- In this video I compare the Century C308 and the PTR91. This is a side-by-side comparison of the two rifles in a table-top review format. We do an unboxing, and go over general specs of the two rifles. Then I do a historical overview and a muzzle to butt-end comparison of the two platforms. Enjoy!

Sorry the music is is loud during the historical overview part. It did not seem so loud while I was editing! It only lasts about a minute or so - please try to ignore the loud music haha. Sorry and thanks!
MarksmanTV, Nice video Great information. I recently purchased a C-308 haven't fired it yet & really don't know much about it at all., I have heard many horror stories, complaints about the accuracy being so bad & even a few guys here on UA-cam saying there barrel blew up etc. Whats your experience with the C308 specifically, do you believe the stories to be true & whats your thoughts on polishing the BCG to a smooth finish, think it would help in any fashion. Thanks for your help
Any input on centerys new C308’s classic that comes with the wood furniture i here there fit and finish got better and Atlantic firearms is selling that model I’m just torn between how afordable the C308’s is and the perceived quality of the PTR but at double the cost
Seriously, get a proper microphone and study the basics of audio recording techniques and how to mix music into a voice over. This video is completely unwatchable because of it's 1970's amateur VHS film production quality of sound. A constantly distracting buzz or static coming from something in the background, with your mouth so far from the mic the monologue also being distorted on top of that by the echo it now captures and it also makes your voice sound extremely droning. Add on top of that a segment where you mix in music which nearly covers over your monologue and is completely stylistically in-appropriate when combined with the monologue-only intro, and horseshit in all artistic values to boot, so it creates an awkward and off-putting feeling out of the gate.
A proper microphone for your camera and basic sound normalizing techniques with audacity or the basic sound tools enabling this included with most video editors don't cost more than pocket change. And seriously, you need to mix that music to be BELOW your voice-over in level and for your voice-over to carry over the music regardless of it's level, it needs to be a CLEAR take with out this kind of noise in it or you're just gonna make this sick inducing cacophony soup like now by adding music on top of all the noise and distortion your monologue has. (Or you need to at the very least clean that monologue up in the edit. That's not always possible, though. With poor mics and if you place them poorly. Seriously, what are you trying to record? The ambient noise of your studio room, or your speech? Because it sure as hell sounds like you love the static buzz and distorted echoes more than what you were trying to say.)
Seriously, this made me feel nauseous.
It's incredulous that over 136000 people were able to watch this for more than a few seconds. :D
Just skip music. Simple as that. The music adds nothing of value to the video.
The hk charging handle looks just as hard as the cetme is it?
In other words, buy a PTR 91. Thanks for the video!
I wouldnt. The ptr is 1200 used and c308 is 550-600 new anywhere I look. Both use the same reciever/barrel/ parts kits and only difference is who assembles them, muzzle brake and threading, trigger housing, and finish color
PTR 91 is double the price. Its really down to preference.
@@Holret I agreed, I own both and would suggest just buying the C308 and using the rest of the money to buy ammo and mags.
In other words, buy a PTR-91 if you an afford it, but the C308 will do just fine. The C308 is still around a 1 MOA rifle. The PTR-91 is .6 to .8. They are both fine guns, although the Century gun is a MUCH better value.
@@WardenWolf Inspect, inspect, inspect. CAI has had quite a few issues with proper headspacing in the recent past, so you should make sure to bring go/no go gauges with you. Spend that extra $100 and some time to make sure your C308 won't take a hand/face with it, or spend the extra $600 and just get a PTR91 and don't worry about it.
PTR Customer support is 10x better than the other
Wait what century has customer support since when??? LOL
Homefront Amen!
Thing is, on these newer Century CETME's, Century Arms redirects you to PTR after a few questions since PTR made all the external parts. A current C308 is basically a PTR with original CETME parts. Cheaper cost, OG parts easily replaceable with HK or PTR's? Win win for me!
my c308 has been flawless great rifle especially for todays prices.
So has mine. I've ordered a wide hand guard for it those so I can use my HK bipod.
