Forging The [Lothric Knight Sword] - Dark Souls 3

- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Forging the Lothric Knight Sword from Dark Souls 3. We did a series of live videos on instagram asking what video game piece we should make next. We talked it out and decided as a group to build the Lothric Knight Sword. This is a hand and half long sword that is said to be the best straight sword in Dark Souls 3. It is said to be a great thrusting and cutting sword and after we forge it we put all of those things to the test in the demo where we test how well it can thrust with both 1 hand and two hands as well as its cutting ability. We forged the blade from 1045 and 80crv with a sain mai construction to give the blade maximum flexibility and cutting performance. We forge welded wrought iron to make the guard for the Lothric Knight Sword and we forged the handle out of pipe on the little giant 50 lbs power hammer. In this video we show you our Evenheat kiln and how we use it to heat treat as well as showing our brodbeck ironworks grinders and how versatile they are. We show off our brand new Harris Torch at the end when we use a brass wire wheel to coat the steel fitting of the sword to give them an antiqued brass finish. Perhaps one day we will get to spam r1 on the new Play Station 5.

Build Roronoa Zoro's three katana from one piece
I first subscribed to you guys because of Artorias’s Greatsword. I’m glad to see more DS weapons.
привет всем I still want you to make the sword of ra's algul and the sword of azraile and make glamgring Gandalf's sword that's it for now
Loved that short verdict at the end, was about to ask if you could do that! Maybe you could extend that bit in the future and compare the weapon with similar ones you made?
Hessian's sword and axe from sleepy hollow
Hey that's me in the into! The weapons is basically a religion in dark souls 3 pvp at this point...
I am linking your comment Prod. Please notice me sempai.
Cookie the Dog’s face haunts me even in bladesmithing videos... I can’t escape her grasp!
Now you can r1 spam in real life too.
I thought on tagging you til I saw your comment

@@ThatWorks Where do you guys source your titanite?
well hello, fellow compatriot from Astora. what brings you to this lands?
"Prithee be careful"
I mean, I think it's fair that a normal person would consider it a two handed weapon, if you think about just how ridiculously strong the protagonists from Dark Souls can get to be.
Lol, imagine wearing Havel armor, and then try to roll
@@zimantis2191 Imagine wearing Havel armor, period. I'm pretty sure a normal human being wouldn't be able to stand with that thing on.
ASNS117Zero I’m willing to bet that we could stand in it. Might not be able to roll, but you have to remember that there has to be space for a human in there.
@@wyattben123 stand ? yes. Walk ? nope. :D
@@wyattben123 Depends on how much the armor supports itself. If that armor weighs as much as it looks like it should, I.E. several hundred pounds for just the breastplate, ain't nobody wearing that thing unless it can literally hold itself up.
24:44 That is the most adorable-sounding power tool I've ever heard. It sounds like it could come from some very annoyed fluffy cartoon creature.

If someone request a Gaels Greatsword we must be prepared for extreme "specific techniques".
Oh please NO....NOT what becomes of the Gael!
I would love to see this
Try thumb,

This build was sick guys, thanks for showing me the pipe smithing and the pommel as well as the guard welding, never seen that one before :)
You are welcome. Glad you found something that you can use in this build
8:28 This is actually Ilya's normal work speed, they usually have to slow the footage down for everyone else to keep up. #slavmuscle
BeardedDanishViking truth
VERY fast Ilya smithing at incredible hihg speed
18:34 that sound is actually the shutters of the high speed camera working to keep up
The reason why he so fast is because he practices in bed.
Well that explains a lot
I love watching the brass-brushing. It's so immediate how good it looks.
It's quite satisfying to do !
@@ThatWorks Does the brass ever wear off? I imagine its like a metal paint job.
One of the Coolest designs i’ve seen for sword smithing in a fair bit. Simply love how flexible yet strong it is. The blade geometry has to be brilliant to allow it to abuse the hell out of all those targets, AND still avoid any critical blade problems (like a warp, chipping, or other problems). Since, it’s both a flexible and a solid design, boys this thing is dangerous.
It will kiilll.
Just as it does in pvp

Trust me...I did at first too -Matt
@@ThatWorks I have to ask, how does the vinegar fit into aging the blade? A reaction with the etch?
@@colekenney2965 it's basically an acid etch, which will darken it. I believe using the dirt makes it less of a uniform etch.

