Adventure is what she found. At a similar age I used to love hiking alone. Being prepared for weather changes and having more food and drink than you need, along with basic first aid and emergency kit. I never needed help. I was hopping deep into the ocean cause that’s the only way I could not drown, so jump up and go down hard to get to the sand so you can jump up hard and take a deep breath and repeat, so I was pretty far in the ocean, not that much since I was kid, most likely 9 or younger, but still pretty far, and I would have kept going, if when the last time I pushed myself down I felt nothing. Be aware the weather can change in an instant in an area like that, the clue for me was the crazy wind and stormy clouds in the first clip. You did the right thing turning back, I guess you learned some important lessons, like have the essentials to survive outside for at least a couple of days ie some light weight rations like cup-a-soups, packet noodles, water, energy bars, a light weight portable camping stove, fuel, a means of ignition, lighter, or matches, cotton wool to start a fire, an emergency sleeping back and light weight bivvy emergency shelter, torch, whistle, some warm light weight gear, like gloves, hat, thick dry socks etc A fully charged phone with a powerbank that will give at least 2 full charges from empty. Have someone else know where you are going and have a time setup you will call them to let them know you are back and safe, if no call they will arrange help. You did the right thing sharing this experience because a lot would go out there without any preparation or gear.
As an avid kayaker, I always check-in with paddle boarders with “Did you start upwind or downwind today?” They usually look at one another like: “I dunno…” First-time paddle boarders at launch often start by heading downwind first because it’s a nice free assist, but then they get pinned or pushed back when they turn around. It’s good to see you went prepared.

I noticed as soon as I saw the water and sky at the beginning of your video that you were going to run into trouble. Then the time you spent on the island further endangering you and your pup. Always watch the sky and water, and keep an eye on your time. Even in Summer I have a rule of breaking camp by 3:30-4, 2:00 during summer rainstorm time. Not worth the risk. Life is meant to enjoy. Example: A dear friend of mine and I, both of us fit, he having been a mountain water baby his entire life; me grew up in the mountains then down to the coast, surfed, taught sailing, rowing and canoeing on the ocean growing up. We went canoeing up Green River Lakes, WY, portaged, then crossed the second (first) lake, had lunch and headed back. At the onset, I’d tried to warn him to turn back earlier as a cross wind was bound to come up, and he blew me off since he’d canoed there over 40 years. I warned him again about current and wind changes common anywhere after 2:00-4:00, especially at higher elevation, and he said he ALWAYS had a wind to his back on return to the boat ramp area. Well…..needless to say, there was such strong cross and front winds on the main lake, that boaters, jet skiers, paddle boarders and kayakers were ALL up on the E side of the lake, trapped at various places, looking exhausted. We dug in deep, water coming over the front and sides of the canoe at times from the waves yes waves that came up from wind and cross currents, and I remember being halfway across, looking to the W and E shores and realizing if we capsized, the current was pulling to the rocky W shore and the E too difficult to swim to, let alone the low water temp. I would have been screwed, especially with no thyroid (think no thermostat). I started to get scared, calmed myself, then used that energy. I hunkered down deeper into the canoe, and kept digging while my friend did the same while steering bless his heart. People on the shore were watching us, on the ramp with binoculars, and were shocked when we finally made it. As was I. My arms were rubber for two days. 🛶🏔️💦🌬️
The first 3 seconds of this video made me start thinking of the danger…….. I’m so happy you were prepared and had the sense to turn back. The exact thing happened to me and my son in 14-foot perception kayaks, he was only 12 at the time and we had about 4.5 miles to go back to lake side camp from an island we went to have lunch on.... beautiful when we left our camp, made it over to the island, had lunch, and explored. While getting our things together, the sky suddenly and unexpectedly darkened. Later in the day now, we had to make the push. It was absolutely brutal. We're having 3 and 4 ft waves popping up everywhere. Wind coming from every direction... obviously, we ended up getting back to camp ... safety. Point being , always be vigilant, always have a backup plan for the unexpected in nature. It doesnt take much to derail your plans very quickly. Stay safe and alway continue enjoying all the world has to offer
This is so important because this story could’ve really ended badly if she wasn’t prepared or no one came around that could help her. Many lone travelers end up in precarious situation because of lack of planning! Stay safe out there

PFD ... powerful fart device?
Lightening also a concern ?
So glad you made it home safe, bless those kind souls😇
Good decision.
Good packing.
Good follow through.
Good communication.
