    Sd cards shouldn’t be used for long term storage. Only for temporary. One day you’re gonna find your data simply disappear. You didn’t discover a cheat code there’s a reason it’s the last thing people use for long term storage

    • @ArthurBrassart
      @ArthurBrassart  5 днів тому +8

      you know I have been using this card for 2 years. Never had any issues with it. But I always have a time machine backup so in case something happens I have a copy of my data ;) Technically, any drive can fail at any time, so if the data is important, you need to have a second backup somewhere, whether it's an internal SSD or an SD card. Anyway, I found this card a nice solution to boost my storage at a low price without carrying an external SSD.

      @@ArthurBrassart 2 years is not a long time . any drive should be fine in that time frame. any drive can fail that's true, that's why it is a known fact that SD cards are unreliable. I don't have problem with you using it. But people watching this video might get the idea to use the sd card as their long term storage solution as if they had discovered the cheat code to circumvent apple's ridiculous price and they'll find out

    I picked up a 512 GB SanDisk MicroSDXC for $30 on sale, and it's been working for 8. months now as my near-term storage in my SD card slot to keep my internal SSD free of files I don't use often. Nothing I keep there is without a secondary backup, but I've not suffered any losses and it's worked as a fabulous solution for my needs that I've been very happy with.

    It's really dumb that Apple designed it where a regular SD card sticks out like that compared to how everyone else designs it so it clicks in almost flush. And is actually secure as it locks in. Whereas Apple is the cheaper version where you just press it in as far as it will go and it's held in place by friction.

    • @ArthurBrassart
      @ArthurBrassart  Рік тому +5

      I think they made it with one purpose - to discourage users to use SD cards to expand the storage of their MacBooks Pro and purchase it from apple 5 times more expensive :D Its a business. Every small detail count for making profit ;)

      @Arthur Brassart I have used exFat. It seems like a full wipe with all zeros write should help. I will reply after full format with writing all 0.

    • @jamesleonmiller4504
      @jamesleonmiller4504 Рік тому +3

      Ok, it seems like it shows 75MB/s only when the writing process ongoing on cells, that are are set to 0 (I mean memory cells, that are clean). If it overwrites existing data, speed drops down to 25MB/s.

    Great idea! Do you know if this JetDrive supports iCloud? Specifically, can one store their Apple Photos Library there as their main library connected to iCloud? That would be how I would use this drive. I know some (all?) external SSDs cannot support Photos Library unless formatted in an acceptable Apple format, and my concern with this product is whether or not it can be formatted for use with Photos Library, and secondly, is it fast enough to make that practicable. Thanks for your review.

    IT IS POSSIBLE to upgrade SSD AFTERWARDS. Altought it is not so easy. You have to buy NAND chips, and desolder NAND's from motherboard, then solder new ones. So its not "impossible", its just hard to do for majority of people.

      storage doesn't need to be so close to the cpu, so you can make it user replaceable. there a benefit in having soldered DDR5 7000mhz+ RAM but no benefit to soldered storage apart from saving space maybe. macos use this storage as storage, I haven't got the IT degree at walmart. apple separated the memory controller from the rest of the NAND, so the "SSD" chips you see are just storage and the information about the data location are elsewhere in the CPU package. this is an intentional apple decision to make things worse for the user alongside soldering storage in the first place.@AlphaF28

      Hi, this SD is the highest class that exists. So it’s the fastest one. SD cards are slower then SSD of course but it’s faster then classic HDD external drive. I use it for a month now and i am very happy. Finally i can store all my “useless files and apps” on this card and i have plenty of space on my internal SSD. I even play games form this SD card. I am positively surprised. And i don’t have carry and external drive will me. 😇😇😇😇😇😇

      No :) when you are installing it for the first time it stays there like a normal external drive. When you are rebooting your computer, it connects automatically. No need to eject it ;)

      Well i think you are right. Generally speaking it is better to invest more while configuring your MacBook and make it future-proof. But for someone +650$ is a huge amount of money 💰 You know people want to save money. This solution if for people who already got their MacBooks and want to add storage. All in all its a good and cheap solution. But yes it’s slow comparing to internal SSD. For file and data storage more then enough 😺
