I totally approve your choice 😂 I tried playing Cross Code a few months ago and didn’t really enjoy it because of the controls. Not sure why it has so many great reviews to be honest lol
Gosh that title was such a horrible thing to go through between the amazing suikoden 3 and 5. You are much braver than me, I don’t think I managed to play more than 3 hours at the time.
My goodness, was that game a pile of crap! I played that one off the back of finishing Skies of Arcadia Legends on the Gamecube and it was like 'okay, time for another sea-faring adventure...except this time, everything is joyless, ugly, clunky, slow as molasses, and empty.....oh yeah, and your character's named fuckin' LAZLO!!'
I'm usually pretty good at picking out games for myself that I'll like, even when I'm going in blind. The only recent miss I can think of (and I know this game has a lot of fans so I'm sorry in advance) is Octopath Traveler. My main issues lay with the pacing of the multiple stories and the fact that the game forces you to do parts of some stories before you can continue with others. There were just some stories I could not be bothered with, and being forced to run through full chapters of those stories before I could continue with others really killed my motivation to try to see the ones I enjoyed through to the end. I often try to go back to games that I don't vibe with so hopefully at some point in the future I can give it another shot and find some more enjoyment in it. Also about Xenoblade 2, if your main issue with the game is the combat than that is not at all your fault. Ask anyone who truly understands combat in Xenoblade 2 and they'll tell you that the tutorials in the game are AWFUL. They withhold key information for no reason and hide said information behind hidden NPCs that you have to buy that info from, they teach you mechanics incorrectly leading to confusion when something that's supposed to be helpful isn't doing anything, and in some very unfortunate cases they outright lie to you about how certain mechanics work. If anyone reading this has had issues with the combat of Xenoblade 2 I highly recommend a video by UA-camr Chuggaaconroy where he explains the combat better than the game ever could in about 15 minutes with no story spoilers (also to Miss Bubbles if you see this and have issue with me recommending other UA-camrs in your comments please let me know and I'll edit this out or delete this comment if you'd prefer.) Xenoblade 2 is one of my favorites and it makes me so sad to hear about people who couldn't get to enjoy it because their experience with the combat was ruined by crappy tutorials.
Extremely fun time, thanks for having me on! Was a nice challenge given I don’t do any short form content and dissect everything to a game no matter how long it takes….. truly mean that too 😂 really wild to see some of the picks on here from other phenomenal content creators but it’s really cool to see different tastes and why it didn’t work for some! Great video as always my friend!
While everyone is entitled to their opinion Trails of Cold Steel is one of the best JRPGs of all time! The slow pace of it is what makes it great. You get to know the characters before everything happens and it makes the events in CS2 so much better because you lived a “normal” school life with them before in CS1. It definitely is a slow paced series but that’s a pro not a con for me. Importing the game just to not have it be steel book seems unnecessary though. But that’s easy for me to say with no OCD. My game shelf is just a mess of random games that would infuriate someone with OCD.
As a ride or die Trails fan myself, you do have to admit that the argument of why CS1, a 60-80 hour JRPG, is so good is because it helps payoff CS2, another 60-80 hour JRPG, is a little funny. Like, those are not insignificant time commitments. I love Cold Steel 1, but if someone recommended me a video game while saying that it’s slow paced and small-scaled all so that it’s sequel could pay off that time investment, I’d counter with why not just play a game that pays off itself and respects my time. All of that being said, the Trails series is definitely something special. Long form world building and storytelling to this degree just hasn’t ever been attempted in games before, and while we may have a time commitment for the localized games that has to have passed 500 hours at this point, I’ve never regretted a moment of playing through these games. They’re just definitely not for everyone, and the more a person puts into and accepts them, the more they get out of it.
Sakuna Rice Farm is admittedly complicated at first but it is easy to break the stat cap with dumping stat boosters into the fertilizer before applying it at the start of the season. The whole rice processing stages become simpler with the crafting of tools and other mechanics to speed the process It feels so rewarding at the end of autumn to harvest the hard toils and get that sweet exp boost and many bundles of rice to feed you and even sell
The RPG's I deeply regret buying are Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, Ulimited SaGa, The Caligula Effect: Overdose, Shining Resonance: Refrain and Monark.
I love whenever you guys do these, every time it’s something like the International RPG Consortium (Anglophone Division). Format also forces everyone to be brief, so it has a very different feel from the usual review vid. And of course everybody has a different style, and usually I get to meet (well, ‘meet’) a few new reviewers each time. Kudos everyone
I can't really think about even one game that I regret buying. Sure there are games that I didn't like. But as a physical collector I would have regreted for NOT buying them and missing the chance to get them when they where on stock. Because I obviously thought that the game is good. So I take it simply for how it is.
I got a kick out of seeing Monark on this list! I just finished playing last weekend. I loved it, but I totally see and respect why other people regret it. It was fun to see it getting any kind of attention, because I just kind of stumbled upon it when looking for RPG demos.
I actually made a comment on Taylor’s channel that I thought it was so cool that he hated a game I LOVE like Cold Steel 1. I think being different and learning from each other is what makes us as a people great and truly believe that’s the next step of evolution. How many disasters have occurred just because we see things differently? I believe we should embrace it, learn from it, and enjoy how different we can all be. Taylor and I don’t agree on Cold Steel but I am pretty sure that we agree on a lot more than what we disagree on but if we fight like fools then we’ll never know. Awesome video and very cool people here like my boy David who looked stunning with that wig lol.
