John Beaudin has been in major market radio (Edmonton, Vancouver & Calgary) for 35 years and a music journalist since 1989. He graduated from Broadcasting school as a newsman so he would have the skills to write about the artists that inspired him since he bought his first Elton John album as a teen. In the '80s Beaudin was the host of the syndicated radio show “The Cross Canada Report” which had two versions (Rock and A/C). Beaudin was also asked to be a judge at the Juno Awards (Canada's answer to the Grammys) Twice. He has anchored every position in radio including morning and afternoon drive and was a Program and Music Director for The Breeze and California 103 in Calgary. He currently hosts the popular Lovesongs at QM-FM in Vancouver and on iHeartRadio.

The fact that Madonna is in the rock hall of fame and grand funk railroad is not proves how bogus it is!
Ido ‘t understand Madonna either; but had GFR stopped at WE’RE AN AMERICAN BAND I would be smh at their absence too. As far as I am concerned, they sold out after that recording; for my liking - they lost their gloss.

Madonna is the Queen of Pop and has influenced many female artists, past and present. Madonna was one of the top artists who owned the 80's and the 90's. Like it or not, Madonna is more well known and has had more of an impact on music ,fashion, and pop culture. So it makes sense that she'd be put in the R & R Hall of fame.
I'd forgotten about Kansas but, "Grand Funk, BÖC, Steppenwolf, Foghat, Kansas, April Wine, The Guess Who, BTO, Frank Marino, Pat Travers, just off the top of my head and I could probably sadly think of much more the RRHOF is a "JOKE" (Madonna, RUN DMC, Greenday) are inductees ??????
vxy357 I could see it if she was rock and roll, which she’s not even close. I could see her in the Pop HOF. Rock and rollers of my generation listened to Kansas, Foreigner, GFR, Sammy Hagar, Billy Squier, UFO, now that’s R&R, not Madonna, Ice Cube.
It is well known in the Seattle area that Roger Fisher is one of the nicest rock and rollers you will ever meet. I dated a girl many years ago who hung out with the band in the late ‘70s and she said he was really nice to her and not in a creepy way. With that set up; several years ago a I was filing up my car and a guy comes up in a really nice Jaguar and starts filling up right next to me. I complimented his car and we started up a brief conversation and he graciously held out his hand and said “nice to meet you, my name is Roger Fisher”and he introduced me to the lady in the car with him as well. I mentioned that my old girlfriend worked for the band and he was so happy to hear that she was doing well etc. After about 10 minutes of talking about guitars and cars, his companion was like” hey we need to get going” and she sheepishly said “we are late to everything”. That reinforced what I had always heard about him, and it is a treasured memory. It is too bad the band’s personalities didn’t mesh beyond 1979.

The problem was that Ann and Nancy thought they were Heart. They didn't realize that sound came from ALL the members. That's why they kept firing everyone.
Yep . . . totally down-to-earth with people. I made a comment on his guitar build on UA-cam, and he personally replied explaining what he did and why . . . and was totally nice.

Roger was in 10 Bulls (quite a come down) playing at Totem Lake Shopping Center, in Kirkland, Washington, at a place called the Sitting Bull Pub. I was there with my great friend and (at least) Seattle-famous Heavy Metal guitarist. He had a business relationship with Roger. I had just had my hair badly cut by 'Pam' in "New Wave" style, but she couldn't cut hair. She'd never been trained.
This was in Roger's cocky days. He somehow knew my name, and said GEE, NICE HAIR CUT, ALLAN! But, it was a good thing actually, as I got it fixed, LOL. Also, I was very drunk so it's hard to say how mean or sarcastic Rog was. Could be he was real friendly and shocked by my shitty haircut.
Good to hear he is a nice guy after all these years.
Howard Leese was the smart one. He said why would I want to get involved with one of the girls in the band when there are plenty of other women out there.
Roger was the best guitarist Heart ever had. His riffs and solos made the songs legendary. So glad he made it back on stage for the induction! He really proved himself.
The blonde Wilson sister is not a bad guitarist, either.