Very wise woman. It’s good to know that she was prepared for almost any eventuality, but was able to get back safely.
Wise? She literally took a risk by still going paddle boarding risking the poor dog’s life and hers by paddle boarding on a super windy day. It wasn’t random like she says, look at the wind when she’s inflating that thing. 🤦🏻♀️ That’s the opposite of wise!
Not wise at all. More like stupid. Stop trying to get you & your dog killed, eaten by predators or assaulted😢
Yeah no, that was not wise. That was a pretty stupid thing to do, hopefully she's learnt her lesson.
These are the types of videos people need to share! Glad you and doggy got back safe!
Thx for sharing. Brave and highly appreciated ❤
I see no reason not to post. You went for an adventure. Things went slightly sideways but you were prepared. Got lucky and were able to be rescued.
Shit happens outdoors. That’s why we prepare. To me it seems you did everything right.
Thank you 🥹
People really do not understand how dangerous kayaking can be I fished a very small stream from a flowing reservoir and had no idea the spot I launched was 1000ft from the waterfalls. Long story short I was thrown from my kayak in sub 40 degree water. For some reason I couldn’t seem to swim up and re surface. I almost drowned, when I was helped from the lady nearest she told me 3 people have drowned in that EXACT same location evidently something to do with an under water current hole. Sucks you down. This was a body of water no bigger than a strip mall. ALWAYS wear a life.jacket please folks
Adventure is what she found. At a similar age I used to love hiking alone. Being prepared for weather changes and having more food and drink than you need, along with basic first aid and emergency kit. I never needed help. My worst was missing the last bus by 10 minutes (I saw it passing) and having to walk an extra 9 miles back to town for work the following day. Yeah. I was very fit back then.
Also a good reminder to pay attention to those around you, if they’re alone, or look like they need help. Or if they seem unprepared and inexperienced. You could save someone’s life❤
Except for understanding what time of day the wind picks up and underestimating her ability to get back to safety through a big swell - she’s lucky she made it back to post a tok
Glad that there were nice ppl around to help and you were safe❤
The odds of running into a bad person are a million to 1
Big water, little boat. I'm not surprised. She shouldn't be. Yet wrote it off as a learning experience.
Posting this is a valuable lesson to anyone, things can go wrong in the blink of an eye. Glad you are safe as well as the pup.
I'm so glad that you got your dog a life jacket! Thank you for sharing this!
You understood your limits and didn't jeopardize your guys life😊 good job momma bear
Super great go/no-go decision making process! (Myself, I look for _any_ excuse to stay overnight! 😂😂) But great job thinking it through - you're setting a great example for folks!
@@nealcassady1189 Actual weathet can be quite different than forcast, especially in convergence zones. Mountain conditions change quickly and here in the PNW, where things look nice, wind on lakes can kick up without warning... she did everything right.
@@nealcassady1189 She specifically said in the video that the weather was supposed to be good. Were you rejected by a brunette once, and now you hate all women?
Yea i swam far out in lake okanagan and when i stopped i felt something rub against my feet , i never swam faster in my life back to shore lol 😬
Pure fear went through my body at the idea I was at a cliff in the ocean and all the predators that weren’t close to the shore are probably there. Immediately when that happened I swam back to the shore, never went deeper then my chest ever again after that. When I think about it my feet start to tingle.
Just Ogopogo saying, ‘hi.’ 😁
@@41052I used to live in Port Clinton near Lake Erie, so I would always go swimming. I remember one time i was swimming and a sharp thing rubbed up against my leg. I immediately swan back, but it was so nerve-racking bc swimming fast is hard.
Yeah it must've been either a freshwater shark or a Canadian Crocodile
@@christinamann3640It still makes me laugh that the Canadian version of the loch ness monster is *OGOPOGO*
The name alone strikes fear into any mortal man
good to hear she had prepared for an overnighter, excellent.
Sounded like you were very sensible, well prepared and not pushing against the elements
Always make plans for emergencies, and practice them when you don't need them.
Practicing can make all the difference! It’s so vital to test out gear beforehand because you never know if it could be faulty
You’re a very clever woman. I’m proud of you for being so intelligent. We have folks here head up the mountain in flip flops. No gear whatsoever. The ten essentials spoke to me. Tell us about the ten essentials. I’m watching from Calgary. Thanks.
glad your ok! outdoor people can be super helpful glad you got someones attention to help ya.
