On top of being a very good instructor and a great product reviewer with a professional manner, Ed is just a tremendous player! Man, what a great bassist!
When I grow up, I want to be Ed Friedland. You sir, are the TONE MASTER. Your playing is always superlative, but it's your tone that really sets you apart.
I love it because of the pickup being the other way around. It must really bring out the bass in the thinner notes.
Ed, I love your facial expressions at 4.50 or so when doing the P bass finger style riff - classic!
This is my favorite special edition Warwick
Nice opening bass riff right there!!!
Sounds very metal \m/ and that bass sounds beautiful too :)
Nailed the Chris Squire tone.Great playing, great tone
Tone test #5 and has one of the best slap tones I have ever heard.
wow what a demo and what a bass, cheers ed for that, i was thinking of getting a thumb but now ive heard that i think im gonna get one of these.....rob
Great basses and great sound!
That bass sounds amazing.
Anyone have any idea if this bass has bartolini "origninal" or "classic" series pickups in it?
Amazing bass gotta love Warwick! thanks for posting.
Hey.
I watched the way you were slapping the A string there and I was wondering if you could answer a question I have?
To mute the E string, do you just use the heel of your right hand?
That jazz bridge pickup soothes my ears
man i want one. if i ever get one i think i'd cry of joy, just a bit
well,i was looking a way to discribe chris squire style of playing to a friend of mine and now you explained perfectly
Absolutely sick slap from the bass Whisperer!
Amazing bass, amazing player. Ed, you da man!
Could you review the Fender Mustang bass?
hey ed i was looking into a warwick for my studio bass. would this be a good idea? i was thinking of a streamer thru-neck or a corvette. which would you would recommend? i can't really find much to compare here. i like the streamer b/c of the reverse P and j pick-ups and i like the corvette b/c its jazz pick-ups but i own a jazz bass already. you play so many basses i so you have a good idea of everything and i respect your opinion!!
Is there a 5string version?
@guitarworld were the tests done in active or passive?
what do you call the technique that he did in 9:07?
You say the redwood 1'' top contributes to the tone... how? I don't hear it all that differently than other 'wicks. Just wondering what your thoughts are.
i am making a decision beetwen warwick streamer lx vs blade b2 what do you think
amazing tones
well my first bass was yamaha fretless 79 reverse p-bass pickup, sounds great.entwistle had early 70's basses whit reverse p-bass pickups.cheers.
Can Warwick streamer be used for pop-punk, soft rock too?
i like this slapping tone soo much !!
I wish more companies would do the reversed P pickup, the only ones I know of are Warwick, Fender's Hoppus bass, and a few smaller companies.
@athansauc
playing chords?/playing bass
the best studio bass around to me is the warwick corvette double buck neck thru very versatile amazing sustain and u can get any sound or tone u want.
what song is that on 9:06 ?
09:06 until the end of the video. Stunning performance, meaning the player is great!
ed u got some mad skills.. in what band do u play?
I love this bass.
Warwick is great bass.Great groove.Ed is boss.
This may be a pointless question, but is it possible to get a good jazz tone from this bass? As in, midrange.
At least someone from guitarworld can give a good product demo
Nice tone.It doesn't hurt that he's also playing through a Genz setup!
I fully agree. I would buy a Yamaha, but after knowing this bass ... it was love at first sight
"the black tuners" is that the brand?
that growl in the opening really reminds me of Wal basses.
ok, i play guitar, and im not a bass expert so maybe someone can help me... but what im thinkin is, from 5:05-6:00 they sound exactly the same. the only time i hear a difference is from the bridge pickup to the neck pickup. the switching from active to passive sounds exactly the same to me
What is that you're playing? (the song/riff I mean). I like it. :)
That overdriven pick tone killed me! God tone!
@soohungry I almost always prefer the passive mode of active basses.
holy shit!i want that bass....
The vid in which Ed Friedland finally revealed himself to be a metal god... I knew I'd see it som day :D
i like this guy,,,, great demo.
@FASHWENKA Well, all of the punk rock bassists I've seen use either a Precision or a Ric. And, the Jazz Bass and the Ric practically own the prog rock genre. Like, almost all of the classic prog bands I've seen use a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003. Greg Lake used a Jazz Bass, and so does Geddy Lee, so I guess they're the exceptions. And, I want this Streamer, SO bad.
Dear god, those slap tones. so delicious.
@Cache069 haha ok, like i said im not bashing the bass or anything i mean it sounds phenomenal i was just wondering from a bassists ears if that was like a huge difference
I actually preferred Tone Test 7, which is odd because P basses don't normally do it for me!