Thank you for this video, cause it also gives me a good idea of what these content creators enjoy or value in their games. Which is actually also helpful for those of us who sync with that same mindset or in some cases completely disagree. No game is for everyone, no RPG is for every RPG fan even. So respecting that we all have different tastes and styles is good, and finding the voices you do agree with is really valuable.
I get what you're saying about Xenoblade,it took me three attempts at playing until it clicked, once i got invested in the story everything else fell into place and it was worth it, I really loved the game.
Sakuna wasn’t overly difficult for me, but I wouldn’t play it again. Combat part was more frustrating than growing rice. Story never had a great payoff. Enjoyed the video and agree with most of the sentiments!
I feel SO validated hearing all of your opinions. Mine has always been Nier: Automata - the game whose soundtrack still makes me swoon, but whose confusing storyline that needed THREE PLAYTHROUGHS to have any sense of closure left me frustrated and baffled. Yet I get burnt at the stake when I say it 😭 so I appreciate the civility you all displayed. Couldn't agree more: I WANT to like these games! I want other people to like them!! Devs worked hard to ensure people did and they deserve fanbases!!! I just know not everything will gel with me, despite my best attempts...which, as someone now trying Xenoblade 2 (again), I feel your pain, Bubbles 😅
I love all of The Legend of Heroes Trails of Cold Steel games and Tales of Zesteria. Actually, there are 2 RPG games I regret buying: Omega Quintet: Anytime I play it, I get extremely bored and tired. Fairy Fencer F; It's not as good as it thought it would be.
Here for the bros @Chicken Fillets, @TheGamingShelf, and @DavidVinc! Awesome collaboration, everyone had brilliant choices, but Xenoblade 2 was your regret, Bubbles? Nooooo, my poor Xenoblade 😭 Hahaha, I jest and completely understand your point of view. Looking forward to future videos!
A personal pick for a jrpg I regret buying is sadly Smt v as it runs poorly, the story is the worst in the franchise and some of the late game grind is exhausting. The music and art direction was great as always though. I'm not really a fan of atlus re-releases but SMT V really needs one
I can’t really think of any jrpg regrets I have outside of the countless regrets of not having gotten around to playing them. It’s extremely weird, I know, but I kind of regret Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Y for being the “wrong version” of their respective eras of Pokémon, when I would’ve much rather owned Alpha Sapphire and X. For your other question, I haven’t gotten around to playing very many of them, as they’re mostly sitting on my shelf waiting for me to play, so the only Tales of game that I’ve played is Symphonia, and although it was many years ago on the GameCube, I remember enjoying it a lot.
Resonance of Fate. The only game where I got so frustrated that I almost threw the controller at the TV. My husband ended up banning me from playing it because I found the combat too stressful.
Awesome video and great job everyone! I actually enjoy listening to people who are disappointment in a game that I personally love. CrossCode was that game in this collab. And I will never understand people getting actually upset because someone doesn't like something you like. It's sooo silly.
@@chickenfilletsAs soon as I saw you're in this Video, I knew what you were going to pick haha. Completely agree on the Story being bad. Gameplay is great though.
Suikoden 4 wasn't bad, it just wasn't nearly as good as the first three games. I used to call myself a hardcore gamer (much regret there), so I played a lot of RPGs. The one that jumps out at me right now is Ephemeral Phantasia. The overworld was built to be a maze, so getting to where you wanted to go was a pain.
I tried the demo for Octopath Traveler and got turned off pretty quickly...BUT when Octopath Traveler 2 came out I tried it and it is MUCH BETTER! I did go back and buy OT1 and beat it but it wasn't nearly as good as 2, as I have now finished both.
The intro really made me laugh, I love it! 😂🥰 I completely understand the motion sickness, I heard people had similar issue with Sword and Shield? Gravity Rush made me very ill but at least there was a demo so I didn't end up purchasing it thankfully, still sad about it though. I like soulsborne games, but I do get why people don't like them. It's difficult to describe but as I'm forever limited on time I want to be able to play a game that works with that, but I feel like soulslike games don't always? Sometimes I want to be easily distracted and look at the scenery without being pushed off a ledge by a skeleton I missed, okay! I'm sorry! 😂🤣 Speaking of which, Dark Souls 3.. I hated it. I absolutely detest it. I got to the final boss because I really wanted to like it but it made me miserable. It also took me a while to realise that I did just plain hate it and I rarely hate a game even if I dislike it! So I really appreciate videos like this, it's nice to hear different takes sometimes, some things just don't work for everyone and it's always interesting! ❤️ If anyone wishes to know why I didn't like ds3: I like the soulsborne games for their methodic gameplay, I like the lessons they teach you and that you literally have to be prepared to try and try again. I even listen to music without game audio because something in my brain is good with patterns and so I don't need audio clues even on a first play through. In fact I find it easier to focus (though I do regret missing out on the game's music) but I eventually realised that that was in fact my issue.. Because of Bloodborne they made efforts to make ds3 gameplay/combat faster. Which is fine, but it felt like it was sometimes on 1.25x speed or 2x to me. It felt sped up but never in a consistent way, which meant I never found a pattern and it didn't even matter what build nor equipment I had. There is also evidence that there is an optional boss with an attack box that is wider than their swing so even if you dodge it you're likely to get caught if you don't account for it. I had to look it up because I was certain it wasn't me being rubbish for once 😂 it was indeed the game. You have to be able to trust that you are the one that makes a mistake in a soulslike, and between my character model not being able to walk forward without juddering and the frame rate being up to 60fps but seldom steady (on Ps4 pro) it was frustrating for the wrong reasons. The world was so greyscale after Ds2 and bloodborne too?