Given that a lot of the parts are made by PTR, I would think they would be similar. It boils down to whether or not you like the Cetme sights. You can get a PTR-91 GI with a rail on top if you want for an optic. For me, I would rather use the military iron sights.
If u get cetme 308 as the parts start to wear out u csn replace them with ptr now u have a cetme shell with ptr guts
@@jeangarcia6432 The current C308's are actually PTR's with original CETME parts, but yea.
As a C308 owner--purchased mine around2917 --I must say this is an excellent video. I learned some new things about the
rifle I have had for almost 4 years.
such a fantastic comparison! great information for shopping the used market! So many questions answered in a concise manner. Thanks
Just purchased a PTR 308 today (10/26/23) Love it.
Very timely that you posted this just now. I am very close to "pulling the trigger" (I'm sorry, can't help myself) on a PTR. Just trying to decide on which accessory model. This video was very informative and helpful on making my choice. Thanks!!
Good I'm glad it helped! I am sure you will be happy with whichever model of the PTR you end up with. They are very fine rifles. Thanks again for watching and have fun taking it out to the range!
the cetme front sight on the c-308 is also adjustable for windage the post is off center and turning it gives 180 degrees of adjustment in addition to elevation mine also came with a cleaning kit and old tubes of oil behind the bayonet lug under the front sight.kind of a cool bit of history.
I own them both and both perform at the same level in every way. The trigger group on the C308 is made by PTR Industries. I'm not sure if all C308's come like that but mine did.
Lough Sun which is better ptr 91 or c308?
PTR uses the Century to make their gun and than they just put their stamp on it. I worked there. BUT -they do not ship out crap.
I'm planning on getting a c308. I want a battle riffle that can punch through pretty much anything and still go out 800 yards+
@@MinhVu-in9iz I think "better" is a word that indicates one would out perform the other in a significant way. And if, I'm understanding you correctly? Then neither is "better" neither was built for precision. However, both are practically accurate. And very reliable. And can run dirty for about 1200 rounds with no trouble.
@@gunner4lyfe723 Both are heavy and long but are reliable and practically accurate. Not precision rifles but they'll get'er duhn!
Just purchase two C308's. So affordable it's a no brainer. I have an old Cetme that many folks complain about. No Cetme complaints with me. It was so great I purchased the two C308's . I have had nothing but joy with these 308 battle rifles. It's the most bang for the buck in 308.
When the political climate changes these guns will dry up very quickly.
Yea, with the deals that recently popped up on these C308's were unbelievable! I bought several and sold them in my store for $520, plus there is a $50 rebate. I bought one for myself as well. And they really are functional rifles. Thanks for watching and commenting!
It's not unbelievable, it's about the relative labor time put in, quality control, parts and tooling between the two. There is no free HK clone lunch
I just bought one for 400$ bucks
And here we are today, just paid $900 for a c308.
@@motorbreath-4172 they go that high know
Top notch comparisons as always ..
PTR Industries is the way to go. Years ago I purchased a couple of the Century Arms original "CETME" rifles since I was always a fan of the original HK style guns. I think they were around $350 a piece. They were pieces of junk: They'd rip brass in half, needed a mallet to disassemble and just felt cheap. Got rid of 'em. PTR or then JLD Enterprise brought original HK tooling and blueprints to the US and made an exact clone of the HK-91. I bought two of 'em. They shoot like a dream, no recoil, zero failures ever, they're very accurate, and a tad heavy but just fabulous overall. One is a MSG-91 w/ a bipod and picatinny rail, one just a std model PTR-91 F (they cost $1590 and $899 respectively) w/ collapsible stock and original HK scope mount (ea about $200). If you're looking for a semi auto 308, stick w/ PTR quality. They stand behind their products. Century Arms - good luck if you spend $$$ with them
Yes, those original Century CETME rifle were of questionable quality but the C308 is a vastly better rifle. Now you're pretty much getting a PTR for $300 less.
Scott fox NO your not your getting a frankenstein rifle put together by minimum wage retards that when parts don't fit they use a hammer and grinder till they do.
