As mass increases (and velocity is constant) the energy delivered increases linearly

A rifle bullet is smaller, its casing is larger & holds more powder, more powder = higher velocity; a single unit increase in velocity increases kinetic energy far more than a single unit increase in mass does. This is a very basic explanation, pls no bully.

On the other hand, an increase in velocity by dv gives

= KE + m*v*dv +0.5*m*(dv)²
Any change in velocity has significantly more impact than the same change in mass.

Sp0okykidd Barrel length and the twist rate of the rifling inside the barrel can affect the muzzle velocity. From what I understand a longer barrel helps give the propellant more time to fully combust
@@Spookykidshow out of a 16 inch barrel (legal minimum length for a rifle) 5.56 is going about 3000 feet per second. Out of a 10 inch barrel it's going about 2600~. Rifle rounds are moving fast enough that they generate enough force to tear surrounding flesh with the shock wave. Pistols are pretty much going 900-1400 feet per second and just punch a hole in a body the diameter of the bullet, even out of longer barrels.

Hello from Wisconsin, it went from protesting to rioting immediately following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha. I live close enough to it that my parents went to their favorite furniture store recently and it's burnt to the ground now.