*you’re
*someone’s
This was a great share. I lost two college friends who were kayaking together in Maine doing the exact same thing as you and your dog did. Except my friends didn't make it. Being careful and safe is so paramount. Glad you two are safe. ❤️
Be aware the weather can change in an instant in an area like that, the clue for me was the crazy wind and stormy clouds in the first clip.
You did the right thing turning back, I guess you learned some important lessons, like have the essentials to survive outside for at least a couple of days ie some light weight rations like cup-a-soups, packet noodles, water, energy bars, a light weight portable camping stove, fuel, a means of ignition, lighter, or matches, cotton wool to start a fire, an emergency sleeping back and light weight bivvy emergency shelter, torch, whistle, some warm light weight gear, like gloves, hat, thick dry socks etc
A fully charged phone with a powerbank that will give at least 2 full charges from empty.
Have someone else know where you are going and have a time setup you will call them to let them know you are back and safe, if no call they will arrange help.
You did the right thing sharing this experience because a lot would go out there without any preparation or gear.
As an avid kayaker, I always check-in with paddle boarders with “Did you start upwind or downwind today?”
They usually look at one another like: “I dunno…”
First-time paddle boarders at launch often start by heading downwind first because it’s a nice free assist, but then they get pinned or pushed back when they turn around.
It’s good to see you went prepared.
The funny part is I was against the wind on the way there and then it switched in the afternoon. Which apparently hardly ever happens here!!
@@MadisonClysdalee - I hear that! Here in Arizona, the winds seem to come from all directions! 🌬💨🐍🌵🦂 Good to see you’re well prepared and willing to wait out the weather too. No need to rush back and risk it. 👏🏻

@@MadisonClysdaleethe main takeaway is that you were prepared to safely spend the night, should you have been stranded there. Personally I'd have been like *oh noes! I'm going to have to camp out here with my doggo! How unfortunate* in my best sarcastic voice as I set up my shelter and start dinner 😊
@@gabescoffieldoh yeah anywhere near a waterfall is extremely dangerous like the amount of pressure underneath and immediately surrounding the fall is crazy. good thing that lady was there to snap you up.
My husband and I camp in the eastern sierras and kayak on Mono Lake, there are winds that pick up after noon every day. Needless to say, we always make sure that we are off the lake by that time, lakes are no joke! It’s good of you to share this because people tend to think that lakes are not dangerous.
Doing ANYTHING by yourself in the wilderness is no joke.
Also, huge props to her for being prepared for an emergency and to survive! You go girl! I honestly will not go on an adventure without that😂!
But I’m sure a lot of ppl wouldn’t know or even be ready for that
Mommy😍
I think it's magic that you got outside and had a go where most people just do nothing but watch from their computers. You retained enough humility to not cause yourself harm and had an unexpected boat ride too, and maybe made a new friend. Sounds like a great day.
This unironically is gonna be such a good motivator for me to bring the ten essentials in the future. Glad you made it safe back, but also badass that you were prepared to stay if need be
Glad you made it back safe and to see you prepared makes me happy, we never know how conditions can change so fast.
That guy is so nice helping you out. And your adventure looked amazing, wish I could do the same but I have a fear of deep water.
Greetings from Poland.🇵🇱👍
Very glad you’re safe and I’m happy reading all these supportive, positive comments.
Nothing to be embarrassed about sister. You packed prepared and sometimes shit happens. What an adventure glad you're safe❤
So glad you actually wear your life vest! I see so many people in Lake Michigan with it on their paddle boards.
Glad you found a good person to help you out young lady. Pray for the best, prepare for the worst. BE SAFE, love your dog. USMC
I'm so happy that you were able to get back to safety and you and your adorable dog are safe and sound!
Glad yall made it back safely you inspire me
Early morning is when the waves are the calmest. Afternoon is when they pick up momentum
most important thing...is to always use the buddy system & have someone with you.
pups was there
People are SOOO lazy now a days! No one wants to do all this, or they're such a burden/debbie downer that you don't even want to bring them.
I don't know if it would have made much of a difference in this scenario, if they both went on a board.
You realize there are people who prefer doing things on their own as well right? Having company isn't the safest. Being prepared and situationally aware is.
Solo advenrures are some of the best. Don't live in fear. Be prepared, aware and enjoy the solitude. You don't know what you're missing!
This is great. Even if you’re only 1/2 mile from civilization sometimes SHTF and you get stuck. Always be prepared, especially when going into the wilderness.
Example:
A dear friend of mine and I, both of us fit, he having been a mountain water baby his entire life; me grew up in the mountains then down to the coast, surfed, taught sailing, rowing and canoeing on the ocean growing up.
