- So Finally I've come back to my home Town of Romford. I figured I'd show you all the famous Romford Shopping Hall (Previously Rumford), which has been in the historic market place for 100 years!
So join me for a tour of the Hall with Michelle who helps to run it. There are so many superb local businesses and characters here, it really is the heart of Romford!

Just watched the 3 Romford market video’s. Growing up in Harold hill. I remember jumping on the 174 route master bus to go to Romford with my mates. It’s changed so much in the 50 years that have passed and not all for the best. These videos show the side of Romford that I remember, the friendly people and community spirit that I loved. I even recognised some of the people although like myself a little older. 😢 Romford and the Hill will always be Essex and will always remain in my heart, and I will always remember the 70s and 80s when I spent my days helping set up and taking down the stalls and rolling them round to the old waste land in Ducking Stall Lane. So many memories have come back to me whilst watching these videos. Thank you.

@ListenUp-py1qm yeah I hear what you’re saying I was born in Hackney 60 odd years ago, then when I was seven, I moved to Harold Hill, we moved out of London more specifically East London and moved to Essex. I still classed myself as an East London, but Romford and Harold Hill are still Essex. Regardless of the fact that they’ve moved the boundaries to class it as East London. Very proud of my roots, very proud of growing up in East. London still went back there even after we moved to Essex, but now that most of that side of my family are long gone I don’t go there as often , but I am still East London, Romford and Howard Hill will always be Essex where I live now Will always be classed as Oxford, but I am most definitely not Oxford
@ListenUp-py1qm the 1889 changes were way before my time. Therefore I was born in East London. I was living in Essex before the act of Parliament in 1965 therefore is still Essex to me. Those born after that date technically they will be East London. But if you speak to them the majority, if not all say it’s Essex. So regardless of the dribble that you want to come out with over geographical boundaries they are my thoughts and I’m sticking to them but thanks for your input. You’re obviously one of these people that just likes to argue over trivial little points That really didn’t need to be addressed when somebody was reminiscing about their childhood

Aw shucks.. Rumford Shopping Hall has gone? Like you I was born in Romford and remember the old shopping hall really well. Well done for including some of the history. As kids we thought for years that Romford used to be Rumford in olden days LOL. Lovely to hear the café is still there after all these years and love to see the butcher too! Shame Robbie's Toys has gone LOL.
It seems that a bit of the old Romford Market character and diversity has rested in the hall for now. Long may it do so! More on Romford please!

Defo Essex. I live in Dagenham and I class that as Essex too (the shite part haha) 😂
@ListenUp-py1qm it used to be Essex until they moved the area to Greater London. Tbh Dagenham isn’t that bad, like everywhere you get good and bad, I love my neighbours and where I live ♥️

@JusSain-nu1nh but my postcode starts with RM that’s not a London postcode. I grew up in central London I class NSEW starting letters as London postcodes. Like EC1 where I grew up, moved to WC1, NW1 and all the likes… How is an RM postcode a London postcode. It’s a Romford postcode. I get it’s Greater London but to me it’s Essex. It used to be Essex til they extended London and made Greater London.
@JusSain-nu1nh it used to be under the boundary of Essex in I think the 60’s? I still class it as Essex been putting that on my post for years it still arrives lol 😂
@JusSain-nu1nh I’m not saying you’re wrong it’s just what I class it as, as do many others who live here. We don’t believe dagenham or Romford falls under London. They’re old Essex towns that were added to the shift of the Greater London add on.