Nice im not a bass player for the momet but i want one bass !!!!
damn that bass is bad assss
Maybe It's just because I'm mostly a bassist, and don't play much guitar, but it seems like there are really only like three or four guitar sounds, not including distortion. I listen to GuitarWorld doing reviews of guitars, and I hear no real difference in most, but it seems like basses have much more harmonic quality because of the big, long strings that slight things can make drastic differences in the sound. I can think of ten or fifteen distinct, usable bass tones off the top of my head.
What's the difference between this model and the RockBass-version?
This is an Limited Edition German Handmade, where the Rock Basses are Machine made in China
+Liquid San about 3 thousand dollars.
@TheEurasia23 streamer man all the way, besides you can get that mm sound with the streamers neck pickup anyway, i also find the neck on the streamer more comfortable but ultimately the choice is up to you,
happy groovin' :)
Awesome.
awesome...
@aeropagitica Isn't the bass company from Germany? Not sure how they'd pronouce it.
Truss rod on any good bass shouldn't need adjustment hardly ever. I've had a corvette custom for 13 years and never touched the the neck - it's an absolute honey. Between the bridge and just-a-nut you can get anything you need in the action. Warwick makes the best elec basses in the world - get one.
Almost indistinguishable sound from some Spectors. Very nice.
I want one.
This is a mean bass!!!
@athansauc hes just playing chords in a Abe Laboriel like 4 finger way :b I guess in it's way it's an arpeggio (: but in reality it's just classical guitar on bass :P not too difficult to do slowly (:
And also .. thank you for your civil reply. Well said. :)
@wackiirahki I disagree. They only focus on the good points. If you don't want to know any of the bad points of the bass, like, for example if all the basses are dropped from 50 feet high by accident but it looked fine so they still sold them, then this is for you.
Damn, I had a chance to buy this for a great price years ago....kickin myself for not doing it
Well...that's just retail. I think they started around $3200 and now after a few years there are only two or so left at the bass place and they're selling them for $2200.
i couldn't tell the difference between active n passive even thru headphones!
5:33 i got more then a "little woody" from that bass ;)
Dat slap tone
passive mode i think has less "punch"
@athansauc mad skills
Warwicks are some of the most solid basses in the industry o.O they're built to quite exacting standards and feature some of the stiffest heaviest neck woods in the industry, and some of the best hardware? good luck breaking them..
i want it
nice P and both with dist. It buys me.
@TheEurasia23 I have a warwick corvette and nothing compares (except a Ritter) :) Ritters are 10k tho lol
Dare I say it? Loving the Passive Mode Better!
the slap part is hot!!!!
Justanut: Because they can't be bothered spending the time to get the nut height (which only needs to be adjusted once) right straight out of the factory.
Angled tuners: Nice idea, except they are now at an angle which makes them harder to turn. If anything they should be pointing in the opposite direction. If you have tried them out you will know what I mean.
@Calvert1212 I'd give them both.
watching this guy's reviews makes me want to change to bass from guitar, i'm just not sure though that I want to buy a whole new instrument and amp.
@arifreeman Just a nut is not because they're lazy, if you buy a nice bass and play it for a while and often, the nut wears down, and maybe u just wana raise the action, you'd have to get it shaved down or add a shim for anything, Justanut fixes all those problems
This bass is thuh bawlz. Huge rhino nuts tone. (Ed's slap skills are just sickness as well.)
Cool
good . . .
miggy, being a 'gear snob' doesn't make you a good bassist. It doesn't even make your opinion respectable. It just makes you sound like a snob. The cheapest bass I have is a Peavey Milestone II (Precision copy). That bass is so solid is NEVER goes out of tune! I mean NEVER and I've owned it for 13 years. I've taken it from Alaska to Texas and it NEVER goes out of tune. I check the tuning and never have to retune.Totally solid bass. $109 at a pawn shop. You don't know what you're talking about!
the tree was HUGE!!!
@Nefro1280 a Rickenbacker.
I have one…Actually looks better in person.
nope im not. sounds kinda cheap just my opinion though. should check out fodera, f bass, mtd or ken smith. they are beautiful and beautiful sounding basses.
test 1- the rest!!
@jimmyatebillonce haha comment of the year
amen man....i mean i'm an ibanez guy, but warwicks are built like damn mack trucks. There's a reason that you primarily see metal players using them
Fair point, I just think it's counter intuitive and, to my ears, the bass has a treble bias. I dislike the sound more than normal Warwicks with the Stingray style pickups, and even they sound unbalanced.
@markgadge no its not
