    Coco was definitely the star of this video. As soon as I saw him I thought how long until he knocks something off the desk...and then...what a hoot. Cats are such A joy!!! And so creative in the way they let us know they want attention...great video Chris!

      LOL Coco is the most attention seeking cat I've ever lived with! I've been happy that he is learning to play/exercise with an interactive mouse on a string that I made ... I never realized how agile he actually is ... now if I can get him trimmed down of a few pounds!!!! :)

    1. Memorable ink: Park Penman Sapphire, 2. Favorite bottle: Pilot Iroshizuku and Caran D'Ache. 3. Good ink but not for everyday use: One of several Diamine Inkvent sheening shimmery blues with red sheen and shimmer. 4. Discover new inks? UA-cam, Discord 5. Inks for other than writing? No, not really - or does swatching count? 6. I hoarded Park Penman Sappphire for a while -- I had bottles of the ink until about 2014 or so . There's some Wearingeul inks that I with I had got extra bottle of. 7. What ink in what pen? Process? When a pen runs out, I clean it and select an another pen to ink. Sometimes matchy matchy but often I choose so that I have a reasonably wide section of colors in inked pens. 8. Ink samples?? Not much. 9. Popular ink that should but don't like: Washable blues, Underhyped ink that I like: Some of the Caran D''Ache, Organics Studio Walden Pond, Ink Studio 931, Birmingham Pen Co Emerald Fusion, Taccia Submidori. 10: I usually (unless it's a disaster) write until pen uses up all its ink.11. Most unique ink: Some of the Diamine Inkvent Christmas inks. KWZ Sheen Machine Noodlers Baystate Blue Birmingham Emerald Fusion: dark green with bright green sheen. 12. Catalog, Store, etc, I have notebooks with swatches, a notebook with list of pens inked (and when) and cleaned (and when). One day I'll do FPC. Store? Various clear storage boxed that stack. Inks stored in their boxes. 13. Maybe blue, but I like oranges, and greens and reds and teals and turquoises -- and I love blurples. If I have to say one, I'll pick teal.14: Ink syringe, good paper, bulb syringe -- recently I really like the Schon DSGN syringe pen cleaners. 15. Mixed inks or used shimmer additives: Not yet. 16. Favorite ink delivery: Eyedropper, Vacuum Fill, Cartridge Converter. 17: Inks excited about now: Diamine Arctic Blast, Solar Storm. Kuetake Shikon, Scribe Indigo (small batch ink by the chemist who created Parker Penman Sapphire) DeAtrementis Fuchsia, Birmingham Pen Co Ambered Adobe, Emerald Fusion, Heron, Wearingeul Human Issue, Infinite Cube, Peter Pan, Tock Tok Croc, Sailor Shikiori Yodaki, Miruai, tokiwa-uguisu, many others...

      Hi friend! Oh yes I thought about the Akkerman bottle ... I still have my SBRE Akkerman bottle ... it's unique and I love it in my overall bottle collection ... it just doesn't make the top 3 of my ink bottles but it's up there in the top 5. I think I had the marble fly out once by accident but that's on me lol. :) Right now the bottle is empty and I think I need to create some colorful ink water for it!!!!

    A very enjoyable video, Chris! I agree that the Faber Castell ink bottle is a winner and I've purchased a few empty ones myself. Another favorite is the Pilot Iroshizuku bottle -- beautiful glass with a heavy clear base like the Faber Castell and Pelikan Edelstein bottles. And I love the little divot at the bottom of the Iroshizuku bottle. I'm on the fence about the new Lamy Dark Lilac -- it appears to have so much sheen that the base color doesn't show -- so I'm looking forward to your comparison including Diamine Pansy (which I have).

    • @ChrisSaenz13
      @ChrisSaenz13  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Marilyn -- the sheen interferes in splatters and swatches and in writing samples it isn't quite as overpowering on some papers ... it does appear to lighten the overall color just a tad but I like it on Midori and Graphilo ... I need to try it on Clairfontaine. On Tomoe River paper the sheen is fairly prominent but still the writing looks good in my opinion. I just prefer how it looks on those other papers. I'll have to get busy and make some sample papers ... most of my experiments have been actual letters I wrote. :)