I definitely recommend giving “Persona 5” another chance! Funny you felt that way about “Xenoblade Chronicles 2”, b/c I loved that (and “XB1” & “XBX”) but feel the same way about “Xenoblade Chronicles 3”. I know everyone loved that one, but so far it hasn’t gripped me like the other games and I don’t enjoy the combat like I did in the other games. Maybe if I wasn’t forced to switch job classes I would enjoy it better, but I just find the system tedious so far. The story & characters are okay, but haven’t got me invested like the other games’ stories and characters
It feels like XC3 gameplay style gone better each game of the series as it got easier with the combat style to make it casual appealing. Same with Persona 5 gameplay being too easy to beat because of casual.
I like how you comment about each game as well as an useful second opinion. Thanks for the video! About the games, Sakuna is a great chill game for me; I would never think about it as stressful. Almost everything invites to relax: growing rice, having dinner with friends, the short stages. I have just started with the first Trails of Cold Steel to know what's the fuss about this series. It feels old, sure, but I actually like the pace, the characters, the combat. Though I admit I haven't continued because there's always another game that I like a bit more, particularly my Atelier games unending backlog.
Id say final fantasy 7 remake didnt feel good with me. I think its because the original was one my top favorites and how long I waited for the remake to happen. i just couldnt get into the new way battle system, even on 'classic' mode. Since I got a lot older, maybe it's about learning new things that stresses me out? I donno but after the first reactor mission, i've put it on the shelf and it stayed there since. Not planning on getting the other parts (unless I find them for cheap).
@@jeveritt8398 Engage is my 1st Fire Emblem and the combat really blew me away. Im gonna get 3 Houses next. Just waiting for it to go on sale someday. Heard a lot of good things about 3 houses.
FE is such an oddball series sometimes. Seems like the games with great stories (Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, Three Houses) don't always have the best map design and enemy placement. And the ones with better gameplay (Fates: Conquest, Engage) have questionable story. The best compromise might well be the GBA games. Or possibly the SNES titles, I'll admit they're the only ones in the series I haven't touched.
I really wanted to like Asuna too. I heard it was like a farming game mixed with Muramasa The Demon Blade which is one of my favorite action games of all time. But ultimately the farming was way too tedious. It felt like they were trying to get somewhat realistic rice farming mechanics in a game with wonderfully unrealistic combat and I found the mix awkward.
Very fun video to watch! For RPGs there not much I regret actually being but even If I don't regret buying them I still felt let down by what they ended up being vs what I was expecting. For exemple, Fallout 4 and Starfield. I had fun with both but I was dissapointed by both too. If we look at non RPG games, Zelda BotW was one I kind of regret buying because the things I don't like about the game outweight the things I like about it, that's the reason why I didn't buy TotK and never will. It's just not for me. It was really interesting seeing all these opinions though, especially for Pokémon Violet/Scarlet because it's actually the first main entry that I actually really enjoyed in a while (so that excludes Arceus that I really liked too) but I can totally understand why someone would not.
oh yes monarch. those in the discord may remember my..soul being crushed because like a fool i spent over 100 hours on it , only to end up feeling like i got stabbed in the back at the end.😑😑never again. Anyway great picks from all of you , i respect your choices and yes lets do better and understand that not everyone will like what you like.
Haha! I felt that way too. I was like seriously? I still didn’t do enough? I loved it anyway, but I totally understand and respect why someone wouldn’t!
You should play Xenoblade 1 first, its the most beginner friendly and will probably help you understand XC2s combat better. Plus the story is best experienced by playing them in order.
Man I love Xenoblade 2 i understand your criticisms though the map system and combat were hard to learn but tbh I made a point to look up videos on the combat and map explained witch made the game more enjoyable as well but not something you should have to do
Great video, with an opportunity to know about a lot of talentuous youtubers! I totally agree with you on Xenoblade 2, and I believe I went farther than you without anything "clicking" for me. The gameplay is overly complicated, the hypersexualization of women feels cringy, and even environments aren't that great, if you compare them to the other entries. But please give the series a chance, as XC1 and XC3 are great games with little to no flaws, and you might really enjoy the thematics of the third game (which you say you've purchased). Thank you again for this video, I just subscribed to you, and am on my way to discover the other youtubers' channels! Have a good day!
I enjoyed Temtem for some time, but it was such a grind, so I stopped playing. I don't regret buying it tho, because it was on sale. But Sakuna is a game I regret buying a bit. First I was so excited to play it, but then it was just kind of disappointing. I can't put my finger on what was the issue for me.