It is bogus but I have enjoyed some inductees. The year Heart went in was a great year with Heart and Rush being inducted. Yes was the next year (i believe) and that was great also. Geddy Lee playing bass with Yes on Roundabout. Classic. f you cannot have Squire then having Lee on bass with Yes is as good as it gets.
I saw Heart in 1977 and it was one of the best live bands I've ever seen. They've never been as good without Roger and Michael and Steve.
Amen! Roger is a very underrated guitarist but he is one of the best! Very original! He could shred but he played what was best for the song and that's what really matters! 😁
1979 Dog & Butterfly tour, still to this day one of the best shows I've seen...Derosier is SO underrated, he really sounded like Bonham
The lost their hard rock edge after Roger Fisher and Michael Deroiser left. It was the end of that era.
Don't forget Ann saying those guys had no clue, had no talent and forgot their chords etc etc. Pure BS, so the guys form Alias and have Gold and Platinum albums. OOOOps. Heart died for me and most of my friends when they forced out or threw out the original musicians.
BULLSH*T! Ann and Nancy Wilson have always been the “heart” of the band and will they have been just fine without them!
There was such a HUGE difference in thfor sound when Mike and Roger played with them on stage. They came alive again and were HEART. As soon as the newer members came up to play as Mike and Roger left, they did not sound as good. If they knew what was best for the band, they would put on their big girl panties and talk with them, let the healing and forgiveness begon, and reunite. I truly believe they would hit it big again.

I couldn't go, but I still think those girls need me. I know they re-organized the band as sisters,
something I understand as they kept it going all this time, and like you, I can hear the difference.
The first guitarist was more into Steve Howe. I'm Jimi Hendrix and George Benson.

I wish the wilson sisters would realize the Roger was very important to the sound of the band. They never sounded the same after he left.
Roger was THE funky seventies sound within that band. Without him, they have NEVER been as good. So sad that he isn't part of that band today
Roger knew what to do with Ann and Nancy's songs the same way Lindsey Buckingham knew what to do with Stevie's. Heart was never the same, never even remotely as good without him.

Bebe le Strange was the end of the best of Heart.

Roger Fisher is one of those rare rock guitarists with a totally unique, totally original style, and you can count me among those who think an important element of Heart's sound left with him. As much as I hate to use the "U" word, I think Roger is criminally underrated. _Criminally_.
Criminally underrated-absolutely! No one can play Heart songs as well as Roger. Just listen to theit current lead guitarist play Magic Man and then listen to Roger. No comparison whatsoever.

I have stolen so many of his riffs... Dude has always been one of my favorites.
Listening to Roger play, he reminds me a lot of Don Felder [Eagles]. He's got that fluidity, feel and edge to his playing. Great guitar player

I agree with that. But back in those days, no one would have thought about not getting with each other in a band.
But the Stevie/Lindsey situation isn't exactly the right example to use, since they were together before they joined Fleetwood Mac.

@@Deborahtunes Also, Stevie Nicks was brought into FM by Lindsey Buckingham. FM wanted him to replace Bob Welch and LB insisted that he and Nicks were a team and he would only join FM if they also hired Nicks.

I was 15 when I first saw Heart in 1977 at the Cape Cod Coliseum (MA). They were the backup band for Dave Mason. I was floored at how phenomenal they were. Since then I've seen Heart 18 times, Love Mongers 8 times, and Ann Wilson's solo projects 7 times. After Roger Fisher, Steve Fossen, and Michael Derosier were gone it just wasn't the same. Then Howard Leese was gone and it was more of an Ann & Nancy show with hired guns calling the band "Heart". Don't get me wrong, I am a true blue Heart fan, but nothing compares to the original lineup of the band. One of the best shows EVA!!! Wicked Awesome!
Without placing blame, the simple fact is that we want that magic of the original band.
The old saying "Don't shit where you eat" The fastest way to lose a friend or a job is to get romantically involved. Rarely does it work with exception of Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo of course Bruce Springsteen and Pat Scialfa.

The proof was right there ..from the opening note of "Crazy on You". THAT was the sound. THAT was the feel. THAT was the band! Roger, Steve and the two Michaels have never received the respect they deserved for their unmistakable contributions to Heart's career. The current band is unlistenable for me.