@@jimbotheassclown the only thing Cetme is the bolt and carrier. Hardly Frankenstein. The rest is all PTR.
Lol butt stock lower receiver barrel cover.
@@txgunguy2766 I'll gladly pay that extra.... The century name itself is a letdown
very informative! thanks for posting this!
Bought a cetme about 10 15 years ago (not sure) but Tim said it was a good one & he was right fired a lot of rounds through it & never had any problems works perfect ! but you have to modify g-3 mags to fit & they work just fine to
Great video, and great information!
Thanks for the video. I've been waiting for a video comparing these 2 guns. I really appreciate you doing this one. I would note on both of my c308s the handguard does not have the heat shield like my PTR. Also the c308 stock doesn't have any markings on it. My PTR has a small date molded into the butt stock by the sling attachment point. I suspect maybe the c308 has USA made furniture, but I don't know for sure.
Thanks for watching - I really appreciate it!
very good informative video. lots of hard work. thanks for uploading.
Thanks for watching and for commenting!
I have an older ptr91 without the welded on scope rail and no mav release paddle. The gun has been 100% reliable, and is tons of fun.
Ive got a ptr 91 sc freaking amazing for ME I barley feel the recoil my "DMR" I also have a ptr 32P 762x39 and that thing is a beast same thing with recoil non existent I will sbr it very soon these guns are reliable and accurate either way and in my opinion it will not be outdated for a long time!
Great video man comment let me know what you guys have eager to know!
Great idea for this comparison!!
Thanks for this!

Nice job. Enjoyed the content rich video. Your fast talk is just fine. (Had same problem as other re music & voice balance.)
Great gun for those who are looking for accuracy and power in long range. Heavy recoil makes that better choice for bulky guys to handle its heavy weight. For those men of action who are looking for true power in their hand, accuracy in long range, and reliability in tough situations this rifle (G3/PTR-91/HK-91/C308) would be a lovely choice.
البته حجم و سنگینی سلاح کمی اذیت کننده هست . من خودم مدل قنداق کشویی رو بیشتر دوست دارم . اگر با کیت های تاکتیکال و رد دات و... استفاده بشه عالی میشه
The rear turret sights are marked in Meters, not yard's which is a very common mistake we all have made.
great video, very informative, thank you!
The trigger housing on the PTR seems to be a surplus part from either Denmark (Gv/75) or Norway (AG3), the letters on the selectors are S=Sikker (safe), E=Enkelskudd (single shot), and F=Flerskudd (multi shot), I have translated the words literally, and not used "propper" English firearms nomenclature, that way you can get a sense of what the words are instead of the infered meaning.
It's German. (HK is a German company.)
S = Sicher = safe or secure
E = Einzelfeuer = single fire
F = Feuerstoß = firing burst or burst of fire
I had some small issues with the trigger assembly on my C308 but since then has done just fine.
Hey a fellow Hoosier nice. im looking into getting a C308 and i enjoyed your review.
A very informative video!
I considered both of these options but opted for the PTR91. I ordered it today and I am waiting for it to come in.
hope you liked it, i might be joining the G3 club soon but ill probably be getting the C308 :(
I saw somewhere that the C308 has a cleaning kit stuffed away in the charging tube... Does the PTR have the same?
We hade the G3 in the Swedish army.
The name for it was AK4.
Question....
Do you know what the spring loaded button under the front sight is for?
Oki it's on the army version
Bayonet.
It holds a tube with cleaning supplies. Push in the detent pins on both sides of the sight and it'll twist/pull out. The channel in the main cap is for attaching a G3 bayonet
Did the Military version not have a cleaning kit on the bayonet lug?
PTR no question.
But man, the Century price is nice
Right now? There is a $50 difference here in Ohio. And the century is $50 more
just got a c308 for $415 !!!!! WHAT A DEAL
mark bennett where?
How is the ptr doing?
u a damn lie and your nickname doodoo. where?
@JKay11235 I'm getting one for as close to $400 as possible!