Honestly, and I really do wanna talk about it more one day in a full on review like I typically would do, it but I agree in my own way. Because of what I mentioned in my part, it really is just a mindless grind and play at many points which sucks because I really do enjoy the world and Temtem designs. I’m all for changing up the formula of course, I think so many games like Cassette Beasts are killing it for example, but I still stand by the fact if we’re gonna implement new stuff, it’s gotta work in every part of the game. I’ve seen Sakuna mentioned a lot though, I actually picked it up a long while ago and never got back to it, not that I didnt vibe with it I just got busy with so much else, but it’s crazy to see it mentioned so much, honestly interesting! Really intrigued to know why from your standpoint too if you ever put a finger on it, always love hearing this stuff!
A suggestion for Xenoblade 2, always use pouch items, especially desserts, it makes driver arts have time base cooldown instead of only autoattack. You can try Torna if you want the base combat is the same as Xenoblade 2, but much simpler. Once you understand Torna you can probably play base 2 no problem, outside the element tree, which in base 2 is fix, while in Torna is not. Just remember to do all sides you can. 2 is not important for 3, but it is important for 3’s DLC Story, which I recommend playing 2, before that.
Monark was so much a game I wanted to love. Story was very Interesting and at first I really got into it. Unfortunately once I realized how slow, how much you had to grind, puzzles which caused me to often cheat in order to finish them quicker, and battles that seemed to be about the same since your very first one, I soon lost interest. Somehow I managed to get to the final game stage but I seriously doubt I'll ever finish it. Thankfully I only paid 20 bucks for the deluxe edition. Again I don't totally hate the game and hopefully there will be a Monark2 with obvious improvements similar to The Caligula effect 2 which I really enjoyed.
I would really like to see an improved Monark 2. I ended up actually loving the game in spite of the many flaws, but I can definitely see a lot of room for improvement. I just pretended like it was an older game, lol.
Well where many people first go wrong is comparing and even considering Trails of Cold Steel on the same level as Persona 5. They have very little in common in general, not only that but narratively and actively try to achieve two completely different things. CS1 acts as a major precursor to the events to follow in later games, and that methodical build up is proof of that. Unlike Persona 5 which is basically standalone. It's a Trails experience through and through, and the pay off is in spades.
As a 90s kid myself I really wish this clicked with me! I just couldn't with the controls & some of those redundant awkward puzzles. Maybe I'll give it another go someday 😅
I'm the type of person who loves the Pokémon franchise and hates the way the Pokémon Company treats its own product. Even with all the flaws in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, I loved the open world, capturing Pokémon was very satisfying and the story lines were much more enjoyable than the aberration that was Sword/Shield, Tera Type's mechanics made for a fun online game, anyway. The fact that the game was so poorly optimized was so sad, but the rest of it pleased me so much that I immersed myself in the game in an intense way, for me, real life was at 15-20 FPS because I was so hooked. But anyway, I loved the video format!
You guys must be so tired of reading people's unwelcomed opinions about you and your tastes, god. All I've watched in this video is completely valid In my case, my RPG regret would probably be either Tales of Arise or Triangle Strategy. Both of them were pretty disappointing as a Tales and Team Asano fan. FFVII Remake too.
Aw, Xenoblade 2 is on my Top 10 games of all time, the story, music and characters are top notch but if the combat is what makes you quit... I get it, it does take a while a understand but when it clicks is one of the best battle systems ever made, but the tutorials are really bad ... haha And for the one who didn't liked ToCS, I don't know why it didn't felt slow for me, I actually loved every bit of that game, enjoying the school trips and getting to know each of the members of class VII. As for me, the games I cannot get into no matter what are the Dragon Quest games, I find them very boring... sacrilegious I know, but when I liked the spin off series more (Heroes 1 and 2) and managed to finish those but not the mainline games says a lot. 😅
My bigger regret is all the fabulous RPGs that I simply will never have time to play. But keeping with the theme, my RPG regret is 7th Saga for the SNES. The game features 7 characters searching the world for magic runes that will boost your stats and the other 6 characters that you don't select will be NPCs that you will encounter in the world. The issue is that when you do encounter them, there is a chance that they will join you but there's also a chance that they will challenge you for your runes instead. Losing to them means that you will lose your stat bonuses to them making rematches nearly impossible. And because they nerfed the player stats in the English release, they will *always* beat you. Going into the latter parts of the game without those runes is equally impossible. Your best bet is to reset and start over or better yet, trade your game for last year's Madden.
Ah! Tales of fans! I salute you. 😊 My favorite Tales is, Arise, Vesperia and Berseria. Arise best gameplay, Vesperia best exploration and Berseria best story and main character. Velvet is badass! 😋
@@lambertar ah. Zesteria... it's not a bad game. It's just not great. Get it when it's on a deep sale is my advice. And Zaveid is also a playable character in Zesteria, not just Eizen's sister. And if you like Eizen and his little sister, you can meet them somewhere in Tales of Arise's bonus dungeon. Also it's rare to see anyone mention Tales Of Graces f. I love that game too. 😋
This was a fun video! Can completely understand your claim with people saying you have to play a ludicrous amount of a game for it to click, ill usually spend at most 5 hours on a game that I'm not enjoying to see if it can change my mind and i feel 5 hours on a game is more than fare to see if it gels with you! As for RPGs i regret buying, Xenoblade Chronicles is definitely one for me, i did not enjoy the gameplay at all! but id have to go with Fallout 4, that game was just not fun to play in any regards, it's gameplay was clunky and unfun, glitches and just boring. It made me want to go play any other game!
