- Mike Keneally, who was a member of Frank Zappa's band during Frank's final run of tours, chats about The Zappa Band, which features fellow Zappa alumni and is on its first headlining tour this summer.
fun fact: he doesn't mention, that Travers and Kime both played with Dweezil in the first Zappa-plays-Zappa-band

Unfortunately I didn't get to hear Mike play with Zappa. It was good to hear him talk about Ray White. I saw Ray with Zappa and was so impressed with his guitar playing and singing. He added another different dimension to the Zappa sound.
Saw MK and The Zappa band in Fall River MA it was amazing.

Mike, everything you shared in this interview reinforced my love of Frank's music, my love of prog and how those genres coexisted, cross-pollinated and overlapped to the delight of an audience that appreciates the intentions, skills and dedication of serious musicians like you. (Why are my sentences so long?) Of course, all of us on the west coast who were saddened by the demise of the '88 band before we got to see you guys are now delighted to witness The Zappa Band in your current form. Keep up the good work and know that I'm tuned in, if not for a live show, I'll be watching from a wilderness location via Starlink from the middle of SOMEWHERE.
mike was a wonderful accompanist on the 88 tour. you just have to discover zappa univers, where mike has an important place and we have the demonstration of his guitar skills.
We had the honor of sitting in back of Mike last night at the Baked Potato and whoa!!!.....he was fun and fantastic. Thank you Mike and the Zappa Band for an "over the top" performance!!!! (last show on Halloween night). I'll never for this this one for sure!!!

I saw Zappa on Broadway the Hard way tour in 1988 in Birmingham UK. So I guess this is the tour Mike was on? I have also seen the Bizarre world concert too. So odd to see a hologram of Frank on stage. But in a good way.
I saw that gig in Birmingham, I'm just wondering where Mike's hair went since then. I've listened to Mike's music but just kept the image of 88 in my head too long. Ha, a different kind of holographic projection.

The band I saw in 1988 at NEC played Bolero in classical and then a piss take of Stairway to Heaven, with squeeky toys and toy cop car sirens! ?? But it was my only concert of his cos he disbanded the band after that apparently? I have seen Dweezil several times, although never with Stevie Via with Zappa plays Zappa.