I wasn't sure what you meant until I saw it. That "technique" made my eye twitch.
“And then we’ll do some very sophisticated techniques”

I should have said Slavic techniques
@@ThatWorks Lots of S's.. S'? Sssss.....
The sound the hammer makes when you're forging the pipe sounds like King Arthur's coconuts from Holy Grail - "You've got two empty 'alves of coconut and you're bangin' 'em together!"
Yes it does a bit. I like the sound. It helps keep rhythm while forging.
In Mercia!? Coconuts are tropical!
What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
@@gwallace5403 European or African swallow?
It's about weigh ratios. A 5 ounce swallow can't carry a one pound coconut.
The Lothric Knight straight sword is the Heinz ketchup of straight swords.
It is clearly the Grey Poupon of straight swords. The Long Sword is the Heinz.
@@WolfHreda I thought it was Heinz vs. Huntz? Grey Poupon is a mustardy type thingie right? Ketchup... mustard... now I'm hungry. 19:19 "Matt sniffs the sword to determine whether it has reached Heinz or Grey Poupon in quality, if it's Huntz, we have to start ALL over."
Can't tell if this is a compliment or an insult
Such an elegant sword - the range, the scaling, the wear on the R1 button.
I'm so glad you made another Souls weapon and you chose one that is both iconic and works in real life.
I would love to see the silver knight straightsword from ds1. That's my all time favourite sword from any popculture ever
So sad that both it and the spear weren’t brought back for ds3
That is indeed a gorgeous sword!

*Stomps the blade into the dirt*
I’m flabbergasted that Ilya made a mistake!!!
Thank you for making these videos! I was almost all set up to make blades. Odin is a very good friend of mine who was going to teach me in place of me letting him use the forge. I ended up with a screwed up neck needing a few surgeries that ended my bladesmithing dream. And Odin moved away.
So I have a forge that does nothing. Just two blades that Odin made for himself. I just wanted to make Striders knife in Damascus steel usable in stead of the J20 stainless that my LOTR Windless Cutlery show blade. Alas, although I have a basic forge I can no longer afford to do anything at except dream about that knife.
Getting older too. And weaker since I can’t use my arms as well and now have very bad lower back problems. But your videos give me great comfort and my dreams come alive through you all and the videos you share. I’d love to see a challenge between one of your blades vs an Angel Sword blade sine I cannot stand Daniel. He’s such a grifter...
Forged in fires fueled with the screams of parry gods getting their cheesy rolls caught.

@Dharc Daniel by the gods fear it, Laurence
uuuhh my favorite blade in all of the souls games, I was not disappointed on the contrary that was a damn beautifully crafted blade, although it looks a bit bigger than the ingame version.
The proportions are about right if they took the npc version. The player version is proportionally smaler.
@@dearcastiel4667 Yeah that's true, I was mostly thinking the player version, guess I am a tad biased since I spent a good 80% of my DS3 time using it.
@@dearcastiel4667 then again, the npcs aren't human sized, they're... I don't know, but the player character is human sized, i'm not sure going for the enemy npc proportions was right... Also the "spikes" are a bit more closer to the point than in the game, but other than that, it's a damn fine looking sword.
Thats just because we are so small
@@ThatWorks That makes sense, thank you.
Lap-welded tangs get my historical accuracy tick of approval
I really love the educational value of these videos. And I have the utmost confidence in the precision of the historical facts.
not only the best straightsword, but also probably the best of all weapon in the game. i love how the sword looks like not in pristine condition. Amazing details.
An executioner sword if possible. Either a normal, historical one or Gael's
Make the sword... then for Geal's, break part of it off. If stepping on and burying this one hurt 'em, that would kill them
Ælec Eoforheard one of my fav swords to make
I still hope for general Kael's sword from Willow.
@@marcusc9931 or the Pata Mad Martigan takes from Eric to kill Kael.
Just make Gaels greatsword in that case.
Great build! Videos in this format definitely scratch the old Man at Arms itch. Looking forward to more content like it from you guys and from AWE Me. And now that Forged in FIre is inviting champions back for Beat the Judges, I would love to see Ilya compete again.
Love the Lothric Knight Sword. I got it to drop in my blind run of DS3 when I killed the Lothric Knight at the High Wall the first time. It was a SUPER lucky drop, and I started using it once I realized it was the Baller Swag Sword 2.0. It's definitely the best straight sword in the game. It's got great damage and scaling, and it's moveset is excellent, but it's range is where it shines.
It would be cool to see you make the Tonitrus from Bloodborne. Hands down my favorite weapon in that game.
That is hands'-down one of the most aesthetically pleasing swords I've ever seen. Well done!
I really enjoyed the little bit at the end that explained the handling characteristics of the weapon. You guys should do that more often!
The end result is absolutely gorgeous. Maybe you could do the Lothric Knight Ultra Greatsword somewhere down the line. Or just go all in and make the Fume. Granted no one would be able to use it, but it would be cool nonetheless lol.
Just imagine Andre coming in there and seeing this set up, he'd be proud.
It's always great seeing a Dark Souls weapon made IRL. One I'd personally like to see would be one day would be the Drangleic Sword. (I know, requests aren't made here, just stating the one I'd like to see.) In 2 I always liked how fancy some of the greatsword's moves tended to look, so it ended up as one of my favorites.
Wow you can actually tell in video how even that heat was before you quenched it. Very nice I see videos all the time where you can see the brighter and darker sections of the metal before the quench and I always wonder about it
Usually when I look up the name of a souls weapon on youtube, I get a weapon showcase. But today I get surprised with this fun watch instead! Great work boys!
Normal human: This seems be too big for a single handed weapon.
Guts: I asked for a sword, why you give me a dagger?
Laughs in Fume Sword
@@montecrysto33 Both underrated comments, stay safe all!
Fun fact actually about this sword and Berserk since you mentioned Guts- the Lothric Knight sword is actually just Casca's sword from her time in the Band of the Hawk.
How about Sir Radzig's Sword from Kingdom Come Deliverance? It's another historically accurate one and it looks really nice!
The one Henry made in the beginning?
@@ExtremeGummyBear I believe so, the engravings are fairly intricate so it would be difficult
That could be a good one!
An excellent one, but I wonder how hard it'll be to get the rights since they licensed out to a smith to make them for the limited edition.