One RPG I regret buying is Exist Archive: Other Side of the Sky. The game was cheap at GameStop, the gameplay and story looking interesting, so I thought I'd try it out. Heck, it worked in the past using this strategy with Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis. Well, there was ONE major issue that ruin the game for me- the lack of saving points. You pick certain parts of the world to explore, and that part has like a meglovania type of feel to it. Here's the problem, you can't save until you leave the area you're exploring and that's after you defeat a boss. This wasn't an issue at first, but then it could take over an hour to complete your objective. I've tried replaying this game a few times, but that mechanic is just too much for me and exploration felt like a drag because you explore the same areas again and again at some point too. So yeah it's a shame, but I am not a fan of the game for that reason.
So, mine is Tears of the kingdom. I just can't seem to get into it, it feels like its just breath of the wild but with a building mechanic. I loved Breath of the Wild, but yeah I just truly regret getting Tears of the kingdom
Sakura: Of Rice and Ruin is not that bad/hard. Sakura turned into one of my favorite games and I never liked side scrollers, but started trying others after playing it. I never would have tried Ori if it wasn’t for Sakura. Come to the Sakura dark side, we have cookies.😂
I think these sort of opinion videos are important and fun to watch to get people's different views about various RPGs (whether I like the games or not)
Huh. I barely have any RPGs I regret playing, the genre is my bread and butter. I love XC2 personally, though it took me until about 40% of the way through the game to fully understand the combat and I say that as someone who's normally quick to learn systems both intuitively and by delving into mechanics. The tutorials are ass. And the "anime tropeyness" of the beginning is a bit jarring compared to the atmosphere of XC1 and 3, but once the plot gets going, it's good. The series overall is probably one of my favourites among all RPGs, and it saddens me to think of someone going blindly into 3 without having played the first 2 (even if it's not strictly necessary until the expansion). Actually, now I think about it, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. That may be the one RPG where I just got _absolutely_ filtered. Like what were they even thinking with that game. And while I overall enjoyed Zestiria, I'll admit it's also the weakest Tales for me personally. (Since you asked which my favourite is, it's split between Xillia 2 and Graces f. They're both currently PS3 only.)
Nice collaboration video. One RPG that I regret buying and spending time on is Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey. The way the time limit is designed in that game makes it very frustrating and stressful, and that is the opposite of what an Atelier game should be. The characters were not all that interesting either. It was so disappointing after playing Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book, which I liked. I swore off these games until recently as I plan on giving Atelier Ryza I go since many seem to like it.
I'm 20 hours into Pokemon Violet and really enjoying it. I probably have bad taste in graphics because I don't really mind most of it, and I like the designs of the new pokemons. Ah well, it's not for everyone I guess. Nothing in the world is 😅

Trails? Pokemon? I have no regrets playing. Xenoblade? Good as it is, it takes too long to get going and I got overwhelmed fast. Trails, at least, has a Turbo Mode to FF long cutscenes.
This is how you play xenoblade 2: First you let your characters attack not moving them unless it is necessary, letting them charge their abilities. What you want to do is use break→topple→launch→smash In that order. As you do that switching to your own blades or the other characters automatically if they have the skill, you want to induce them with elemental damage wich follows a combo of elemental attacks: i.e. Light→Electric→Fire. When you finish successfully a combo, you will have an element's orb rotating the enemy. The fun part is to sync the smash with the last element of the combo, getting a cool attack. When you have a few orbs and your chain attack filled, then you press start and destroy the orbs by attacking them with their elemental opposite. When you destroy enough orbs, the final character will do a super strog attack. This can look dificult but as all big enemies follow this strategy with some small variations it gets ingrained into you, so you start doing cooler things like starting a chain attack on an enemy that's been lunched for extra damage and start getting the timing of the driver combo and the elemental combo easier.
The most regret I experienced in recent years was Dragon Quest XI on switch. I bought the game almost immediately for 60$ after seeing overwhelming praise about the game, and left me dumbfounded after playing it for 30 hours, not in a good way sadly. This is really strange, because I do adore classic turn based rpg. For me, the story is extremely bland stereotypical fairy tale with a little twist sprinkled here and there but nothing too drastic. The story is divided into several "arcs" with one overarching plot. But the whimsical and happy-go-lucky nature of the adventure really undermines the grimness of the overarching plot. It's like the party forgets what they are supposed to do in the first place as they are distracted with a lot of things, like festivals, horse race, kingdom affair (if you can even call it an affair, feels like a comedic drama more than anything). It's really unfortunate, because I liked the premise told in the first few hours (like when the king betrayed us, and when the village was burned). I also dislike the atmosphere of the game, as it is extremely cartoony. Final Fantasy series has this surreal feeling when I explore the settings, since the characters, the theme, the politics felt serious, hence I understood the urgency of the plot. In dragon quest XI, none of the npcs feel "human" to me aside from the main casts. The town npcs can be either very childish or excessively expressive, devoid of any grounded expressions that makes the whole situations feels real. I wanted to say "oh but the game is relaxing at least" but I can't. I can relax in Rune Factory, Persona, and Harvestella because I find the music, the routine, and the open-ness of the gameplay works together to create a sense of lazy/chill routine. Dragon quest XI's blaring upbeat music screams adventure, and the game's linear nature makes the main story progression always takes priority, so chill factor was thrown out of window. The graphics is good (a bit blurry on handheld, but nothing gamebreaking), but what killed the immersion for me was the plastic-y monsters and asset recycling. The enemies looks so cuddly and unintimidating that I felt bad killing them. I can't take my enemy seriously if they look like plastic figures. Since the devs made a lot of cities and areas, the assets they reused becomes extremely apparent by the mid game, to the point it adds to monotony. It doesn't help that the UI is extremely outdated, and the city services like churches and shops are poorly designed.
