I see the birth of this beauty as a super-production, of course she's deadly sharp and its dark and complex design make me think about an antique weapon used by an ancient civilisation who ruled the world long time ago and its name was "queen of darkness", so very good joob indeed.
I would love to see you guys make a "collection". By that I mean, decide on a specific style, maybe make up your own, and make different weapons (and armor?) in that style. It would be really cool to see a dagger, a sword, a spear, an axe and an armor that was made with coherent artistic expression!
Call it "Hairsplitter". Perfect argument when someone wants to split hairs with you. Also the carving looks like a hair you can find in anatomy books from rounded root to pointed tip. Great dwarven axe, working perfectly with their attitudes: "Splitting hairs, are we. Well let me show you something..."
Realized after the last episode they put out, you guys are what i liked about Man at Arms. So glad you kept going here, their show isn't the same without ya. Gorgeous axe, too.
What a beautiful axe! As for name, how about 'The Nekker'? Neck, as in the water spirit, because the pattern makes me think of the swirling waters of a brook.
Balldur... as in Baldur (pronounced “BALD-er;” Old Norse Baldr, Old English and Old High German Balder) is one of the Aesir gods. He’s the son of Odin and Frigg, the husband of the obscure goddess Nanna, and the father of the god Forseti. He’s loved by all the gods, goddesses, and beings of a more physical nature. So handsome, gracious, and cheerful is he that he actually gives off light. Also fits with the sponsor after all they are ball doers
@@Fektthis Norse mythology, the son of the chief god Odin and his wife Frigg. Beautiful and just, he was the favourite of the gods. Most legends about him concern his death. Icelandic stories tell how the gods amused themselves by throwing objects at him, knowing that he was immune from harm. The blind god Höd, deceived by the evil Loki, killed Balder by hurling mistletoe, the only thing that could hurt him. After Balder’s funeral, the giantess Thökk, probably Loki in disguise, refused to weep the tears that would release Balder from death.
Jesus, man... I see Matt Stagmer at the grinders so much that I almost forget how good he is at forging (and lets be honest, he's a damn surgeon with a grinding wheel). And then he busts out a piece of art like this and abruptly reminds me. Well done, sir.
you put up amazing job forging and creating this axe. since it have an authentic Viking spirit.. and due to the devastation it sheds you should call it: ======================== =======RAGNAROK======= ========================
if we want to stay close to the scandinavian/viking theme i suggest: Elivagar. that is the name of the (frozen) rivers which flow through the world, and whose dripping and rain filled up the void Ginnungagap and later, together with the heat of Muspelheim gave birth to Ymir, the first giant.
Got an interesting name for ya, "Reykr Stál" When you first buried the axe in the stump the lighting and pattern on the blade almost looked like you captured smoke in the steel hence why the name in norse "smoked steel"
Holy cow if you guys are filming yourselves you go home exhausted but your videos are the bees 🐝 knees in production quality as it goes. Lovely professional work
Considering this challenge, I think this should be called the "Hair-Splitter" Also, how did you secure the handle? I didn't think I saw a wedge in the top view, or any pins.
it looks like he put a dark wood wedge in between the center of the handle. If you look carefully at the end, you can see that the center of the handle is no longer white
Often axes are basically self securing due to the forces. So the axe head gets narrower towards the bottom. This way when you swing the force pushes the head onto the shaft. (The shaft is inserted from the wide top)
@@Johnny-lj5ef that’s what they did, like you said earlier in the vid the wood had a larger lighter wood stripe, after it’s done that stripe is now 2 stripes with the darker wood as a wedge.
@@bruney74 there’s absolutely no way you’re getting that handle shape shoved through the top of an axe eye, the shoulder is wider than the eye and the actual handle is just as wide as the shoulder. That works on straight handled tomahawks and hatchets.
I think White River should be the name of this axe. It's lines are reminiscent of the movement of water while its pattern shows the power and ferocity of the white rapids.
"The Carpenter" as the lower part of the axe looks like a whale with its mouth slightly open.... more specifically, it looks like a sperm whale nicknamed the carpenter fish because of the HAMMERING sound it made. Thus "The Carpenter".
Your editing is getting soooooo much better! Bravo! This is literally the first time ive laughed watching the ad placement. Well done. Been following your work since the black flag hidden blade Keep it up!
Matt, this axe is breathtaking! I know you've probably named it already since I'm watching almost a year later but seeing the final product the first thing that came to mind was 'Eaglewing' because of the carving
Axe name: Weeping widow or Weeping maiden Because that carving on the head looks like a back of the girl that is swallowed by sadness and the color of and the lines of the damascus are giving that kind of vibes too.

The Axe name: "Skarpskjegg" literal translation "Sharpbeard". Seems fitting for this axe.
i think this name is not only fitting well ^^ its perfect
Seems like the best name anyone has come up with honestly
Agreed
If anyone struggles with the pronounciation of "skarpskjegg" it sounds like "scarp sheg"
hársnyrtir hair splittrr
An axe, capable of shaving a beard: "The Dwarfs Nightmare"
Dwarfs dread?
Dwarfbane
Beardbane
"Not the beard!!!" - Gimli

WOW, Very nice and well done. That carving as one of your trademarks is beautiful, giving your axe a Medieval Viking look !

The Scaped Matt

Because of the combination of the pattern and the carving, "Windreaver" sounds like a good name.

Call the axe Serpent Breath. It’s got a real World serpent kinda vibe.

Reuben Smallwood of course, a little ode to the master.)
"Beard Cutter" for the name, like in goblin slayer :D

Axe name: The Mattox. A sort of conglomeration of Matt's axe.