Would’ve been cool to get Michael Derosier’s take as well. Such an underrated drummer. Perfect fit for the band. Rock solid timing-fills. Michael provided swing-swagger to the band.

Well what was his take on it gonna be? Yeah I banged my singer who happens to be my guitar players longtime girlfriend.....He may have been a perfect fit for the band, but he betrayed both Roger and Nancy. And he knows it. But he doesn't care. The fact that he never apologized proves it. I hope he feels ashamed of himself. He could've had any girl back then. Why Nancy? How could he have not known the fate of that move? This was all so long ago. 1978/79 if I remember right? So who knows...

Thanks for interviewing the Fisher brothers. Saw them with Heart in 1978 at Champaign Jam at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento. Sammy Hagar, Jeff Watson Band, Walter Egan, The Randy Meisner Band. It was a great show. The Fisher brothers period was the best era of Heart. So many great songs. My favorite is "Mistral Wind".
I attended that same show! It was the second rock concert I'd ever been to. Sammy Hagar, as always, was way too loud, I think it gave me tinnitis tbh. Also it was Bob Welch, not Walter Egan, when "Ebony Eyes" was on the radio.
Being an 80s male teen, I was all about Heart and the MTV era. I could watch and listen to the the Wilson sisters all day. Alone and the much underrated Who will you run To?, were and still are, two of my favorites.

I can understand why Ann pretty much avoided Mike. He did after all leave Ann for another woman. That type of betrayal can leave lasting emotional scars.
yeah if you're the type of person that has made a living smarting from the injustice of someone else but I'd be willing to bet the universe had a completely different plan for the over fed brat & she's cutting her life experience short by harboring a resentment this long... when Roger left the group Heart lost it's beat and for me, died. grow tf up wilson sissies.

It's easy to be a fly on the wall...this is THEIR history. Sure we're fans of different degrees...most of us are likely men. Woman are different, intoxicating beings, generally more emotional, with their own kind of memories...not gonna take sides or try and rewrite their history.

It is childish. The fact is she clearly never loved any man after that, or she would have gotten over it. Is her ego so big she will never get over the fact that he fell in love with someone else? If she truly was happy with anyone after this, there is no reason to hold on to that lame anger. And certainly no reason to project it out as a grownup who has mental stability.
Met Roger in 1973 and saw the band many times then, best club band ever and Roger was definitely the driving force on stage, they would do five sets at the club gigs with set 2 or 3 being all Led Zeppelin songs done perfectly.
I am sooooo jealous! That would have been beyond amazing to have seen them in clubs. I saw them in '77 and '78 and beyond, but '73-way cool!
@@DCB728 They were called "Silver Heart" then, toured up and down the west coast in the larger clubs, played five 45 minute sets with a middle set being all Zeppelin, and they carried their own quadraphonic PA system that sounded unbelievable. The girls were fantastic, Howard Leese played keyboard, Fossen on bass and Roger was full throttle with a Marshall stack, BEST club band ever by far.
From what I've saw and read about, cheating was involved. An almost sure fire way for a woman to always have disdain for a man for life. Not judging, and I feel what Roger is talking about by healing an old wound, but I think your forever on a person's S%#t list if that happens.

John, I am looking forward to more interviews with Roger and Mike Fisher. Maybe you ought to also ask Nancy, Wilson, Howard Leese, Steve Fossen, and Mike Deroiser too for an interview ?
I will say this about Roger. One thing I always respected about him was his honesty and openness about the fact that his dismissal from the band was almost all on him. His drug habit and inability to deal with the disintegration of his romance with Nancy made him more of a liability than an asset. He's totally cool with admitting that. I think the reason Mike was tossed aside was more complicated and contentious and as a result he carries more bitterness. But the performance was truly magical, Roger really looked like he was having fun up there.
I think perhaps Mike did not love Ann with the same intensity as she loved him. Crazy on You and Magic Man were about him as well as many other songs in which she laid bare her heart. They were together for 11 years. He fell in love with someone else and was too cowardly to tell her; instead he let her find out. He. Broke. Her. Heart. But all Mike can say is it was odd.
As for Roger throwing his guitar whether at the wall or at Nancy - that was violent. But Roger talks about how he didn't have the words to express himself without acknowledging that he scared the living daylights out of Nancy.
The original Heart lineup was and still is my favourite version of the band. Roger and Nancy made some awesome magic together, and I'm sorry it didn't end well.