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is the rpg game I regret buying the most. It's such a departure from the other 4 games in the series and reason why I believe Capcom quit making games for this awesome series. I also regret buying Trails of Cold Steel. Like Taylor said the game starts so slowly and I gave up on it. I here it gets better starting with the sequel. My favorite Tales game is Tales of Vesperia, I love the characters and story.
Suikoden 3 for me, here comes the rant. •Awful 3D they were forced to implement. •Chaptered style story telling jumping between characters which made it feel too linear. •Battle team was comprised of buddy teams that moved together around the field which led to team killing from runes with aoe dmg. •The fact that Thomas was the Tenkai Star when it should have just been Hugo. •Adding to that he should be the solid pick for the True Fire Rune as the MC/Tenkai because Geddoe already had the True Thunder Rune from the beginning and Chris has the ability to receive the True Water Rune from her father. (End Rant)
Miss Bubbles: I HATE Dark Souls. LOL cozy farming sims are like the OPPOSITE of Dark Souls, like literally everything about Miss Bubbles is the opposite of Dark Souls hahaha
Great collab vid! You always put out the best ones. For me it was Xenoblade X. I i was on vacation for a month in Europe knowing itd be waiting at home for me when I got back, i loaded it up before I even finished unpacking anything and i was severely dissapointed as it was nothing like Xenoblade 1 and not at all what I wanted.
I completely agree! The first one was phenomenal, and I couldn't wait for the second installment. I was severely disappointed in the final product: a heartless slog with forgettable characters. I don't think that I completed 10 hours of it. I will not be going back for the third installment. NO!
@@eeeeggnog._.I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just nothing about it jives with what I want from JRPGS (character created protagonist, mission based structure, forced side content) and I didn't like the music, but to each their own.
Fire Emblem Engage, Star Ocean 5 and Paper Mario Sticker Star just to name a few. If you think Xenoblade 2s combat is complicated, try Vagrant Story because I have never seen a more complicated combat system in my life. Btw I love Vagrant Story, but it took me a couple of playthoughs before I could truly say I understood all Its systems.
Dragons Dogma. The characters, the npcs, the entire game looks soulless and creeps me out. I also HATE that climbing technique. Also: Final Fantasy (weirdly except FF8 and Tactics on GBA)- i never enjoyed any FF. But i found out that i LOVE the Dragon Quest and Ys series, also Breath of Fire.
i regret buying these RPG -Xenoblade 1 and 2 -Tokyo Mirage Sessions -Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom -Pokemon Legend of Arceus -Neptuina Super RPG -Star Ocean: The Last Hope -Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness -Tales of Zestiria -Witcher 3 -Dragon Age 2 but i got mine reasons
I am currently 100 hours+ on Xenoblade 2, it is an engaging game once you master the basics. it can be overwhelming and confusing at first and has a pretty bad quest tracker system. but I still think I will finish it. Don't forget there is 2 game with separate stories under Xenoblade chronicle 2. Try playing that one. I heard they improved it. I am on to it after I finish this one. second game is about a golden couintry
I can’t get into Tales of, I tried Berseria and Arise for around 10h each and I just can’t get a feel for the combat, it never feels fun. The same with Xenoblade 1, even though this one I might push through the combat just for the story in the future
Temtem is my RPG regret like huge huge regret... I feel so much pain for my wallet for it.. especially cause I bought it twice (for me and my sibling) to play together and it's utter disappointment...
Jordan with his sense of humour. Love it or hate it. ❤ For me back in the day of the PS1 when RPGs were still a new thing for me. I had discovered FF7 in 1998 and wanted anything JRPG. I got a game called Eternal Eyes and it was nothing like FF7. It was closer to the FF Tactics game we never got in Europe but a worse version of it. I didn’t like it at all. We didn’t get that many JRPGs in Europe back then. Regarding Xenoblade Chronicles 2 I barely understand it either. But Pyra is enough for me to like the game anyway😂 for Tales of the game in the series that vibed most with me was Graces F on PS3. It’s since come out on PS4 I think. Originally a Wii game in Japan.
Oooh, RPG purchase regrets? I have simple asks of my RPGs: that they have good stories and a worthwhile gameplay loop. If neither resonate with me, then I can't get into it. Such was the case with my choice - Disgaea. I bought it on a whim after a friend of mine recommended it. I liked the art style, and I like tactical RPGs. Two feathers in its cap. Unfortunately, I didn't find the gameplay loop rewarding (grinding stages ad nauseum doesn't gel), and the story was very surface level, with Laharl wanting to be king of hell. That's basically it. They are wonderful games for those that like them, but I tapped out after buying and playing the first one for a few hours. Just not worth my time.