I got an older cetme c by centery for 300 at a pawn shop. Someone had common spray painted it. I stripped off the spray paint and replaced the plastic furniture with wood n.o.s. my wife won't let me sell it now. She thinks it's to "pretty" to let go
Great video!
Thank you for clearing it for us, I find it very very useful. I have asked the same question below to other PTR 91 reviewers as well and I get quite different answers. I would like to ask your opinion on this one. It will be so nice if you review PTR 91 SC as well. Company web site info of SC says 16” match grade, fluted, bull barrel which is also important for me. And rails are already installed. Do you think wide hand guard will fit it? I will use original hand guard and crimson trace less than wide hand guard. Do you think the price of SC worth it instead of buying a GI and modifying it, or do you suggest to start with another PTR? Best.
The music and low voice over quality really made it hard to hear what you where saying. I know people will say 'get a better mic (and camera for that matter), but simply removing the music would also work.
Edit: D'oh.. Ben already pointed it out. Sorry. Had this tab open for awhile and didnt notice the he replied already.
Yep - I will definitely pay more attention to the sound levels in the future. I edited this at 2am and it sounded okay to me at the time, but I may have just been too tired to focus lol. Thanks again for commenting!
I love this style of rifle, I had the Century 308 which was an expensive paper weight... It was junk, the PTR 91 was hands down 100% better. As far as accuracy the PTR 91 is more accurate than my HK91, however it will never have the price tag, but overall a better made gun.
Thank you for the vid , lots of info
matthew hoover thanks for watching - I really appreciate it!
Love my C308 and wanting to upgrade my trigger
On the PTR-91, is the pistol grip a changeout part,? it appears to be, also, I like the metal trigger guard the PTR-91 offers.
Thank you so much for the video!
PTR-91 for sure! Best way to faithfully reproduce the HK-91, as the rifle is original HK tooling from Portugal. And appears to have a bit better accuracy than my original HK, which l purchased in 1984.
I had trouble with my safety select switch coming out on my C308, by the time it started do it of course the warranty was not valid any longer. Century needs to get their stuff together, the tolerance should have been checked for this and quality assurance should have caught it.
What about the rifling? It's my understanding that the C308 uses standard 4 groove rifling but the PTR91 uses the HK polygonal rifling. Is that still the case?
Neither one of the clones use HK's proprietary polygonal rifling. When I bought my PTRs, the barrels were cut rifled and actually manufactured by Walther Arms in Germany.
Nice side by side comparison
Can anyone tell me on a 2004 era Hesse CAi who made barrels for that, and what was the quality on them? of 2 carriers I have seen Why does one bolt carrier have a longer tube but thinner at the last 2" or so and an HK I believe have a shorter but actually fatter at the tip aprox a 3/4" lip at the end where contacts charging handle/cocking lever that pushes against the charging handle rather than recess in like the first one I mentioned? Can barrels be changed on a CIA Hssee without to much of an ordeal?
TY for this post
My PTR 91 has the black navy style grip that you said/showed that came on the Century. What's up with that? Also my PTR 91 does not have the lever mag release, it just has the button. FYI, mine is California legal, that may be why?
very informative and knowledgeable. thank you for the video. i just bought a century cetme and want to find out all the information i can about it.
both riffs are great . I would go for the pta91 thanks for ya time an sharing . atb
Thanks for watching, Andy. I really appreciate it!
will the ptr trigger group work on a century arms c308? and will old surplus wood furniture fit a century arms c308? from a cetme?
The trigger group should work. You may have to do some slight fitting but nothing major. I didn't want to replace mine so I had my gunsmith do his magic on it and it made it much, much better. The surplus CETME furniture will definitely work. I bought a set and refinished it. It looks great on my C308
The PTR has standard 5/8x24 AR-10 barrel threads now. As of the last year or two.
Slytiger oh that should make replacements a peach
True, except 5/8x24 is NATO 30 caliber threads, not AR-10 threads. The AR-10 just has NATO threads too.
I just bought a C308 and put 120 rounds through it with only 1 misfeed hiccup but I believe it was more the surplus magazine than the rifle. Held great shot groups at 100 yards. I do want to get the PTR trigger housing. Are they interchangeable?