I have wanted this sword forever, but I didn't know till now the whole channel story so I never found you guys till now

the fact that the Evenheat kiln is so well insulated that it can be 1500 degrees F inside, and you can touch the outer shell is fuckin nuts. thats some crazy good insulation

I’ve been watching Forged in Fire: Beat the Judge. Ilia is a champion of FiF, I’d love to see him face a judge.
Thank you for not running the fuller down onto the tang! Excellent work as always guys!
To whoever is doing the audio mixing/editing, there's one point just a lil over halfway through the vid where it isn't hard to hear the commentary per se, but it isn't as comfortable of a listening experience as it could be. Otherwise I'd say it was good all throughout.
Pretty glad you guys are on your own now. I like the video format more now. Has less of a Hollywood-like feel, it's more personal-feeling.
Agreed. I found the sound levels fluctuated three times, most noticeably between music and dialogue sections. Enough that I had to keep tweaking the volume, to avoid waking my landlady's daughter.
Love me some Dark Souls builds. I would say Fromsoft made some beautiful games in the last decade. They really deserve the praise they get. For a build suggestion, what about something from Kingdom Come Deliverance? Might try Henrys sword
There are a few people asking for this
I had high hopes for that game. Is it any good ?
@@ThatWorks It is definetly something different, kind of an old school RPG, where you start as an absolute 0 without any skills whatsoever. But the game will teach you the basics through series of quests and you will start to understand how things work. World design is amazing, tho I might be a little biased, since I live in the area, in which the game is based about. Storytelling and humour is too, really good. Definetly worth the shot, its like $15 now on steam
This definitely has a rating of wondrous on the titanite scale! A very cool build to see would be the Onyx Blade which can be obtained by defeating Sir Vilhelm in the Painted World of Ariandel. It's one of my favorites and I have it maxed out.
I would kill to see someone forge the Onyx Blade! It's so badass looking. But man, will that be difficult. There's a lot going on in that design. I wonder if it would actually be usable too.
@@TitoMcFadden the Obyx Blade would almost certainly not be functional in any capacity. Too many holes
Y’all should collab with the Slow Mo Guys one day to get some amazing slow motion forging footage.
Neat idea ! Contact them and tell them !
The contrast between you guys forging and shaping this awesome blade with bad ass music in slow motion to the shot of you guys stomping the blade in the dirt with no music was pretty hilarious I’m not gonna lie 😂😂😂

Pretty sure you need argent energy to make that properly. Better open a portal to hell.
I would love to see you guys make "Conans fathers sword" from the original Arnold film. The one that was being made in the intro of the film.
I understand that the original sword smith made all the swords in that movie pretty thick and heavy.
I had to blink twice when looking at the views on the vid, criminally underrated work here.
My heart stopped for a second when I saw the drawstring from dudes hoodie while on the grinder!
I would love to see the Infinity Blade, specifically the one from Infinity Blade 3.
The part with chopping coconuts made me anxious. I must be watching too much Forged in Fire.

These videos have a certain resonance about them I think it’s the sound tracks you guys are using it reminds me of the feeling you get in the assassins creed opening scenes, almost hypnotising to watch and really plays on the emotions and theme to the individual builds.
It may not look like that big of a deal, but holy shit I admire Mr. Alekseyev's technique so much. One of the hardest things for fledgling blacksmiths (or at least it was for me) is keeping the steel leveled on the power hammer die and especially doing hammer work on the anvil. I have to do it by feel and adjusting the material, looking to check, then continuing.
Mr. Alekseyev can do this just by feel alone. Without pausing to check. I just think that's incredible haha
I was hoping to see a bit more rolling.
I was tired...
Am i the only one who wonders how often Ilya has either burned himself or wacked a finger with his hammer ?
I think Smough's Hammer is a reasonable build.
