny or flared pant. If you want to accentuate your straight features, then BF are a good option! For me, it just depends on the day! Right?
I am a cylinder. I don't have a long lean body like Kate Middleton and Cameron Diaz. Help!
If I work on my body it can be Dorito triangle thing but if I loosen up I could turn into a triangle I’m in between
Dorito Triangle! Hahaha Now I’m hungry
what about an off the shoulder dress or blouse? I am rectangular shape and i love off the shoulder tops, dresses.
That would be beautiful!! And help with creating visual curves
The video was all I needed
So happy it’s helpful!
Will slim jeans look good on rectangle body shapes? And is there any way to give the illusion that I’m taller? Thanks :D
Hi Anna! The greatest part of having your body shape is that nearly every jean style will look good on you! If you want to appear taller, then I would play with shape and flare in your pants. A high-waisted flared pant is going to help you appear taller than a cropped skinny or slim pant. Does that help?
Casey Matheny yes, thank you so much! I highly appreciate it :>
Am I a rectangle? My measurements are 46 inches (bust) 39 inches (waist) and 45 inches (hips)
HI! What's your shoulder measurement?
45 inches
Technically yes. Some calculations for body shapes are a bit extreme saying that you need 10” difference to be an hourglass but realistically the difference between hourglass and rectangle is 8”
Does Zendaya have a rectangle body shape?
Looking up her measurements online, it appears she has more of an hourglass.
@@CaseyMatheny thank you so muchh

@@mooomuuuo oh you too have a broad shoulders😀
Hi Ankita! Can you please measure your shoulders all the way around? The number should be in the 30s. You can check out my first Body Shape video for reference!
@@CaseyMatheny shoulders are 39-40
Thanks! You’re measuring as an Inverted Triangle.
I’ve found through my measurements, I’m a fat, curvy rectangle 😂
Very confused how you play up the long lean lines (in your words forget the waist rule #1) but at the same time define your waist. Isn’t that rule #2?
Hi Angela! When you’re a rectangle, you can choose to either 1) play up your long lean lines, or 2) define your waist. You’re right that you can’t do both at the same time.
I'm 4'9 and a rectangle body. I look like I'm drowning whenever I wear flared sleeves and pants.
What about torso to leg ratio❓ None of you people address that.
What year are we in? 1800? No, wear what you want. Your waist doesn’t have to be 10 inches. You’re human. You wear the crop top if you want.
Lol!! If I wear a crop top, I feel like a 23” tall banana 😆
I'm a spoon rectangle thing, i hate my thighs honestly but I'm glad I'm not that curvy lmao
i hate how our body shape will tell us how to dress because i have my own aesthetic style that i want to wear :/
most are crop tops with high waist skirts, shorts or jeans, oversized hoodies usually fit me a lot
You do you! These are only suggestions based on having a balanced silhouette.
It’s not at all easy to find clothes that fit, much less flatter, my rectangular shape.
I hope this video helps a bit xx
If you are petite... meaning short & you have a rectangle body & a short waist (& long legs & arms) most of this info will not work nicely . Especially belts !
Can’t for the life of me wear skinny jeans because accentuating straight hips and boxy waist is not a look
Why do millennials think it’s ok to say “these ones”. Practice saying only “these”.