Yes they do. I had a cetme and I went with the metal trigger housing.... Robertrtg.com has them.
Yes but the metal trigger-grip housing is heavier. Significantly so.
Can a blue ammo training bolt carrier group be used as a direct swap out in either the C308 or PTR91?
Late reply but yes, it just drops in and works.
Do all of the latest models come with 5 - 6 lb triggers on the PTR-91? I recently placed an order for a rifle, but I've heard many people complain they're about 12 - 14 lbs. I've also seen a video complaining about not having a paddle release, about 2 months ago. Just curious, thanks
Edit: I ordered the PTR-91 FR version.
I've never heard of a 12-14 pound trigger on a ptr-91. I would say one of the best things about the ptr-91 is the ability to go on HK parts and buy a new trigger group extremely easily.
I see the PTR on sale on Atlantic from time to time for 800-900. For the few bills difference, you get a much better finish from PTR. The finish is gorgeous. They sand down the welds and everything is straight. Also all the parts are new and not harvested from used rifles. I’ve also seen a lot of reviews that say the accuracy on the C308 is hit or miss, not what the PTR91’s is, which in my experience is pretty good. Not sorry I went that way.
It would go a long way toward strengthening their claim to be a better value than Century Arms, if PTR would do something to improve the lousy OEM/factory triggers on their rifles. This isn't the 1950s anymore; there's no reason to stick with such a sub-standard trigger design when it would be absurdly easy to improve it. They're often very accurate barrels, but you'd never know it because the factory triggers are so heavy (10-12 lbs. was the Bundeswehr spec), grainy and full of creep. For the extra $300-500 one pays to get into a PTR, you still get exactly the same lousy factory trigger as the cheapest Century clone. At least PTR ought to offer the buyer the option of swapping out the existing pack for something better, in return for slightly more money - so that the rifle would be ready to go out of the box.
This video and your comment gives me a good view on both rifles. I’ll go with a Ptr ( I think) , then buy a collapsible stock and a bipod and see what it can do for for me!!!! Wonder if the bolt face issue was ever addressed?
A lapel mic would bring you to a new level.
will the metal trigger group housing and its detachable grip swap over to the C308?
No.
can c308's use HK BCG parts?
I love em both. Both are excellent working clones of the original military designs depending on your budget. Cosmetically, the PTR91 GI doesn't look a whole lot more refined. Welds are still visible all over but being an all new parts gun, there is less "break in" period to get all the parts working in sync. The C308 is a fantastic deal for $500 as of 2019. Lack of a paddle mag release is easy to work around for quick mag changes. And if you decide to go for a steel trigger pack and housing, you're still a few hundred bucks short of a PTR91. While supplies last ;)
Its funny that PTR assembles both rifles and for some reason, doesn't weld the ones for Century as nicely as they do for those they choose to sell. I wonder if that really means that century gets all receivers that don't meet quality control standards by PTR.
I found this to be quite interesting because my PTR91 has the plastic trigger housing and grip and also sports the pic rail on the top like the C308 in your video?
My PTR 91 A3S does too. I own (2) C308's as well. I bought the C308's last year, and the PTR this past January. Honestly, the C308's have the better finish. I am going to buy (2) more C308's due to the great price (2 for the price of My A3S!) No issues to date from the C308's, and these will eventually no longer be available anywhere... soon... at these prices! IMHO, a better "bang for the buck" MAY never be had again in .308 --- ijs.
My dealer has new PTR's available with and without the rail.
The fit & finish is quite good on my PTR.
greatnortoni mine came with rail and metal trigger group.
greatnortoni i had the pkastic trigger housing, i went to robertrtg.com and ordered the metal one, i think it was around 80$ but its an investment in making to gun look more original.
I'm looking at one or the other these as my shtf rifle.
Love the Meg release paddle 15 minutes
Forgot to mention the price points the PTR goes for around a $1,000 I got my C308 for $500 have been able to get sub MOA with Match ammo and 1.5 to 2.0 MOA with 40 year old mil surplus 7.62 NATO! Not bad for a 500 dollar rifle. I like the PTR but 500 dollars is 500 dollars saved and put towards ammo!
