The EMB 120 will train you quickly to tolerate turbulence. When I worked for an airline that primarily operated those, that was some of the roughest flights I ever had flown on in my lifetime. I believe you're one of the few reviewers out there who's reviewed a Brasilia and I'm here for it!
BTW please do not stop making these trips in historical context. It both entertaining and educational! Maybe on in the future traveling around the "Pacific Ring of Fire"?
It’s funny, that (exactly) is in the top 3 of my choices for my next big trip like this. Getting around the limited flight schedules in the South Pacific makes it a bit challenging but definitely something I’m looking at.
The history of this journey is incredible! Your research and putting together the story are much appreciated. This series is definitely unique among flight reviews and I can't wait to see the journey beyond Australia!
Interesting thing about Darwin is the city has been destroyed twice. Once during World War 2 where, over the course of 2 years, the Japanese bombed it and many towns across Northern Australia. Then a second time in 1974 when Cyclone Tracy hit on Christmas Day and completely destroyed the city. Very sad Christmas for Darwin. Quite the resilient little place
music keeps getting better!....and thanks for the history lessons and scenery instead of interminable discourse on food/wine/points exchange/lounge amenities et al like those other travel dudes!
Awesome video, absolutely loved the background information and the 'smaller' planes/routes. Too many other channel already cover the 'standard' stuff. This is much more interesting and this def sets you apart from any other channel. Keep it going!
Great video as always, Kevin. I really appreciated the brief history of Darwin! It's also good to see an airline that I personally have never heard of before.
Amazing flight review mate on an international turboprop flight out of Australia that is few and far between! Darwin has some of the most peculiar and interesting flight routes to try in Australia in my opinion most certainly including this hop up to East Timor which is also served by QantasLink with supposedly even Aero Dili are starting flights soon too I hear!
Really interesting video thank you. Qantas resurrected the Darwin stopover on the Kangaroo route during COVID when WA shut its borders for an extended period stopping the Perth-London flights too

Excellent video Kevin. Thank you so much for this episode. I grew up in Adelaide and Dad used to take us to the airport for plane spotting when I was 'little'. I have fond memories of looking at and marveling at the Vickers in the hall in which it used to be housed.
7:00 "Only 9 of us flying, which is a record for this channel" - I certainly have you beat in that department, if not any others! I distinctly remember a 3-passenger super early morning LH FRA -> ZRH, which struck me as really unusual for hub-to-hub. There was also a 2-passenger (including me!) Cape Air essential air service flight but that feels like cheating. Great video, even as an Aussie I'm not at all familiar with this with this route and airline so it was very interesting.
The video was very entertaining and I love the educational history which you never get in any other videos - I particularly loved the…. hmmm Carib Indian music choice too 😊

Very historical video Kevin! But I still feel now a lot of Australians go to Darwin and NT so it does still get a bit of tourism! Also pleas come back to Australia and do produce more content here especially hotels!
Loving the comments this flight inspired. As a kid who bounced around Canadas Arctic…this is a big plane, the seats are plush, what a toilet!? But sound of a prop … the adventure starts! Thanks.
Enjoyed this and, for the record, really appreciate the historical context you're bringing to these videos. I flew the other Air North, 'Yukon's Airline' this summer from Vancouver to Whitehorse on one of their classic 737-500s and on to Dawson City on their ATR-42. I believe the only thing keeping Australia's AirNorth and Canada's Air North from suing each other is the space or lack thereof in their names.
Instead of suing they should form an alliance. Air( )North frequent flier programme, seamless transfers between flights, codeshare TL and 4N flights. Make for a fun press release and a bit of cheap publicity.
Damn, the restroom window used to have a view. It was literally one of the best windows because it was so far in front. Anyway, that was years ago, so it may have been a different type of plane.
Years ago I flew to Dili on an Air North Metroliner and return on a Brasilia. I didn’t know they were still using the Brasilia in 2024. Yes that toilet is a shock but the view over Timor-Leste is spectacular.
Scare north from beautiful Larrakia country. I’ve taken a scary flight from Darwin to Tennant Creek via Katherine. The smaller the plane, the more chance I feel I will fall out!
I'll be honest, the lack of security checks for NZ's turbo prop flights is what has kept me from trying them in the past. When they change that up, I'm happy to try.
@@tfft That's alright. I completely understand and agree with you on this regard. I am also baffled on why there are no security checks for passengers boarding/flying on turbo props domestically. At Auckland domestic terminal I see passengers flying to destinations like Wellington, Christchurch etc on a jet plane like A320, they all had to go through security check, but not for turbo prop. I think it has to do with the actual Auckland domestic terminal itself. Lack of space and not enough room to install all those security check points.
Always fun to see smaller airports and operators - a series on them would be enjoyable, but as you say, it could be quite the undertaking! Just out of interest, how come we're getting the Hyatt Regency Bali review before the flight there? Do resort videos generally do better when released at weekends or suchlike?
My hotel and flight videos generally don't line up at all. Usually the hotel videos come well after the flight. If there are times when they might line up, I try to make them do so.
Hi mate, thank you for your interesting video. I wonder how long will these old turbo props stay in service? And what are some of the cheapest routes to experience them?