I get your point but isn't it ironic that Ann ended up marrying a guy who was accused of choking Nancy's kids. Of course, that incident has really put a deep rift into Ann & Nancy's relationship as sisters.
06/30/1978 I saw Ted Nugent, (tour album support: TNT '78), & Heart, (Little Queen), co-headline, with Cheap Trick, (Heaven Tonight), & Journey, (Infinity), at Milwaukee County Stadium. Billed as The Grand Slam Jam. Ticket was $12.50. Mike Fisher was the manager & his brother Roger the lead guitarist of their band. Ann & Nancy Wilson joined the Fisher's band & the personal relationships started. Roger found out that Nancy was dating drummer Mike Derosier, & that is why he threw his guitar. When it came to recording Bebe le Strange album, Roger said: "There were no parts for me to play." The girls said: "We wanted to kick the brothers out so we could take control of the band." By the way, all the bands were stellar that day! Steve Perry, Robin Zander, Ann Wilson & Roger Fisher. With Ted climbing on his amplifier stacks while playing like a mad man. Are you kidding, $12.50!
Something that bothered me when I saw the performances...there was the original lineup and then the new band. Someone somewhere made the decision to have the original band play Crazy On You and the newer band play Barracuda. Intended or not, that was a b*tch move since the main riff and soloing for Barracuda were originated with Roger and the song as a whole was a band collaboration. To then basically tell them 'yeah, you're not playing that one'.......reeks of salt in the wound. Regardless, I'm happy that everyone from the original band received their due recognition. Roger and Howard had a great sound and complemented each others playing. Steve had great musical bass lines and Mike was fantastic drummer with impeccable timing, fills and when needed, nuance. Mike was my vicarious drum teacher back in the day. A belated thanks to you Mike!! Great times back in the mid-late 70's. Heart was my soundtrack. No matter the circumstances, I'm glad you were all able to make some music together again!

Loved seeing Heart get into the HOF but why on earth would Ann & Nancy scoot the other original members (who had just played "Crazy On You") off the stage to have their "current band" play a screwed up, off-tempo version of Barracuda? Fans were waiting decades for the original band to perform together again and I'm pretty sure they wanted to see them perform their signature song Barracuda. not the latest collection of Ann & Nancy's studio musicians. I know the ladies think they alone are "Heart" but while their talents are undeniable, that band was NEVER the same after the original members (especially Roger Fisher) left. The Wilson sisters should have gotten past their over-sized egos and given the true Heart fans what they wanted that evening.

I wouldn't know, as most of my friends and I had Heart die after they dumped the original guys because they couldn't play, then went out formed Alias and had Gold and Platinum albums, oooops.

The Wilson sisters don't even get along with each other!! Hearts 70's stuff is stellar and their foundation!! The 80's stuff is glossy by the numbers production and execution and pales when compared to their 70's catalog!! 🎸🎸🎸
Hey, these guys took a few minutes during their lunch to have a conversation. You'd not be so uppity about it if you were sitting across from them-which essentially we all are here. Relax. It's an informal dialogue for fans, not an appearance on "Meet the Press".
Interesting hearing Roger talk. I'd never heard him speak before. I saw Heart in concert in 1980, after he left. I was 16. They were amazing. Long time ago!

Communication is sometimes SOOOO hard. Sad that these wonderful artists have that history hanging over their heads like that. Heart is still today one of my favorite bands.
Why are Ann and Nancy still nursing a grudge, resentment and hate after all these decades? Your band is called “Heart”. Show some heart and forgive and forget. We are all just human. Then reconcile and tour w the original members as a gift to the fans. Set an example for the world. Forgiveness feels good and creates more love.
I mean, you have no idea what happened. These guys might have been abusers and they certainly cheated on them. Don't know why you would want to forgive someone like that

I remember watching Heart get inducted and you could “feel” the tension on the screen. Almost cringeworthy at times! What a shame! Some bands just can’t bury the hatchet no matter how many years!
I watched and was extremely impressed with Roger Fisher's playing. Also,looked to me like he was really into playing those songs again .If the sisters were uptight, well maybe the years of success has just gone to their heads.I'll have to watch it again and see if I notice the sisters looking uptight.