I agree. I also have a C308 and it has been nothing but fantastic. Excellent value for the money.
Thanks for the info, been going back n forth on the c308 for months but the more I read, it's the way to go for the value. Think I'll buy one from Santa to me, for me.
I used the G3 in the Bundeswehr. Pow! Ugly gun, but powerful as hell.
I actually like the look
Are the Trigger group housings interchangeable between the C308 and the PTR 01 ?
Brian Ludlow, yes
That is tropical green, not olive drab green. Good video, I would go for the PTR-91 myself. Thanks.
Grey Beard thanks for the feedback and for watching!
My C308 has the same metal trigger housing as the PTR and it doesn’t have the welded rail on the receiver. Older version? It operates flawlessly.

I realize I'm late to this party, and perhaps it's already been said in the comments somewhere but it's important for each of you to know that the C308 is a joint venture between Century and PTR; think Chevy=Cadillac or Ford=Lincoln/Mercury kind of thing. You can't go wrong with either one...
PTR91 sold thanks for making it clear!

The sights on the C308 are almost...almost worthless. They are generally off. The welds are rough. That said, it's a solid day to day shooter. All you have to do is throw on a red dot or scope, if that's your thing, and you're good to go. Don't expect a pretty modern battle rifle. It is what it is, a reliable roller locking .308 that you won't be afraid to beat up on.
As far as your vid., I can do without the music, but I love to listen to specs, history and general impressions of weapons. Speak slowly, kill the tunes and I could listen to every vid with this type of content.
*TheVoxOfReason* the sights on mine are pretty accurate
The ar platform dates to the 50s bro. What you shooting that’s modern? A scar?
Hi. You forgot to mention that the PTR is made in HK original tooling, that made all the the Portuguese G3 in Portugal.
Which is more accurate? I like the adjustable gas block on the c308. Too bad they only make it with the wood furniture now...
@ Golf Life: Just so you know, there is no gas system to adjust on either of these rifles. They both feature roller-delayed blowback operation, so there is no gas system of any kind to malfunction, clog or foul, etc. Your typical PTR-91 will probably be more-accurate than your typical Century rifle, although both benefit greatly from a trigger job or after-market trigger pack, since the factory triggers are so lousy on these rifles.
Do they still make the c308?
Thanks for a Good Video !
looks like ill be getting the century
about how many rounds does it take to make the charging handle easier to charge.
I've been hearing that once you get 100+ rounds through it, it should start to loosen up noticably
I'm debating on whether to get a PTR91 or a STAG 308 AR10?
PTR Pros;
*History & cool factor.
*Reliability & track record.
*cheap & plentiful magazines.
Con;
*I'm left eye dominant and shoot lefty & Availability of parts/upgrades.
STAG 308WIN;
*Interchangeability with & Familiar AR platform!
*Plentiful of upgrades/Parts & magazines.
*Overwhelming Positive reviews & Ambi.
Con;
*Cost Over $300 more & I would upgrade trigger adding $$$
I'm leaning towards the Stag but price & cool factor keeps me looking at the PTR. If I could afford it I would get both. Also Stag just released a 6.5 Credmore version recently?
The only difference on this two great rifles is the color i shoot both and both are exactly the same
Love my PTR 91!!!!
Ive actually had the chance to put approximately,500-rounds through each and the AR platform DPMS(the latter the most accurate stock wise)At least with me firing. If push comes to shove(even though I’m not an AR platform guy(in any caliber)I’d prefer the DPMS,they are in my area priced approximately the same, give or take a 50-100 bucks. But I spent way more in getting an M1A1 Scout.Superior in my opinion over the others,is it worth the price difference $500.00 Probably not.But it was my dream rifle. No other rifles in my Arsenal, except a 308 in bolt action.Plus the Roller blowback design,is not as good as the gas impingement system.Just my two cents.