I don’t like xenoblade chronicles 2 either. I agree that the combat was difficult and so annoying. I really tried to get into it. To those who like it I’m happy for you :)
As a trails/Kiseki fan I absolutely agree with him, CS1 is slow af, however we have to agree the just played P5 thing did impact his opinion I indeed agree with him to an 80% extent but yeah such gorgeous game like P5, followed right by a PSVita game… yeah no
I love everything ive ever played in Final Fantasy (7-10 being my favs). For some reason Tactics just drove me nuts and is the only one i didnt finish nor enjoy throughout. I was as out of gaming for 20 years though. Have 12 ready to go after crisis core is done. Gotta get ready for 7s continuation - that and zelda brought me back.
my biggest regret for an rpg is Final Fantasy 13 lightning returns. It was a chore to get through, was completely different from any other final fantasy and just never felt memorable. very much a anticlimatic end to the trilogy
Uffff, I love RPGs but hate the idea of filler, I don't like games that demand 40+ hours to finish. Actually I moved from RPGs to action adventure. My perfect example is that even though I really liked the Witcher 3 I preferred the Witcher 2. And the game I regret starfield, I never got excited.
Elden Ring is my biggest regret since Superman64. It had zero story, despite putting GRRM on the title, bait and switch. All I wanted was Mario level of story-telling at a minimum.
I've never been big on Souls games, the closest thing I've enjoyed being Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor, but the lack of story was a huge shame as that likely would have carried me through it.

Thanks tor having me on again 🥰 I'm a little sad to see some games listed on here, but I'm sure there are others who feel similarly about my choice 😂😅
I totally approve your choice 😂 I tried playing Cross Code a few months ago and didn’t really enjoy it because of the controls. Not sure why it has so many great reviews to be honest lol
@@princessgamerxo7713 I can see how it would maybe work better on PC, but handled on the switch wasn't working for me 😅
cross code was one game i didn't buy cuz it looks super fast, i also hate puzzle and since controls are weird, i'll just avoid it.
Thank you so much for having me on for this collab!! I loved doing the skit and talking about Star Ocean 5! 😂😂😂
Hi David! That was AWESOME!
Haha, SO5 is always the game I am talking about when it comes to disappointments, too.
It's the most disappointing game in my over 25 years of gaming.
Cheers to many more skits 🤭
I laughed so much - watched the intro twice 😄 - such a great idea. Expect Hollywood to knock on your door soon! 🌋
you are the best. my favorite gaming channel
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to vent about Suikoden 4. Was like a free 2 minute therapy session. 👍
Jordan, you made the video rock buddy!!!!!
I yelled to the roof when I saw you. A bit more Jordan please!!!!!!
I had really fun with Sakuna. Having 100% perfect rice all time is not important. I was halfway to maxlevel when i completed the game.
I’m gonna keep this in mind and give it another go 🙌🏾
Sakuna Rice Farm is admittedly complicated at first but it is easy to break the stat cap with dumping stat boosters into the fertilizer before applying it at the start of the season.
The whole rice processing stages become simpler with the crafting of tools and other mechanics to speed the process
It feels so rewarding at the end of autumn to harvest the hard toils and get that sweet exp boost and many bundles of rice to feed you and even sell
My biggest RPG regret was Lunar: Dragon Song for the Nintendo DS. Game broke my heart and doomed the series for all eternity 😢
Teach me your rice growing ways 😭 I actually really enjoy the combat it’s my rice that sucks 😂😂😂
Actually, there are 2 RPG games I regret buying:
Omega Quintet: Anytime I play it, I get extremely bored and tired.
Looking forward to future videos!
xenoblade 2 it is one of the best jrpg games.
@ros7007 That games combat was so confusing to me as a kid! Loved the cutscenes, but the combat was so strange.
Awesome video and great job everyone! I actually enjoy listening to people who are disappointment in a game that I personally love. CrossCode was that game in this collab.
And I will never understand people getting actually upset because someone doesn't like something you like. It's sooo silly.
I also regret buying Pokemon Violet. It gives me a headache and makes me dizzy. Thanks for the great video!
This was excellent!!! Absolutely loved it - also DAVID hahaha, always making me laugh!!!
My RPG regret was Disco Elysium. I tried my best to like it but it was just too hard to understand for me

This was an excellent video guys. Right on!
I'm sorry! 😂🤣
Speaking of which, Dark Souls 3.. ❤️
If anyone wishes to know why I didn't like ds3:
I like the soulsborne games for their methodic gameplay, I like the lessons they teach you and that you literally have to be prepared to try and try again.
Switching job classes is indeed tiresome but it has a good payoff when you can learn some useful skills from that class.
I think the same way about xenoblade chronicles 3
This is incredible! Hahaha, can't believe I missed this vid with DavidVinc! He left no crumbs.
Jordan!!!!!!!! Wow!!! Miss Bubbles always has everyone I watch on the daily. David was hilarious in this as well lol.
Ah. Yes. Kinda agree with FE Engage story. It's weak. Combat is a lot of fun though.
All we need for the next fire emblem game is a story as good as three houses and gameplay/map design as good as engage
@@jeveritt8398 Engage is my 1st Fire Emblem and the combat really blew me away. Im gonna get 3 Houses next. Just waiting for it to go on sale someday. Heard a lot of good things about 3 houses.