Well, before all of the " they should get back together" comments, let me just say " it ain't gonna happen".
They don’t need to get back together. They are famous and the Fisher brothers are not. They took Heart and made it a great band. The band is Ann and Nancy. Other musicians are replaceable/interchangeable. The sisters are the talent and the vision of Heart and what ever other projects they get involved with. If the Fishers were as talented they would have done the same.
Roger Fisher is NOT replaceable/interchangeable! Just because the Wilson sisters are more famous than the Fisher brothers does not mean they were any less important to the rise of Heart. The band was already very successful and famous before Roger left. The current iteration of Heart is a pale imitation of the '76 Heart.
@Michael Reardon - Sorry for the late reply here. But I just saw a UA-cam video where Ann and Roger were actually on stage together at a recent concert. But no Nancy.
I have no use for my ex wife and don't have a clue about her life after the divorce. When I filed, I told her that all ties were cut. I was luck to not have had a child with her. I also had an ex girlfriend reach out to me years ago who wanted to rekindle our relationship but I basically told her it wouldn't work. Several years later, she found me on Facebook and reached out again but I didn't bother to respond. In all honesty, I hope their lives are wonderful but I don't feel the need to hold on to the past. So, I have a lot of respect for these guys stepping out on stage.

This was the era that formulated Heart's greatness.......afterwards they sounded like everyone else......nothing special.
Michael's pivotal role in Heart is unquestionable. It's also documented extensively in the Kicking & Dreaming book, by Ann, Nancy and others. So it's astonishing, and a little pathetic, that it wasn't recognised during the induction. That said, like many others I question the significance of the RRHOF. Heart certainly don't need that validation. Some bands which should have been recognised still have not, while others generally considered less deserving have been given the nod.
Man these people need to get over it. The original Heart band broke up when I was in Jr high school and I am an old man.I can't even fathom holding a grudge from back then.
You could absolutely see the glaring differences between the original band and the Heart of later years when both lineups performed at the HOF induction. It was HUGE. There was 'magic' with the original lineup...

Co-ed bands all seem to have these problems--Heart, Jefferson Airplane/Starship, the Mamas and the Papas and Fleetwood Mac. Its like they all had the same soap opera like VH1 "Behind the Music" episode. They have internal fighting because the men in the band are sleeping with the women in the band, and when they break up, the band almost breaks up! Poor Grace Slick was tossed around the Jefferson Airplane like a rag doll, slept with almost everyone except Marty Balin! Well, at least, I think The Pretenders and maybe Blondie didn't have those issues

Actually, Chrissie and Pete Farndon were an item. For a time. But she wrote with James Honeyman-Scott. When Pete OD'd Chrissie didn't know what to say/how to comfort his mother at the funeral. By THAT point I think she'd been involved with Ray Davies. Sorry to nerd out here. I mean no aspersions. Chrissie and James music alchemy was magical.

I saw Heart on their Bebe Le Strange tour in Sacramento in August 1980. It was just an amazing show. It should be noted that Firefall, Eddie Money, and Huey Lewis and the News were in the line up too.
Oh man. I remember that. My brother and I went around saying "Bebe le strange" in a sort of Inspector Clouseau accent for quite a while after that. I know that sounds silly, but thanks for reminding me.