Gregory, if you want to have good-excellent accuracy in an SLR in .308, you probably made the right choice to go towards an M1A or AR-308. The CETME/G3 platform and its clones (including the PTR-91 and Century C308) are potentially very accurate, too, but not until they get their lousy OEM triggers fixed via a trigger-job or replacement with a decent aftermarket trigger pack. M1As, on the other hand, come straight from the factory with excellent triggers and those fine iron sights. Most ARs are capable of excellent accuracy, if you set them up properly and feed them high-quality ammo. What you are getting with a CETME/G3-pattern rifle is a platform with lousy, 1950s-era ergonomics, no last-shot bolt hold-open, poor charging handle placement, mediocre factory sights and trigger, poorly-located magazine release and safety, but with decent accuracy (once you get a better trigger and maybe throw an optic on it) and what is perhaps the toughest, most-soldier-proof SLR/battle rifle ever made. Since it uses roller-delayed blowback, there is no gas system whatsoever. These rifles are legendary for being able to run even when neglected, uncleaned, and used hard for months on end. They can take abuse that would break other rifles - and still work. That toughness and durability is probably why they are still in use around the world as service rifles, DMR weapons, and so on. They are also considerably cheaper to build than many competitors - such as the FAL/L1A1 and M14.
For the price, the C308 is the way to go. Great video.
most of this review is spot on, however, your assessment of the welds on the receiver are questionable at best.
PTR shown retail for around 950 $. Given use of surplus parts, why would anyone buy the rifle and have to spend another 160-200 $ (trigger group, muzzle device, rubber butt pads, etc) to make it shootable.
Either one is good the century arms is made with a lot of PTR parts
You have your two rifles mixed up as to which one is which.
What is the price difference?
There are so many PTR models with Picatinny rails. Why did you get one without them for the review?
Lex Edmonds for historical purpose maybe
The new PTR-91’s changed to the standard 5/8x24 threads
Ptr makes the C308 for century in the same factory. Both basically the same rifle but century uses surplus parts as much as possible. So any breakage in the c308 could be overly used parts.
PTR all the way. Better warranty. The C308 will need the paddle mag latch if used as a serious rifle, which is a 200$ upgrade.
i have an original CETME , it just looks better then eitherC308 or the PTR-91 , my pref
I know this is an old video but can someone please help me out. I'm about to buy one of these two rifles. Would it be best to spend the extra money and get the PTR? Any help would be greatly appreciated
I own both. PTR has better finish, warranty, sights, and mag release. Still, the C308 functions flawlessly. I like them both a lot.
Charles Bowdler thanks for the help. I might just have to get both of them
David, if you are still interested, here are some bits of info... PTR industries, formerly JLD Industries, in the early 2000s, purchased the blueprints, tooling and fixtures from Portugal, when that nation stopped producing the G3 for its own use. PTR makes its rifles with semi-auto receivers, but otherwise they are as close as you can get to an actual G3 as possible without actually buying one from H&K. Initially, many of their rifles were manufactured using a mix of surplus and new parts, but as time has moved on, PTR makes more and more of the rifles in-house, according to their website. Century, on the other hand, keeps costs low by building their rifles from surplus parts (some of which are used parts) kits, augmented by new-production parts where necessary. The fit-and-finish on the Century firearms is not up to the standard set by PTR, but they have been improving, too. If you prefer a wood-stocked rifle, a Century might be the best bet, since PTR is not making them right now. If you prefer a CETME-style rifle as opposed to a G3-pattern, Century is your best avenue, whereas if the opposite then choose PTR. The two rifles are similar and share ~ 80% of their parts but not everything is interchangeable. Older models from both companies featured iron sights only. The Century models with the flip-style 100-400 meter rear apertures and the PTRs with the H&K rotating drum, again 100-400m. Newer versions come with a P-rail welded to the top of the receiver to allow easy mounting of optics.

Thanks I appreciate the help
Are they both chambered for 308 Winchester?
Nothing like the original CETME, simply the best.
cetme clone FN Fal
Hk g3 was superior. Cetme was designed by Germans from Mauser anyways!