@@Ser-Smiley awesome I hope you enjoy
Yeah it's a shame about the story! Had everything else going for it :)
The Cloud Strife rocking up to fight Sephiroth in shorts comment didn't age well. That Costa Del Sol shot of him of a segwey 😂😂
I remember lmaooo
Happy to have you on board! 🫧🫧
Emily chose violence lol
CrossCode’s my pick for greatest 2D game I’ve ever played (and I’m a 90s kid)
As a 90s kid myself I really wish this clicked with me! I just couldn't with the controls & some of those redundant awkward puzzles. Maybe I'll give it another go someday 😅
He was the best designer in the Rpg Maker community somewhere around 2 decades ago. Playing his newest game was a dream and an honor.
All I've watched in this video is completely valid
In my case, my RPG regret would probably be either Tales of Arise or Triangle Strategy. Both of them were pretty disappointing as a Tales and Team Asano fan. FFVII Remake too.
Aw, Xenoblade 2 is on my Top 10 games of all time, the story, music and characters are top notch but if the combat is what makes you quit... I get it, it does take a while a understand but when it clicks is one of the best battle systems ever made, but the tutorials are really bad
... haha
And for the one who didn't liked ToCS, I don't know why it didn't felt slow for me, I actually loved every bit of that game, enjoying the school trips and getting to know each of the members of class VII.
As for me, the games I cannot get into no matter what are the Dragon Quest games, I find them very boring... sacrilegious I know, but when I liked the spin off series more (Heroes 1 and 2) and managed to finish those but not the mainline games says a lot. 😅
OMG David was hilarious 😂
I lost my shit watching him at the start, so good 🤣
My bigger regret is all the fabulous RPGs that I simply will never have time to play.
My favourite Tales games is Berseria
As it should ❤. Best combat is still Graces F though.
Ah! Tales of fans! I salute you. 😊
My favorite Tales is, Arise, Vesperia and Berseria. Arise best gameplay, Vesperia best exploration and Berseria best story and main character. Velvet is badass! 😋
@@Ser-SmileyHaven't played Arise yet. Loved Vesperia too.
Berseria characters are so good, I'm gonna play Zestria just to play Eizen's sister 😂
I might play it again if there are cookies involved 😃
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was one of the best games I have ever played in my life
Happy for you!

This is how you play xenoblade 2:
First you let your characters attack not moving them unless it is necessary, letting them charge their abilities.
What you want to do is use break→topple→launch→smash
In that order.
I actually considered choosing Dragon Quarter, because I really disliked it. But my memory about it was so vague I couldn't say why I didn't enjoy it.
(End Rant)
I too was disappointed with Star Ocean 5 and Suikoden IV. I hate those shorts too 😂 lol.
Miss Bubbles: I HATE Dark Souls.
LOL cozy farming sims are like the OPPOSITE of Dark Souls, like literally everything about Miss Bubbles is the opposite of Dark Souls hahaha
And funny enough I just bought Elden Ring and gonna try it 🤭
Great collab vid!
NO!
Xenoblade X was like a whole other life for me, spent at least 200 hours it was amazing. Didn't need to be like 1, it was it's own thing
@@eeeeggnog._. It bored me to tears. I'm not a Gundam fan.
@aphillyate1 neither am I. But no other game has a world anything even close to Mira
The game that I regrets buying is Xenoblade Chronicles 3 it was a chore to play couldn’t relate to the story
Resonance of Fate on the PS3. That game was just dreadful to me
This video is like the avengers all together
i regret buying these RPG
-Xenoblade 1 and 2
-Tokyo Mirage Sessions
-Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
-Pokemon Legend of Arceus
-Neptuina Super RPG
-Star Ocean: The Last Hope
-Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness
-Tales of Zestiria
-Witcher 3
-Dragon Age 2
but i got mine reasons
Witcher 3, the agoooonyyy 😫 jk jk 100% we all have reasons
@@MissBubbles everyone who saw that they want to kill me XD
For me. My biggest RPG regret would probably be Dark Souls. As I just suck at it. I admire anyone who plays it and beats it but I am too bad at it
I am currently 100 hours+ on Xenoblade 2, it is an engaging game once you master the basics. it can be overwhelming and confusing at first and has a pretty bad quest tracker system. but I still think I will finish it. Don't forget there is 2 game with separate stories under Xenoblade chronicle 2. Try playing that one. I heard they improved it. I am on to it after I finish this one. second game is about a golden couintry
Do you think I can still get into the story if I skip 2 and play Torna instead?
@@MissBubbles yeah. that is different game.
Why tho
Same feeling with starfield! Please give it 20 hours it gets good… nope 👎🏾 overhype mess
Originally a Wii game in Japan.
that opening skit was hilarious' and this video was good.
As a trails/Kiseki fan I absolutely agree with him, CS1 is slow af, however we have to agree the just played P5 thing did impact his opinion
I indeed agree with him to an 80% extent but yeah such gorgeous game like P5, followed right by a PSVita game… yeah no
Discovered you through Emily. Happy to’ve done so.
I did enjoy Pokemon Violet tbh regardless of the graphics, glitch and frame rates ...
I think CrossCode is meant foe PC so it may be better there...
Jordan cameo 10/10
My regret is Drakengard 3... 1st game in my life where the framerate actually gave me a migraine... I ended up just watching a story recap video...