    Great show, Chris! I liked hearing you opinions on the varieties of inks. Waterman inks work very well, and Tender Purple is among my favorites. As far as favorite bottle designs, Pilot Iroshizuku bottles embody a unique combination of form and function.Waterman bottles are cool, both in their design, and the fact that they can rest at a forty-five degree angle when they are low on ink. It was nice to see Coco, your guest host 🙂

    i don't own enough bottles to really warrant filling out a tag, but here are some underrated mentions:
    Robert Oster Sydney Lavender - not advertised as a chromashader but is! Sadly goes on super grey on TR, but shades in a beautiful purple to blue on Midori.
    Sailor Ink Studio 931, 935, 950 - Three incredible ultrasaturated colours for the purple and magenta crowd.
    Diamine Eau de Nil - I find it an underrated blue within their lineup because it's got such a great balance of brightness and softness, it's a lovely uplifting colour that doesn't strain tired eyes.

    • @ChrisSaenz13
      @ChrisSaenz13  6 місяців тому +1

      It's so interesting how the inks behave differently on different paper! I noticed sadly, Lamy Dark Lilac 2024 sheens more on Tomoe River paper but at least it doesn't do that as much on Midori or Graphilo. :)

  • @StaticCling99

    With the Noodlers Apache/Southwest Sunset, it is not your fault. The guy running it doesn't believe in standardization between batches, so quality control is as a result sketchy. You likely have an inferior batch.

      I love so many of the Noodler's inks! Plus I wanted to love this one ... maybe in the right nib I will like it or can find an ink to add to it to darken it just enough!!!! :)

    • @Oldnose63
      @Oldnose63 6 місяців тому

      I’m thinking of adding another colour like dark brown, dark red or even purple.
      Ever since SBRE Brown reviewed it years ago I wanted it.
      Then I got it and now I try it in a new pen, gets flushed and stays on the shelf. For years on. It’s so light and feathery. Can’t use it in any situation.
      Selling it is also an option.

      Hi @kan-zee -- this looks like the final exam of fountain pens lol. :) I have answers but maybe even more questions because of the variety of results I've gotten from the variety of nibs and inks I've experimented with. It's so interesting -- these are great questions and they address something even bigger that I've been thinking about for years in regards to this hobby ..... and that is: are there any generalizations that hold true? AND ... how specific does one need to be when making claims about ink and paper especially ... ! Lets see if I get the proper time to address these ... they are interesting for sure. I wish I believed there were absolute right and wrong answers for these but I predict that OPINION and SPECIFIC examples are really all I have to offer. I've been led down the garden path by claims of paper and inks that do or don't do certain things ... only to find out that it's not that simple. :)

      Correct answer...you get 110% grade . !! 😍👍
      What is interesting in my short 2 month experimentation, of working with fountain pen ink and paper...I am coming to realize , that their is a sweet spot ....where a particular ink company, works great with a paper making company...I've yet to figure this formula out...and eventually after a while...when I do...
      I discover a new ink company (color) and have to find a new paper , that fits with my specifications..lol It's a never ending experimentation path..LOL

      @@kan-zee LOL -- this may explain my recent loyalty to Tomoe River Paper (both weights) and CVS Caliber paper ... they are papers I know and I have inks + nibs that work so well with them ... at first I thought it was laziness + pure economy/cheapness that I was beginning to stay within the paper and inks I know best but it's really so much less frustrating. I guess when it comes to Tomoe River paper I find a wider range of inks I'm happy writing letters on with that than any other paper. You've really got me thinking about this subject though and I came back this morning to look at the questions again and found your reply lol. :)

    Loved the video. Thank you! I have purchased quite a few "neutral" pens so I can fill them with whatever ink I'd like to use: A white silver Lamy AL-star & a Vista black; Kaweco AL Sport in silver; two clear TWSBI ECO-Ts, a Diamond 580ALR in silver, a Mini AL in silver, a Vac Mini in smoke. I don't have a single yellow, orange, or black ink, nor any yellow-greens. I have quite a few reds and pinks, six in the purple family, mostly blue-leaning, 2 browns, and single gray. My favorite ink colors are blues and greens the inks that inhabit the space between blue and green. Diamine Soft Mint looks spectacular in the Vac Mini. Of all your teal inks which is your favorite that leans more green than blue?

      Thank you. I am trying not to purchase any more near duplicates - Lamy Crystal Amazonite and Private Reserve Blue Suede are so similar in writing that they're almost impossible to distinguish from one other. In the swatch, the Lamy ink has a bit more red sheen, but both show sheen in writing on some papers. I will be fixed for medium turquoise ink for the rest of my life!