I can completely understand why some have written the induction was all about Rush. However, I have been a big fan for both Rush and Heart from their earliest days and first albums. As much as I can understand your post. Rush had none of this type of stress to be together again for one huge night. Would you like to be on stage with two women that caused so much drama and hatred from a once very pair of loving relationships? I’m glad Rog chose to play, but I was and still am saddened that his brother and band manager in those days and long before the Wilson sisters became band members to have been ignored and forgotten. I’m also curious how it felt for Mike Derosier, the drummer of Heart into the early 1980s who was seeing Nancy behind Rogers back which is part of why he went so insane at the time. Since the last original member Howard Leese left. The Wilson’s have never once given credit to all the work and creativity Steve Fossen (original..original bassist of Army with Rog and his brother Mike years before. Not once in any interview and I have copies of them all in video and written form did the Wilson’s discuss how they were not part of the original band. Not once about how Ann talked Nancy out of finishing college to join the band. Not once about about how so many of a big hits were co-written with Roger and sometimes with the entire band. Not once mentioned how Howard Leese composed, and conducted all the orchestrations heard on their first four albums. Never once an explanation why Howard stayed with the Wilson’s after everyone else left. Howard said on camera backstage that he felt angry toward the Wilsons for most of the reasons I’ve already written. Worst insult of all is when Ann and Nancy say that THEY started the band, when that is a blatant lie and not a single interviewer has ever called them out on the truth about the origins of the band. I’m glad they and Rush made in in the same year, but it’s a truly screwed up club to be nominated in. I can’t think of the first insult of completely pointless non rock people have been entered into the RRHoF. You don’t see any of these bands inducted into the Motown hall of fame, or any other style of music that clearly is not rock. That’s been the real tragedy and every year...like all award shows...they just keeping more and more stupid and pointless.

Heart's music should be classified above 'Rock n Roll'! A lot of what is in the R&R Hall of Fame is not up to the standards of Heart. They write and play music. While others are screaming lunatics. Heart is what it says...Heart!

Hard to believe that after all this time there is still drama. But Ann and Nancy have even had their own issues with each other. But it is good that they could all agree to come together for the induction ceremony as the original band members. The Fisher brothers should be thanking their lucky stars they were even included because there have been quite a few iterations of Heart through the years. One could say the real band has always been Ann, Nancy, and Howard Leese, since he’d been with them the longest.
If Roger Fisher never left the band, HEART would have been a LEGENDARY BAND !

Even more so when they're in the same band.
Not entirely different from the strain between exes Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks in Fleetwood Mac.
As time went on, the strain between them grew, especially as Stevie gradually seemed to be taking over control of Fleetwood Mac.
Lindsey made it abundantly clear he couldn't remain in the band with Stevie running the show.
Is Fleetwood Mac the same band without Lindsey Buckingham?
Obviously not.
But if one's working conditions become untenable?
Can't really blame Lindsey Buckingham for abandoning ship.
Even after 40 years, though, obviously there would still be tension between the Wilson sisters and their exes, the Fisher brothers.
Mostly, I would suspect, because when those marriages ended, so did the Fisher brothers' involvement with the band.
I also thought they were fired, but, even if they left voluntarily?
It would still be a tense reunion, even 40 years on.
Not really helped by the fact that Ann's current husband is quite the control freak asshole.
He was the problem that came between Ann and Nancy, causing the two of *THEM* to end up on the outs with each other, and breaking the core of Heart up.

I was surprised Ann allowed him to come between Nancy and herself.

But all in all, Heart was legendary anyway, regardless of whomever was in the rest of the band, primarily because of the Wilson sisters, and especially Ann's female Robert Plant vocal fire power.
And because Nancy asserted more creative control herself, as their song writing partnership grew.
The question I have is, what became of their long-time songwriting partner Sue Ennis?
Sue was usually the lyricist for the band, kind of the unseen third member of Heart.
She was in Lovemongers, the acoustic side band of Heart.
I seem to recall there was a fairly significant falling out with Sue, as well, bringing that long-time partnership to end...?
But maybe that's not correct.
The other thing I wonder:
Other than Ann Wilson and Mike Fisher falling in love and being in a relationship, and Ann following Mike to Canada when he dodged the draft up there, what role did Mike Fisher play in Heart?
He was in their orbit, but...
He was never in the band.
He never wrote music or lyrics with them, as far as my research has shown.
In short, other than being married to or involved with Ann Wilson, what did Mike Fisher contribute to Heart?
Roger says it was unfortunate, at Heart's Rock Hall induction, that nobody mentioned Mike's involvement with or contribution to the band.
All my research on Mike Fisher has shown zero involvement from Mike in any way with Heart, other than being Roger's brother, and Ann Wilson's ex.
In Roger Fisher's bio in Wikipedia, it mentions that the original Heart began life in 1963 as Army, with bassist Steve Fossen, and Mike and Roger Fisher.
Army became Hocus Pocus, then White Heart, and finally Heart.
But no mention is made of what Mike Fisher did in the band even back in its formative years as Army.
And Mike has no Wikipedia entry just for himself.
Other than being the guy who got permission to use the name White Heart, there's no mention of Mike Fisher as a musician, or anything other than being Roger Fisher's brother.
Was he the band's manager?