I'm glad you're ok! Thank you for sharing, that was very insightful!
What a crazy adventure. Looked like a easy day in and out and it turned into a potential survival situation. Glad it are turned out well.
I’m jealous of the amazing life ur dog must have
I’m glad you and your pup were ok. How could you have known?❤ Glad that nice man helped you out. 😊
That's why you have to check conditions before you head out & if it looks sketchy before starting wait it out before starting.
Before crossing the first time, she commented on & filmed how windy it was 🤷🏻♀️
I think it's very important to double check the weather forecast before going. thank you for sharing
Thanks for sharing. That's must have been scary - well, I felt scared for you! So glad you found some help :)
Really glad you got help from those lovely people. Could have been a uncomfortable unplanned camping experience. Be safe and careful out there
Those winds come out of nowhere on Okanagan Lake. Glad you were able to get back safely!
The first 3 seconds of this video made me start thinking of the danger…….. I’m so happy you were prepared and had the sense to turn back. So many people lose their lives doing fun adventurous things but go about it foolishly 😞
Well done and thanks for putting this out there, I’m happy you and your pup are safe !!!!!
Anything that raises personal awareness in a survival situation is always a good post.
You had your essentials with you, so that’s great to see. Glad you’re safe!
You admire your adventurous spirit 🙂
The kindness you put into the world always comes back to you 💖
He’s an angel
When you are influencing others through your experiences, we need to hear the challenges, scary parts and your resilience through the circumstance.
Things happen sweetheart but you were smart and safe! Glad you guys had safety jackets on. ❤
That’s such kindness from strangers! So glad you are safe!
its canada, what do you expect??? them to say NO SCREW YOU "pulls out gun" BANG BANG BANG" (she was seemingly aggressive and reaching into her bag so i had no choice but to shoot)
That man told her “Gas or Ass”.
Kind of you to share. Bravo young lady. Thank you to the folks that helped you and your dog out.
Glad those kind folks were able to help you. I’ve had that happen before but luckily it was a small pond so I could find my way back to a road from shore. Must be much scarier on a bigger lake!
It's great that you left your filming unit on the land so that you could always come back for it irrespective of the weather 😂
This story scares the living crap out of me! Praise God thing's turned out ok. 😮 ❤
You are so brave theirs no way that I’ll be doing that on an unknown place. Greetings from Australia
Please, please be careful. So glad you were all safe.
Thank you for sharing this video…about safety and being prepared with the 10 essentials for survival and using them to camp if need be. Most videos are of something ridiculous and something they did that was stupid. I can tell that you are an intelligent person and you should show more videos about being safe. Thank you!
You and your doggie are true survivors!
lol
Good job! You did what was needed in the moment, for you and your pup!😉❤️
P. S. I’m sure the boat driver is happy to have a story to tell about the time he helped a beautiful girl and her beautiful dog get to shore!
SO GLAD YOU ARE SAFE AND SOMEBODY RESCUED YOU. GOOD PEOPLE STILL EXIST IT SEEMS.
I've never heard a better idea than bringing a dog to a place called rattlesnake island
Dog gonna get bitten too many times lol
No, I appreciate the share. Yeah, I can understand the backlash from this, but this just goes to show anything can happen and always be prepared.
I’ve just recently found backpacker, UA-cam shorts. Definitely thinking about getting into it this year. I’m gonna go through the videos and see what your bag consist of.
Thanks
That was so scary thank God someone saw you out there always good to let somebody know where you are
So happy you had someone to help you ❤
Thank you for sharing! 🙌🏻 that’s why I follow you: you’re willing to be authentic, even when it’s sharing things that have gone wrong.
I wish everyone would put there pride aside. Safety & being prepared always has to be priority.
Really appreciate your videos. Very much a public service. The 10 essentials are paramount. There has to be lines of people that would live to go on these adventures with you, but I truly appreciate the need for alone times in the wilderness. It's cathartic and spiritual.
She's beautiful and intelligent! Being a dog lover is a plus.
Stay safe out there
As soon as she said. I'm gonna paddle to that island 5 miles away and that wind was whipping... My first thought was bad idea as a man. She's lucky people were around to help her out of that bad choice.
Definitely worth of sharing!!! This did show exactly what to do and how to be prepared for weather/plan changes! You did really well!!! And got yourself and your dog to safety! Excellent job! ❤️❤️❤️
So true, ppl pass away every day from doing things like this and not being prepared, great advice!!❤
