I have on 13 inch MacBook Pro from mid 2010 with 2.4ghz C2D with Mojave in it, and works super snappy with SSD upgrade for browsing and media. It's really impressive how those hardwares still hanging with macOS over the years.
@@GoJot holding up good, i bought it this year broken and i fixed it and upgraded it myself. even fixed the failing capacitor problem myself and hasnt crashed once since then. its my daily computer cus getting things in my country is expensive

I used a 13” mid-2010 MacBook Pro as my main computer from January 2021 until August 2021. It was okay, but its hard drive failed the following fall, and it was just too slow. I strongly discourage buying this computer for anything besides collection purposes because of these machines’ unreliability. People who cannot afford to spend more on a computer might as well just save their money until they can buy a better one.
I have a 13 inch 2010 Macbook Pro, using the dosdude Catalina patcher it runs great. I tried Monterey before with the OpenCore patcher but it was pretty slow.
The capacitor is a problem especially on the dual graphics model. Can be replaced cheaply and fairly easy if you are comfortable with solder and motherboards. This machine can run extremely well and supports back to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 so I keep one around for a couple legacy Apps. Go for the anti-glare screen you get more resolution. A 2011 model is often only a few bucks more and can support 16GB of RAM. SSD is a must!
I have two 2012 15" mpb machines w/ the non-glare screen, but my 2010 is one I sorta scrapped together out of bits and bobs. So the lesser video. It runs *very* hot. I run Endeavor Linux on it (be sure and install macfanctld if you do this). Snappy in linux. Mine's the i5 2.4g model and with a small ssd it is fine for web, editing, videos. I'd buy a 2012, though.... they are the cadillacs of unibody mbps. This? If someone gives it to you, have fun with it.
I thought the capacitor issue was only in the 17" macbooks, my 2009 17" MacBook had that issue and i just got it fixed so i'm back to watching youtube on the 17 inch screen. I love typing on it too, i think because there is more space to rest your arm on the macbook while typing it just makes the typing experience easier and Windows 10 still runs great on it so it would be a good second laptop for someone who needs Windows 10 for some softwares like i do.
It depends of what will be the usage, for light usage like entertainment or office, it will handle fine, even light rendering and image editing will handle well. I do have a 2016 15 inch mbp with 2.6ghz i7 and monterey, and works fine for that.
Some people are low income and this is still useful... Usa is a throwaway society other countries would try and update / maintain these. Happy for you and your m3 though.

The unibody with the silver bezel kinda looks cross between a pre unibody MacBook pro and a MacBook Air

Im looking to specifically run garageband, would a 2010 model be capable of that?
I’m not too familiar with GarageBand, but I think if you keep it simple the 2010 will be okay
