I was sitting on the edge of my chair as you held a snake in one hand and a rat in the other. Not even a twitch from either. Not something I'm used to seeing. Friends today. Mortal enemies on feeding day lol. Your rat colonies look superb. Very clean healthy looking rats.
I like your design and will be building one soon. My question is how do you keep them from escaping? Looks like theres a big open space above the tub that they can crawl out.
they are 1x2 2x3 are a bit to big i think . i have never had a problem using 1x2, and the plywood really helps the tubs slide nicely because it adds a much needed support. In general materials i use are 1.1x2 i usually need 15 per rack, for a 4 level rack 2. 1/2" mesh 3. Mixing tubs 2'x3' 4. casters/wheels...makes moving something so heavy really easy! 5. 1/2 or 5/8" CDX Plywood to help support tubs- OSB like plywood will not work as it is not solid.
New rodent breeder here, thanks for the video lots of good intel. Is it possible for you to release a materials list and guild step by step to build that rat rack?
Hey forsure no worries. Ill try to make a video on it soon but ill share materials list with you right now. List is really simple 1. 15 1x2 studs(home depot) 2. 5 mixing tubs 24"x36" (home depot) 3. 2 sheets of 1/2" plywood (if you decide to use it as a support for the tub, use solid plywood not osb, mdf, hdf, or compressed ply)-home depot 4. 2 1lb boxes of 2.5" gold screws -home depot 5. 1 lb box of pan head screws (these are used to attach mesh to framing)- home depot 6. 2 rolls of 1/2" metal mesh (try to find 24" x 60" rolls) - home depot 7. Casters/wheels - home depot - really really recommend this. Pretty much it, if you have any questions you can reach me at my IG at clutchxreptiles
@@ClutchXReptiles Sweet man I will be excited to see if you make that video. I'll take a note of the materials list. What kind of wheel casters do you recommend? also I followed you on IG! I can mess you there no problem!
I remove them when weaned and reintroduce a male or if i have lots of females group them with a male wait until they are ready to drop again and repeat place them solo
gotcha, so you remove all the females until they are all ready to breed again? That's really smart, at times I get babies at different times and sometimes pinkies die off because female rats rather feed the stronger older babies
asf are to say the least are the most challenging u dont remove a member of the colony. They are so caring and protective i dont find them eating their babies at all.
I breed All three asf, rats mice. I learned how to breed with rodent with mice with great success. I started from the beginning removing pregnant females ready to drop by themselves because I have absolute control and surveillance of which moms are great and which ones are Not.
Nice set up! Did you build the snake racks also?