What was Mike's role?
What was his involvement with Heart, other than being Roger Fisher's brother and Ann Wilson's love interest?
(Also, contrary to popular belief, Heart is an American band, not Canadian, as many people assume.
They first gained fame in Canada from touring there, but Heart was born in the Seattle/Vancouver Washington area, not in Vancouver, British Columbia, as is often mistakenly assumed.
No knock to Canada meant at all.
Many of my all-time favorite rock bands are Canadian, and nearly all my favorite television shows are either Canadian, or filmed entirely on location in Canada.

Anyway, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for members of these successful groups to keep each of their individual massive egos in check, and still make it work.
I've heard the members of The Eagles quarreled constantly yet stuck with it and in the end, came together with a great product; Same with other bands (The Police were notorious for this as well) while others don't.
The 4 former members of Kansas (RIP Robbie) often make surprise guest appearances joining the 2 remaining original members, while the newer members of the band are thrilled to perform with them...
The band was never the same after they left. I was lucky enough to catch them live in the early days when they were still hungry and trying to make a name for themselves. Heart could rock hard and play some nice tasty softer acoustic stuff.
Bring back the original band!
Personal issues aside, the band was never as great after these guys and Michael Derosier left. I’ve enjoyed Ann & Nancy many times in concert, but I rarely listen to anything they recorded post-Bebe le Strange.
Exactly the album I dropped them on...not mentioning Micheal D. was simply petty of the whole group, if one person forgot, did they all ?? Saw this band back in their hot sh*t days and Micheal COULD do Bonham and was great to watch as well. They were killer Live !

Heart was first band I ever got into when I heard Crazy on You on a Ktel collection when I was 8 or 9. I enjoy both their 70s and 80s incarnations. Their 70s recordings were musically stronger, but their 80s and early 90s pop rock on Capital was very entertaining and enjoyable. Their return to their roots/21st century material is not as strong, but I really enjoyed the Fanatic album, but the other 21st century albums, where they are attempting to recapture their 70s sound, are a bit lacking though some of the songs are good. I don't see the point of a reunion now of the classic line-up. I've seen footage on youtube of the Heart concerts from last year when Ann and Nancy got back together after a couple of years away due to the family rift caused by Ann's husband. Both of their voices have eroded, but given they are both in late 60s that's to be expected. Worse was the lack of chemistry between the two. Nancy tried to rekindle something, but Ann just seemed to be there for the money, especially as her solo album and tour in 2018 didn't do well. If the sisters can't get it back together, then it's too much to expect them and Fisher, Leese, Fossen and Deroshier to iron it all out. It's a bit sad how things have turned out, but I'll always cherish their music and earlier performances.
That is the sad part about it. Even if the original members got back together to record it would be only a shadow of what they used to be. Heart, Kansas, Grand Funk, they could all get together but it wouldn't be the same as the glory days. Let's just put on some old records and enjoy.♥️
I have lived in Victoria on Vancouver Island since 1974…There was a little bar downtown called The Brown Jug and in about 75 - 76,an unknown band was playing called Heart.They happened to be recording their first album, Dreamboat Annie in Vancouver.l must have seen them a half dozen times over that period of time…Amazing then and amazing now…They are now rock royalty and they deserve it.
Was a great band back in the '70's, however, what made Heart was Ann and Nancy! With any other guitarists and drummers, they would have still been successful. It was Ann's powerful vocals, but more importantly, it was the songs written by Ann, Nancy, and Sue Ennis!
I never saw Heart but in 1979 they played Aloha Stadium I think on a Saturday afternoon and our ship was having a crews party at the welfare and rec park at the time. It was like less than a half mile from the stadium. They were blasting the place out. Pretty cool. A few of us had tickets to see Boston that summer, but for some reason we didn't go. We ended up seeing Chicago. Saw Fleetwood Mac and ELO in 1978 at the old NBC Arena.
That original Heart lineup was a juggernaut back then. Got to see them when I was in high school. Later saw Roger with Ten Bulls, you know, Rosburg. And just chillin' at the mural stage, Bite of Seattle, listening to some band.

