I love when Nancy at the end of her opening solo, grabs a guitar pick from the mic stand, pulls back and telegraphs to the audience "hang on to your butts, here it comes"!

Heart emerged from an era when lead guitarists received just as much if not more spotlight as the vocalist. AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, The Runaways, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith. Heart was no exception. Nancy got mad respect.

I stand corrected, but drives home the point: great guitarists, lead or not, got major respect during that golden era of rock in the 70s & 80s 🤘😜🤘

Ann and Nancy are both phenomenally talented. When you said, "I want to listen to live performances" before this one, I can't imagine anyone was worried. Ann just beat cancer and hopes to be back to performing soon. The inducting Led Zeppelin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance was brilliant. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant cried it was so beautiful.

You mentioned old school raw talent versus modern commercialized fireworks, glitz, glamour, and autotuned voices. I'm with you. Modern commercialized work is like eating plastic tasting processed cheese - Synthetic taste with no depth.
Ann is one of Rock's finest vocalists. She has so much power, nuance, sustainability, and control in her singing voice. Nancy is also incredible .. and she can sing too. In fact, Nancy sings lead vocal on about 18 Heart songs.

  • @GregCombs100

This was Heart's best song to perform live, throughout their career, it's just lots of energy. This performance is early, and with Nancy just rocking out on the acoustic guitar it makes the performance. It's not easy to play acoustic guitar that aggressively for several minutes, it takes a lot of strength and skill.
Live performances are the best, especially at my age where I've been listening to these songs since high school, seeing a live performance gives you something different from what's been played on the radio a million times.

I saw Heart during their "Bébé le Strange" tour (1980). It was their first album after Roger Fisher left the band.
The show was really good, and the sound was fantastic. Their sound crew did an awesome job. It was virtually free of distortion.
Joe Perry (from Aerosmith) was supposed to be the opening act, but he was a no-show. I think he called in drunk....

Nancy Wilson with the wind in her hair and her acoustic guitar virtuosity stole my heart in 1980, and hasn't given it back yet. (And she does vocals -- backing vocals on most tracks, lead on some, she's a very good singer compared to anyone except Ann...)

That was a dual lead guitar solo by lead guitarist Roger Fisher (on the right, by Nancy) and Howard Leese (on the far left).
Howard Leese (keyboards, guitar) didn't get enough praise for what he did for the band. After Roger Fisher left, Leese took over the lead guitar position. He was very talented.

There are 3 elements that make a song "pure Heart sound".
    1) Amazing vocals from Ann in general.
    2) Stunning harmonies with Nancy/Ann that are breathtaking when isolated.
    3) "Music drops" during a song that come out of nowhere and completely change not just the "vibe" of a song, but the energy of both the performers AND listeners at the same time.
And "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" are prime examples of these elements taking what would be a "decent/average song" to a completely different level of perfection.

I went to, and saw Heart at, Cal Jam 2 (Mar. 1978). I was just 15yrs9mos and it was my first concert. Got dropped off the night before (about 9 or 10pm)...my older brother got lost getting us drinks before Santana (fourth in the lineup) performed...and then hitchhiked home to San Berdoo after Aerosmith was done (about 12 to 1am = approx. 27 hours later). Luckily someone responded to my "shout" at the tunnel exiting under the track; "anyone going to San Berdoo?" They ended up living just a few blocks from me and got me home. My brother ended up being sent to a hospital for his asthma.

In the 70's, Heart's lead singer Anne Wilson was the focal point of the band and her sister Nancy Wilson on guitar was the secondary attraction onstage... However, that changed in the 80's when Anne Wilson gained weight and her large frame was a liability in the image-heavy 80's that relied on MTV for popularity.
Although Anne was still the frontwoman when Heart played concerts, it was Nancy Wilson who was predominantly featured in music videos and got most of the attention in the 80's.
The Wilson sisters had issues w/ each other... but that wasn't apparent until 2016 when Ann's husband was arrested after an altercation w/ Nancy's son and Heart split up for a while... I read an article where Ann blamed Heart's 1995 breakup on Nancy Wilson opting to take a break from the band to start a family. They tour together as Heart but are still at odds over the band's future.

I only heard this and a few other live versions of Heart over the last year where I had heard pressings before. A great choice band for live takes. In fact I wasn't watching I would assume this was a studio take by how clean it is. I was not surprised to read about how much influence they had and a lot of the big rock acts, grunge included. Just fantastic musicians here.

Heart is a legendary band and have massive contributions to music, even with bands like Alice in Chains

Beautiful Bisscute, at on time Nancy had the title of the world's greatest acoustic guitar player

There already is a third Wilson sister, Lynn. She is the oldest and was only in their first band when they were kids (ages 10, 14, 18). However, she did do some background vocals on some of the Heart albums.
On the "Private Auditions" album song "Perfect Stranger" you can briefly hear all three sisters in harmony; and on song "The Situation" the lone vocal on the chorus is Lynn's. "Cry To Me" on their album "Little Queen" has a lot of 3-sister vocals.

Pretty sure she was proving a point in this performance. She and Ann were both proving a point that the band and name Heart was all theirs.

Agree with you, but I think this was Nancy making the statement that she belonged on that stage. This definitely put to rest the claims that her guitar wasn't plugged in, or she was just "eye candy".

They weren't combining the vocals with the guitar at the end, That was two guitars harmonizing together. Howard Leese and the GREAT Roger Fisher!!!!!

Ann has an incredibly clean and powerful voice. Amazing. I get what you mean about the way that ended. You're just not ready for it to end. You want to be eased into it. Another great reaction Biss-very-cute. I have to ask is your accent Romanian? Yes, you could do some ooo's as well. Thanks for helping to keep great music alive,
