Because the tonal characteristics of the wood are extremely minor and insignificant when compared to the electromagnetic characteristics of the strings, magnets, windings, coil gauge. I explain it all in the video. Also, I wasn’t doing a side by side pickup comparison, I was doing a single coil guitar comparison.
Hi. I didn't test the Guyker jazzmaster pickups in a guitar... after seeing that it was constructed like a P90, I didn't want to drop that into my Fender Custom Shop Jazzmaster! My guess is that they will not be as bright on the high-end as a 'normal' jazzmaster pickup, because the coil winding was wider and flatter, lust like a P90.
You did an exceptional high quality analysis on this topic. Just what I was looking for. I was wondering if a Les Paul can sound like a Stratocaster if the LP will fitted with single coil strat pickups. I did not know about the P90 pickups and guitar. They will be close to the strat pickups I guess. I have also an electronics engineering background, so I'm also interested in the electronic mechanics of a guitar.
Thanks for the feedback… it took a long time to put the video together, but I enjoyed learning about it myself! The results were very interesting! Maybe my next video should be a LP with humbuckers vs. LP with P90’s, vs. SSH strat!
@@KersyMusic Hi Kersy, fitting a les Paul with single coil strat pickups would be an interesting experiment, never seen some one doing that. But i have seen lots of stratocasters fitted with all kinds of hamburgers to get a fetther sustaining sound. The experiment would prove if the typical strat sound is produced from more then only the single coil pickups.
Extensive work and very well presented. I learned a lot PS: I was so single-coil-illiterate I actually thought Jazzmasters had P90s (shame). To answer the question: a Tele is definitely my next single coil acquisition.
Thanks! I thought the same about P90’s and Jazzmasters at first. Huge difference though! Good choice on the Tele! Lots of options with those also that can make a big difference!
The V Mod Jazzmaster pickups don't look like vintage Jazzmaster pickups to me. Jazzmaster pickups shouldn't be tall like that, nor narrow. They should be wide and flat, like the P90, but maybe even moreso. Like an Oreo cookie, the winding is the filling and it should go right to the edge. V Mod is some kind of weird abomination, and they don't even sound much like true Jazzmaster pickups to me, more like Strat pickups, which isn't surprising, since they look to be wound more like a Strat pickup than a Jazzmaster pickup.
@@KersyMusic I did watch your full video, and it was overall very good. At 8:00 you show them side-by-side and the Jazzmaster pickup doesn't look like a Jazzmaster pickup, other than the wide bobbin. Vintage pickups will be like half as tall, and wound close or to the edge of the bobbin.
what an interesting video. thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Great video. You seemed to have avoided all the mistakes people usually make trying to compare tones and gave some great info.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
Amazing job you deserve much more views
Thank you… fortunately I love what I do, the views are secondary, and the income is zero 🤣
@@KersyMusic I just can’t understand how could you compare the frequency characteristics of pickups when they are on quite a different wood

Exceptional!
Thank you!!
Awesome!! Did you test the Guyker jazzmaster (p90) pick up? Did you like it?

Kersy this video is so good.
Thank you! 200hrs of work - no exaggeration! 🙄😂

Sorry about my previous comments. I have lack of impulse control!
I hadn’t noticed… all good 👍

In the video I show the internals of the V Mod and they are wider and flatter than the P90’s, like you said

What does that mean?