At the risk of being a naysayers, at 4:40 where he says "there was no single person more responsible for the success of Heart than Mike...", I have to tell you that without Ann's dynamic voice, there would've been no Heart.
I think Hearts popularity suffered when Roger was asked to leave. He was a great guitarist. Howard couldn't hold a candle to him. Speaking of which,why did Howard leave? I've seen all the band changes and have to say Heart was at their best when Roger was there. Those first 4 albums. But actually Be be Le Strange is one of my favorites. Roger got credit on the title song. Ann s voice,Nancy's acoustic/rhythm guitar and Rogers lead guitar made that band. Howard was ok but no Roger. Most of the focus was on Ann s voice and Nancy's guitar after Roger left. Still a fan but the 70s Heart was the best.
I'm not sure Howard left willingly. Heart took a break in the late '80s and then the Wilsons reformed the band with different people. While I think the band was hurt by going for outside songwriters and generic "80s" production, I do think that Howard was better on keyboards than guitar.

Rumor has it the Leese/Andes/Carmassi line-up were let go for negative talk about Ann's weight gain.
Howard Leese was still touring with Heart, which had become Heart Featuring Ann Wilson, in 1998. Nancy took time off from Heart to try to have a family. Following the end of the 1998 tour, Howard got an offer to be Paul Rogers’ guitarist. Since Heart was on indefinite hiatus at that point, Howard was free to join Paul.

In the seventies we really didn't know how great these women are. Hope you too find your peace in the future with these girls. From the RRHF performance, it becomes obvious..Roger Fisher returns, the chemistry returns. His lead guitar during Crazy On You, he kicked ass, playing like he never left the band. The reunion of many decades, appreciated by all except maybe the two women on stage with him. Then they perform Barracuda with multiple guest guitarists, except of Roger, makes no sense. I think we all wish the two sisters would get over it and welcome the original members back into the fold.
After Roger left, in my opinion, Heart lost its edge. Sell out is not the right term, but they went more "Pop / Top 40 " oriented. They were very successful in their change of direction, no doubt about that. I liked their early albums. Greatest Chick Band EVER!

Ann and Nancy are fine singers; arguably they might have been better in other genres of music. They themselves say at various point in their excellent (mainly) audiobook biography, that they both preferred singing other styles originally (folk, singer-songwriter, Elton, etc.) and took awhile to come around to hard rock. (Probably, realizing they'd only make huge money in hard rock.)
Don't get me wrong I like much but not all of Ann's 70's singing. But like someone else wrote below, Roger was THE connection to the times. In the 70's, you needed a force on lead guitar and Roger delivered big time particularly on Dreamboat Annie.
His playing, even if it was based at times around other soloists (Page) was the glue that was required and I'd say Fossen, too; just great lines. His bass was a key factor. Derosier was fine; a huge Bonham influenced guy (look at his kick). Leese too, was very important.
I'll be blunt, without those dudes, and particularly without Roger, Heart would never have made it - unless luck blessed them twice and they found three other people that were as perfect for them which seems virtually impossible.
Fleetwood Mac recorded Rumors when none of them were getting along, they were pros and put the music first. Rumors was one of the top albums of all time. Every single became a hit. If they could do it these fools should have been .ore mature

I dont find Roger to be "completely full of himself". He knows that his contribution to Heart was considerable and is confident in that knowledge.
Hall of Fame? Really? No Bad Company, Paul Rodgers, Ted Nugent, Grand Funk Railroad, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Robin Trower, Ozzy as a solo artist, ELP, the other members of KISS, etc...

No disrespect toward women, but many of them are notorious for holding grudges for years and they never let you forget it. They also can leave you holding the bag in a way that making amends is impossible to do. It seems like Ann & Nancy might be living in that realm.
